His [[fursona]] is a black [[wolf (species)|wolf]].

==History==
====Early years====
Kirsch became interesting in [[anthropomorphic]] animals at a young age.<ref name="KirschBio"/> In kindergarten, he concocted an [[Wikipedia:Imaginary friend|imaginary friend]] who was an anthro [[mouse]]. Then, he started to play make believe as a [[cat]].

This "blew (his) third-grade mind right out of (his) head".<ref name="KirschBio"/> By fourth grade, he was writing rambling [[Wikipedia:Stream of consciousness (narrative mode) |stream of consciousness]] comedy stories about a group of werewolves living in an [[Wikipedia:Recreational vehicle|R.V.]] and cavorting across an early-90's America. He also ran around the school trying to bite people, and howling like a wolf.

After transitioning from the gifted school to a public school, sometimes between middle school and high school (around age fourteen), Kirsch was exploring the internet when he discovered the [[therian]] subculture and immediately decided that he actually was a werewolf. This lasted for about six months, until he discovered a much truer calling: the [[furry fandom]]. With [[Wikipedia:puberty|puberty]] kicking in, Kirsch decided he wanted to "screw twinky, whimpering [[fox|foxes]] with (his) big black wolf [[Genitalia|cock]]",<ref name="KirschBio"/> and started putting his [[yiff|anthro-erotic]] thoughts onto paper.

====High School====
In high school, Kirsch started writing more fiction. In 2003, on Summer vacation, he wrote a story for a friend, which revolved around a black wolf tormenting a young, impressionable [[gay]] [[cougar]] with a leather fetish. Kirsch needed a name for the [[character]], and he had just read Stephen King's ''[[Wikipedia:The Stand|The Stand]]''. One of the characters - Harold Lauder - was nicknamed "Hawk", and Kirsch thought that was an interesting juxtaposition, and so he carried it along. His wolf character's name would be Harold Allen Kirsch, and he would insist that people call him "Hawk" since it was "considerably more badass".<ref name="KirschBio"/>

Kirsch went on to adopt the name as his internet handle, and the character of Hawk would eventually feature in over thirty stories about depraved fetishes. Kirsch coined the word "anthrohorrotica" to describe his anthro-horror-erotica tales.<ref name="KirschFA">[https://www.furaffinity.net/user/hawkwolf H. A. Kirsch's profile] on [[Fur Affinity]]. Ychan

2022-09-14T06:17:03Z

Novaaa: Mention re-opening of Ychan. Only adding one sentence since I honestly don't know much about the website.

[[File:YchanLogo.jpg|right|220px]]
'''Ychan''' was a [[furry]] image board that registered users and anonymous visitors could post to.

* '''Address''': https://ychan.net/
* '''Administration''': [[Bad Karma Networks]]
* '''Ran from/to''': March 3, 2008 - May 14, 2014<ref name=Closure>''[http://www.flayrah.com/5672/bad-karma-shutters-ychan-yiffy-international-420fursorg Bad Karma shutters Ychan, Yiffy International, 420furs.org]'' - [[GreenReaper]], [[Flayrah]] (May 14, 2014)</ref>

== Features==
Ychan featured search capabilities, image tagging, a bookmarking system called '''Favourites''', and support for standard [[Wikipedia:BBCode|BBCode]] in posts. Ychan was a project of [[Yiffy International]], and as such enjoyed many integrated features, including a private messaging system and distinct user profiles.

Ychan supported image (GIF, JPEG and PNG), Flash (SWF only) and video (MPEG, AVI, WMV and MOV) upload filetypes.<ref>"[http://forum.yiffy.tk/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=247 Video Support]" Posted on September 16, 2008 by [[Karma]]. Retrieved July 15, 2009.</ref>

=== Tags and searching ===
Videos and Images on Ychan were taggable. Tags were keywords that went beyond the normal role of assisting searches and facilitated linking to and even suggesting related material. A traditional search interface and tag cloud were provided to cater to spelunkers and casual browsers alike.

