Sam Starfall is an alien character in the webcomic Freefall. He is the captain of the Savage Chicken and a freelance con artist. He has aspirations to become as infamous a thief as Bruno the Bandit, although he already has quite a reputation with a wide range of restaurants and other establishments, not to mention all the people whose wallets and wristwatches he's stolen.

Despite his constant trickery and self-serving tendencies, Sam cannot be considered evil. It could be argued that he lacks the mental capacity. In addition, some of his most daring exploits in larceny have been for things he was simply too lazy to buy and did not intend to keep. So on one hand, his clumsiness tends to foil his plots, whereas on the other hand, his twisted logic may serve to get him out of trouble. It is also implied that his behavior is a common characteristic of his species.

Sam has exhibited a Tom Sawyer-like insistence on pulling off crimes the "proper way." During one attempt to escape through the roof of a museum he just robbed, his rope came untied; Sam's response was to leave through the door, climb up to the roof, retie the rope, return through the door, and then climb up the rope — requiring him to pay the admission fee on the way back in. Sam also has a huge ego, which (among other things) makes him oblivious to the fact that his own ship's computer has it in for him.

Since the arrival of his ship's engineer, Florence Ambrose (which he arranged by bribing a shipping clerk), he has at times been foiled by Florence's unerring honesty, although he certainly appreciates her hard work in getting his ship in working order. After receiving the commission for his first honest job, he admitted he was tempted to "go straight". Still, he has also been trying to get Florence to "loosen up" for the entire time she has been working for him.

Sam's true physical form has never actually been seen, with the possible exception of fan art. He claims to be of a race of sapient squid-like beings (who appear to have at least six limbs) and wears a humanoid environmental suit complete with an animatronic face which he controls with his "cute little facial tentacles." By diet he is a scavenger, and he has said that his physical appearance has the tendency to cause people to give up their lunch — which, attractive an offer as it is, is still annoying.

However, despite the trail of chaos (and frayed tempers) he leaves in his wake, Sam's actions have suggested he isn't a bad person (or alien) at heart. He has never been known to have intentionally hurt anyone, and his cheerful demeanor (aided by the happy face permanently manufactured onto his environment suit) has appealed to Freefall's readers, who enjoy watching his successes just as much as the times he ends up being beaten with a stick.

Everybody Hates Her is a furry webcomic produced by Panik EVlynn Bedlam and Glenda Bixby. The comic debuted in November of 2011, and it is updated every Wednesday. Each update is a full-page panel. The comic has been collected into a self-published, printed zine. As of June 2012, issue #1 is available and issue #2 will debut at Anthrocon.

Panik Bedlam writes: "Everybody Hates Her is a stark examination of friendship in the crucible of harsh circumstance. Our story follows Bixby, a fallen nurse, who strives to find a place in a world where she feels she no longer belongs, seeking virtue but often derailed by the baser temptations offered by this world. Her only ally is an eccentric pawn shop owner, Panik, who's conflicted life of vice makes their path to salvation a difficult one.

"Using contemporary symbolism and shojo anime styling to convey a dark world of crime fiction noir; it is an expressionist piece serving to create, not an analog to the real world, but a philosophical examination of the world we create for ourselves. Using an unusual combination of artistic styles, Everybody Hates Her hopes to create both a touching and visceral experience."

Animalympics

2009-10-09T15:08:33Z

Modemac:

Animalympics is an animated television special that was created by Steven Lisberger (creator of the film Tron) for the 1980 Olympic Games. The show had two parts: the Winter Games, a half-hour special (22 minutes) which was aired February 1, 1980, and the Summer Games, an hour special (44 minutes) which was to be aired in the summer of 1980, but was never shown due to the US boycott of the Summer Olympic Games. The two shows were then edited together, with some filler scenes removed, into a 78 minute feature that was shown on pay TV channels and eventually released on VHS. It was released on DVD, in Germany on October 5, 2007.

Animalympics is the story of the animal version of the Olympic Games. Anthropomorphic animals of many diverse species came to compete in winter and summer game events, representing the continents of their origin. Many now-famous animators and voice talents contributed to the project. The style of the character design and art production was something short of Disney, but much better then typical Saturday Morning fare. The story revolved around the coverage of the games by the ZOO network, an obvious parody of the "close up and personal" style coverage of sporting events by TV networks. Many well-known celebrities' voices were spoofed by the voice actors, including Howard Cosell and Barbara Walters (by Billy Crystal and Gilda Radner respectively). The show was aimed at a broad audience, with much of the humor flying over the heads of kids. The soundtrack, including some original vocal numbers, was created by Graham Gouldman, of the pop group 10cc.

