The idea for '''AnthroArchives''' originated from a [[LiveJournal]] entry in which the fact was mentioned that no actively updated story archives specifically for the furry fandom existed. One such source for stories, [[Mia's Index of Anthro Stories]], contained only a collection of links and had not been updated since 2002. Tygermoon Foxx worked with [[Tet]] and the first version of the site was created. Later in 2007 due to changes in how the archive needed to be managed Tygermoon requested Simtra to create a new site and in March of 2007 it was moved to a new hosting provider running on TinyPortal.

As of 2012, the site has been taken over by a group involved in anthropology studies.

Coach Random is a webcomic (now finished) by Scott Ruhl. It was originally published in the [http://www.cavalierdaily.com Cavalier Daily] from August 29, 2001 through April 23, 2004, and was given its own website on the University of Virginia's server. The humor is based mostly on college situations.

After the author graduated, his website was removed. Some time later, Mr. Initial Man was able to get in contact with Scott, and obtained permission to rebuild the website.

'''Staircon''' is the nickname given to [[Anthrocon 2001]] by some of its attendees.

The convention was held for the first time in the [[Adam's Mark]] Philadelphia, which at the time had an older elevator system for guests. The elevators were unable to handle the traffic during the convention, forcing attendees to utilize the stairwells or (for those who found them) the staff elevators.

As the theme of Anthrocon 2001 was "Furries in Flight", it became common for attendees to change this to "Furries in Flight(s of Stairs)", or variants thereof, in later con reports.

The hotel, to its credit, took action to upgrade their elevators in future years.

During the [[Feedback Session]] at [[Anthrocon 2004]], a fan made the complaint that the risers on the stairs were too tall, and it was too easy to trip. To his credit, [[Uncle Kage]] was nonplussed for a moment, then said that he would take up the matter with the hotel.

As it was explained shortly thereafter, the hotel would be their venue only for 2005 as they were looking into a new permanent home for the convention. This would later turn out to be in [[wikipedia:Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania|Pittsburgh]]. To date, the Wyndham is the only hotel Anthrocon has used for only one year.

The original series is set in [[Wikipedia:Las Vegas|Las Vegas]], [[Wikipedia:Nevada|Nevada]]. Spinoff series called ''CSI: Miami'' and ''CSI: New York'' have debuted to cater to those local markets.

The fifth aired (but sixth produced) episode of season four, '''''Fur and Loathing''''' (first aired 30 October 2003), had [[character]]s [[Wikipedia:Gil Grissom|Gil Grissom]] and [[Wikipedia:Catherine Willows|Catherine Willows]] investigating the murder of a [[raccoon]] [[fursuiter]] and following the trail to a fictional [[furry]] [[convention]] called [[PafCon (CSI)|PafCon]]. The show portrayed furry conventions as being not much more than lectures and sex orgies, showcasing a private [[furpile]] during one scene. Gil Grissom, though, saw spiritual aspects to the fandom and even took interest to a speech and other information relating furry fandom to ancient spirituality.

== Collaboration with Southern California Furries ==

In August of 2003, the producers of CSI approached Dark Fox (now known as [[Sabre Fox]]), who was then head of the [[SoCalFurs]] Yahoo! Group, inviting local furries to participate as extras in the already-scripted and in-progress episode "featuring" furry fandom. Dark Fox made an optimistic post to the mailing list, suggesting that furries might be able to finally contribute to portraying the fandom in accurate, positive light.<ref>[http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SoCalFurs/message/7568 "Attn SoCalFurs!"]</ref> Much discussion was taken up about the positive and negative consequences such an episode would bring to the furry fandom.

Since the third episode, B-Hop has written the scripts to include "cutaways", or opportunities for fans of the podcast to have their own voices appear in the episode. These are usually in the form of brief interviews and sound bites. The listeners portray athletes, coaches, team managers, owners, and other characters in the FBA Universe. The "cutaways" are usually recorded live during the podcast recording, which is broadcast over [[Wikipedia:Livestream|LiveStream]]. Listeners who want to contribute call in either with [[Wikipedia:Skype|Skype]], [[Wikipedia:iChat|iChat]] or cell phone to have their voices recorded. The live podcast recording sessions are held irregularly on the weekends, depending on when B-Hop can find time to write a script and host a recording session. The podcast is released after up to a month of post-production.