=== Duplicate image detection ===
While most image boards traditionally served as temporary dumping grounds, Ychan aimed to be an efficient, highly categorized and diverse archive.{{fact}} As such, threads and posts are not phased out or 'pruned' (deleted) and techniques such as duplicate image detection were employed to reduce repeat posts and promote older threads.
{{q|The possibility of a false positive (wrong match) when looking up duplicates is remarkably small due to a dual-fingerprinting technique that also produces a longer hash than most contemporary solutions.<ref>"[http://forum.yiffy.tk/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=403 Duplicate Image Detection]" Posted on November 7, 2008 by [[Karma]]. Retrieved July 15, 2009.</ref>}}

=== Special boards ===
Ychan had two "special" boards, /ot/ and /rl/ which were for ''Off Topic'' and ''[[Real Life]]'' content respectively. Images and videos not pertaining to furry were allowed in the Off Topic board while the Real Life board was specifically for content deemed "reasonably furry." The criterion was that a photo or video contain one or more of the following:

* [[fursuit]]ing
* [[plushie]]
* [[ear]]s/[[tail]]s/other accessories
* bodypaint
* '[[Zeta Creations|Zeta]]' toys
* other content reasonably relevant to furry<ref>"[http://forum.yiffy.tk/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=248 /rl/ (Real Life) Board]" Posted on September 16, 2008 by [[Karma]]. Retrieved July 15, 2009.</ref>

=== Ban list ===
[[Yiffy International]] and Ychan maintained a common public list of banned addresses and information associated with them which the creator affectionately titled [http://yiffy.tk/shitlist.php The Shit List]. The purpose of this list was to facilitate detection, tracking and geolocation of malicious botnets for education, amusement and the benefit of the forensically inclined web community.

== Rumoured legal action against Ychan ==
Rumours of legal action against Ychan circulated on [[WikiFur]] during May-June 2009 were caused by the gross misinterpretation of a statement issued both at Ychan and Yiffy International at that time. The statement outlined the cause of a two-week long period of downtime and the site owner's intent to pursue legal action against the former ISP for their perceived gross negligence.

==Closure==
On May 14, 2014, the site (along with other sites run by [[Bad Karma Networks]]) was replaced with a notice:<ref name=Closure />
{{q|When we're young the day stands still, but as we age time begins to speed us by until it seems there is never enough. We're proud of how far the community has come in the 11 years since we opened our doors, but sadly we no longer have the time to make this the site that you deserve. We'll miss you and the fun we've had together deeply - but remember that in every ending is a new beginning. We wish you the best in all your new beginnings to come!}}

Ychan seems to have re-opened in 2017 and is running as of September 2022.

Bestiality

2022-08-27T16:49:13Z

Novaaa: Undo revision 556301 by 185.253.160.5 (talk)

'''Bestiality''' is an act involving [[human]]-[[animal]] [[sex]]ual relations. Various jurisdictions in many countries have laws on the books to prohibit bestiality, either explicitly as in a [[W:Washington state|Washington, USA]] law<ref>[http://www.washingtonvotes.org/2006-SB-6417 Washington 2006 Senate Bill 6417 (Prohibiting bestiality)], passed 24 March 2006</ref>, or implicitly as part of existing [[W:Animal abuse|animal abuse]] or [[W:Sodomy|sodomy]] laws.

==Bestiality and furry==

The presence of bestiality (and indeed [[zoophilia]]) in the [[furry community]] and [[art]] of the [[fandom]] is a controversial topic among [[furries]] and their [[critic]]s. A study of mostly United States furry convention attendees back in 1999-2000 listed [[zoophile]]s at about 2% of those surveyed, but doesn't appear to differentiate between zoophiles and bestialists.<ref>''[http://www.visi.com/~phantos/furrysoc.html The Sociology of Furry Fandom]'', [[David J. Rust]], 2000-2003</ref>
In contrast, an analysis of data from the [[Furry Survey|Furry Survey]] suggests that one in six furries self identify as zoophiles<ref>http://adjectivespecies.com/2012/02/06/zoophilia-in-the-furry-community/</ref>.

Florida Furs

2022-04-02T05:17:53Z

Novaaa: Looks like he moved out of Florida too (mark inactive link)

The '''Florida Furs''' are [[furries]] in the state of [[Wikipedia:Florida|Florida]].
[[File:floridafurs.jpg|right|frame|Florida Furs Twitter icon]]

Long ago{{When|reason=How long ago? Wish I knew|date=August 2020}} most of the furry activity in the state was centered around [[Orlando]]; since then, furries elsewhere in Florida, including in [[Wikipedia:Gainesville, Florida|Gainesville]], the [[Wikipedia:Tampa, Florida|Tampa Bay]] area, [[Wikipedia:Pensacola, Florida|Pensacola]], and [[Wikipedia:Miami, Florida|South Florida]] have become more organized and active. There were also groups of furs in [[Wikipedia:Jacksonville, Florida|Jacksonville]] and [[Wikipedia:Tallahassee, Florida|Tallahassee]] as well. Many groups have rose and fell over time.