Animalympics was screened at the first Furry party, in 1985 (before the word Furry had come into common usage). The special version that was shown included a very rare complete copy of the Winter Games and a carefully edited version of the feature, returned to the original Summer Games format. This "special edition" was created by members the C/FO animation fan club, and was screened at Science Fiction conventions and Furry parties all over the world. The show's dry humor, clever story and attractive characters made Animalympics one of the most popular "exclusive" films of Furry Fandom. At least part of its popularity among fur fen can be attributed to the sheer number of animal species found in it, many of them rarely (if ever) animated before. An otter, a Russian sable, a mink, a flamingo, an orca, hedgehogs, and squid are among the dozens of animal types in the cast. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the fans who had seen the show so many times that most could repeat the dialog entirely from memory (and often do), Animalympics has been called "The Rocky Horror of Furry Fandom".

Several characters from the movie have attracted their own followers and fans within furry fandom, especially Kit Mambo, Dean Wilson, and Kurt Wuffner. (The character design for Kit Mambo was an influence on Ken Sample's original forays into furry artwork.)

Steven Lisberger, however, has apparently disavowed his role in the creation of this film. In the director's commentary on the "special edition" DVD of Tron, Lisberger described Tron as his first animated feature film; he seemed reluctant to mention his "previous" animated feature when the subject was brought up.

The Cross Time Cafe is a crossover webcomic started in 2003. It features characters from Freefall, 21st Century Fox, Carry On and Freighter Tails, as well as various characters from these comics' forums. The comics are primarily drawn (in order, by total number of strips drawn) by Scudder "White Pony" Kidwell, Kathy Kellogg (née Garrison), Mark Stanley and/or Scott Kellogg, with occasional guest artists.

The concept behind the comic is that it exists outside of the above comics' continuities, allowing the characters to let their hair down and relax. As noted on the site itself:

:What you see and read inside the "Cross Time Cafe" here in no way reflects or affects what is happening inside the Official Online Canon of anyone [sic] artist's currently running storyline. What takes place inside the "Cross Time Cafe" is all in fun and silliness; and should not be taken seriously.

The general plot line has Florence (Freefall), White Pony (S. Kidwell's character) and Mzzkiti (Freighter Tails) running the Cross Time Cafe in their spare time. They are frequently visited by Jack Black, Jenny Curtis (21st CF) and Kathy Grrsn (Carry On), as well as other characters. Florence and White Pony are a couple, an idea that originated in APAs and fanzines of old, well before the current webcomics.

Each episode of the strip is written in "round robin" style: the current artist is free to continue whatever happened in the previous strip, taking off in any direction he or she chooses. This has resulted in two or three ongoing subplots, which have slowly proceeded since the beginnings of the strip:

* Florence and White Pony have become lost exploring the catacombs beneath the Cafe (though it is implied they aren't very far away).
* Mzzkiti is attempting to manage the actual cafe, though she has to put up with incompetence from her employees...especially Sam Starfall, who acquired a monstrous wreck of a food-vending machine that now needs to be repaired.
* A clutch of sqids (Sam's origin species) have shown up, and are in the beginning stages of their own plan for world domination.

History
A pretty good History of FurryMUCK was prepared by Jahangiri, covering 1990 to 2000:

