Since its creation in 2002, Yiffy.net has undergone several incarnations and feature adds. The latest incarnation (forced into existance on November 2nd due to some security errors with the phpBB) is off-the-shelf Simple Machines Forum software.

Recently, [[Sniper Fox]] stepped down as site administrator, appointing Micah Coon and [[Taryn]] in his place. There is much speculation as to why, but nobody has come up with a concrete reason why.

Shortly after, it was discovered that the Flash-based, multi-room chat system was causing heavy strain on the server, which was resulting in constant system errors and slowdowns. It was removed at the request of the server owner.

As stated above, a week before November 2nd, Yiffy.net was "hacked", forcing the sever administrator which it exists on to shut down all phpBB forums. It would shut down completely, only to reappear under the Simple Machines Forum software. Reaction to this was mixed, seeing as most members felt that this "new" system was too generic and didn't have the same uniquity as the old software.

Currently, the administrators are scrambling to find something that will come close to, if not meet, phpBB's abilities. As Micah Coon put it: "
...good luck, guys. We're ALL gonna need it."

== Users ==
Yiffy.net is currently home to over 4,500 furs (including alternate accounts) with 500 to 600 users logging on during an average day. While Yiffy.net is growing every day, the site generally has a ratio of around 3.5 times as many male furs as female furs. Yiffy.net users are tracked by join date, with a star awarded under their avatar images for each year they've been a member.

Yiffy.net strictly enforces a policy of not allowing underage users to visit the site. Any time a user is suspected of being under their legal age to view adult material in their locality, they are immediately suspended until providing proof of age. This is a very unpopular practice, but this hard line stance on preventing children from accessing the site is what seperates Yiffy.net from several newer mature forum sites.

As with all things, Yiffy.net has it's fair share of controversy. The primary source of it, however, is the site's extremely hard-lined stance on Netspeak. One of the administrators, Micah Coon, had had this to say about it:

''"Netspeak is something that is flat out unacceptable on the site. It's a childish thing, used by 12 year old AOLers. If this were a game like World of Warcraft, where typing out everything would result in character death, then I can understand it. Here on Yiffy, you don't have to worry about that. There is no rush; there is no reason to use it."''

As of recent times, however, things have changed. Further review, including the addition of a former moderator that offered to return to help with the site, the netspeak rules were laxed. Micah is still on the record as openly against netspeak, but he has relented in changing the policy.

The current policy (which is still under review) is as such:
* Things such as abbreviating small words (i.e. "you" becomes "u", "your" and "you're" become "ur", "to" and "too" become "2", etc) are still outright banned. Users, however, will be warned once before facing suspension.
* Things such as "LOL", "BRB", and "WB" are now allowed in moderation. Casual use will not result in any disciplinary action. Flagrant abuse of it (i.e. Using "LOL" twice every sentence), will.

Yiffy.net also has come under fire for lack of enforcement of its underage policy. As good as it looks on paper, it is known that several underage users have repeatedly reregistered forum accounts to circumvent any initial bans applied.

Micah has claimed to have gotten in contact with a company that provides age checks for websites, but they have yet to return contact with him.

The site's current netspeak policy is very simple: it's not allowed. Using netspeak is punishable by a 1 day suspension for the first offense, with penalities doubling for each subsequent offense (meaning the second offense would be two days, the third would be four days, and so forth).