In June 2020, Florida had 66 pins on furmap.net<ref>[https://www.furaffinity.net/view/36996095/ screenshot of furmap.net's Florida in June 2020]</ref><ref>[https://www.furmap.net/map Furmap]</ref> which was more than double than the 29 pins the map had in February 2020.<ref>[https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35039174/ Furmap: February 2020 Florida screenshot]</ref>

Florida [[convention]]s are [[Megaplex]], during summer, and the [[Furloween]] Halloween party in October.

'''Sociopolitical Ramifications''' ('''SPR''') is a sci-fi furry [[MUCK]], with an average of 60 to 80 furs connecting nightly (of which between 20 and 25 are usually between 10 hours and 25 days idle).

== Areas ==

SPR's main 'city' has a computer theme with different areas named after different parts of a computer's hardware or architecture. Much of SPR's central and western landscape, as well as the MUCK's title screen, was designed by [[unci]], a building [[wizard]] of the first years, who left SPR in 1999.

[[SocioSpace]] is a hard sci-fi minigame (similar to a MUD) built into SPR. This system includes combat, healing, and a spaceship system, programmed by the lead wizard for that area, [[Arian]].

== [[Wizard]]s ==
* [[Anputeti]] - [[MUF]], no space.
* [[Arian]] - Building Wizard (No characters)
* [[Benjamin]] - Building/PR/Characters/Policy/HelpStaff!
* [[DivineVixen]] - Chairfox
* [[Drac]] - Wizard/Player and Player/Player relations.
* [[Dru]]
* [[Enzeru]] - General Stuff / Building / Space
* [[Moment]] - Policy, coordinator, PR, denotational semanti
* [[PuppyDog]] - MUF/MPI/ANSI/Technical
* [[Serailyn]] - All-around Helpful Serailyn (MUF and more!)
* [[Snout]] - Charreq, PR/HS, policy. Some building, [[MPI]].

==History==
{{Dubious}}
SPR was founded by [[Snout]] and [[DivineVixen]] on Sep 19th 1994 at 04:27:49 CEST, and was announced via @shout just before one of [[FurryMUCK]]'s infamous six- to eight-hour database saves. The name SPR actually comes the parody comic of [[Tank Vixens]], hence why the initial line when you connect is, ''"Oooh, say the words.."'' The phase also made an appearance in the [[anthropomorphic]] Sci-fi comic ''[[Albedo]]''. On that first day, over thirty players connected, each of whom was given a wizbit to make it easy for them to build and attach things.

[[Murphy]] the MUFMouse was a wizard from opening day in September 1995 to his resignation in October 1996. Murphy built the original space station (then called SPR Station), the first solar system, and coded all the vehicle programs.

In 1997, during a fit of pique, the wizard [[Mystique]] chose to @purge, thus destroying everything that she owned, including the page program and the say program. At this time, [[Aerowolf]] (aka Winged) was given a wizbit (along with [[Kathalla]]) to help piece SPR back together from a backup that Snout started running on another port.

Eventually, DivineVixen had to step down as head wizard due to her player's fight with Multiple Sclerosis, leaving Snout in charge. [[Syvel]] chose this time to @purge, thus getting rid of a lot of functionality that the MUCK relied upon.

It was just after Syvel's @purge that [[CATerwaul]] chose to limit the MUCK to wizards-only, for a period of a couple of weeks. During this time, many inactive wizards were dewizzed, and several new rules and regulations went into effect -- including the requirement that MUCK-essential programs and objects needed to be owned by a new, wizbitted character named SPR, so that no @purge could damage the MUCK again.

Eventually, SPR came back for players to use, though its user base was much diminished (from a high of 191 characters connected, it now averages 60 to 80). Snout didn't want anything to do with the administration of the new MUCK structure, so he appointed three wizards to be "gods" -- wizards with the power to grant or remove wizbits. These were [[Natasha]], Aerowolf, and [[Benjamin]].

Due to internal friction (and a lot of miscommunication), Natasha ended up leaving. It was at this point that Aerowolf became pretty much the main God character. He made several unpopular decisions during this timeframe: Space became Arian's area to allow or banish people as he saw fit. [[Zinn]] was toaded and banished for alleged (i.e. disputed) violation of an order to stay out of Arian's space areas. [[Gud]], DivineVixen's non-wizard character, was given a wizbit, and immediately began to violate SPR's rules of ownership, yanking possession of a BDSM-themed area from its owners. When Aerowolf de-wizzed him, he began to bad-mouth the administration of SPR in the park, and Aerowolf @toaded and banished him from what had been his own MUCK several years before.