Here is a summary:
*August 1990: BlueMage, Neil M, a student at North Carolina State University started a Muck on one of the servers. The theme was to mimic the university's campus which has unusual areas like underground steam tunnels. There were steam tunnels, a bandstand, and other initial objects. BlueMage, invited Gypsy, Melissa Whitfield, to help out with building the Muck. She was made a wizard (object #2). Melissa saw that the project would be a large endeavor and invited her boyfriend Drew Maxell to help with the building. The NCState theme didnt seem to catch on. A new theme was discussed and Drew brought in the idea of FurryMUCK (hatched from discussions between him and his housemates). Drew then invited his housemates Ashtoreth, Shaterri, Centaur, and Erych, Abigail (Claire Benedikt), Ryuuko - Revar, lynx and Tugrik arrive shortly after the launch
*Spring 1991: FurryMUCK outgrows the resources and good graces of the administrators at NC State. It moves to the University of California at Irvine. Siegfried became a wizard, as did Lionman, Carelia, and Tugrik; Erych left soon after. Archteryx was made a wizard for a few days by Drew without approval and was dewizzed shortly after.
*April 1991: The original taxi, the Cafe Rose, and Lynx's truffel program are installed; 10,000 objects reached. Drew and Gypsy were no longer dating and personal conflicts led to Gypsy being dewizzed and resigning FurryMUCK. Gypsy occassionally visits FurryMuck to watch its incredible growth.
*October 1991: 20,000 objects reached
*November 1991: FurryMUCK is forced to move to Carnegie-Mellon University (Shaterri's workplace) by the actions of a user called Bruce
*1992: Helpstaff formed; lynx, Revar, Mishael, Kimi and Riss are made wizards, while Ashtoreth, Carelia, Lionman, and Siegfried resign - Revar resigns later in the year
*August 1992: 50,000 objects reached
*September 1992: FurryMUCK is deleted, but mostly restored from Revar's backups; relaunched at the University of Toronto with Chris Siebemann administering
*New Year's Day 1993: The Quicksilver virus written by Targhan infects the MUCK, diverting all conversation to Yozduk, who posts the log on rec.games.mud.tiny
*Spring 1993: The Demons vs Angels role-play takes place
*April 1993: 75,000 objects reached
*Summer 1993: A PG-13 rating is enforced in the Park
*October 1993: S'A'Alis begins hosting FurryMUCK, becoming a wizard shortly afterwards
*March 1994: Wired publishes Johnny Manhattan Meets the Furry Muckers, and FurryMUCK gets a deluge of sex-seekers
*July 1994: 100,000 objects reached
*Mid-1994: Triggur is elected as Mayor of FurryMUCK
*1995: Data corruption on the move to a new server causes FurryMUCK to finally implement proper backup procedures; Kimi retires from the wizcorp, Nightwind replaced her, and K'has, O'Nara and Slipstream joined too, while AJWolf "acquires" the mayoralty
*July 1995: 125,000 objects reached
*Late 1995: Lumpy the Squirrel, the primary source of urine in the FurryMUCK park pond, is finally toaded once and for all; the pool is thoroughly cleaned afterwards
*February 1996: The passing of the CDA causes FurryMUCK to implement age restrictions on certain areas for people below 18 years of age
*March 1996: Vulpine, one of several who has falsely declared his age to pass the restrictions files an affidavit with the ACLU - the result was his permanent banning, after much discussion on alt.fan.furry.muck and elsewhere
*November 1996: Chip Unicorn and Points join as wizards at ConFurence 7 in 1996, while Frang takes over as Mayor
*1997: Mishael retires as wizard
*July 1997: 175,000 objects reached
*October 1997: Toast is elected as Mayor
*9 February 1998: FurryMUCK records 500 simultaneous users
*June-August 1998: Debate over the use of the wixxx flag pedophile causes it to be pulled and replaced with WhatIsz (retaining the same global 'wixxx' command) and the broader term ageplay
*August 1998: Inari is elected as Mayor
*31 October 1998: FurryMUCK temporarily becomes FurryMORGUE, the last 99 & 44/100% gangrenous Furry TinyMu*
*February 1999: Points and Slipstream retire from wizarding
*April 1999: Brenda added to wizcorp as coder, while Riss is dewizzed due to lack of time, leaving amicably
*11 April 1999: FurryMUCK moves to a dedicated server
*June 1999: Silent Red resigns as a wizard
*July 1999: Aragh becomes a PR wizard
*October 1999: Mwerevu is elected as Mayor
*June 2000: Rosa de Stitches is elected Mayor, only to step down a few months later amidst controversy
*October 2000: @shout is removed over age concerns and abuse. A private version called "Scream", written by Sarusa, fills the void left by @shout. Being outside of wizard control, it is not censored and becomes a community of its own.
*March 2001: Dwight Dutton started an eBay auction on the domain names furrymuck.com/net/org. The wizards were not pleased (see this post to a.f.f. by Shaterri), and shut the auction down, but not before it reached $500. Darrel Exline, the high bidder, bought the names for $550, and later let the domain registrations lapse. Triggur bought them and donated them back to FurryMUCK. The domains are now managed by lynx. One result was an increased highlighting of the use of the term "FurryMUCK" as a service mark.

