== Mission and content ==

WikiFur's stated mission is to "record information of use to the furry community", in an attempt to distribute it to others. This mission has been widely interpreted, and WikiFur contains articles on art, literature and other forms of culture both created by and of interest to members of the furry fandom, as well as the people and characters within it, their history and interests, the worlds they inhabit, and much more besides. It can also offer a good introduction to the fandom, although [[Wikipedia:Furry fandom|Wikipedia's article]] is considered by WikiFur's founder to remain the best single page on the topic.

Motives for contributors vary. There are those who simply enjoy collecting and organizing information on anthropomorphic topics. Many are fans of particular topics and wish to help write "the definitive article" on it. Some see WikiFur as a means of "getting the truth out" about contentious subjects like the [[Babyfur]] community, while others value it as a source of information which, while not completely without bias, is at least subject to an element of peer review and modification.

== Audience and impact ==

WikiFur did not spring up overnight, but it only took three weeks for it to be featured on [[Something Awful]]. It was selected by [[Wikia:Wikia|Wikia]] as Featured Wikicity in December 2005.<ref name="Wikia feature">[http://wikia.com/wiki/Featured_Wikicity#WikiFur Wikia features WikiFur as Featured Wikicity], December 2006</ref>. As of September 2006, WikiFur receives 2000 to 2500 visitors and 15,000 to 20,000 pageviews per day ([[Wikipedia:Google Analytics|Google Analytics]] figures). Around 4000 edits are made per month, with around 75 contributors making five or more edits, and eight or nine contributors making 100 or more edits (Wikia figures). Roughly ten articles are created a day, excluding articles that are later deleted.

WikiFur's actual impact is harder to judge. Certainly, it has been referenced by others, both within and without the fandom, including ''[[Animal Passions]]'', an article on [[Anthrocon 2006]] published in the [[Wikipedia:Pittsburgh City Paper|Pittsburgh City Paper]]. As of September 2006, roughly one article in three on WikiFur is about a person. Contributors are encouraged to make articles about themselves and other members of the furry fandom, as well as those who do not consider themselves members but who are related in some way. This sometimes leads to problems, especially when it turns out that the people concerned do not want information about them at WikiFur, and has led to the development of a [[WikiFur:Personal information|personal information policy]] that is under continued review.

One of WikiFur's objectives is to do no harm to past or present members of the fandom. Some contributors and non-contributors feel strongly that people have a "moral right to privacy", and this has compelled removal of factually correct information from articles in some cases. At the same time, there are those who consider it to have a moral duty duty to ''other'' members of the fandom to preserve history, especially when they believe there is an unstated reason to remove it. Balancing the two views is not always easy, and has led to heated discussion and criticism of WikiFur from both sides - the former calling it a "stalker's heaven" while the latter accusing it of compromising its mission or "playing favorites" (as there are no absolute rules about what information may be removed).

Several people have proposed a '''legal''' right to privacy, but so far have failed to come up with any relevant laws when challenged to do so. The use of legal threats has not helped the case of those requesting a removal.

Exclusion of a person from WikiFur (as authorized by the consensus of the community) is typically implemented through locking the page about them with a [[:Template:Protected-Excluded|short message]]. It is also possible to for administrators to implement a limited editing system, such that only administrators and the person concerned may edit an article.

=== Bias ===

There is an ever-present danger of bias on WikiFur. The most notable bias is due to the fact that most editors (and all of the most dedicated members) are members of the furry fandom, and the majority are likely to have a positive opinion of it. This can lead to accusations that articles are biased towards the furry fandom's position - and sometimes these accusations are accurate.

There is also little to stop people adding overly-positive information about things they like, or overly-negative (sometimes even downright malicious) information about things they do not like. Such information may or may not be removed by others when it is added; either way, it can cause controversy. Arguments are typically solved by removal of unsourced information, the provision of references, or (in the case of opinion) specific attribution of statements. Sometimes it is suggested that the relative proportions of content that is present in an article may itself put the topic in a [[Wikipedia:False light|false light]] - the usual answer to this is to suggest that the person complaining about it fix it by adding other relevant information.

Some people believe WikiFur can never be a reliable source of information. Like many furry forums and sites which allow comments, WikiFur has its share of vandals. However, since it is a simple matter to return to a previous state, most vandalism is reverted within minutes. The founding concept of CYD was the exercise of freedom of speech among like-minded individuals who shared a sense of exasperation at the fandom's more bizarre aspects.

Favourite front-page topics at CYD include the political antics of the webmasters of popular furry sites, [[furry fiction|stories]] and [[fanfiction]], online drama and overreaction, [[furry spirituality]] and [[fursuit]]s.

CYD also provides an extensive collection of documents valuable to those researching early fandom history. Some of these aren't available elsewhere. Also included is an [http://crushyiffdestroy.com/links.php extensive collection of links to other Furry web sites], the majority of which are actually favorable to the fandom.

==Forums==

The CYD forums are often considered the heart of CYD by those trying to characterize it. This has caused trouble in the the past, as evidence for almost any agenda can be found by selectively filtering posts. The forum members are an eclectic mix of active furries, vehement anti-furries, and nonfurs. While some users are hostile to outside furs, a number of furry artists and [[furry fan|fans]] have won acceptance there and are active members. To give the player a chance to employ this equipment, the developers provided an entire galaxy with several hundred planets to explore.

The gameplay itself is primarily centered around exploration and information gathering. This is mainly done through character interaction, and asking questions. The amount of text written for this game is simply astonishing, as every trade good and race is fitted with a description, which varies depending on the race, whose member is asked about the item. However, the cumbersome talking interface makes it difficult to ask many questions in a short time. Combat, while an essential part of the game is simple, and relies heavily on reflexes, which may discourage gamers with less gaming experience. The economic element however is stressed heavily, but requires experience to understand and operate, especially because the trade system is based on barter, not any currency system.

==Plot==

The game's plot is centered around finding a way to defeat the Korok and save the universe. The game can be roughly divided into acts, basing off the player's rank in the Alliance, which in turn is affected by the result of missions the player undertakes.

Apart from the main plot, there are also many sub-plots, such as finding and reactivating EX Korok robots, pieceing together the origin of the [[species]] or each specie's history.

==Races==

The eight races featured in Project Nomad each possess an intricate story, different set of trading goods, ship classes and vocabulary:

* Altec Hocker
:These energy beings are members of a race that has passed the stage of mortal existence, and have moved to a higher plane of existence, assimilating and storing knowledge. Their numbers are limited, but they are essentialy a limitless source of information.
* [[Arden]]
:A race of anthropomorphic [[llama]]s, the Arden are the founders of the Alliance and masters of trade. Their homeworld is Ardania, and they worship the Less Ten. The Arden are ruled by a council.
* [[Bellicosians]]
:These nomadic space raiders appear as anthropomorphic [[shark]]s. they are a violent and aggresive race, living off raids and piracy. Their homeworld was destroyed and converted into a mining planet by the Korok.
* [[Chanticleer]]
:A race of humanoid beings, looking similiar to angels. They are inherently peaceful and calm, always behaving with good manners. The Chanticleer specialize in crystal technology, which make up their ships, systems, medicine, weapons and even electronics. They operate from Second Harmony, a crystal-based space station orbiting a black hole.

:The Musin look similiar to [[chipmunk]]s and are masters of subterfuge and infiltration, operating deep within enemy territory, which includes also maintaining a colony on one of the planets. Their homeworld is Newhome 3.

:These beings, with large noses, are known collectors of junk and hoarders of technology. They are of extremely ill-health and very hypochondric. Most races consider them a nuisance rather than an asset, however, they do play an important role in one of the subplots.

:A proud, beautiful and extremely arrogant race of felines. They are a matriarchal species, in which [[female]]s play the dominant role, running the empire, staffing it's navy, fighting etc., while males are reduced to sexual toys and procreation tools. Their empress is the Grand Phelan M'Nefer. Phelonese Navy fields the most powerful ships in the entire game, apart from Korok battleships and possesses the mightiest weapon - Quietus missiles, which take down almost every ship down in one hit, a true "Fire-And-Forget" weapon.

To give the player a chance to employ this equipment, the developers provided an entire galaxy with several hundred planets to explore.

The gameplay itself is primarily centered around exploration and information gathering. This is mainly done through character interaction, and asking questions. The amount of text written for this game is simply astonishing, as every trade good and race is fitted with a description, which varies depending on the race, whose member is asked about the item. However, the cumbersome talking interface makes it difficult to ask many questions in a short time. Combat, while an essential part of the game is simple, and relies heavily on reflexes, which may discourage gamers with less gaming experience. The economic element however is stressed heavily, but requires experience to understand and operate, especially because the trade system is based on barter, not any currency system.