(Ahem. Not entirely right. The owner of the area violated the local law, and was punitively toaded. What happened to the area I am not aware of, albeit, there might have been a delay in handling its purging, and for that, which is of course my responsibility, I, as the @toading of the player was my doing, of course apologize. However, there was of course never any attempt at forcibly stealing an area - whatever purpose would such an act serve, even if I had wanted to, it would have been all too obvious? Anyway, Gud is the #1 (god) character of the MUCK, comparable to the root account of a UNIX system, SYSTEM on VMS or Administrator on Windows. It is no specific person, and was of course not dewizzed. Also, the character I returned as was DV and nothing else. Yes, I made mistakes, of course, and was a little too unconcentrated and dictatoric, which I just as much as (due to a misunderstanding between myself and Snout, I thought myself to still be in charge, and since there other wizards also did, my great round table idea just made it worse) causing friction I of course regret, and chose to leave for 3-4 years until my health was better. By my own choice, of course, 'banning' a server wizard from SPR would have been...quite hard. :))

Aerowolf resigned as a wizard (much less head wizard) in November of 2001, amidst complaints that he was misusing his power -- among other things, Syvel asked for ownership of her programs back from SPR (Syvel having been removed as a wizard due to her @purging), attempting to revoke the GPL that she had originally licensed them under. Aerowolf refused, citing her prior @purge and her player's legal issues, as well as the GPL which allowed SPR to maintain its own copy of her programs.

== Physical location ==

SPR's server is physically located in [[Wikipedia:Sweden|Sweden]]. Therefore, SPR is not restricted by US laws. In particular, the use of the internet by children less than 13 years old is restricted in the US.

However, rules 0.1 as well as 1.1 of the SPR policies imply that anything you do is subject to:
# Swedish law
# international law, and
# any laws which apply where you are

Soliciting RL sex with those under the age of 15, or in some cases, 18, is not legal in Sweden.

Florida Furs

Novaaa: Mark IRC channels inactive. No activity seen in weeks.

Novaaa: Add the MUCK that this really cool and good dragon roleplays on most, as far as I know

'''Patashu''' is, usually at least, a mechanical [[dragon]] powered by steam. The [[MUCK]]s he primarily goes to are [[SpinDizzy]] (since August 31 2006), [[FurryMUCK]] (since October 3rd 2004), [[SPR]] (since August 4th 2005) and [[Faibanx]] (since September 9th 2005). '''Pokémon Dynasty''' was a [[roleplaying]] [[MUCK]] with an adult [[Pokémon]] theme, and allowed [[Pokémorph]] characters.

* '''Addresses''':
** '''MUCK server''': pokedynasty.kitsunet.net, port 2069
** '''Website''': http://pokedynasty.kitsunet.net/ (defunct)
** '''Wiki''': http://pokedynasty.kitsunet.net/wiki/ (defunct)
* '''Ran from/to''': January 2007 - February 2008, May 2008 - 2014?

Pokémon Dynasty MUCK was born from a fork of [[Pokémon World MUCK]] after a deep schism in staff. The MUCK was themed to take place 1500 years after Pokémon World MUCK, with characters from there being given the chance of a one way passport to Pokémon Dynasty. The open playable areas were reduced to facilitate more dense RP and a closer sense of community, having only 2 open cities and 3 outdoor areas. Humans and perhaps Digimon were in the works of being added, based on a modern day Earth with a narrow connection to the Pokémon homeworld.

== Current Wizards ==
*[[Alynna]] - Main developer and creator, Head wiz
*Cresil - TPs, Enforcement
*Helio/Crystal - Staff Gopher
*Shay - League Wizard
*Giselle - Theme
*Kaiya - TP Assistant
*Mickey - Builder

== Original Founding Head Wizards ==
*[[Alynna]] - Server Provider
*[[Phoex]] - Coding, Sheet Fixes, Pokedex
*Hyouki - Junior Coder, Sheet Fixes, Idea Proposer, Newbie Helper, League Wizard
*Arceus A.K.A Sunshine - Primary Enforcer, Helper, Theme Wizard, Building Wizard
*Shalla - Moral support

Note: This was during the period where there was to be 4 co-head wizards under Alynna using the foundation provided by Alynna from PX2.

== Closing ==

As of 18 February 2008, Pokémon Dynasty was shut down by [[Alynna]]. The MUCK had been "deleted", according to her. Following was the message given when attempting to connect to the server.