Places
In general, all public areas of FurryMUCK are officially PG-13, although conversation has a habit of straying into more mature topics. Private areas, and areas specified for the purpose, may have a higher rating. See also FurryMUCK locations for significant locations with their own articles.

Hermaphrodite Haven
The Hermaphrodite Haven (t hh) is an establishment for hermaphrodite enthusiasts and fetishists, party to both hermaphrodite or shemale characters and those who enjoy roleplay with them. The grounds are age-locked against minors for sexually explicit behavior. Founded by Tulip, it is now operated by Shadow. Most activity actually takes place in the clubhouse grounds, although there is a truth or dare room inside. Nearby is Lake Hermy, and adjacent to the Haven are the Hermaphrodite Estates, a set of strictly herm-only residences. The structure has been 'under construction' for the better part of a decade, functionally frozen.

Libertyville Nude Beach
Libertyville Nude Beach (t lnb) is another age-locked social hangout. Characters must be equipped with a nude description before entering.

Willing Victims Guild
The Willing Victims Guild (t wvg), age-locked, is designed to bring dominant and submissive characters together to arrange roleplay. Safeword rules and BDSM conventions apply.

The Emerald City Tavern
An adult rated area for casual discussion and socialization. Similar to the West Corner of the Park, but with no conversational age limit. Maintained by Sorien and Cuprohastes.

Palace of Dragons (gone)
The Palace of Dragons was a very popular Truth or Dare (T|D) area. It was a giant platform floating in the sky, and had four "pools" in which players could sit, and a programmed system by which players can play Truth or Dare with each other. The system kept track of the question being asked, dares given, and whether the questions had been answered or dares completed. For most of its existence until its closure in the late 1990s, the Palace of Dragons was one of the more consistently popular hangouts only second to West Corner of the Park.

Due to an apparent disagreement with the Wizards on its operation and age-locked status, the Palace of Dragons was eventually shut down and moved to Tapestries at some point in the late 1990s. Perhaps the greatest irony is that on Tapestries it hardly gets any use; by moving to a new MUCK, all the culture that had been built around it evaporated instantly; people were not willing to move to a whole other MUCK to continue enjoying T|D games.

There have been several replacements for the Palace of Dragons on FurryMUCK, but none of them have gained any traction; there no longer seems to be a well-known central location to play Truth or Dare on the MUCK.

Programming
FurryMUCK offers two types of programming:
*MPI, a Lisp inspired text-replacement language used by most regular players for simple scripts
*MUF, typically used for more complex operations and to implement system actions - apprentice access typically granted on request

Mayors of FurryMUCK
FurryMUCK has historically also had a Mayor, typically elected, although the mayoralty has been known to pass hands for as much as $1.37, and little as the wag of a tail. It was an official part of the process that new mayors were selected in a different way each time. The first mayor was selected by a relatively fair election, so all others thereafter were selected by varying other methods, all deliberately corrupt in some way. Bribery, nepotism, theocracy, and vote-buying were all used.

The joke is that despite the good–natured (and otherwise) hullabaloo over the selection process, the post is almost entirely symbolic. The only responsibility of the Mayor being to change the name of the currency. One day you may be strolling through the park and see "You found a reason to taunt a fox!" and the next you might see "You have 234 catnip mice." Toast explains:

:A good mayor changes the currency frequently, no less than every other day, RL permitting.

Past Mayors and how they lost their title include:

* Triggur (mid-1994 to February 1995) - position bought out in a shady deal with Tugrik
* AJWolf (February 1995 to January 1996) - sold for loose change at ConFurence 7
* Frang (January 1996 - October 1997?) - lost in a corrupt election where the votes could be bought
* Toast (October 1997 - August 1998) - delivered to a god by material sacrifice
* Inari (August 1998 - October 1999) - lost a contentious election
* Mwerevu - (October 1999 - July 2000) - voluntarily stepped down
* Rose de Stitches - (July 2000 - August 2000?) - dethroned after protests, the wizards got annoyed and declared the Mayoralty suspended

While players have asked for the Mayorship contest to return, so far the wizards have not re-approved the event.

