Furnal Equinox
Furnal Equinox 2011, the second annual Furnal Equinox, was held on March 11-13, 2011 at the Doubletree by Hilton Toronto Airport in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The theme of the convention was "Wild Magic".

Over 450 people attended the convention over the three days (a 36% increase from 2010), including 110 participants in the Fursuit Parade.

Furnal Equinox's charity auction raised a total of $4,000 for the Mississauga Humane Society. One of the successfully auctioned items included a commission from ZEN which sold for $450.

Guests of Honour
UK-based furry artist ZEN and local fursuit builder Firestorm Six were the Guests of Honour for the convention. It was ZEN's first appearance at a con in North America. As tradition for the Guests of Honour, both provided the artwork for the conbook covers, as well as the artwork on attendee badges.

ZEN also celebrated his birthday at the convention on Sunday.

Registration
Preregistration opened to attendees on 3 August 2010 and concluded on 2 March 2011. Memberships cost $30 to $40 Canadian depending on the time of registration. Sponsorships for an additional $30 included a T-shirt.

Dealers' tables opened up shortly after registration and were completely reserved as of November 2010, though they reopened after an expansion in late January.

Furnal Equinox expanded to three days of programming for 2011. The convention originally planned to remain in the Mississauga wing from the previous year, but in late January an expansion to the International wing was announced, almost tripling the available floor space and allowing space to be allocated to a Dealers Den in one room (the original plan was to split it among two rooms). Space was also set aside for a massive Zoo and an Artists Alley.

The Wolf's Den hospitality suite was introduced, offering soft drinks and snacks in an eleventh-floor suite for those registering as sponsors. The Wolf's Den was also used for receptions by fellow Canadian conventions Camp Feral! and What The Fur as well as a meet-and-greet for Ontario Furs.

Notable panels included:
*"So It's Your First Con?" by Potoroo and Feli, chairs of Feral! and What The Fur?
*"Animal Drawing", "Creating Comics" and "Backgrounds" by Kent Burles, professor at Max the Mutt Animation School in Toronto

*"Caring for Fursuits" by FirestormSix, Guest of Honour and fursuit builder
*"Aboriginal Culture", "Canadian Conservation", "Aboriginal Art" and "Cartooning and Character Design" by Bernice Gordon, artist

MimiBadger:

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my wikifur userpage! I'm an American badger living in Toronto, that squeaks, hands out cuppycakes and extra cuddly! At Feral the 13th, I poked people a whole lot and bonked some of them in the nogging with my ferret plushie.

My favorite furcons consist of Feral! and Furnal Equinox so far. I might go to What The Fur eventually. I might eventually get a fursuit. We need more American Badger fursuiters out there :P

If you wish to contact me, send me a note on furaffinity.

Dan Skunk

MimiBadger: Your compromise is acceptable to me. I removed the double copy-pasting.

Dan Skunk (born May 22, 1974) is a furry who lives in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Dan Skunk's hobbies include writing poetry.

Dan was a furry from a very young age. Since the age of three, he would daydream about being a skunk, and often felt different or wanted to be something else. He discovered furry fandom on Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at 10:21 PM, when he watched Animal Imitators on TLC and discovered there were others with similar feelings to himself.

Fandom involvement
Dan Skunk is active within the Toronto Furry group fact.

The original Toronto-furry website, which ran was 1998 to late 2005, was reopened by Dan on FurNation in May, 2006 and grew from 32 members to 400 before it was renamed to Ontario Furries in 2008. As of July 2010, it had over 1000 members, making it the most popular Canadian furry site.

Dan Skunk created the first chat room for Toronto furs, #torfur in 2005 as well, then #toronto-furry in 2006, and #OntarioFurries in 2008, all on FurNet.

Dan Skunk was a volunteer at Anthrocon and Midwest Furfest in 2007, becoming staff from 2008 to present.

Dan Skunk was co-founder and organizer of the Toronto Furry Spaghetti Factory Dinner from 2007 to 2008, Co-Founder of the Islington Furmeet in 2008.

Dan Skunk claims to have founded Furnal Equinox because he claims to have been doing research for a possible convention in Toronto, Ontario in the summer of 2008 and then in late 2008 creating a message board on Ontario Furries for members of the Ontario furry community to discuss the convention and making a post inviting people to to organize and staff it and that this project eventually became known as Furnal Equinox.

This claim is contested by members of Furnal Equinox's organizing committee.

MimiBadger: /* Fabulous Furry Brunch */ ^^

Toronto Furry, abbreviated to TorFur, is an association of furries living in the area around Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

It is one of the larger regional furry communities with over 400 estimated active members, and it is serviced by a number of loosely-affiliated services.

Resources
Mailing List
The Toronto Furry Mailing List (usually referred to as just TorFur) is the longest running resource for the Toronto Furry community. It was started by Silfur near the beginning of 1997. It is currently hosted on catsden.net and administrated by Potoroo and has nearly 250 subscribers.

The mailing list also has two sister lists for the announcement of events and debates (torfur-events and torfur-debates respectively).

Websites
The toronto-furry home page was started by Silfur around 1998fact. It was later maintained by Benjamin and hosted at furry.ca. It was re-opened by Dan Skunk in May 2006, hosted on furnation.

In November 2008 torfur became defunct as a website and remains dead to this day.

Chat
Several IRC channels linked to the Toronto Furry community exist on FurNet, the two primary of which are #torfur and #OntarioFurries. A brief narrative history of the main channels is as follows.

#torfur was registered by Dan Skunk on 1 April 2005 to compliment the torfur mailing list by adding the ability to share real time messages with other members of the Toronto furry community.

Dan Skunk ceded control of #torfur to darqchild, around November 2005, the channel then changed ownership to Scani in November 2009.

Torfur began to split up around July 2006 over personal disputes between moderators.

toronto_furry was registered by bobby near the end of September 2006 to provide an unmoderated alternative to #torfur.

toronto-furry was registered by Dan Skunk on 2 October 2006 to provide an alternative that was both more moderated than #toronto_furry but less moderated than #torfur.

nsftorfur was registered on 22 October 2006 to provide a place for users of #torfur to discuss mature topics.

toronto_furry and #toronto-furry later merged due to lack of activity on #toronto_furry.

Dan Skunk ceded control of #toronto-furry to Scani on April 2008 to deal with some personal issues.

Scani relinquished his roles in the fandom in order to pursue personal goals, and passed control of #toronto-furry to Drake in early August 2008. He also left his position of administrator in #torfur, which darqchild passed on to Aaeden Aranor.

Dan Skunk registered #OntarioFurries on September 11th, 2008.

Fabulous Furry Brunch
Come join some local furs every Saturday at noon for breakfast. The furry brunch used to be at the Fabulous Cafe, but we now gather at O'Grady's (518 Church St) for a bite, to eat and to meet new people. Everyone is welcome.