== Reopening ==

As of 5/08, Pokémon Dynasty was reopened. There was a backup copy made and the entire MUCK was reinstated and is still playable along with accepting new players.

Pokémorph MUSH is the longest-running [[Pokémon]]-themed [[MU*]] on the Internet. The founder remains Head Wizard.{{Citation needed|reason=I haven't ever seen the founder online, is he still head wiz? Doubt it.|date=April 2020}} As of March 2009, Pokémorph MUSH averaged around 30 to 40 unique players a night out of an estimated 150 to 200 unique players with 853 registered characters in total.

As of February 2020, the current website is a maintained wiki.

The former website had stated that it was undergoing renovations since October 2, 2011. However, that site has not reopened since; updates of the renovation were posted on their social media pages, but as of February 2020 Pokémorph MUSH's social networking accounts had not been updated since November 2015.

==Backstory==
''From the Pokémorph MUSH website:''

{{q|The year is 2039.

Through years of experimentation and research, the scientists of Team Rocket have combined the genetic codes of human and Pokemon. Emerging from the unnatural union is a new race, Pokemorphs, possessing traits from both worlds, but belonging in neither.

However, Team Rocket had not the resources to control a vast number of these creations for long, and now, many Pokemorphs have been freed, and now, their own civilization has been born on a small island far north in the oceans. These Pokemorphs wish nothing more than to live in peace, though Team Rocket, and the Pokemorphs still loyal to them, work to reclaim the creations lost to them, while other forces wish to harness their power.

Thus is the world of Pokemorphs.<ref>http://pokemorph.com/ (retrieved June 13, 2011)</ref>}}

Furry Survey

2020-10-06T15:18:50Z

Novaaa: Undo revision 531275 by 73.58.155.152 (talk) Revert. Might have been made in good faith, but breaks the heading, and doesn't provide citation for change

{{time}}
:''The [[Furvey]] is a personal, detailed questionnaire that originated on [[alt.lifestyle.furry]]''

The '''Furry Survey''', developed by [[Alex Osaki]], is an ongoing, yearly furry surveying effort. According to its author, it is the largest general-purpose furry survey in the world <ref>[http://www.klisoura.com/furrypollfaq.php Furry Survey Frequently Asked Questions]</ref>. The current version is been put together for 2015; the 2008 version closed with just over 7000 respondents.<ref>[http://www.klisoura.com/ot_furrysurvey2008.php Furry Poll Results - 2008 edition]</ref>.

* '''Address:''' http://furrypoll.com/
** '''old website''': http://www.klisoura.com/furrypoll.php

Although inconsistently described as a "poll," it is in fact structured more along the lines of a census. Intended to compile information about people in the [[furry fandom]], it takes the form of a 32-question battery asking about [[Sexual preference|sexual orientation]] and other common demographic issues. As of February 5th, 2009, the survey sampled roughly 3350 persons<ref>[http://www.klisoura.com/ot_furrysurvey.php Furry Poll Results]</ref>.

== History ==

An initial version of the survey was compiled in late 2003 and posted to various Usenet groups and furry message boards. The project was then shelved until 2007, when it was rewritten into its current form as a large-scale collector of basic demographic information. At that point, the survey was also reconceived as a yearly exercise; a summary document covering responses submitted during 2008, entitled "State of the Fandom 2008," was released on June 27 of that year.<ref>[http://www.furcenter.org/pubs/SF_2008.pdf State of the Fandom 2008] (Adobe PDF format)</ref>

The 2009 version of the survey launched in mid-January and had gained several thousand responses by the end of that month.

== Summary ==

''Please note that the survey is ongoing and continues to update. Unless otherwise noted, results quoted in this article come from the 2008 version of the survey, which has since been superceded by a newer edition.''

In general, the results of the survey mesh with existing data, including that of the [[University of California, Davis]] campus.<ref>[http://studyf3.livejournal.com/1383.html Furry Survey Results - UC Davis]</ref> The survey reports that 78% of respondents were male, 80.9% self-identified as "Caucasian, non-Hispanic", and 68.3% reported their location as the United States (7.9% reported their location as Canada).

== General Demographics ==

The survey indicates a comparatively young fandom, with a third (33.2%) of respondents reporting their age as between 15 and 19; the average age of 23.28 years is very slightly younger than the UC-Davis indicated figure of 24.6 years. Correspondingly, around 60% of respondents said they had considered themselves a furry for between 0 and 5 years; 9.5% said they had done so for less than 1.