Sam Starfall

2006-10-25T17:39:21Z

Modemac:

Sam Starfall is an alien character in the webcomic Freefall. He is the captain of the Savage Chicken and a freelance con artist. He has aspirations to become as infamous a thief as Bruno the Bandit, although he already has quite a reputation with a wide range of restaurants and other establishments.

Sam has exhibited a Tom Sawyer-like insistence on pulling off crimes the "proper way." During one attempt to escape through the roof of a museum he just robbed, his rope came untied; Sam's response was to leave through the door, climb up to the roof, retie the rope, return through the door, and then climb up the rope -- requiring him to pay the admission fee on the way back in. Sam also has a huge ego, which (among other things) makes him oblivious to the fact that his own ship's computer has it in for him.

Since the arrival of his ship's engineer, Florence Ambrose (which he is aware was a bureaucratic blunder), he has at times been foiled by Florence's unerring honesty, although he certainly appreciates her hard work in getting his ship in working order. After receiving the commission for his first honest job, he admitted he was tempted to "go straight". Still, he has also been trying to get Florence to "loosen up" for the entire time she has been working for him.

Sam's true physical form has never actually been seen, with the possible exception of fan art. He claims to be of a race of sapient squid-like beings (who appear to have at least six limbs) and wears a humanoid environmental suit complete with an animatronic face which he controls with his "cute little facial tentacles." By diet he is a scavenger, and he has said that his physical appearance has the tendency to cause people to give up their lunch, which, attractive an offer as it is, is still annoying.

9/11 Furry Status Page

2006-08-15T16:16:24Z

Modemac:

The WTC Furry Status Page was to be a "once in a lifetime" web page created in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, United States, on that fateful day of September 11, 2001 (9/11).

*Address: http://qrm.exodus.net/fur-status.html (down, archived)
*Founder: Phyxis
*Operational dates: September 11, 2001 - September 17, 2001

Within hours of the tragedy, queries for friends and loved ones living in the New York area started to circulate through out the whole of furry fandom (on Usenet, MUCKs, mailing lists and forums). To help this endeavor, Phyxis created this page for furries to quickly locate, inform or check the status of any fur in the area of the attack. The HTML tabled web page itself was broken down in several columns which were "Primary Character Name", "Aliases, etc...", "Last Update", "State, Country", "Needs Info?", "Current Status", "Additional Information" and "Last Update".

Although most of these were self-explanatory, some, such as "Needs Info?", were reserved for still missing furs (last one being FireFoxx) before everybody's status was confirmed; "Current Status" was to indicate if such fur was alright, missing, or deceased; "Additional Information" indicated last known location, or miscellaneous information; while, finally, "Last Update" was the last fur to confirm a particular furry's final status.

By September 17, 2001, everybody was accounted for. Of 96 New York area furries, 94 were to be found safe, while two perished during the Towers' collapse. Those furs were:

* Walter Senge (also known as DesertCat), and Elizabeth Martin Gregg (also known as Lisa Gregg) (In Memoriam).

Even though the page had fulfilled its function by September 17 of 2001, it remained online until December 8 of that same year.

Buzz

2006-08-15T11:12:28Z

Modemac:

Anita "Buzz" Brambles is an anthropomorphic bunny on FurryMUCK who is best known for two traits. When new furs meet her, they are inevitably attracted to her oversized bosom (a trait intentionally added by her creator, Angry Dave). However, Buzz is more well-known on Furry for her personality: she's a Southern Belle bunny (with a heavy accent) who is seen as sweet, amiable, and prone to giving big, soft, and bosomy hugs. Her nickname comes from the fact that she is depicted as having a short, military-style "buzz cut" hairdo.

Buzz has been a popular character with a number of furry artists. Angry Dave manages an archive of Buzz's pictures, both by himself and (many) gifts and contributions by furry artists.