==Plot==

The game's plot is centered around finding a way to defeat the Korok and save the universe. The game can be roughly divided into acts, basing off the player's rank in the Alliance, which in turn is affected by the result of missions the player undertakes.

Apart from the main plot, there are also many sub-plots, such as finding and reactivating EX Korok robots, pieceing together the origin of the [[species]] or each specie's history.

==Races==

The eight races featured in Project Nomad each possess an intricate story with different set of trading goods, ship classes and vocabulary:

* Altec Hocker
:These energy beings are members of a race that has passed the stage of mortal existence, and have moved to a higher plane of existence, assimilating and storing knowledge. Their numbers are limited, but they are essentialy a limitless source of information.

:A race of anthropomorphic [[llama]]s, the Arden are the founders of the Alliance and masters of trade. Their homeworld is Ardania, and they worship the Less Ten. The Arden are ruled by a council.
* [[Bellicosians]]
:These nomadic space raiders appear as anthropomorphic [[shark]]s. they are a violent and aggresive race, living off raids and piracy. Their homeworld was destroyed and converted into a mining planet by the Korok.
* [[Chanticleer]]
:A race of humanoid beings, looking similiar to angels. They are inherently peaceful and calm, always behaving with good manners. The Chanticleer specialize in crystal technology, which make up their ships, systems, medicine, weapons and even electronics. They operate from Second Harmony, a crystal-based space station orbiting a black hole.

:The Musin look similiar to [[chipmunk]]s and are masters of subterfuge and infiltration, operating deep within enemy territory, which includes also maintaining a colony on one of the planets. Their homeworld is Newhome 3.
* [[Pahrump]]
:These beings, with large noses, are known collectors of junk and hoarders of technology. They are of extremely ill-health and very hypochondric. Most races consider them a nuisance rather than an asset, however, they do play an important role in one of the subplots.

:A proud, beautiful and extremely arrogant race of felines. They are a matriarchal species, in which [[female]]s play the dominant role, running the empire, staffing it's navy, fighting etc., while males are reduced to sexual toys and procreation tools. Their empress is the Grand Phelan M'Nefer. Phelonese Navy fields the most powerful ships in the entire game, apart from Korok battleships and possesses the mightiest weapon - Quietus missiles, which take down almost every ship down in one hit, a true "Fire-And-Forget" weapon.

:An enigmatic race of [[snake]]s. Their language is incomprehensible to outsiders, and they trade mostly in minerals, such as gold, silver or platinum.

'''Nephilim''', nephil for short, are a race of feline humanoids in the game series [[Exile]] and its remake [[Avernum]]. Most of their population lives in the underworld after being sent there by the Empire. Some still manage to survive on the surface, though they are constantly hunted down by Empire who wishes to exterminate all non-humans. As a result, most nephilim both in Exile/Avernum and on the surface are hostile towards humans, though some do get along and even live among humans. Nephilim are one of the three playable races in series, the other two being humans and [[slithzerikai]] and also serve as an enemy for the player's party to fight.

==General Information==

While the games never explain in-depth about nephilim societies, much can be gleened from the in-game descriptions and comments by the many NPCs. Once common on the surface, now mostly extinct due to the Empire's genocide. Most of the survivors live in the underword known as Exile or, in the remakes, Avernum. Nephilim live together in clans, which usually consists of a single village led either by a chieftain or shaman. They are generally wary of outsiders and prefer to avoid contact, mostly due to the Empire's oppression.

Some nephilim are barbaric in nature, attacking all humans without provocation. They are known to worship dark beings and possibly demons, though none are ever mentioned in particular. They are also known to cruely torture and execute prisoners and slaves. Goblins tend to be the most commonly kept slave, though, while not seen in-game, humans are also known to be enslaved as well. Most nephilim, at least those seen in-game, tend to be evil in nature, though as the series progressess they seem to decline in number.

The other nephilim more or less get along with humans, some even living among them. In a few instances within the games they can be seen running a shop in some of the towns or offering the players a quest. While the player's part does encounter several friendly villages, all of these are only world map events and are not treated like normal towns, leaving the nephils without the equivalent to the slith's town of Gnass.

Nephilim are extremely agile and dexterous, quicker than any other race in the game. They often have archers with them and their warriors often carry javelins. Even with their advantage, they are also capable of being as strong as any other race in the game, though there are far fewer who are mentioned to be like this. It can also be assumed that nephilim are slightly smaller than most other races, as their graphics and sprites tend to potray them a bit shorter and thinner than others.

===Nepharim===

Sometimes a newborn nephillim is born bigger, meaner, and sterile. These are known as nepharim and nobody knows why this happens, but it does. Nepharim retain all the advantages of their nephilim cousins to go along with their increased strength and toughness, though they are far fewer in number and much more reclusive, often seperating themselves even from their smaller cousins.

Nephilim and Nepharim generally do not get along. While on occasion a nephar may be leading a nephilim clan, more often they seem to fight amongst each other. This is most evident in Exile/Avernum 2 where a tribe of Nepharim has enslaved an entire nephilim clan. Also, a nephilim NPC in Avernum two mentions that he loves all of his children, even the nepharim, which seems to suggest that nephilim parents generally cast out nepharim children.

==In The Games==

In Exile 2, 3, Blades and in Avernum 2, 3, Blades, and 4, the player can add nephilim to his party. In the Exile series, nephils get a dexterity bonus but a 10% exp penalty. In the Avernum series nephilim get bonuses to bow and throwing skills, sometimes get additional move points, may get their turn sooner in combat, and are harder to hit. They also get a 10% exp penalty. Having a nephilim in the player's party will cause several NPCs to react differently, usually by comments they may make, though some may dislike them and refuse to help the player while others may help because you have a nephil.

===Exile/Avernum===

The nephilim are primarily an early game foe, as relations between them and humans have not yet smoothed out. It is noted that they are sent down to the underworld by a different portal, though where it is remains unknown. Almost all of the nephilim encountered in the game are hostile and will attack the player's party on sight. The barbaric nephilim are highly organized and only their desire is to slay all humans and take over the caves, though they are not a numerous as the barbaric slithzerikai who have the same goals.

*One of the first quests in the game, which is optional, is to slay the chieftain of a new nephilim fort being constructed by goblin slaves.

*The first main quest sends the player to the nephilim's main fortress to retrieve an amulet stolen from the mayor of Formello.

*One of the later early game quests has the player rescue a group of prisoners from a nepharim fortress.

*During a mid-game optional quest to slay an ogre mage, the player has the option to free a group of nephilim from prison. While they are hostile, they have only have the energy to hiss at the player and walk by is released.

*In a late game optional dungeon, the player's party becomes trapped inside the giant's fortress. Two fellow prisoners, a human and a nepharim, advises the party on how to get everyone free.

===Exile/Avernum 2===

Due to the Empire invading the underworld, most humans, or more specifically, the exiles/avernites and nephils generally get along and work together to fight a common foe. There are many more nephilim for the player to interact with and may even include them in their party. Some nephilim also run several of the shops in the game as well. However, not all are friendly. A number refuse to have peace and continue to harass humans while others have taken up careers as brigands.

*Fort Ganrick, the game's starting location, comes under attack from hostile nephilim very early on, though this battle could be avoid entirely if the party used a different entrance/exit other than the main gate.

*The first quest in the game, which is optional, is to slay the nepharim chieftain of a group of barbaric nephilim who took over the mines.

*One of the optional late chapter 1 quests has the player sent to destroy an altar used by crazed nephils to make undead. The altar is located in the ruins of the fortress the player was sent to recover the amulet for the mayor of Formello in the first game.

*An early, optional chapter 4 quests has the player slave the chieftain of a nepharim clan and rescue to the enslaved nephilim in order to secure help from the local clans.

*Another optional quest in early chapter 4 the player can cure a mysterious disease afflicting a clan of nephilim near Mertis by giving them graymold salve. Doing so will result in the other clans near Mertis eager to help the player by offering to sell potions, magical charms, or train them in the bow skill.

===Exile/Avernum 3===

The only game in the series to take place on the surface, excluding Blades, since users could make surface scenarios. Nephilim are rare on the surface due to the Empire's genocide. Having a nephilim in the party results in many more combat encounters with local militia, discriminating guards, prejudice townsfolk, etc, especially in the Avernum remake. A number of NPCs may also withhold help. On the other hand, a nephilim will enable the player to avoid combat with other nephilim and somtimes even recieve aid from the few tribes there are. Though, despite all the hatred, some manage to live in the more tolerant surface cities running shops.

