You can still edit each section on this page, and I encourage you to do so (assuming you don't intend to vandalise it! :-). However, you must learn how to use templates, first. This will require reading through the [[Help:Contents|help]] and the guide linked from there. Consider this a small competence test before you can edit the first thing people see when they surf here! If you still can't figure it out and want something changed, let me know on user talk or externally, and I can see what I can do.
If you have an idea for a better layout of this page (one which ''cannot'' be easily changed through the templates), please construct it somewhere first, and then let myself or another [[Project:Administrators|administrator]] know. == Help us improve ==
I vote that the "Help us improve" bar be moved to the top of the right column; otherwise, I think it's not as easily seen when sandwiched between two larger articles. [[User:SpazKitty|Spaz Kitty]] 22:20, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

:You're right - it's not as easily seen that way. However, I tried that to start with, and I thought that it spoiled the look somewhat when it is was put there, because the Did you know? section gets shifted down one (the uneven headers look bad).

:It does give me an idea, though. Originally, we had a "wanted pages" section below the new bar, and above. It got removed because stuff was staying on there too long and it was a pain to update. Still, it was in a good place for attention.

:How about we put all of the furpile articles into an expanded "To be improved" category (maybe just by asking people to write a very short stub of them and putting it in stubs), and then use the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/DynamicPageList DynamicPageList extension] (already installed) and a [http://alistapart.com/articles/taminglists/ modified list style] to display it in a similar way to the other lists? That way there's more chance that people will have something that they can improve on a given day, and articles get more than one chance at improvement. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 22:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
::The 3-1 column right now makes the page lopsided and too long, in my opinion (unless future featured articles/DYK? are going to have less content). I also don't like the shortened bars - with long titles like "Help us improve" and "New categories", you can really only see 2-4 items at the most. == Alphabetically by *first* name rather than last? ==
::Um, so, in other words, you're doing it for the benefit of people who don't know how to properly navigate an encyclopedia? - [[User:Kooshmeister|Kooshmeister]]

:::Eh, my apologies if that sounded harsh. This is just a serious pet peeve of mine. - [[User:Kooshmeister|Kooshmeister]]

:::We're doing it for the benefit of users generally. As I see it, the main reason for sorting people by their last names in regular encyclopedias is that people are generally better-known by their last name, or their last name is important because grouping people by family is important (really two sides of the same coin - in both cases, the objective is easier searching or browsing by last name).

:::The furry fandom is a community where people tend to be better known to one another by their first names than their last (e.g. [[Deyna T. Otter]], [[Flinthoof Ponypal]], [[Kaijima A. Frostfang]] - and we also have a '''large''' proportion of people with just one name, or with an InterCapped name like my own). Our articles about people tend to be about these people (as opposed to "external" people, like [[memoryalpha:Talk:People|Star Trek]]). A sign of this is that we tend to refer to people by their first names throughout articles, even if they are "real" people (e.g. [[Mark Merlino]], [[Rod O'Riley]]). The number of people with the same last name is very small, and those that are related to one another will usually link to each other (and since wiki is not paper, you don't have to turn lots of pages to get there). Therefore, it seems better to consistently sort by their well-known first name rather than by a last name which they may or may not have, and which people may or may not know.

:::All other categories are sorted in this manner, so that means we have a self-consistent categorization system. It also happens to make the lives of editors easier, as they don't have to add reordering tags to 1500+ pages about people (and you know people would forget, or not know how to do it, resulting in pages that are ordered incorrectly).

:::The main place in which it seems sensible to reorder is when part of their "name" is an honorific, like [[Uncle Kage]] - people would probably expect to find him sorted under Kage rather than Uncle, especially since his "real" nickname is Kagemushi Goro. There are cases (usually with nicknames) in which this might not be the case, like [[Doctor Fennopolis]] or [[Lord Foxhole]]. Again, the ultimate criteria to make it easier to find people, which is the same reason we have the article name be the most common name (especially if people forget to add redirects from alternate names, as often happens).

:::Regarding your specific point: A '''lot''' of people don't know how to "properly" navigate an encyclopedia. Why should we make their lives harder for the sake of a convention that doesn't apply to our group? Being able to tweak the rules to suit our community is one of the benefits of having a separate wiki in the first place, after all. :-) --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 09:35, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
== Site display problems ==
Approaching this issue with due apprehension, since it frequently causes huge arguments on Wikipedia... how come, in the "Upcoming events" section, RBW and ConFuzzled are given British flags, but ScotiaCon is given a Scottish one? For consistency's sake, either they should all be given UK flags (which would be my preference) or RBW and ConFuzzled should have English flags. No problems with [[Wookiee]], who's mentioned second, but our first example of an artist who can command high prices is Herbie Hamill. Clicking on the wikilink takes you to [[Herbie Bearclaw]], whose article is blank by request and therefore not informative to the reader. It would be better to exchange Herbie's name in ''this'' article for someone who ''does'' have a Wikifur article about themselves. This is Rat, the Yerf guy.. I think I may have messed up the flow a bit, could I get help cleaning it up? Its like trying to represent a 3D thing on a 2D space. There's chronological, but also several threads of things are trying to be represented, the site's main history, as well as little offshoot things.

