Lymril: Small grammatical changes

{{wrongtitle|#SoftPaws}}
'''<nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws''' is a furry-oriented chat channel located on the [[FurNet (IRC)|FurNet]] [[IRC]] network. It is a general chat channel with a non-specific rating of '''"Mostly Worksafe,"''' meaning that "work safe" content is preferred but not rigidly enforced. <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws is hosted by [[Lymril]] who first opened the channel on [[YiffNet]] in September of 2001.

== History ==

=== Origin ===
'''Keershang''' first opened '''<nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws''' on [[YiffNet]] while using her secondary [[fursona]] of '''[[Lymril]]''' on September 29, 2001. At the time, "Keershang" was still Lymril's main fursona whom she kept on YiffNet's central channel, [[#Furry]]. <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws's initial purpose was to be a small personal channel for Keershang and her friends. Lymril chose the name "SoftPaws" as a diametrical opposite to the expression "iron fisted", and the connection between her two fursonas was not a secret.<ref name="Lymril's personal logs"> Keershang/Lymril's personal IRC logs dated January 1996 through July 2014.</ref>

=== Transformation and Growth ===
The year 2001 was a time of major political upheaval for both YiffNet and many users in <nowiki>#</nowiki>Furry. Lymril openly promoted <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws as an alternate general chat channel that anyone was welcome to join. In April of 2001 she abandoned both <nowiki>#</nowiki>Furry and her Keershang fursona, choosing to focus solely on Lymril and <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws.<ref name="Lymril's personal logs"> Keershang/Lymril's personal IRC logs dated January 1996 through July 2014.</ref>

In November of 2001, [[Elkay]] dissolved the YiffNet IRC network, which was subsequently replaced by [[FurNet]]. The bulk of YiffNet's former channels, including both <nowiki>#</nowiki>Furry and <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws relocated there. Ongoing political stress associated with the growing network and differing philosophies eventually resulted in many users leaving FurNet to join [[Anthrochat]], a new furry IRC network founded by [[Simba]] in March of 2004. <nowiki>#</nowiki>Furry, and most of the other original YiffNet channels relocated to Anthrochat, while Lymril elected to keep <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws on FurNet. With the departure of <nowiki>#</nowiki>Furry, <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws was left as the largest general (non-adult, topic unspecified) chat channel on FurNet. FurNet's newer users, disinterested in old politics, chose to remain with FurNet rather than move to a new network. In search of a new general channel, many users gravitated to <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws.<ref name="Lymril's personal logs"> Keershang/Lymril's personal IRC logs dated January 1996 through July 2014.</ref>

== <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws on FurNet ==

As of July 2014, <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws remains one of the most populated channels on FurNet with user numbers generally running between 100 and 130 throughout a typical week (See external link below for the most recent statistics). The overall channel content rating for <nowiki>#</nowiki>SoftPaws is an unspecified '''"Mostly Worksafe"''', meaning that a PG-13 rating is preferred but not rigidly enforced. Lymril, as channel founder, prefers to let her users' common sense be their guide rather than impose a rigid set of rules.

Lymril elected to keep #SoftPaws on FurNet where it became established as one of the most popular channels.

=== Fursonas ===

Lymril's former Keershang [[fursona]] was a tribal white wolf who was often brash and confrontational, and frequently engaged in [[role-playing]]. Lymril's current [[fursona]] is a [[W:Linsang|linsang]] who is usually depicted wearing exotic outfits. Lymril is most active in private conversation. New images of both characters often appear on [[Furaffinity.]]

How come you do not let me edit my own page and keep reverting it? Ive been trying to keep it blank until i have the info written properly, I'm sorry if that i upset you, but you have all the wrong information on this site. Maxwell Rodgers IS NOT a person, HE IS MY FURSONA. I have not and will not give you my real name. Please let me edit or tell me how to make so you understand that Maxwell Rodgers is my FURSONA, I don't know where to put it. Please help. <small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by [[User:Maxwell5050|Maxwell5050]] ([[User talk:Maxwell5050|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Maxwell5050|contribs]]) .</small>

:Within the fandom, it is normal for people to refer to themselves as their fursonas, but if this is the case, I'm sure we would be glad to correct the article. However, bear in mind that this is not "your own page". It is "''our'' page about your character". While you may own copyright on, say, a story which you wrote about your character, you do not own the right to control factual descriptions of your character by others, just as anyone may write a Wikipedia article about Harry Potter. We will seek to write the best article that we can with the details publicly available. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 17:14, 18 June 2014 (EDT)

I have fixed several broken links on this site by creating redirect pages, but many of these pages have been deleted. I'm confused: why is this happening? :/ [[User:Jarble|Jarble]] ([[User talk:Jarble|talk]]) 02:55, 7 July 2014 (EDT)

== Lymril Dancling ==

I removed the "Dancling" name from FA, since that seems to be an issue. Most people know me only as Lymril. I remember making up "Dancling" when I needed a "last name" for some reason, but it was never "official" and I've never made much use of it. Also, I didn't create the "Lymril Dancling" article. I have no idea why it shows Keershang as having made it today. All I did was delete all text from it and put a redirect on it to my user:lymril page. I seem to remember someone telling me they'd made an article about "Lymril" here in a conversation on IRC some years ago, but I never followed up on it, and until today I never gave it much thought. Please remove that article. I have a pretty good idea of who my character is.

As for the "Lymril" article, that also has a redirect to my user:lymril page until such time as I can make a proper article showing history, etc., in proper Wiki format. The "Lymril" article was made by me today, but I should have created an account as "Lymril" and made a proper user:lymril page. This has been fixed.

[[File:DIW-Lymril Icon 200.png|right]]Thanks for visiting my WikiFur page! I was formerly known as [[User:Keershang|Keershang]] of [[YiffNet]] [[IRC]] fame, but with the demise of YiffNet and the decline of its main channel, #Furry, I decided to remake my character, start my own IRC channel, and generally reboot the [[Furry]] IRC channel franchise. I am now on [[FurNet IRC]] where I run [[Softpaws (IRC)|#SoftPaws]], currently the largest furry-oriented general chat channel on the Internet. Visit the [http://www.softpawschat.com/ #SoftPaws Web page] for more information about the channel and how to get started on IRC. It's a great place to get your furry fix!

The excellent character icon you see to the left was done by [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/darkicewolf DarkIceWolf], creator of some of the most realistic furry art you can find on [http://www.furaffinity.net Furaffinity]. You can see his excellent full-body artwork of my character, along with many other great works, on [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/Lymril Lymril's] Furaffinity account. Drop by and leave a shout!