*In Upper Exile/Avernum, some hostile nephilim bandits roam around, but have no base.

*The goblin tribe in an early optional dungeon is apperantly led by a nephil, as one is present in cave that the game describes as cleaner and more luxarious, though it does not come right out and say the nephil is leading them.

*In an outdoor encounter in Southern Valorim, the player has the option to save a group of nephilim from a group of ogres.

*On the Island of Bigail, the player can help a nephil recover a charm important to the feline's honor.

*In Central Valorim, the player can help defend a nephil settlement from trogoldytes.

*In North Eastern Valorim, a there is a lone nephil who will train the party in the bow skill.

===Avernum 4===

There are far fewer hostile nephilim in the underworld. Those that remain are primarily bandits, though there is one barbarian clan the player has to deal with. There are many more nephilim NPCs around as well, now commonly seen in merchant caravans, with travelers, adventurers and other small groups. And, like always, some still run a few shops.

*One of the few remaining barbarian clans, the Longtails, took over a checkpost and blocks access to Fort Draco. The player has to fight through them in order to advance. Slaying their chief is also an optional quest.

*During the first main quest, there are a number of mind-controlled nephilim who will attack the player. Slaying their master, however, will set them free, causing them to no longer be hostile.

*A mid-game optional quest sends the player to find a nepharim bandit fortress in the Honeycomb. Another optional quest given by a nephilim named Arrwm has the player kill Hosharr, its leader.

*Later in the game, an optional quest has the player hunt down a half-breed nephilim bandit. Though exactly what the other half is the game doesn't say, though based on the physical description given, it may be human.

Furcadia is free to all users. To join Furcadia, the [http://www.furcadia.com/download/ Windows client] can be downloaded and installed. This client connects to the furcadia server, allows for character creation, and provides a graphical environment where a [[furre]] (Furcadia character) can explore [[Dream (Furcadia)|dreams]] (player-made areas) and interact with others.

Joining Furcadia involves creating a character by selecting a name, entering a contact e-mail address to activate an account, selecting a [[species]], choosing colours, and writing a personal description that is visible to other furres.

The following species can be selected during the character creation process: [[Rodent]], [[Equine]], [[Feline]], [[Canine]], [[Musteline]], [[Lapine]] and [[Squirrel (species)|Squirrel]]. It is also common to use one of these base species to create another; for example, choosing the colouring on a squirrel to make it look like a skunk. The next update of Furcadia will introduce [[Minotaur|Minotaurs]], an avatar originally called [[Cattle|Bovines]].

In addition to the basic species, furres can purchase various add-ons for their character using real-world money. These add-ons are known as Digos. These include four types of wings (Classic Wings, Tri-colour Wings, Butterfly Wings and Bat Wings), various alternate species ([[Dragon]], [[Phoenix]] and [[Gryphon]]), and flight and fire-breathing effects. All purchases help support the operation and improvements of Furcadia.

Real money is not required to join or use the service, only to add these character features. This business model has been criticised by some for breaking down the isolation between character and player, as those with real money available can use it to improve their in-game status.

== Furcadia Client ==

The Furcadia Client is organized into four main areas:
* The upper left section displays the portrait and name of a furre when they are clicked on.

The Furcadia Client runs on Windows 95 through XP. An officially supported PowerPC Macintosh client has often been requested, but is considered a lower priority development. GNU/Linux users should find that The Furcadia Client installs and runs perfectly under [http://www.winehq.org wine] versions greater than 0.9.17.

The comic was created by Mat Sherer, and stars a couple of [[anthropomorphic]] cats named Lucy and Lydia, who share an apartment in the fictional country of New Talia, a small island nation off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. An adult-themed comic, sex plays a major role in many strips, whether it is actually occuring, implied, or the subject of a joke. There is nudity in the comic, but due to the simplistic art it is not very graphic. Recently, the comic has focused less on sex, but it is still an important part of the comic.

The comic has had various release schedules in its run, but is currently updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Keenspace permitting.

===Lucy===

A black cat with white hair, Lucy is the main character of the strip, with many of the stories dealing with her sexual romps and relationships. She is bisexual, but is mostly lesbian. So far she has been in relationships with her one-time boss [[Zig Zag]]; an incestuous relationship with her brother, Fisk; and is currently dating a co-worker, Jezzebel. She has routinely tried to get her roommate Lydia to have sex with her, but she refuses; Lucy has since stopped trying due to Lydia's relationship with Dirk, and her own with Jezzebel.

She has lived in New Talia for the last few years after moving from Atlanta, Georgia; and currently works as an editor for Sonica, a music magazine. She originally worked there as their harshest, most vicious music critic; Lucy also composed music for some of Zig Zag's movies, wrote songs and produced an album for a band, and even appeared as a professional wrestler's on-air girlfriend.

===Lydia===

A white cat with black hair, and Lucy's childhood friend, she works at the ''White Cat'' tattoo, fur dying and body piercing parlor. Lydia is originally from Atlanta, and followed Lucy to New Talia where they share an apartment. Lydia is totally straight—although she once thought she might have been bisexual—and resists Lucy's come-ons. It's at work that she met her boyfriend, Dirk who was in getting a body piercing. On October 18, 2004, Dirk asked her to marry him, and on August 31, 2005, they were married.

===Dirk===

Dirk is a male cat who came into Lydia's parlor for some body piercing, specifically his scrotum; when Lydia saw his "equipment", she was immediately enamoured by him. He currently runs his own music store. During the ''New Talian Idol'' incident, Lydia and Dirk got in a fight when Lucy tried to use him to get some of her co-workers off her back, but things got a little too comfy, and Lydia got a little too jealous. After a while, they got back together. They married on August 31, 2005. Jay Naylor came up with the name ''Dirk Savagewood'', because it sounded like a good name for a porn actor.

===Fisk===

Fisk is Lucy's twin brother, and they have been in an incestuous relationship since before they came to New Talia. At first Fisk worked as a security guard for Zig Zag, but after a while, moved back to the U.S. and joined the army, following in his father's footsteps. Sadly, Fisk also followed his father's footsteps right into his grave; his father died in the Vietnam War, and Fisk was killed in Iraq.

Fisk was created by Jay Naylor, and was friends with Mat for a time; so Fisk was included in BDK, while Lucy appears in Jay's comic, ''[[Better Days]]''. The two had a falling out, which would explain Fisk's lack of presence in the comic, and his death. Lucy still appears in ''Better Days''.

===Jezzebel===

A bat with one eye; she is Fisk's former girlfriend, and now Lucy's girlfriend. Lucy first meets Jezzebel when they are buying birthday presents for Fisk; at said party, they are formally introduced. When Fisk gets drunk, Lucy offers Jezzebel a ride home, one thing led to another, and Lucy woke up in Jezzebel's bed. Shortly after Lucy returned to Sonica, Jezzebel and Lucy started dating. She works in Sonica's mail room.

===Zig Zag===

A skunk with a distinctive tiger-stripe pattern, [[Zig Zag]] is the owner and star of [[Double Z Studios]], an adult film studio, and is the creation of [[Max Black Rabbit]]. For a while she and Lucy dated. With both of them being almost totally promiscuous, it seemed like a perfect match; even though Lucy still made out with Fisk, and Zig Zag still made out with almost anybody with a pulse. When Lucy lost her job at Sonica over the ''New Talian Idol'' incident, Zig Zag offered her a job composing music for her movies. After Lucy was rehired at Sonica, the two have drifted apart. They are still friends but are no longer dating; Lucy says it's because of Zig Zag's eye for Double Z's [[Sabrina|web mistress]].

===Desi===

A black cat who was once Lucy's boss at Sonica. She was the one who pegged Lucy for the host position on ''New Talian Idol'', and she received a hairspray enema for her trouble. When Lucy was rehired at Sonica, Desi was demoted for causing the whole mess, and Lucy was now her boss. It was too much for Desi, and later on she quit. Desi now hosts ''New Talian Idol''.

===Dirk's Parents===

Dirk's parents show up just in time for his and Lydia's wedding. They are divorced, and it seems they are not from North America—or at least his father isn't—as there is a reference to "football" being the same as "soccer". Dirk's father's name is Kirk, and his mother's name is Carol.

===Linda===

Dirk's sister, who has been in England for the last five years. When Lucy tried to get Dirk and Lydia back together, she found him with another woman, not knowing that it was his sister. Unlike Lucy and Fisk, there is nothing more to their relationship.