I read it closer, and it implied some things that weren't true. For example, when the change was made from SCFA to Yerf, that was only a name change, and some redesign of the layout. There was no relaunch as far as rules or anything else goes. It used to be at http://rat.org/yerf, and I wanted it to have its own domain so it could live on without me should the time came, and it did.

: This is doubtless my fault. I was trying to to piece it together from newsgroup posts and the quotes on the back of sugar packets, so I'm sure I got a few things mixed up. :-)

And the grandfathering issue was only due to how long the site had been around, and how inevitibly the rejected applicants would find worse art than their own to point at and ask why that is allowed on but theirs is not. I'm not even sure if the grandfathering thing is worth meantioning really.

: I think it should be there because of the way it constantly seemed to come up as an issue. It was the ''reason'' that there were artists there of the same relative quality as those who were later turned away - without it, Yerf just looks arbitrary.

My move to california from the east coast occured Sept 22, 1998, and Yerf was down for only a week. I pretty much drove to Tugrik's work from NH, in my compact car for 2500 miles with all my possessions. Somehow it survived. :)

: I can top that - I disassembled my computer completely, packed it in my suitcase, and flew 4000 miles from London to Detroit (in fact, more, because I stopped off in Atlanta). Who knows what they did to it in baggage handling, but it survived!

That whole episode had a sad ending, Tugrik made some promises that he didn't deliver on, or he didn't communiate his progress despite me asking, leaving me to believe he lost interest. So I asked for the site back so I could give it to Dingo, who had some great ideas and I believed would do great things. We parted company with him believing I intended to take it back the entire time and I was just using him for temporary hosting. We havent spoken since. So maybe we should downplay, but not remove that section out of respect for Tugrik. Or include it for history's sake, though it is more gossipy that historical. It would be like documenting president Hoover's wife was sleeping with the gardener or something (i just made that up, just an example), its kind of irrelevent. --[[User:Kilorat|Kilorat]]
No worries on my end. I knew I was a temporary host from the start, so returning it when asked was no big deal. Once Yerf moved on I concentrated more on the other sites I hosted, and I've kept up the various hosting projects to this day. They're a little bit bigger of an operation now, spanning three data centers, but they are still dedicated to providing free services to webcomics and artists who need a place. Hosting Yerf in the early days was a good nudge in the right direction for this kind of stuff, so I enjoyed my time helping you guys out.

Never did quite figure out why you guys chose to, as you put it, 'part company' from me and not talk since, or why you were so worried about the process of having it returned. I figure it was because I was just a sitehost and not really a hang-out-level of friend. Our crowds didn't really cross much, either. Because of this I felt your caution about things was understandable. At least I hope you felt I did my job honorably, and that any worries you had about it were proven to be misplaced.

Lengthy server downtime over 2005-6 and competition from newer archives has resulted in loss of popularity among both viewers and [[artist]]s; it is yet to be seen whether or not this will be permanent. The site was the best place to find the early works of many well-known artists.

As indicated by the name, the SCFA was always distinguished by a strong [[PG]] focus. Around the time it was re-branded as Yerf, new policies were introduced concerning the ''quality'' of artwork. At first, a large proportion of artists might still have qualified to enter, but the bar has been raised over time to a point where even reasonably good artists might face several rejections before being allowed in, if they managed it at all. The long, usually six-month, mandatory wait period to reapply heightened this controversy considerably; some unsuccessful applicants believed this was sometimes applied as a form of punishment for failing to complete an application correctly.

This led to claims of elitism, which were (to an extent) ignored, as the majority of community members supported at least some level of quality filtering. Complaints about the speed of the review process were also frequent, due to the difficulty of getting qualified reviewers who could spare the time and effort to review submissions.