The education level tends to be fairly high. The percentage of American respondents aged 25 or higher reporting a college degree, at 52.9%, is substantially higher than the 29.4% reported by the US Census Bureau.<ref>[http://www.census.gov/prod/2004pubs/p20-550.pdf Educational Attainment in the United States: 2003]</ref>

Furries tended to report that they shied away from mainstream religions; about a quarter reported adhering to a Christian belief system; there were only 68 Jews, 12 Muslims, and 140 Buddhists out of 6525 people providing an answer about their religion. 7.6% reported their religion as "pagan". The most popular answers were agnosticism (22.7%) and atheism (21.2%); an "other" option (17.2%) includes a number of self-professed and otherwise blended religions.

== Furry issues ==

=== Self identity ===

78.1% of respondents [[Otherkin#Otherkin and Furry Fandom|identified]] "strongly" or "extremely strongly" as human. 6.2%, asked to respond to the statement "I am predominantly human", said that they did not consider themselves human at all.

=== Sexual orientation ===

Among respondents listing an orientation, 32.3% described themselves as heterosexual, 22.1% as homosexual, and 35.2% as bisexual. These numbers largely concur with those reported by the University of California (32.7% heterosexual, 25.5% homosexual, 37.3% bisexual), both of which differ substantially from [[David Rust]]'s 1999 survey of the fandom.

=== Sexual activity ===

Perhaps one of the more intriguing aspects comes from a series of questions asking respondents to describe how important they considered [[yiff|sex]] to be for their furry lives, as well as for the furry lives of others. A third question asked respondents to comment on the perception of the importance of sex by the public at large.

While the vast majority (86.7%) answered that the public assumed sex played a "large" or "extremely large" role in the furry fandom, only 13.9% of respondents answered similarly for themselves. The distribution is strongly skewed towards a minimising of the importance of sex; 41.3% said it played a "small" or "extremely small" role with the balance (25.5%) saying it played a "medium role".

However, they were more agnostic about their fellow furries. While around half (47.1%) said they thought it played a "medium" role in the lives of other furries, about a third (34.3%) said it played a "large" or "extremely large" role. More drastically, only 15.5% thought sex was played a small or extremely small role in the lives of other furries. No explanation is provided for this difference.

=== Zoophilia ===

18.4%{{citation needed}} of respondents self-identified as [[zoophilia|zoophiles]], an amount which may or may not be different in a statistical sense from the general population (Alvarez and Freinhar's control groups reported a 10% and 15% prevalence respectively). No questions were asked as to the degree of activity, if any.

Respondents were agnostic leaning negative towards zoophiles. Of users reporting an opinion, a plurality (36.8%) described themselves as ambivalent, with 18% reporting positive feelings and around 45% reporting negative ones. If the answer is limited to non-zoophiles, the number reporting "negative" or "extremely negative" feelings increases to 54.3%, with only 7% of non-zoophiles having a positive or extremely positive opinion.

=== Activities within the fandom ===

A portion of the survey is dedicated to exploring what people consider to be important within the fandom. Respondents consistently reported creative activity; 50.4% described themselves as artists and 40.4% as authors. Correspondingly, 90% described [[furry art|graphic art]] as "important" or "extremely important"; 60% said the same about [[furry fiction|writing]].

Besting both of these, 93.5% of respondents said that online communities were "important" or "extremely important", with 70.9% choosing the latter option--perhaps unsurprisingly given that the survey was administered online. Music was much less popular; only 23.6% of respondents described it as "important" or "extremely important"; 36.1% described it as "unimportant" or "extremely unimportant".

Around a third of furries (36.5%) described themselves as convention attendees; 63.3% of respondents considered conventions important or extremely important to the furry fandom; only 6.8% described them as unimportant.

=== Websites ===

When asked if they belonged to any furry websites, 78.9% of respondents answered in the affirmative. Of these, [[Fur Affinity]] was the clear winner, with almost three quarters of all persons listing websites saying they belonged in some fashion to FA. Websites spotlighting local groups were also popular, particular those tied to the United Kingdom and Australia. Furry writing website [[Yiffstar]] took the #2 spot, joined by artistic sites like [[VCL]] (#3), [[DeviantArt]] (#6) and [[Artspots]] (#8) in the top 10. Rounding out this list was [[Pounced]] (#4), [[Furtopia]] (#5), [[FurNation]] (#7), [[WikiFur]] (#9), and [[Furcadia]] (#10).