===Lola the Comedy Kitten===

A cat who appears every now and then when Mat can't come up with a good way to end a comic, usually by making some random comment on the current goings on, or doing something completely irrelevent; as such, she often talks to the audience directly, breaking the [[fourth wall]]. Unlike the other characters, Lola takes the shape of a normal cat.

One time when Mat was feeling down, Amber, creator of [[Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures]] kidnapped Lola and threatened to change her into a succubus if Mat didn't pay her a ransom of jellybeans, but no licorice ones. Lucy's answer was to kidnap all of DMFA's mows, which proved disastrous, and Amber turned Lola into a succubus. She is now promising much revenge on Mat.

Lydia takes very much after her mother, right down to their inability to drink alcohol—both get drunk whenever the slightest bit touches their lips. Ironically, Lydia's father looks like an older version of Dirk, although this could be the result of Mat's simplistic art style leaving little room for character variation. Lydia's mother's name is Delia, while her father's name was recently retconned to "Charles"; it was originally given as "Albert".

===Mat===

The author of the comic. Mat inserts himself occasionally when there is need to talk about the direction the comic is going. In real life, Mat works at a Pizza Hut, loves music, and was a professional wrestling fan, though horribly disappointed by it now. Mat isn't really a part of the comic continuity, and often speaks to the audience directly, breaking the [[fourth wall]].

===Nikashi===

A friend of Dirk's who works at his record store. He's also Sally's boyfriend.

===Sally===

A heavily tattooed woman who works with Lydia. In a Halloween strip, it is revealed she is actually a carnivorous demon from the depths of Hell, who knew? It's unknown if her boyfriend, Nikashi knows.

===Sheila===

Lucy and Fisk's mother, she has appeared frequently through the comic. Even though she often asks Lucy if she's got a boyfriend, she suspects that her daughter is gay; she accepts her daughter is bisexual, but Sheila hopes that Lucy will at least get a boyfriend and mother a child at some point.

===Snow===

A pet ferret that Lucy bought Lydia during her break-up with Dirk. Lydia named her ''Snow'' (short for ''Snowball'') because her fur is completely white, a la Snow White.

===Vincent Rann===

The president of Ranntech, he is a billionaire who bought Sonica magazine. Shortly after, he tried to sue Lucy for $1.5 million for damages related to the ''New Talian Idol'' incident. Lucy countersued, forcing an out of court settlement. Rann didn't like that he had to bow down at all, and has tried various schemes to make her life a living hell.

==The New Talian Idol Incident==

''New Talian Idol'' is a parody of ''American Idol'' and is the closest thing to an epic story to appear in BDK; of all plot lines and story arcs in BDK, this was the biggest and affected the most people.

===New Talian Idol===

In Late 2002/Early 2003, ''Sonica Magazine'' signed a deal with ''New Reality Studios'' to produce a home-grown version of ''American Idol''. On January 21, 2003, Desi gives the assignment of hosting ''New Talian Idol'' to venom-tongued critic Lucy, who utterly despises ''American Idol'', thinking she'd be the perfect Simon Cowell-esque host.

On March 17, 2003, Lucy arrives on the set of ''New Talian Idol'', and meets the two people that she and Desi are working with. '''Buck''' is the producer and is so vain that he thinks every girl secretly wants to make out with him, constantly joking with lines like "Sorry, but I'm already married". '''Jack''' is Lucy's co-host, and is attracted to Lucy, but he has a nasty habit of saying things that he thinks are compliments, but are actually insulting.

:At this point, the comic drones on about some other stuff, primarily flashbacks from Lucy to delay the continuation of ''New Talian Idol''.

On May 19, 2003, Lucy returns to the set for taping of ''New Talian Idol'', were she is confronted with Buck and Jack again; sadly her annoyance over the whole deal is quite pronounced, making her seem like the perfect "Simon Cowell". She goes to Lydia for help and gets a makeover, trying to act nicer. When it seems that Jack is coming on to her, she tells him she's a lesbian, but he seems unphased; worse, it draws even more unwanted attention from Buck. This leads to her changing her story and saying she has a boyfriend, and uses Dirk to try and throw Buck and Jack off; but Dirk acts a little too cozy with Lucy and Lydia accuses him of philandering. All this fails, and Buck simply uses it to promote Lucy as a lesbian caricature on the show.

During the show, Lucy realizes that the only way out of this is to simply daydream and ignore the show completely. Buck mentions to Desi that Lucy doesn't seem as volatile as she described, but Desi says that the next act will bring out the worst in her. The next song is the most horrible thing in the world, that dreaded Céline Dion song from Titanic.

:After a brief repose to celebrate Canada Day and Independence Day, we return to ''New Talian Idol'' where...

Lucy goes totally off the deep end. She berates the whole show for taking people who may have real talent and squandering it on useless pop tunes; she blasts Jack for constantly eyeing her and Buck for his egotistical delusions, then storms off to her dressing room promising a hairspray enema to the first person she sees. That person happens to be Desi, who orders Lucy to go back out there, saying that it's just another assignment and is part of her job at Sonica, ignorant of the can of hairspray Lucy is now shaking. When Desi tells her to do the show or she's fired, Lucy leaves, giving Desi the payback she deserves.

As a result, Lucy loses her job, and reluctantly goes to Zig Zag looking for another job; thankfully getting one that doesn't involve what she is or isn't wearing. Dirk and Lydia break-up over the incident where he and Lucy pretended to be lovers. Meanwhile Sonica is left footing the bill over ''New Talian Idol'', and is forced to pay damages to ''New Reality Studios'' for breaching their contract.

===Aftermath===

April 27, 2004, Lucy receives a notice in the mail that she is being sued 1.5 million New Talian Dollars—roughly 900,000 USD according to Lola—because she walked out on ''New Talian Idol'', and Sonica was left to foot the damages. It turns out Sonica was bought by a company called Ranntech, and its owner, Vincent Rann is looking to make as much money off it as possible. When Lucy mentions it to Zig Zag, she gets her lawyer to look into it; apparently Zig Zag had a run in with Rann and would love to tie his legal knickers in a knot. The meeting with the lawyer goes well, and Lucy countersues Sonica on grounds of wrongful dismissal.

Knowing that Lucy is in the right and would likely win the suit, Mr. Rann's lawyer comes up with a solution: if they both drop their lawsuits, Sonica hires Lucy back as an editor; that way she's working for Rann and making him money, or if she steps out of line he can fire her legitimately. Meanwhile, Desi gets punished for causing the whole fiasco.

In the end, Lucy gets the job she wanted, but she is now in the sights of Vincent Rann, who is waiting for a chance to trip her up. Desi despises working under Lucy, but eventually gets a new job, hosting the new ''New Talian Idol''; Lucy thinks this is fitting punishment, not realizing there are people who like the Idol concept. Also, Lucy finds out that Jezzebel works in Sonica's mail room; soon after, they start dating.

==Recent Changes==

* Lucy and Lydia became—or filed to become—New Talian citizens on November 3, 2004, in response to the reelection of George W. Bush as president of the United States; up to that point they were still American citizens. It's an obvious spoof of liberals and Democrats who threatened to move to Canada if Bush was reelected.

* Fisk was killed in Iraq. Sheila received a $3 million insurance payoff; she gave half to Lucy, and is planning to move to New Talia.

* Lucy tries her hand in the professional wrestling circuit as a wrestler's girlfriend, whose bit is to kick guys in the crotch; her wrestling name is ''Monica Sweet''. The promoter fires her when he feels there's no place for her, prompting Lucy to kick one last guy in the crotch.

* A teaser image suggests Lola will soon return to BDK after Amber turned her into a succubus; but a cryptic message doesn't tell us if she's returning to normal, or if she's returning to the badly drawn style.

Jyrras has been labeled "incredibly cute" by his six older sisters that appear more like a kangaroo than a rat, like himself. This is something that he greatly dislikes.

Jyrras is a genius inventor of many technical gizmos. He owns his own company, Jycorp, and has made millions. He has created many dangerous weapons (that he claims to be "farming" or "mining" tools) in his underground lab. Breaking [[Furrae]] laws, Jy has even created life in the form of a bubble-gum bunny named "DEATH-BRINGER" (she chose her own name), or Deebs.

An anthropomorphic [[cow]]/demon-[[horse|mare]] named [[Lorenda Soulstealer]] lives at Jyrras' mansion. Jyrras is confused about whether he likes her more than just a friend. Unfortunately, this is not the only person the kangaroo/kangaroo-rat might have feelings for. Others include his best friend since childhood, retired adventurer [[Daniel Ti'Fiona]] who has recently discovered he is an [[Wikipedia:incubus|incubus]]; and a tough-guy and brutally honest incubus that might be softer than he seems, [[Abel Rewanz|Abel]].