T. Matt is a coyote in his mid-fourties who has been covering basketball for much of his life. Originally an announcer for the FBA, he was forced out after demanding that Julio Onca be forced out after the panther clawed and seriously injured Buck Hopper. He lives in Rohnet Park, California, and has a strong dislike for the state of Oregon. He holds the distinction of getting the last interview with Brock Horace Thiessen, the last living player of the Hamilton Mariner's inaugural season (1920-1921).

He has a large collection of jersies, including some true oddballs such as the 1980 Bryn Mastiffson Jersey (his is the only one known to be signed by Mastiffson himself), the jerseys of the defunct Small Furs Basketball Association and the jersey Brock Thiessen wore in 1925.

The first episode of the FBA Post Up Podcast was released on FurAffinity on June 17, 2009. The original intent of the podcast was as a story-telling device for the 2009 FBA Finals, which pitted Buck Hopper's team the Stanislaus Thrust against the Huntsville Mayors. The first podcast described the events of the first game of the series, ran only 3 and a half minutes, featured only T. Matt Latrans and had no music.

===Episode #2: 2009 Finals Game 2===
The second episode was released on June 21, 2009, and was the first to use background music after furry musical artist [[Badd Will]] gave permission to B-Hop to use his song "Teddy." The song has been used as the background theme for every episode ever since, and the first episode was re-edited to add the song.

===Episode #3: 2009 Finals Game 3===
The third episode was released on June 26, 2009, and was the first episode to feature a cutaway. The simulated sound bite was recorded by [[JTigerclaw]] playing the character of squirrel small forward Zip-Nut.

The sixth episode was released on July 31, 2009, and was the first episode to feature multiple cutaways. [[Roby_Panther|Roby]] played the voice of wolf power forward Jack Howell, and JTigerclaw played goat power forward Tyler Kiko.

The seventh episode was released on August 17, 2009, and was the first episode to be recorded online. The recording of T. Even though the podcast was originally intended to cover only the 2009 FBA Finals, after the series had ended with 7 games, the podcast continued by covering the off-season. The eighth episode was released on September 27, 2009, and was the first to cover several FBA news stories instead of a game. This episode also introduced T. Matt's intern Jimmy (unnamed at the time), when he got chewed out by John Stoat for asking about the (then) ermine's naturalization process. At the end of the episode, T. Matt passed along an apology from his intern.

The FBA Post Up Podcast is a fully scripted and edited audio podcast produced by [[Buck Hopper]]. Recording and editing is done entirely in [[Wikipedia:Protools|Pro Tools 9]].

The podcast is unique in that it uses the voices of its listeners. Since the third episode, B-Hop has written the scripts to include "cutaways", or opportunities for fans of the podcast to have their own voices appear in the episode. These are usually in the form of brief interviews and sound bites. The listeners portray athletes, coaches, team managers, owners, and other characters in the FBA Universe. The "cutaways" are usually recorded live during the podcast recording, which is broadcast over [[Wikipedia:Livestream|LiveStream]]. Listeners who want to contribute call in either with [[Wikipedia:Skype|Skype]], [[Wikipedia:iChat|iChat]] or cell phone to have their voices recorded. It is not uncommon for several actors to try playing the same role, leaving either B-Hop or the listeners to decide on the best performance. In this way, each episode features the voice talents of many members of the furry community, with new voice actors being featured in most every episode.

The live podcast recording sessions are held irregularly on the weekends, depending on when B-Hop can find time to write a script and host a recording session. The podcast is released after up to a month of post-production.

T. Matt is a coyote in his mid-fourties who has been covering basketball for much of his life. Originally an announcer for the FBA, he was forced out after demanding that Julio Onca be forced out after the panther clawed and seriously injured Buck Hopper. He lives in Rohnet Park, California, and has a strong dislike for the state of Oregon. He holds the distinction of getting the last interview with Brock Horace Thiessen, the last living player of the Hamilton Mariner's inaugural season (1920-1921).