* Sphinx's Lair? Or some other creature known for wisdom/puzzles/gregariousness... -- Siege 21:15, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)
:Hmm, that's definitely worth considering... Not that I have anything against sphinxes, but I'll try pondering about with some other creatures to see what the alternatives could be. --MKerris 08:03, 4 Jan 2006 (UTC)
::I searched a bit around on the net, but didn't find anything especially more suitable (we've got the dragons, of course - too bad the name 'Dragon's Lair' was done to death a long time ago :). The Sphinx hasn't been used in nearly as many occasions, from what I gather - it would perhaps give the page that unique (or at least rarely seen) touch, making it stand out a bit more. --MKerris 22:44, 4 Jan 2006 (UTC)

* How about the Help Den? It's obviously just a resemblance of the name Help Desk, only with a somewhat furry slant. ;) --MKerris 09:06, 4 Jan 2006 (UTC)

For those furs who use Wikifur, either just to browse or to contribute, I've created a #wikifur channel on Scream (formerly @shout) for furs to use. You can talk abou8t Wikifur, or provide bulletins when something happens (such a spam attacks, which seem to happen there very few days or so). --Modemac 20:13, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Lion

2006-01-29T15:21:37Z

Modemac:

The Lion (Panthera leo) is a mammal of the family Felidae. According to Pounced.org, they are the eighth most popular phenotype in the fandom. Many lions come from the "The Lion King" fandom before joining the furry fandom.

Biology
The male lion, easily recognized by his mane, may weigh up to 250 kg (550 lb). Females are much smaller, weighing up to 180 kg (400 lb). In the wild lions live for around 10-14 years, while in captivity they can live over 20. Lions are predatory carnivores who live in family groups, called prides, consisting of related females, their cubs of both sexes, and one or more unrelated males who mate with the adult females. The females do the hunting for the pride while the males are largely occupied with maintaining the borders of their territory. Males are expelled from the pride when they reach maturity. When or if a male coalition takes over a pride and ousts the previous coalition, the conquerors often kill any cubs that they did not father.

Lions are one of the most sexually active cats. During a female's oestrus cycle, a male and female will mate unabated for 5-7 days every 10 to 20 minutes. However, it takes 6-9 oestrus cycles for the female to become pregnant.

There are several subspecies of lion, most of which once existed or currently exist on the continent of Africa. The Asiatic Lion, or Panthera leo persica lives in present-day Gir Forest region of India. The remaining subspecies of lion, along with their scientific names and habitat, are the following...

* Panthera leo azandica - North East Congo lion.
* Panthera leo bleyenberghi - Katanga lion.
* Panthera leo hollisteri - Congo lion.
* Panthera leo krugeri - South African lion.
* Panthera leo leo - Barbary lion (Morocco to Egypt); Extinct in 1922.
* Panthera leo massaicus - Massai lion.
* Panthera leo melanochaita - Cape lion; Extinct in 1860.
* Panthera leo nubica - East African lion.
* Panthera leo persica - The Asiatic lion.
* Panthera leo roosevelti - Abyssinian lion.
* Panthera leo senegalensis - West African lion, or Senegal lion.
* Panthera leo somaliensis - Somali lion.
* Panthera leo verneyi - Kalahari lion.

Barbary lions were the largest of the lion sub-species, and were kept by Roman emperors - who ordered the capture of literally thousands of individuals to fight in the gladiator arenas.

Despite its popular moniker of "King of the Jungle", the lion is an animal of the open plains. As a result, it has been the target of extensive poaching, and is now a threatened species with significant populations being limited to national parks in Tanzania and South Africa, as well as the Gir Forest.

Y?

2006-01-29T15:21:05Z

Modemac:

Y? is a furry comic by artist Gordon McVey, about lesbians living in this day and age. The strip began on August 7th, 2004, and continues through the present. The author tries to update it every day, but gets in at least a strip a week.

About the comic
Unlike other furry comics about homosexuality, Y? presents it in a different way. While it contains sex (in an R-rated movie way) it doesn't contain sexually explicit content. The comic isn't about sex, it's about life. The characters are real life, down to earth, and could be seen in any comic outside of the furry realm. Their speech is written in a accented tone and is fluid. The art is also very stylised and is definitely a distinguishing feature of the strip.

Storyline
The comic centers around Sam, an unemployed, overweight twenty-something who, when she's first introduced, just finished her first act of sex with a lesbian, a woman named Adrian. They enjoy being together and begin a friendship, going out the next morning for food. Later, Sam blows her friends off to hang out with Adrian more. Since Adrian is going to the bar to meet with some old lesbian friends of her's, it help introduce some of the other characters featured in the comic: Terry, Emma, Jen, Lara, and Jacket. As the story progresses, the characters go through life and deal with the problems of the real world, but have each other for support.