Jyrras' feisty ferret friend, [[Wildy-san]], wrote an entire novel where Jyrras becomes a super-villain against pink-suited secret agent Janus Bond (a spoof on DMFA fan, [[Janus Whitefurr]]). When Janus is captured, a wheel-of-death dictates he is to be put to death by [[Wikipedia:Shōnen-ai|shōnen-ai]].

Jyrras Gianna has become one of the favorite characters of DMFA. In the latest comics, the [[stereotype|stereotypically]] cute Jyrras has gained a new outfit and is developing a deeper character.

The comic as a whole is rated PG, although the ''Abel's Story'' [[Wikipedia:Story arc|arc]] (starting on 15 October 2005) is rated NC-14. The [[DMFA Radio Project]], founded in July 2005, provides an unofficial voiced version of much of the comic.

== Origins of DMFA ==

DMFA began in 1998, when Amber promised a shrine of sorts on Furcadia to anyone who could find a particular song for her. When a friend who went by the name of Daniel Ti'Fiona found the song in question, Amber made good on her promise and created the shrine. As a joke, she added a sign proclaiming "Coming soon: the Misadventures of Daniel Ti'Fiona, the comic!" However, Daniel took this seriously and continually prodded her to actually start the comic until she finally gave in, posting the first comic in 1999.

Initially featuring Daniel and Miss Mab, the cast of the comic soon expanded, including both friends of Amber's on Furcadia and characters of her own creation. Later on in 1999, the comic fell into a hiatus for about a year. Amber resumed comic production in 2000, and the comic has been updating steadily ever since.

== Plot ==
The comic's arcs revolve around the adventures and misadventures of the cast. Most of these exploits are whimsical and humorous, sometimes parodying aspects of [[wikipedia:popular culture|popular culture]]. Most events occur in a fictional land called Furrae; specifically, in an inn/pub called [[Lost Lake]] (based off of the real Lost Lake in Furcadia).

;[[Daniel Ti'Fiona]]
:A retired feline adventurer, Daniel is one of the main characters of the comic. He loves [[wikipedia:ale|ale]] and has a strong fascination for [[wikipedia:Amazons|Amazons]]. It has been revealed that Dan is an [[wikipedia:incubus|incubus]]. Currently, he is struggling to come to terms with his 'cubi heritage at the Succubus and Incubus Academy (SAIA) with the 'assistance' of Abel and Fa'lina. He resides in the basement of his sister's tavern and inn, Lost Lake.

;[[Miss Mab]]
:Mab is a feline [[wikipedia:fae|fae]]. Usually a whimsical, happy-go-lucky character, Mab has a penchant for hugging anything and everything within reach. In fact, she possesses a list of "Things to Hug." However, don't get her angry. She once blew up an entire glen when aggravated. Apparently thousands of years old, Mab used to live in a distant Fae kingdom, although she left for unknown reasons (although the Wallpaper War section of the website hints at a confrontation with "Queen Nutmeg"). She has been unable to order seafood after witnessing her parents destroy a restaurant while arguing over what to order.

;Pipclideous Dominiscus
:Simply nicknamed 'Pip,' he is a golden [[wikipedia:drake|drake]] owned by Miss Mab. Easily angered and quite fierce, Pip will often attack anyone that comes within lunging distance, with biting as his preferred method of attack. He especially targets Dan and photographers. He seems very protective of Mab and will attack anyone that makes any advances at her.

;[[Jyrras Gianna]]
:A kangaroo rat/kangaroo mix, Jyrras is one of the most brilliant inventors in all of Furrae. He is rather shy and dislikes attention. Most notably, he has an aversion to being called "cute." As a result, he wears glasses (although he doesn't need them) to create a nerdy visage rather than a cute one. He is credited with inventing "patches," devices that use both technology and magic to alter the users' physical appearance. He has a long-standing crush on Lorenda (and to a lesser extent, on Dan as well), which he had been repressing until Abel unintentionally learned of it while scanning his mind; he has since become very self-conscious about this, and has been trying to bring up the courage to talk to Lorenda about his feelings towards her.

;Lorenda Soulstealer
:Lorenda is a cow/demon-mare hybrid. As such, she is carnivorous, a trait rarely seen in bovines. Since she is half-demon, she has had a hard time keeping a job. She used to work at [[wikipedia:Twink (internet slang)|Twink]] Territories, a haven for [[wikipedia:powergamer|powergamers]] and godmoders everywhere until she met Jyrras, who offered her a place to shack up in return for not devouring him. She currently lives with him near Lost Lake.

;Wildy-san
:A boisterous, devious and somewhat [[wikipedia:Tomboy|tomboy]]-ish ferret, Wildy is small compared to the rest of the cast but she is quite fierce at times, perhaps rivaled only by Pip. With a sharp tongue and a tactless demeanor, she is unafraid to speak her mind. However, she is very protective of her friends and is very open with them. She lives in an apartment away from Lost Lake, yet spends most of her time at Lost Lake.

;Alexsi Ti'Fiona
:Daniel's half-sister and fellow feline, Alexsi runs the tavern and inn known as Lost Lake. Unlike Dan, she does not possess a 'cubi heritage (Alexsi's father remarried after her biological mother's death). She is quite often seen with a comically oversized mallet (inherited from her mother) which she uses to forcibly eject unruly tavern patrons or inn customers.

;Merlitz Meshaiko
:Yet another feline cast member, Merlitz is a practicing fire mage. Currently working as Alexsi's bodyguard, over the years he has become attached to the rest of the Lost Lake denizens. Many consider him the [[wikipedia:straight man|straight man]] of the cast. He had dated Aaryanna, a [[wikipedia:succubus|succubus]], but the couple broke up when Aaryanna accepted a professorship at SAIA, leading him to go back into adventuring.

;Pyroduck
:Nobody knows much about Pyroduck, although he has revealed himself as a time-traveler. He is perhaps best known for making witty comments about the occurrences at the inn, often breaking the [[wikipedia:fourth wall|fourth wall]] in the process. Sometimes he will disappear into the countryside to explore, dropping by Lost Lake to offer his quips and comments at exactly the right time. It has been revealed that he is a [[dragon]].

;Azlan
:An adventurer as well as a vulpine fae, Azlan is fun-loving and quite silly at times. Many of his appearances serve as comic relief. Azlan quickly learned that very few adventurers would take a fae seriously, so he uses a patch to alter his wings' appearance and hide his fae antennae. Azlan often tells stories of the exploits of his wife Neni, who appears to cause chaos wherever she goes. He carries around a "squeeky koala of doom," a gift from Neni.

;Aaryanna
:Merlitz encountered Aaryanna during one of the cast's many adventures. A feline succubus, Aaryanna graduated from the Succubus and Incubus Academy (SAIA) roughly 25 years ago and since then has been seeking her favorite teacher, Destania, who left SAIA on an assignment and never returned. A [[phoenix]] [[wikipedia:oracle|oracle]] led her to believe that Daniel had killed Destania and she set out in search for Dan. A short fight ensued, but Mab forced the two to talk things out. During her stay at Lost Lake, she attempted to tutor Dan in the ways of the 'cubi, much to his dismay. She has an affinity for toast and recently became SAIA's new professor of pain and torture.

;Abel Dimitri Rewanz
:Like Dan, Abel is a feline incubus. Unlike Dan, Abel has fully embraced his cubi heritage and is one of the top students at SAIA, although he has filled his schedule with menial classes such as grass growing and tennis. Abel has been banned from the SAIA library due to the "Library Incident." (Much like the "Noodle Incident" of [[wikipedia:Calvin and Hobbes|Calvin and Hobbes]] fame, it has never been described yet it has been referenced on occasion.) He has also been hell for the rooming assigners, who have to find him new roommates as often as once a semester. He also seems to have a grudge against dragons, but this might be related to all 'cubi. Abel has also been assigned to Dan as his 'cubi tutor. While showing a dissatisfaction in leaving SAIA and being a tutor, Abel does seem to genuinely care for Dan's well-being.

;Kria Soulstealer
:A demon-mare and Lorenda's mother, Kria could be termed the stereotypical demon, as she believes that might makes right, and that the meek shall not inherit the earth. Before she discovered that she was pregnant with Lorenda, Kria devoured her husband after she discovered him cheating on her. Her daughter being her one soft spot, Kria tries her best to maintain her relationship with Lorenda, despite her daughter's continuing association with those... ''lessers''.

