KATMANDU is a comic book published by Shanda Fantasy Arts about cats that would be considered wild (like lions) and domesticated (like our housecats) alongside mice, and rats in a setting where they interact. They can interact with others, but usually prefer to interact within species. The smaller cats live in teepees and have bisexual polyamorous relationships based on Native American history, stories and legends. They ride bipedal reptiles as mounts in place of horses, etc. There are no ungulates upon the world of Katmandu, and reptiles/lizards have diversified to fill many of their ecological niches.

Created and written by Carole Curtis since 1993, KATMANDU features two storylines. The first is of Leahtrah & Thorin and is set in their time period, approximating our 1940's-1950's, and set within a continental area like that of the Arabian Desert. The second follows stories that Leahtrah tells her husband and children of her ancestress, Liska, and is set in what would be the American Early Colonial Period. Liska's world is based upon Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne, and other Native American tribes and their legends.

Several artists have illustrated the stories, including Terrie Smith, Shawntae Howard, Michele Light, Dr. Comet, Lisa Jennings, Ursula Husted, Megan Giles, Beth Schultz and others.

The mature series is rated for readers aged fourteen and up. At last count it was up to issue #34. The series has also spawned six issues of the "Katmandu Annual" and a private press mini-series of Katmandu adult stories.
Furry Ninja High School is a parody of Ninja High School for mature readers that is published by Shanda Fantasy Arts. Rather than the normal mostly-human cast, all the characters are represented by their furry equivalants. For example, Jeremy Feeple is protrayed as a squirrel, Asrial is still a Salusian but definitely more skunk-like, and so on.

The plot follows the early issues of NHS with a furry twist and less conservative tones. So much is the bar lowered that the two primary female characters both overtly attempt to win Jeremy's heart by being nude in front of him, though in one case it was an accident that resulted in Jeremy being told to help the poor girl wash out the Skunk spray that Asrial had inadvertantly hit her with while using her non-anthro form. Shortly thereafter, Asrial attempts to even the score by being fully naked right in Jeremy's face.

The differences Asrial has between versions is that in the Furry version, she can change at will from anthro to s non-anthro skunk. The effect of this is that most of the characters are not aware of who she really is in that state and it helps her sneak around better, although the unfortunate side effect is that some characters would get on her nerves and interfere directly in her affairs, such as when two teenage boys found her wandering the house and picked her up by the tail wondering if she was a boy or girl... the obvious result being an odourous end for the two boys.

In addition, the character of Count Bosco from the original series is here a vampire who exists on chocolate syrup. Sammy Kondo, (in the original series a girl posing as a boy) is here a lioness who is under a witch's curse to appear as a boy until she kisses her true love, Jeremy. Major additions to the NHS canon are a rival to Professor Steamhead based on Washu from Tenchi Muyo, and a possum best friend for Jeremy named Winston.

The first two issue arc concerned Asrial being sent to Quagmire as a Salusian spy to feret out information on Ziggy Stardust. The second arc was a spoof of Thunderbirds, and the third story "Twilight" concerned itself with Sammy breaking her curse and an invasion by the idiotic Gomerians.

In the new issue in June, Asrial displays some more alien differences, while Jeremy inherits a supersuit, in a spoof of Smallville.
Shanda The Panda is an furry comic book created by Mike Curtis.

Much like its predecessor, Omaha the Cat Dancer, the series is set in a world largely like the real world except for the fact that the inhabitants are humanoid versions of various animals, birds, reptile and insect species with some traits of their more primitive relatives. It is the longest running anthropomorphic slice of life comic book series.

The title character is Shanda Bruin, a panda who is the manager of a movie theater in a small city named Cedar Rabbits. The series involves in part the personal and professional lives of Shanda, her family and friends as well as her staff.

An important story arc is her romantic relationships with a cajun raccoon nicknamed Double R and her lesbian cricket bartender lover, Terri. Another storyline are their clashes with the villainous Wing and the emotionally abusive and bigoted ex spouse of Double R, Trixie. The comic boasts a cast of almost 50 characters of ages from infants to senior citizens. In addition several cast members and storylines are based on real people and events in Mike's theater career, such as an armed robbery and a riot.

The comic was originally published by Mu Press, then began a regular series with Antarctic Press, then moved to Vision Press before becoming the flagship title of Shanda Fantasy Arts in 1999 at issue #22. At last count it was up to issue #45, with ten annuals and nine adult digests. It has also spawned an adult comic, Shanda's Bedtime Tails.

Several artists have drawn the adventures of Shanda, in short stories and backup features. The main story of each issue is usually drawn by alternating illustrators, including original artist Mike Sagara, Michele Light, Carla Speed McNeil, and Heather Maranda, among others. Since the beginning, the covers have set a trend of being parodies of popular feature films. In fact, author Mike Curtis says that is the hardest part of each issue, finding a movie poster that relates to the story.

Oddly enough, it came into being to produce non-furry comics.

Mike had worked for Harvey Comics on RICHIE RICH, and the Harvey family started a new imprint called LORNE HARVEY to reprint eht tieles they had not sold off, like SAD SACK and THE BLACK CAT. Thye wanted to move into new material with SPY SPOOK and LADY WISH.
No longer having creative talents, they turned to Mike to produce the material.

Terrie Smith was slated to do art on LADY WISH, a comic about a fairy who granted wishes and was assisted by the THREE WISHES. SPY SPOOK was to have art by MIKE SAGARA and MICHELE LIGHT and was about a deceased detective.
In KATMANDU Carole is running two storylines. The first is of Leahtrah & Thorin and is set in their time period, approximating our 1940'S-1950's Arabian Desert area. The second storyline has stories that Leahtrah tells her husband and children of her ancestress, Liska, and is set in what would be approximately the American Early Colonial Period. Liska's time and setting are based upon Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne, and other Native American tribes and legends.

KATMANDU is the story of cats, both what we consider wild - like lions - and domesticated - like our housecats, mice, and rats in a setting where they can and do interact. Uusually, interactions are within species. The cats live in teepees and have bisexual polyamorous relationships - based on Native American history, stories and legends. They ride bipedal reptiles as mounts, since there are no horses, etc.

It is created and written by Carole Curtis - who has allowed some people to write stories for publication using her copyrighted materials, and printed by Shanda Fantasy Arts. Several artists have illustrated the stories, including Terrie Smith, Shawntae Howard, Michele Light, Dr. Comet, Lisa Jennings, Ursula Husted, Megan Giles, Beth Schultz and others.

The mainstay of the series is rated Mature for people fourteen years old and up. At last count it was up to issue #32. The series also spawned the "Katmandu Annual" and an X-Rated private press mini-series of Katmandu adult stories.