== Controversy ==

Although a user called [[RobinLion]] warned people{{fact}} not to donate any money after the initial crash, as Yerf would "most likely never come back,"{{fact}} and the money would instead "be spent on everything but Yerf,"{{fact}} over $2500 was raised in donations. Just a few dollars were spent on a new hard-disk,{{fact}} the rest disappeared.{{fact}}

Volunteers who brought Yerf back up several times never received anything from their efforts, nor was the money ever refunded.{{fact}}
'''Garfield''' is a cartoon [[cat]] character created by Jim Davis. He debuted in a daily [[comic strip]] on June 19, 1978, and since then, has starred in his own animated television series called ''[[Garfield and Friends]]'' from 1988 to 1995, a few animated holiday specials , and has two feature-length 3D animated/live action movies (the most recent which was released June 2006.) Along with [[Odie]], his unlucky-at-love owner Jon Arbuckle, and an assorted cast of minor characters, Garfield uses his wry sense of humor and eternal slothfulness to create humorous, kid-friendly comic situations. Usually his antics end up keeping John unlucky in love, and Odie, depicted as a silent, dense dog, getting into all sorts of mishaps.

A comic with a similar cast of characters is [[Get Fuzzy]], which also features a somewhat thick dog, a cat with a sharp attitude, and an owner getting into more bizarre and less kid-friendly situations. While Garfield is not a furry comic per se, he is an [[anthropomorphic]] character.

[[Image:AdventuresInWonderlandRabbit-Tenniel.jpg|right|A convert to Lapism?]]
'''Lapism''' is a belief system created in the stories of [[Phil Geusz]]. It is described as a [[Wikipedia:Religion|religion]] followed by a small but growing number of people on twenty-first century Earth. The most obvious feature of Lapists is that many of them have undergone a physical [[transformation]] through [[genetic engineering]] to resemble [[anthropomorphic]] [[rabbit]]s.

==Origins==
Within the context of the stories, Lapism was founded in the twenty-first century by [[Dr. Thomas Aaron]], a master "gengineer" ([[Wikipedia:Genetic engineering|genetic engineer]]) who underwent radical alteration to become an anthropomorphic rabbit. He had multiple motives: to regenerate his ailing body, to use a masterpiece body design that would otherwise have been wasted, and to help himself become a better person through emulating rabbits' reputation for peace and kindness. He found that the transformation had a profound effect on him, and ultimately published a document known as the Book of Peace describing his moral insights.

Aaron changed his name to "Sweetgrass" and soon attracted several dozen "converts" to a rabbit form. The United States outlawed animal-based gengineering, but after a prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court granted an exception for Lapists as a "legitimate religion" with a legally protected rite.

The movement continued to grow, becoming a small but prominent group through the end of the current stories' timeline.

==Beliefs and practices==
Lapists study the [[Book of Peace]] as a scripture, and hold regular Discussion Times, typically on Sundays and Wednesdays. These events are nominally for Book study, but in reality believers use them to share social interaction and discuss personal and community issues.

Lapists take new names to go with their new bodies. All of these new names adhere to the general pattern "<nowiki>[Specific plant] [Performer of specific activity]</nowiki> Rabbit". The tradition began with Aaron, who rechristened himself "Sweetgrass Bloomsniffer Rabbit," a name chosen spontaneously by a little girl. Other Lapist names include "Bluegrass Spelunker Rabbit", "Popcorn Scribbler Rabbit" and so on.

Lapists are portrayed as being anthropomorphic rabbits, because of their main ritual: an elaborate physical transformation called the ''Change''. Early Lapist characters joined the movement as adults, but as new generations were born, the children were changed at a young age. Far from merely cosmetic, the standard transformation process alters a person's [[Wikipedia:DNA|DNA]] with rabbit-based genes. Because of the altered body -- large [[feet]], mobile [[ear]]s, and [[tail]] -- the brain itself must be changed somewhat to accommodate it. A very small percentage of the population is incapable of safely undergoing this procedure, or similar regenerative therapies, due to biochemical problems.

Lapists believe that the Change serves two overlapping purposes. One is that the changes in brain structure and chemistry alter behavior directly, making the person more peaceful and friendly. The subtler aspect is social reinforcement. As the believer commits to appearing in public with a rabbit-like appearance as a religious practice, something possible even before any transformation, others react to them as a representative of the religion. The believer feels a duty to be on their best behavior and to live up to the group's positive stereotype. The fact that outsiders think "rabbit" reinforces that stereotype and peer pressure; e.g. Lapists are vulnerable to spontaneous juvenile adhesion ([[hug]]ging).