;Biggs-san
:Wildy's brother, Biggs is the ruler of Twink Territories. Like all ferrets, Biggs is diminuitive in size but is a fearsome ruler. He has a long rivalry with Wildy, and several encounters ended violently... most with Wildy emerging triumphant.

;The Basement Rats
:Dan's roommates, the four rats have never been seen outside of the basement, yet contain a good deal of street smarts. Their names are unknown, except for the female, Photophie. The dark grey one has never been noticed awake. Although they refer to each other as "Bro" and "Sis," only Photophie and the light grey male are actually related.

;Matilda Kissriss
:A female Mythos, Matilda owns a small magical homes and knick-knack store. Some speculate that she is attracted to Daniel, citing the fact that she gave Dan an expensive sword for free and seemed to flirt with him as evidence.

;Dark Pegasus
:A demonic pegasus, Dark Pegasus was one of Dan's most erstwhile foes. In their most recent encounter, where Dark Pegasus attempted to overthrow the kingdom of H-ann and resurrect a dark god for the third time, he and Dan engaged in a fight to the death. Dark Pegasus was vanquished once again and Dan banished his soul by means of an ancient ritual. ("Bad Pegasus! No come back to life! Stay dead! No cookie!!!")

;Aliyka
:A phoenix (but not the flaming type) and a natural arbitrator, Aliyka is an odd combination of adventurer and peace advocate. Therefore, she is usually hired as a messenger rather than an adventurer.

;Fa'lina
:A canine succubus with a love for muffins, Fa'lina is the headmistress of SAIA, which she founded several thousand years ago. Though the exact relationship and its circumstance is unknown, it is known that Abel and Pyroduck are more or less considered adopted by Fa'lina.

;Deathbringer
:The result of one of Jyrras' experiments. A bit of magical energy reacted with some bubblegum Jyrras was chewing to form a pink, rabbit-shaped, sentient bubblegum-being. In an ill-advised move, Jyrras allowed her to pick her own name. She chose "Deathbringer" since it sounded cool. Most simply call her "Deebs."

;Edward Ti'Fiona
:The previous owner of Lost Lake, Edward is Alexsi and Dan's father. He protected an injured Destania when a band of adventurers at the tavern threatened to kill the succubus, knowing full well that he risked his life in doing so. However, Edward and Destania fell in love, married, and had a baby boy named Daniel. His current location is unknown.

;Destania
:A former professor at SAIA, Destania left SAIA on an assignment. She had been attacked during the assignment and stumbled upon Lost Lake, where she met Edward Ti'Fiona, and married him. The rest is history.
:She is currently residing in the Twink Territories - the reasons as to why have not yet been fully explained.

;Fi
:A Warp-Aci, a magically created creature, that is currently "owned" by Dan. Originally created by Fa'lina, but when Pip chased him into a portal-bearing sword, the connection with Fa'lina was broken. Instead of having Fa'lina dispose of Fi, Dan took up ownership of him. As with all Warp-Aci, he can teleport, or create warps in the dimensional fabric of space, and is Dan's main way of getting back to SAIA.

;The Mows
:Although not really characters in their own right, the mows still must be mentioned for sake of authenticity. Mows appear to have been created accidentally during an insane experiment by two of Jyrras' assistants in his absence (as documented in strip #363). Mows are practically indestructible, although generally harmless. They appear to feed on organic material, chiefly cloth. Their one weapon is the ability to latch onto something and buzz their wings quickly, effectively simulating the feeling of that limb falling asleep.

===Non-canon===
These characters are not a part of the DMFA [[wikipedia:canon (fiction)|canon]], but they do appear in the comic.

;Amber M. Williams
:Based off of the real Amber but exaggerated in several respects, she usually appears in the comics answering "Questions from the Readers" or providing a little [[wikipedia:Deus Ex Machina|deus ex machina]] to wrap up a plot. The "Questions from the Readers" comics are considered non-canon.

;Fluffy D. Funni
:A character from a comic Amber began in 6th grade (which she eventually abandoned), Fluffy was resurrected out of a need for some kind of sidekick that didn't violate copyrights in the aforementioned Amber appearances in the comic, as opposed to the previous sidekick, a [[TMNT]] doll.

;John
:Was Amber's first assistant. Worked on the comic with her, but left, and hasn't been in the comic since.

== Premise ==

The story begins with the death of an elderly and lonely veteran, Warren Schaeffer, whose cat died soon before him. In the afterlife threshold, Warren meets a guardian spirit who tells him of his passage to [[Heaven]], but Warren balks when he learns that his cat, as an animal, is excluded from there.

In the resulting argument, a cat goddess named Ilura intercedes and offers an alternative for Warren over the objections of the guardian spirit. Warren accepts and he is taken to the cat afterlife, where cats are reborn into a humanoid primitive civilization. The goddess takes Warren to witness the assassination of a birth defective prince Rhudiprrt. At the moment of his death, Warren is installed as the prince's body's replacement consciousness and charged with the duty of advancing the cat civilization in some undefined way.

Now, as Rhudiprrt and temporarily unable to speak, Warren must adjust to his new life and face the political intrigues he has found himself in.

After Wood left the series with issue 6, a new artist came on board, but the lost momentum was never regained and after some behind the scenes turmoil, publication ground to a halt with issue 9. Years later, Teri Wood resumed the title on her own, writing and drawing issues 10-12. Despite poor sales Mu Press has committed to publishing a conclusion to the story in a promised graphic novel to be written and drawn by Wood. The status of this resolution project is uncertain. Wood in 2006 has announced she is for now concentrating on recovering from health problems.

'''Blueberry''' (born 1988) is similar to an [[otherkin]] or [[therian]]. Her spirit and online character is a [[nonmorphic]] pony of the [[Wikipedia:Icelandic Horse|Icelandic Horse]] breed. Her name comes from an American pony [[Boss Hoss]] says she always reminds him of, but in her case the name Blueberry comes from her addiction to the berries instead of colour.

She is a gentle light palomino [[Wikipedia:Icelandic Horse|Icelandic Horse]] (pony) with a creamy white mane, tail, star, and socks on all four hooves. Her hooves are black and have no shoes, and her mane long. She seems young, not as fully built as an adult horse, but not a foal any more either.

On the web and in person, she bonds almost instantly with people who have a real life past living with and loving horses, and tends to be very obedient and affectionate to them. People like this don't need to tell her about it as she always just seems to know. She also is friends with many others who've had little or no experience's before her, they just take a little bit longer to gain the same trust.

==Personality==

Blueberry is a very gentle little pony who rarely talks in first person both online and in person. She has all the normal horse instincts and gaits, but is relatively untrained and skittish. At the time of writing she has been trained a little as a riding horse, though she certainly doesn't work like in the westerns. If you need help, tell her and she can explain the basics for you usually.

She's used to human contact, but isn't as snuggly as canids, so hug in moderation. Grains, fruits, and carrots make good treats if you'd like to reward her. Unless you're really close to her, physical punishments aren't a good idea.. "Bad horse" works well though.

If you need any help, you can always google for information on icelandic horses. It should all apply to her as well, except a few little things special to her.

* She's sensitive to strong swearing and loudness, both can spook her badly and bring back memories. She is being 'bomb proofed' slowly though, so this will hopefully be less and less true in the future.
* While she's had a bit of experience as a riding horse and understands most of the signals, she's not as used to the tack as she should be, so be careful not to make her feel trapped if you do this with her.

==Dreams==

Blueberry's dream is just to have a herd, family. To live with them, as one of them. She dreams of living on a farm, perhaps with a few little privileges like use of toilets and clothes, and a bed in the shelter, trained, loved, and taken care of like the rest of the family.. Sleeping with them, only going in to the house when escourted by an owner and not often. Treated normal by the humans and anthropomorphics, like horses already treat her.

Her dream is hopefully going to start coming true in March, 2007. Wish her luck. :)

* She carries with her almost everywhere a little green leather book with hand made pages and binding, and inside she keeps written down a list of all the most amazingly nice things people have said to her that she can read whenever she's droopy..
* One thing she really wants to do one day is buy a beautiful blank book with entirely blank pages, and leave it that way, forever new.
* She carries a horse plushie in her backpack, it's head peeking out, so everyone sees a horse when they look at her.

'''Midnight Fury''' is a female anthro artist from South Mississippi. Her real name is Rachel Lein, and she usually signs her name as R.Lein on her art. She's known for brightly colored furry art that has a bit of an "anime" spin to it. Her favorite subjects are equines and felines.