=== Species ===

3785 persons identified a particular species that they said they identified with. Among these, canines were a 44.2% plurality, with wolves making up 17.9% of respondents and red foxes 12.9%. Domestic cats were the third most popular option, with 8.6%, followed by dragons (6.5%), tigers (4.2%), unspecified domestic dogs (3.6%), lions (2.6%), rabbits (2.3%), huskies and raccoons (2.1% each).<ref>[http://www.furcenter.org/pubs/Furry_Species.pdf Species representation in the furry fandom]</ref>

== Miscellaneous ==

The data from the survey matches closely with that from the University of California in suggesting that ~80% of furries are not themselves fursuiters. On the whole, furries display a strong commonality of interests; 68% described themselves as being fans of science-fiction; 71.9% said they were fans of science and technology or computers. 53.6% described themselves as fans of anime; 59.2% as fans of role-playing games.

MUSH

2020-08-08T08:56:42Z

Novaaa: Accommodate all redirects, fix many links

A '''MUSH''' (acronym for '''M'''ulti-'''U'''ser '''S'''hared '''H'''allucination) is a type of [[MUD]] which is often used for social and [[role-playing]] activities. It is derived from "''Tinymud''", an early mud server. Its distinguishing features are that any player can typically extend the virtual world by building new rooms and objects, and its internal programming language, MUSHcode, which is considered to be fairly easy to learn and preferred by many.

There are a number of flavors of MUSH server freely available to those who want to run their own MUSHes: [https://github.com/TinyMUSH/TinyMUSH/wiki TinyMUSH 3.0], [https://www.tinymux.org/ TinyMUX 2.4], and [https://www.pennmush.org/ PennMUSH 1.8.x]. TinyMUSH uses a disk-based database, while PennMUSH keeps its database in the computer's memory (TinyMUX can do either). This makes PennMUSH suitable for computers which have plenty of memory or little disk space. From a user standpoint they offer many similar features and a very similar command parser.<ref>[https://www.pennmush.org/ PennMUSH.org]</ref>

MUSHes are similar to [[MUCK]]s in that they carry many users for either [[Out Of Character|out of character]] (OOC) or [[In Character|in character]] (IC) purposes. Like MUCKs, MUSHes are not necessarily furry, but some do have furry themes.

==Types of MUSH Servers==
There are four major MUSH code bases currently in use<ref>[https://wiki.tinymux.org/index.php/History History] from the [https://wiki.tinymux.org/index.php/Main_Page TinyMUX wiki]</ref>:
* TinyMUSH - TinyMUSH 3.x is based on a merge of TinyMUSH 2.2 and TinyMUX 1.x. TinyMUSH 2.2 is based on TinyMUSH 2.0 which is based on TinyCRWU and PernMUSH (the code) which are in turn based on MicroMUSE, TinyMUSH 1.0, and ultimately from TinyMUD.
* PennMUSH - PennMUSH derives from PernMUSH (the code), MicroMUSE, TinyMUSH 1.0 and ultimately from TinyMUD.
* TinyMUX - TinyMUX 2.0 is based on TinyMUX 1.x which in turn is based on TinyMUSH 2.0 and ultimately TinyMUD.
* RhostMUSH - RhostMUSH 3.9 is based on the RhostMUSH 3.2.4 which is based on RhostMUSH 2.0/1.0 and ultimately TinyMUD.

== Examples ==
* [https://mush.pennmush.org/ <nowiki>M*U*S*H</nowiki>] - The live sandbox for projects on the PennMUSH code base and also the official MUSH used as the testing ground for new PennMUSH server code updates. All patches are tested there first before being released to the public. This is primarily an OOC MUSH.
* [[Shangrila]] - Adult-oriented MUX, attaining anywhere from over 200 to almost 600 connections.
* [[Beast Wars Transformers MUSH]]
* [[FurryMUSH]]
* [[Loneport MUSH]]
* [[My Little Pony MUSH]]
* [[Pokémorph MUSH]]
* [[Starfox MUSH]]
* [[Thunder Trails MUSH]]
* [[Wild Spirits MUSH]]

Most of the earlier major Florida Fur activities originated in Orlando; [[Furloween]], [[Furry Spring Break]], and [[Megaplex]] were created in Orlando and staffed mostly by locals to the area. The [[Funday Pawpet Show]] also originates from the area, as did the [[Orlando Furry Archives]].

== Groups ==

In December 2004, a number of furries in the area created a formal Orlando Furs group ([[OFURS]]) to help organize and promote furry events in the Orlando area.