He has a large collection of jersies, including some true oddballs such as the 1980 Bryn Mastiffson Jersey, the jerseys of the defunct Small Furs Basketball Association and the jersey Brock Thiessen wore in 1925.

The FBA Post Up Podcast is a fully scripted and edited audio podcast produced by [[Buck Hopper]]. Recording and editing is done entirely in [[Wikipedia:Protools|Pro Tools 9]].

The podcast is unique in that it uses the voices of its listeners. Since the third episode, B-Hop has written the scripts to include "cutaways", or opportunities for fans of the podcast to have their own voices appear in the episode. These are usually in the form of brief interviews and sound bites. The listeners portray athletes, coaches, team managers, owners, and other characters in the FBA Universe. The "cutaways" are usually recorded live during the podcast recording, which is broadcast over [[Wikipedia:Livestream|LiveStream]]. Listeners who want to contribute call in either with [[Wikipedia:Skype|Skype]], [[Wikipedia:iChat|iChat]] or cell phone to have their voices recorded. It is not uncommon for several actors to try playing the same role, leaving either B-Hop or the listeners to decide on the best performance. In this way, each episode features the voice talents of many members of the furry community, with new voice actors being featured in most every episode.

The live podcast recording sessions are held irregularly on the weekends, depending on when B-Hop can find time to write a script and host a recording session. The podcast is released after up to a month of post-production.

T. Matt is a coyote in his mid-fourties who has been covering basketball for much of his life. Originally an announcer for the FBA, he was forced out after demanding that Julio Onca be forced out after the panther clawed and seriously injured Buck Hopper. He lives in Rohnet Park, California, and has a strong dislike for the state of Oregon. He holds the distinction of getting the last interview with Brock Horace Thiessen, the last living player of the Hamilton Mariner's inaugural season (1920-1921).

He has a large collection of jersies, including some true oddballs such as the 1980 Bryn Mastiffson Jersey, the jerseys of the defunct Small Furs Basketball League, and the 1925 Brock Thiessen Jersey.

The FBA Post Up Podcast is a fully scripted and edited audio podcast produced by [[Buck Hopper]]. Recording and editing is done entirely in [[Wikipedia:Protools|Pro Tools 8]].

The podcast is unique in that it uses the voices of its listeners. Since the third episode, B-Hop has written the scripts to include "cutaways", or opportunities for fans of the podcast to have their own voices appear in the episode. These are usually in the form of brief interviews and sound bites. The listeners portray athletes, coaches, team managers, owners, and other characters in the FBA Universe. The "cutaways" are usually recorded live during the podcast recording, which is broadcast over [[Wikipedia:Livestream|LiveStream]]. Listeners who want to contribute call in either with [[Wikipedia:Skype|Skype]], [[Wikipedia:iChat|iChat]] or cell phone to have their voices recorded. It is not uncommon for several actors to try playing the same role, leaving either B-Hop or the listeners to decide on the best performance. In this way, each episode features the voice talents of many members of the furry community, with new voice actors being featured in most every episode.

The live podcast recording sessions are held irregularly on the weekends, depending on when B-Hop can find time to write a script and host a recording session. The podcast is released after up to a month of post-production.

Unfortunatly, if the present trend continues, FurNation will have to close its doors as of October 1st, 2008. I do not wish to do this, but the rising debt I am accumulating will force this issue upon me.

On 8 December 2009, [[Nexxus]] announced on the site front page and forums that the FurNation PayPal account had been suspended for terms of use violations, and that the site's ISP had also received a complaint. Discussion ensued, one topic of which was the lack of proof for these assertions. The Dragoneer strongly denied the claims on his Twitter account, stating that Fur Affinity had lost its own PayPal account access earlier that year, without blaming FurNation.

Later that day, the FurNation page was replaced with the text: "FurNation is gone. So long, and thanks for all the <s>carrots</s> cocks," as well as "lol bitches" in black-on-black text beneath it. Its Twitter account held the message "FurNation is offline, this time for good. So long and thanks for all the fish."