Her [[fursona]] is a [[squirrel]]/[[cat]] hybrid called Fury, sometimes referred to as “The Original Squitty.” Fury's own personality is a rather accurate depiction of Rachel's true personality. While usually good natured and cooperative and always ready to have some fun, she has no problem showing her claws if she has to. She is strong willed and incredibly stubborn, but values honesty and politeness.

On 1 November 2002, Midnight Fury got married to a furry sometimes known as [[Happenstance]] around the furry community. His presence is not nearly so apparent as her own, even though she mentions him rather frequently. They live in Columbia, Mississippi with their many beloved pets on a 5+ acre farm.

Fury's favorite hang out spots on the internet include Deviant Art, Fur Affinity, Live Journal, and Furtopia. However, her presence in furry communities is basically a minimum. She rarely strays from the aforementioned websites. She does not readily trust new people she meets because she's suffered betrayals by some she allowed into her private life without knowing them very well first. This has made her seem rather stand-offish in nature.

It updates three times a week, normally on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The first five arcs are in black and white. Starting in the middle of the sixth arc, the comic has been in color. The comic is partially based off of the online game [[Furcadia]] and several of the main characters are based off of the artist's friends there.

In September 2005 the comic's site was hacked. The title was replaced with "Some Stupid Webcomic" and most of the homepage links were redirected to http://www.cvrpg.com/ . On September 21 the site was restored with a new layout and it was revealed that the "hacking" had been a prank by Amber and her brother Mike.

The comic as a whole is rated PG, although the ''Abel's Story'' [[Wikipedia:Story arc|arc]] (starting on 15 October 2005) is rated NC-14. The [[DMFA Radio Project]], founded in July 2005, provides an unofficial voiced version of much of the comic.

== Origins of DMFA ==

DMFA began in 1998, when Amber promised a shrine of sorts on Furcadia to anyone who could find a particular song for her. When a friend who went by the name of Daniel Ti'Fiona found the song in question, Amber made good on her promise and created the shrine. As a joke, she added a sign proclaiming "Coming soon: the Misadventures of Daniel Ti'Fiona, the comic!" However, Daniel took this seriously and continually prodded her to actually start the comic until she finally gave in, posting the first comic in 1999.

Initially featuring Daniel and Miss Mab, the cast of the comic soon expanded, including both friends of Amber's on Furcadia and characters of her own creation. Later on in 1999, the comic fell into a hiatus for about a year. Amber resumed comic production in 2000, and the comic has been updating steadily ever since.

== Plot ==
The comic's arcs revolve around the adventures and misadventures of the cast. Most of these exploits are whimsical and humorous, sometimes parodying aspects of [[wikipedia:popular culture|popular culture]]. Most events occur in a fictional land called Furrae; specifically, in an inn/pub called [[Lost Lake]] (based off of the real Lost Lake in Furcadia).

;[[Daniel Ti'Fiona]]
:A retired feline adventurer, Daniel is one of the main characters of the comic. He loves [[wikipedia:ale|ale]] and has a strong fascination for [[wikipedia:Amazons|Amazons]]. It has been revealed that Dan is an [[wikipedia:incubus|incubus]]. Currently, he is struggling to come to terms with his 'cubi heritage at the Succubus and Incubus Academy (SAIA) with the 'assistance' of Abel and Fa'lina. He resides in the basement of his sister's tavern and inn, Lost Lake.

;[[Miss Mab]]
:Mab is a feline [[wikipedia:fae|fae]]. Usually a whimsical, happy-go-lucky character, Mab has a penchant for hugging anything and everything within reach. In fact, she possesses a list of "Things to Hug." However, don't get her angry. She once blew up an entire glen when aggravated. Apparently thousands of years old, Mab used to live in a distant Fae kingdom, although she left for unknown reasons. She has been unable to order seafood after witnessing her parents destroy a restaurant while arguing over what to order.

;Pipclideous Dominiscus
:Simply nicknamed 'Pip,' he is a golden [[wikipedia:drake|drake]] owned by Miss Mab. Easily angered and quite fierce, Pip will often attack anyone that comes within lunging distance, with biting as his preferred method of attack. He especially targets Dan and photographers. He seems very protective of Mab and will attack anyone that makes any advances at her.

;[[Jyrras Gianna]]
:A kangaroo rat/kangaroo mix, Jyrras is one of the most brilliant inventors in all of Furrae. He is rather shy and dislikes attention. Most notably, he has an aversion to being called "cute." As a result, he wears glasses (although he doesn't need them) to create a nerdy visage rather than a cute one. He is credited with inventing "patches," devices that use both technology and magic to alter the users' physical appearance.

;Lorenda Soulstealer
:Lorenda is a cow/demon-mare hybrid. As such, she is carnivorous, a trait rarely seen in bovines. Since she is half-demon, she has had a hard time keeping a job. She used to work at [[wikipedia:Twink (internet slang)|Twink]] Territories, a haven for [[wikipedia:powergamer|powergamers]] and godmoders everywhere until she met Jyrras, who offered her a place to shack up in return for not devouring him. She currently lives with him near Lost Lake.

;Wildy-san
:A boisterous and devious ferret, Wildy is small compared to the rest of the cast but she is quite fierce at times, perhaps rivaled only by Pip. With a sharp tongue and a tactless demeanor, she is unafraid to speak her mind. However, she is very protective of her friends and is very open with them. She lives in an apartment away from Lost Lake, yet spends most of her time at Lost Lake.

;Alexsi Ti'Fiona
:Daniel's half-sister and fellow feline, Alexsi runs the tavern and inn known as Lost Lake. Unlike Dan, she does not possess a 'cubi heritage (Alexsi's father remarried after her biological mother's death). She is quite often seen with a comically oversized mallet (inherited from her mother) which she uses to forcibly eject unruly tavern patrons or inn customers.

;Merlitz Meshaiko
:Yet another feline cast member, Merlitz is a practicing fire mage. Currently working as Alexsi's bodyguard, over the years he has become attached to the rest of the Lost Lake denizens. Many consider him the [[wikipedia:straight man|straight man]] of the cast. He had dated Aaryanna, a [[wikipedia:succubus|succubus]], but the couple broke up when Aaryanna accepted a professorship at SAIA.

;Pyroduck
:Nobody knows much about Pyroduck, although he has revealed himself as a time-traveler. He is perhaps best known for making witty comments about the occurrences at the inn, often breaking the [[wikipedia:fourth wall|fourth wall]] in the process. Sometimes he will disappear into the countryside to explore, dropping by Lost Lake to offer his quips and comments at exactly the right time. It has been revealed that he is a dragon.

;Azlan
:An adventurer as well as a vulpine fae, Azlan is fun-loving and quite silly at times. Many of his appearances serve as comic relief. Azlan quickly learned that very few adventurers would take a fae seriously, so he uses a patch to alter his wings' appearance and hide his fae antennae. Azlan often tells stories of the exploits of his wife Neni, who appears to cause chaos wherever she goes. He carries around a "squeeky koala of doom," a gift from Neni.

;Aaryanna
:Merlitz encountered Aaryanna during one of the cast's many adventures. A feline succubus, Aaryanna graduated from the Succubus and Incubus Academy (SAIA) roughly 25 years ago and since then has been seeking her favorite teacher, Destania, who left SAIA on an assignment and never returned. A [[phoenix]] [[wikipedia:oracle|oracle]] led her to believe that Daniel had killed Destania and she set out in search for Dan. A short fight ensued, but Mab forced the two to talk things out. During her stay at Lost Lake, she attempted to tutor Dan in the ways of the 'cubi, much to his dismay. She has an affinity for toast and recently became SAIA's new professor of pain and torture.

;Abel
:Like Dan, Abel is a feline incubus. Unlike Dan, Abel has fully embraced his cubi heritage and is one of the top students at SAIA, although he has filled his schedule with menial classes such as grass growing and tennis. Abel has been banned from the SAIA library due to the "Library Incident." (Much like the "Noodle Incident" of [[wikipedia:Calvin and Hobbes|Calvin and Hobbes]] fame, it has never been described yet it has been referenced on occasion.) He has also been hell for the rooming assigners, who have to find him new roommates as often as once a semester. He also seems to have a grudge against dragons, but this might be related to all 'cubi. Abel has also been assigned to Dan as his 'cubi tutor. While showing a dissatisfaction in leaving SAIA and being a tutor, Abel does seem to genuinely for Dan's well-being.

===Secondary Characters===

;Kria Soulstealer
:A demon-mare and Lorenda's mother, Kria could be termed the stereotypical demon, as she believes that might makes right, and that the meek shall not inherit the earth. Before she discovered that she was pregnant with Lorenda, Kria devoured her husband after she discovered him cheating on her. Her daughter being her one soft spot, Kria tries her best to maintain her relationship with Lorenda, despite her daughter's continuing association with those... ''lessers''.