A second mailing list, Orlando Area Furs, was created in September 2006.

Not all furries in the area utilized these groups; many of the region's [[greymuzzle]]s stayed within their own groups of friends, or primarily used the traditional Florida Furs mailing list and [[LiveJournal]] instead.{{fact}}

In August 2012, a weekly [[furmeet]] called [[The Orlando Taco Tuesday & Movie Meet!]] was created.

In 2015 The Orlando Taco Tuesday & Movie Meet transitioned and became the Weekly Oblivion Meet. It was hosted there until Oblivion closed in May of 2018. The group moved to a new location Graffiti Junktion in Thornton Park where it was held until late January of 2020 and placed on hiatus with the outbreak of Covid-19.
As of July 7, 2020 the group has resumed weekly operations at Ace Cafe Orlando with a new name, The Orlando Tuesday Meet.

Orlando furs are also active on their Meetup.com group.<ref>[https://www.meetup.com/Florida-Furs/ Florida Furs Meetup.com page (de facto an Orlando group)]</ref>

== Conventions and large events ==

Orlando has both of Florida's current (as of January 2020) conventions, Furloween and Megaplex.
* [[Furloween]] began in 1999
* [[Furry Spring Break]] occurred in 2001 but was cancelled before its intended second event in 2002
* [[Megaplex]] began in 2002
* [[Elliott's Live Events]] began in [[Wikipedia:Winter Garden, Florida|Winter Garden]] in 2007 and occurred in other places in the Orlando area until 2016

'''South East Florida Furs''', abbreviated as '''SEFF''', is a [[furry]] group that is based in the southeastern portion of [[Florida]], USA.

==History==
'''SEFF''' began back in the Summer of 2010.{{Citation needed}} Since then, it has transformed into a large group of [[furries]] encompassing South Florida with a large number of members in chat and has consistent weekly meets available for any local or visiting furs to attend. As of October 2019, the chat has been run by Kiki Jager (Owner @Kikiohater) and Pooky (Co-Owner @AddyVi), who reside in [[W:Miami|Miami]] and [[W:Broward, Florida|Broward]] respectively.

==General==
The group currently communicates mainly through [[W:Telegram_(software)|Telegram]] and offers a way for furries in the tri-county area ([[W:Broward County, Florida|Broward County]], [[W:Miami-Dade County, Florida|Miami-Dade County]], and [[W:Palm Beach County, Florida|Palm Beach County]]) to network and socialize. The main Telegram chat offers a way to navigate to the respective chats for [[Official Miami Furs]] (OMF) run by Pajammers and [[Furries of Broward County]] (FBC) run by Austin and Lillith.

SEFF aids as an umbrella in support, networking, and advertising for these county chats. The group offers a platform for members to host and share local events and [[furmeets]], and it encourages and supports furries in safe public endeavors.

==Events==
===Fursonification===
SEFF sponsors and hosts Fursonification, an annual beach meet at Dr.Von Mizell-Eula State Park (Formerly known as John U Lloyd State Park) in [[W:Dania Beach, Florida|Dania Beach]] that offers food and entertainment under a pavilion just a stone's throw from the sandy beaches Florida is known for.
2020 marks the 10th annual Fursonification with the official date being announced for May 2nd, 2020<ref>[https://twitter.com/SEFFurs/status/1223737613342969856 Announcement of 10th annual Fursonification] post on [[Twitter]]</ref>. Fursonification hosts furs from in and out of state and offers guests a BBQ lunch and carnival style desserts just yards from the shore. 2020 will feature art created by guest artist and Miami local JennyFur, inflatables provided by Miami local TrebleHusky, and concessions provided in part by Broward local FizzyFox.

FurryMap.net

2020-06-29T02:03:16Z

Novaaa: Fix link

'''FurryMap.net''' was a website and mapping service created in 2008 by [[Kimura]] to create a database of furries around the world. The idea was based off [[The Furry Map of Germany]], originally made by [[Eisfuchs]] and was built on the [[wikipedia:OpenStreetMap|OpenStreetMap]] and [[wikipedia:OpenLayers|OpenLayers]] mapping technology. As of May 5, 2019, FurryMap.net is offline due to software no longer being supported.

== Improvements from The Furry Map of Germany==

The Furry Map of Germany was being gradually replaced by FurryMap.net due to a number of new capabilities with the new technology, which included:

* Zoomable map by [[W:OpenStreetMap|OpenStreetMap]]
* User profiles
* Usage of [[W:OpenID|OpenID]]
* Multiple access-levels