Not all Lapists have undergone the Change. A novice member wears imitation rabbit ears and tail in public as a means of preparing themselves. The relative importance of the physical rabbit-form and a person's actual beliefs and behavior is a major theme of the Lapist stories. Several protagonists question whether they "have a Rabbit in them," meaning whether they live up to the ideal regardless of their physical form. Aaron/Sweetgrass wrote much of the Book of Peace before his transformation, based on insights gained from other, traumatic experiences. The interplay is summed up by one character:

:''We're no better inside than the next man, despite the fact that we do turn the natural aggression knob down a few clicks as part of the Change. But, in the end, I think that what is important is the fact that we are trying to be something more, trying to achieve higher goals. That, far more than the fur and funny teeth, is what sets us apart from everyone else.'' - Digger, ''[[Full Immersion]]''

The Lapist Church is known to have at least one physical place of worship; a converted Christian church renamed the Oaktree Temple. The Church possesses a gengineering clinic that performs the conversion procedure, which can also be done elsewhere. Its other assets are unknown, but it probably has considerable funds from Aaron/Sweetgrass' numerous [[Wikipedia:Patent|patents]].

==Comparisons==
Geusz has described Lapism as "an entirely new kind of religion," yet it has roots in, and similarities to, existing belief systems. Lapist teachings do not specifically mention any gods or appeal to revealed knowledge, making Lapism similar to some religions, such as [[Wikipedia:Confucianism|Confucianism]], that are sometimes called "philosophy" rather than "religion." The definition of religion is fuzzy enough that Lapism could be considered as either, and even Lapist characters disagree on the question. The Book of Peace is described as Lapism's "bible" and is the topic of extensive study as with Christianity's [[Wikipedia:New Testament|New Testament]]. Church members argue about whether its moral positions should be taken literally, or questioned and reinterpreted. As with [[Wikipedia:Islam|Islam]] and the [[Wikipedia:Quaker|Quaker sect]], there seem to be influential Church members but no official clergy. Lapists have no obvious idols, as with [[Wikipedia:Protestantism|Protestant Christians]], and seem to avoid formally worded prayers, as with [[Wikipedia:Mormonism|Mormonism]]. <ref>[http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/mormon/worship/prayer.shtml Mormonism] from the BBC</ref> As with religion in general, Lapists maintain a community of believers and identify themselves by appearance and ritual.

Lapist ethics emphasize kindness and peace (as with the Quaker [[Wikipedia:Quaker#The_Peace_Testimony|Testimony of Peace]]) but do not reject violence when necessary, judging from the design decisions made for the original anthro-rabbit template. The lack of alleged divine revelation or a racial aspect sets it apart from most existing religions. The group's founder is revered as a leader, but unlike many religious prophets is not said to be divinely inspired. The fact that the Lapist body template involves improved senses and altered diet ties the movement in with [[Wikipedia:Transhumanism|Transhumanism]], the belief that technology can help people to surpass human limitations. One character suggests that Lapism hearkens back to ancient totemic faiths as well as embracing Transhumanism.

The Book of Peace explicitly rejects proselytization, on the grounds that the decision to convert must come from the individual, but almost immediately after Aaron/Sweetgrass' death Church leaders questioned how strictly this doctrine should be kept. The eventual decision, to the extent that the issue was settled, was that the Church would welcome media attention but avoid outright advertising, letting members' presence in the community serve as a recruitment tool.

==In context==
The overall setting of the Lapist stories is twenty-first century America. Its exact future history is not described in much detail, but includes the development of advanced gengineering technology and is not clearly utopian or dystopian. A noteworthy event that takes place early in the series is the schism of the Catholic Church into its Roman branch and a new American branch, which struggles to reconcile its faith with independence from the Vatican hierarchy.

==The unknown==
Some aspects of Lapism remain yet unknown through the stories. The legal battle over gengineering and the initial gathering of converts are not thoroughly described, and of Book of Peace itself only a few snippets are quoted by characters. The exact content of the Book is left to the reader's imagination, as is the setting's future.

==Bibilography==
Each Lapism story focuses on different aspects of the lives of individual believers and the people around them. These are the existing stories in the order written, with a mostly spoiler-free synopsis of each:

* '''[[Drama Class]]''': Two brothers deal with depression, suicide and gang violence. (published in ''[[Anthro]]'' <ref>[http://anthrozine.com/stry/drama.class.html Drama Class] from ''Anthro''</ref>)
* '''[[Intermission]]''': Described by Geusz as involving "a half-changed movie critic who's lost his wife and his reasons for living, and who goes home to find his roots."
* '''[[Schism]]''': The young movement faces a severe crisis after its founder's death. (published in ''[[TSAT]]'' <ref>[http://tsat.transform.to/stories/schism.html Schism] from ''TSAT''</ref>)
* '''[[Full Immersion]]''': A boy questions his faith while facing poverty, and danger, at a family-owned cave. (published in ''Anthro'' <ref>''[http://anthrozine.com/stry/full.immersion.html Full Immersion]'' from ''Anthro''</ref>)
* '''[[In the Beginning]]''': An expert gengineer creates the most heavily transformed human design yet, while battling despair and addiction. (published in ''Anthro'' <ref>''[http://anthrozine.com/stry/in.the.beginning.html In the Beginning]'' from ''Anthro''</ref>)

The chronological sequence is "In the Beginning" (Book of Peace unwritten) followed by "Schism" (Digger as toddler), "Drama Class," (Digger as teenager) and "Full Immersion" (Digger as young adult).