;Biggs-san
:Wildy's brother, Biggs is the ruler of Twink Territories. Like all ferrets, Biggs is diminuitive in size but is a fearsome ruler. He has a long rivalry with Wildy, and several encounters ended violently... most with Wildy emerging triumphant.

;The Basement Rats
:Dan's roommates, the four rats have never been seen outside of the basement, yet contain a good deal of street smarts. Their names are unknown, except for the female, Photophie. The dark grey one has never been noticed awake. Although they refer to each other as "Bro" and "Sis," only Photophie and the light grey male are actually related.

;Matilda Kissriss
:A female Mythos, Matilda owns a small magical homes and knick-knack store. Some speculate that she is attracted to Daniel, citing the fact that she gave Dan an expensive sword for free and seemed to flirt with him as evidence.

;Dark Pegasus
:A demonic pegasus, Dark Pegasus was one of Dan's most erstwhile foes. In their most recent encounter, where Dark Pegasus attempted to overthrow the kingdom of H-ann and resurrect a dark god for the third time, he and Dan engaged in a fight to the death. Dark Pegasus was vanquished once again and Dan banished his soul by means of an ancient ritual. ("Bad Pegasus! No come back to life! Stay dead! No cookie!!!")

;Aliyka
:A phoenix (but not the flaming type) and a natural arbitrator, Aliyka is an odd combination of adventurer and peace advocate. Therefore, she is usually hired as a messenger rather than an adventurer.

;Fa'lina
:A canine succubus with a love for muffins, Fa'lina is the headmistress of SAIA, which she founded several thousand years ago.

;Deathbringer
:The result of one of Jyrras' experiments. A bit of magical energy reacted with some bubblegum Jyrras was chewing to form a pink, rabbit-shaped, sentient bubblegum-being. In an ill-advised move, Jyrras allowed her to pick her own name. She chose "Deathbringer" since it sounded cool. Most simply call her "Deebs."

;Edward Ti'Fiona
:The previous owner of Lost Lake, Edward is Alexsi and Dan's father. He protected an injured Destania when a band of adventurers at the tavern threatened to kill the succubus, knowing full well that he risked his life in doing so. However, Edward and Destania fell in love, married, and had a baby boy named Daniel.

;Destania
:A former professor at SAIA, Destania left SAIA on an assignment. She had been attacked during the assignment and stumbled upon Lost Lake. The rest is history.

;Fi
:A Warp-Aci, a magically created creature, that is currently "owned" by Dan. Originally created by Fa'lina, but when Pip chased him into a portal-bearing sword, the connection with Fa'lina was broken. Instead of having Fa'lina dispose of Fi, Dan took up ownership of him. As with all Warp-Aci, he can teleport, or create warps in the dimensional fabric of space, and is Dan's main way of getting back to SAIA.

;The Mows
:Although not really characters in their own right, the mows still must be mentioned for sake of authenticity. Mows appear to have been created accidentally during an insane experiment by two of Jyrras' assistants in his absence (as documented in strip #363). Mows are practically indestructible, although generally harmless. They appear to feed on organic material, chiefly cloth. Their one weapon is the ability to latch onto something and buzz their wings quickly, effectively simulating the feeling of that limb falling asleep.

These characters are not a part of the DMFA [[wikipedia:canon (fiction)|canon]], but they do appear in the comic.

;Amber M. Panyko
:Based off of the real Amber but exaggerated in several respects, she usually appears in the comics answering "Questions from the Readers" or providing a little [[wikipedia:Deus Ex Machina|deus ex machina]] to wrap up a plot. The "Questions from the Readers" comics are considered non-canon.

;Fluffy D. Funni
:A character from a comic Amber began in 6th grade (which she eventually abandoned), Fluffy was resurrected out of a need for some kind of sidekick that didn't violate copyrights in the aforementioned Amber appearances in the comic.

The community attempts to court more mature furries who want a different environment free from teenage angst and other difficulties rampant on other forums to discuss material that might not be open for discussion elsewhere. According to the forum's somewhat satirical Terms of Service, ''we do care about having members who are sane, intelligent, and generally cool and interesting people.''

'''AnthroXtacy''' is a sim community in [[Second Life]] based upon night club and fantasy [[role play]] foundations for [[furries]] and [[anthro]] members of the game.

It started in summer 2006 when [[Fargo Divine]] and [[Tinintri Mistral]] purchased land in Second Life and built a club, a pool 'resort', and a few other ammenities. A month later, Fargo Divine purchased the sim island in Second Life of AnthroXtacy Island and has since been rebuilding it.

It now is in a fantasy theme, with the club and heart of the community itself being a giant gothic castle. It also has a market for furries to rent space and sell their wares for L$ currency, a battle RP arena in the middle of a forest, rental home areas, and other areas throughout the space in the island.

Disputes have sparked with [[Fur_Valleys#FurPleasure|FurPleasure]], another furry night life sim/club, although all drama with them were sparked by inaccurate statements of one club or another stealing the other's patrons and/or staff. None of the claims brought forth to either of the owners of either club were found to be valid. Infact, the two clubs are joined together in a group on SL 'club workers against griefers' and help to ward off griefing attacks and those who come in just to stir trouble.

The two owners of the sim are Fargo Divine and Tinintri Mistral, with their numerous managers that watch over the operations.

There are two stories within ''Maus''. Vladek Spiegelman's story of surviving the holocaust, and Art Spiegelman's present day story of his flawed relationship with his father. Often there will be a present day scene ending with Art prompting his father to continue his story, at which point Vladek's story picks up where it was last left. The reason for this creative decision is alluded to in two quotes printed in ''Maus''. The first quote is by [[Wikipedia:Adolph Hitler|Adolph Hitler]]. "The Jews are undoubtedly a race. But they are not human." The second quote is from a Pomeranian newspaper article. "[[Wikipedia:Mickey Mouse|Mickey Mouse]] is the most miserable ideal ever revealed....Healthy emotions tell every independent young man and every honourable youth that the dirty and filth-covered vermin, the greatest bacteria carrier in the animal kingdom, cannot be the ideal type of animal....Away with Jewish brutalization of the people! Down with Mickey Mouse! Wear the Swastika Cross!" So is Art Spiegelman agreeing with these quotations by using mice to represent the Jewish people? No, he is defying these statements.

Germans are represented as cats, presumably due to the predatory power cats have over mice being an analogy of the power Nazi Germany exerted over the Jewish people. The French are frogs (referring to a Frenchman as a frog is a common English slang dating back to 19th century; it is probably from the French relishing frogs as a delicacy, reinforced by the toads on the coat of arms of the city of Paris), Poles are pigs, Swedes are deer and Americans are dogs.

== Trivia ==

* Polish release of the comic has been delayed considerably, as it was first published in Poland in 2001. The reason for this was the controversy that the use of pigs to represent Polish characters caused. Even Art Spiegelman officially stating that he did not intend to portray Poles negatively did not help shorten the delay.

== Problems with variable/value inheritance ==

I can't seem to get any pages to inherit the 'bot' state from their parent (that is, the page they were linked from). The reason could lie within the fact that the pages linked from it are given in this format: '/wiki/pagetitle' rather than this one: '/index.php?title=pagetitle', and from what I gather the 'bot mode' only works if the URL is shown in the latter format (I guess this has to do with PHP-applets and stuff, which I honestly don't have a clue how works :).

:It is under the artist's copyright. The cropping is a trivial modification that does not affect this. However, most commissions operate under the (often implicit) agreement that the image may be used by the commissioner to represent the character concerned, at least in non-profit ways. You should use the <nowiki>{{fursona}}</nowiki> tag on the image description page to signify this.

:Firstly, please be aware that it is not "your page". It is "the page about you". The page which is "your page" is [[User:Jeremy, the Duke of Otterland]], which is typically written in the first person by you, and will generally only be edited in situations where someone is specifically causing a problem or is making a personal attack on another contributor. The page ''about'' you is written by in the third person by '''everyone'''. The plus side is that it has some appearance of impartiality, and with some cause . . . because the downside is that it reflects people's opinions of you, which may not always be to your credit.

:The best way to avoid this is to avoid deliberately pissing other people off so they don't feel the need to raise an issue about it in the first place. :-) Failing that, note your objection on the discussion page attached to the article, and others can figure out how best to present the appropriate information while retaining a [[Wikipedia:Neutral point of view|neutral]]. We can usually figure out a way that works for everyone.