On 10 December 2009, FurNation's URL address resolved to http://www.furisdead.com/, a site run by [[Wikipedia:PETA|PETA]]. By 12 December it was resolving to a mail portal bearing the FurNation logo.

Reyedog took over Furnation around December 23, 2009 and reopened the site, with websites due to return on Jan. 1st, 2010. The website was hosted on Ning.com. On 28 December 2004, Nexxus announced his intent to convert FurNation to AnthroNation, with the addition of [[Fantasy]] and [[Sci-fi]] websites. He also announced the FurNation toolbar, which was never released.

Around March 2008, the website was hacked and all user websites, most of which pre-dated the current incarnation which includes the gallery system and shoutbox, were lost. Because those sites were not backed up on the server, all accounts and information on those sites were lost.

In a [http://furnation.com/index.php?showtopic=31737 post appearing on the front page] on March 28, 2008, zerodog posted a message in which he stated "FurNation is not responsible for the maintaining or backup of any data stored on personal websites or any other hosted sites. However FurNation owned sites such as FurNation Forums and FurPlanet are backed up regularly as are their respective databases. It is ultimately the End users responsibility to keep up with there data, not ours. If data is lost we will try to recover it using recovery tools but there is NO assurances that we can."

On September 7, 2008, Nexxus sent the following email to FurNation users:

Unfortunatly, I have paid out of pocket for the service since its inception. Donations have helped, along with the income that FurPlanet generated to support the service. Since I have sold FurPlanet to Argyll Productions the server fees are once again running me into a lot of debt.

We were getting help on the server fees, but the debt I have to pay back is getting way out of control. I would like to keep the server running with donations alone, but last month we managed only 135 dollars toward the total monthly fees of 400 dollars. I do appreciate those who donated, and I put the money towards the fees.

Unfortunatly, if the present trend continues, FurNation will have to close its doors as of October 1st, 2008. I do not wish to do this, but the rising debt I am accumulating will force this issue upon me.

If you would like to keep FurNation online, please consider a donation for the service. Once again, if we have to close its been a hell of a 12 year run and I have had a great time providing this service to the community.

Beginning the morning of May 23, the front page of the site featured only this simple message:

The site was then re-opened on May 25, with a slightly increased reserve of funds for the server upkeep. This was the second time that the FurNation website had temporarily suspended operations in its 13-year history.

=== Transfer to community ownership ===

On May 26, 2009, "The FurNation Support Team" sent an email to FurNation users announcing that the service would continue to operate and would be run by a group:

On 8 December 2009, [[Nexxus]] announced on the site front page and forums that the FurNation PayPal account had been suspended for terms of use violations, and that the site's ISP had also received a complaint. Discussion ensued, one topic of which was the lack of proof for these assertions. The Dragoneer strongly denied the claims on his Twitter account, stating that Fur Affinity had lost its own PayPal account access earlier that year, without blaming FurNation.

Later that day, the FurNation page was replaced with the text: "FurNation is gone. So long, and thanks for all the <s>carrots</s> cocks," as well as "lol bitches" in black-on-black text beneath it. Its Twitter account held the message "FurNation is offline, this time for good. So long and thanks for all the fish."

On 10 December 2009, FurNation's URL address resolved to http://www.furisdead.com/, a site run by [[Wikipedia:PETA|PETA]]. By 12 December it was resolving to a mail portal bearing the FurNation logo.

===Reopening under Reyedog===
Reyedog took over Furnation around December 23, 2009 and reopened the site, with websites due to return on Jan. 1st, 2010. The website was hosted on Ning.com. Coach Random is a webcomic (now finished) by Scott Ruhl. It was originally published in the [http://www.cavalierdaily.com Cavalier Daily] from August 29, 2001 through April 23, 2004, and was given its own website on the University of Virginia's server. The humor is based mostly on college situations.

After the author graduated, his website was removed. Some time later, John-David Kraaikamp was able to get in contact with Scott, and obtained permission to rebuild the website.