Not recommended for a young audience, due to sexual and drug content, but is great for mature adults.

The Last Unicorn

2006-01-29T15:20:32Z

Modemac:

The Last Unicorn is an animated movie released in 1982 about a young unicorn who is searching for more of her kind, but is told by all that she is the last. It is based on a book written by Peter S. Beagle with the same title.

spoiler
Relation to the Furry Fandom
As with many animated movies aimed towards children, The Last Unicorn features speaking animals as a major part in the plot. Also, the Unicorn and Almathea are the same being, one being a unicorn and the other being a human, but they never exist at the same time so cannot exactly be considered anthro.

Voice Talent
* The Last Unicorn/Amalthea..............Mia Farrow
* Schmendrick..................................Alan Arkin
* King Haggard.................................Christopher Lee
* Molly Grue.....................................Tammy Grimes
* Lir.................................................Jeff Bridges
* Mommy Fortuna.............................Angela Lansbury

Trivia
* The riddle that Schmendrick used to distract Ruhk while freeing the Unicorn is the same unanswerable riddle that the Mad-Hatter gives Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The riddle is, "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
* The movie's soundtrack was a German best-selling album in 1983.
* The Last Unicorn was animated by Topcraft, the same company that helped anime director Hayao Miyazaki gain his fame.
* James Earl Jones, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame were all considered for voicing characters in this film.
* In Greek mythology, Amalthea is the name of the goat the nursed baby Zeus.
* A remake is planned for release in 2006 with some of the original actors reprising their roles.

West Corner of The Park (location)

2006-01-25T00:48:31Z

Modemac:

West Corner of The Park (WCOTP) is a location on FurryMUCK that is the dubbed Center of the Furryverse. The park is a PG-13 area, and includes a bulletin board and links to other areas of the park. This is a major location for many furs to congregate at, as it is the first place a user as a guest gets dropped to when they are released from their holding area. It is the place to chat, idle, and ask for general help all in one place. While role-playing used to occur frequently there, it has been less prevalent over the years as FurryMUCK's player base matures.

All newly-created characters on FurryMUCK, including guests, appear in the West Corner of the Park after they appear under the Bandstand. When a player's furry character appears in the Park, he or she can type the command around to move to the Character Setup area, which is located on the otherside of the Bandstand.

Due to its location, the Park Message Board is the most widely-read message board on FurryMUCK. Furs can read and post to the board from the West Corner of the Park; though if a fur wants to read the board and write in private, he can type the command board to step closer to the board and leave the same area as the other furs in the Park.

The longevity, popularity, and high number of furs spending time in the West Corner of the Park has given rise to a large number of role-playing TinyPlots. A number of these TinyPlots have involved the comings and goings of furry characters who make regular appearances in the Park.

Many furs in the Park have moved in the wrong direction and accidentally fallen into the Pond. (Some of the wizards have made sport of tossing unsuspecting furs into the Pond...or certain furs who they like having fun with). Although it was never actually added to the official description of the Park or the Pond, it was generally agreed among furries that the large number of furs tossed into the pond over the years caused it to become polluted and unhealthy. (As some furs occasionally commented, "would you want to swim in the same pond as Triggur and Lumpy?") In the year 2000, the wizards engaged in a massive "cleanup effort" to make the pond pure and healthy again. The slide to the pond was also added at this time.

(Some furs also point to an unofficial bare spot in the grass, noting the spot where Lumpy once sat and idled until he was toaded.)

Other parts of the park
* North Corner of The Park: includes FurryMUCK Tourist Information Board
* East Corner of The Park: includes Book of Condolence for the events in the US on 11th September 2001 and Gazebo (a gateway to alternate versions of the park)
* South Corner of The Park: contains Bulletin Board Annex (preferred by those who prefer reading undisturbed by conversation)
* In the Pond
* The Bandstand. It includes a plaque: "The Park, designed and built by Ashtoreth, 8/90."
* Under the Bandstand. This is the default home for new players on FurryMUCK. Players are encouraged to find a home elsewhere: "Anyone here for more than a month WILL be recycled." This policy is somewhat regularly enforced.

There is also a comic with the same name, by Jim Groat, a.k.a. Rabbi_Tom, based on happenings there.