Geusz' "Freedom City" novel series also involves gengineered rabbit-folk. As the two continuities (FC and Lapism) have very little else in common, however, they should not be regarded as co-existing within any larger setting/world.
In fact, he often goes by the shortened form '''Logan'''.

Loganberry's [[fursona]] is a [[rabbit]], specifically the European Rabbit, ''Oryctolagus cuniculus''. His fur is grey-brown in colour, and he has blue eyes. Most commonly he uses a [[zoomorphic]] fursona, in the word's sense as the inverse of [[anthropomorphic]], and initially this was always the case, but recently he has also used an anthro version of the same character.

Loganberry found furry in 2003 as a result of his interest in ''[[Watership Down]]'', an interest which he had become serious about online in 2002 and which included writing an extension of the Lapine language used in the book. Indeed, his name itself is a nod towards ''Watership Down'', in which most buck rabbits are named after plants. He remains active in the ''WD'' fandom, maintaining a website about it as well as acting as a moderator for a Yahoo! Group on the subject.

In 2003, only a few weeks after becoming an active fur, Loganberry wrote an essay, ''Rabbiting On - a personal view of furry'', which attempted to explain furry as he saw it. He is by his own admission a poor [[furry artist]], and so does very little drawing, but he feels much more at home with the written word and enjoys writing both prose and poetry, as well as a modest amount of photography.
It has not been updated since 2001.
I haven't got a huge amount to say for myself beyond what's in my article. Anyone who's interested in me can follow the links from there; honestly, I do notice when somebody contacts me! =:P Suffice it to say that I avoided WikiFur for a while for a whole variety of reasons, but that once somebody started an article about me I felt that the lesser of two evils was to get involved myself and make that article halfway useful. Now that I ''am'' here as such, I expect I'll do bits and pieces of editing from time to time.

I suppose the one thing I might be considered "known" for in furry, albeit only on a low level, is my 2003 essay ''Rabbiting On'' (linked to from my article). Considering that I'd only been in furry for a short time when I wrote that, it does seem to have held up remarkably well, and I am rather proud of it. =:)

'''Loganberry''' (born 1975) is a [[Wikipedia:United Kingdom|British]] [[furry writer]]. His full furry name is '''Loganberry Brekytennion''', the second word being the [[Lapine (language)|Lapine]] translation of the first, but he rarely uses this.

Loganberry found furry in 2002 as a result of his interest in ''[[Watership Down]]'', which included writing an extension of the Lapine language used in the book. Indeed, his name itself is a nod towards ''Watership Down'', in which most buck rabbits are named after plants. He remains active in the ''WD'' fandom, maintaining a website about it as well as acting as a moderator for a Yahoo! Group on the subject.

In 2003 Loganberry wrote an essay, ''Rabbiting On - a personal view of furry'', which attempted to explain furry as he saw it. He is by his own admission a poor [[furry artist]], and so does very little drawing, but he feels much more at home with the written word and enjoys writing both prose and poetry.

Loganberry: /* Species confusion */ different genus yes, but cottontails are still rabbits

A '''rabbit''' (also known as "lapin" or "lapine" in French, "usagi" in Japanese) is a [[herbivore|herbivorous]] [[mammal]], physically characterised by long hindlegs, long ears, large front teeth, and a very short, fluffy tail, called a ''scut'' or ''bobtail''.

==Species confusion==

The rabbit is a very well-known animal, but similarities between different species often results in it being confused with other species. The archetypal rabbit is the European Rabbit (''Oryctolagus cuniculus''), which is brown-grey in colour. All domestic rabbits are descended from this species.

In America, European rabbits are often confused with cottontails, which look practically the same, but are a different genus.

The most common confusion is with [[hare]]s; which look like large rabbits. The two are not the same, but they tend to be lumped together.

==Rabbits in culture==

Rabbits are well known for being prolific breeders (as evidenced in the phrase 'breeding like rabbits'). For this reason, they are often used as a symbol of fertility. For the same reason, they are regarded as pests by farmers.

The rabbit is widely predated, and this role as a [[prey]] animal also lends it an air of innocence.

[[Anthropomorphic]] rabbits have often appeared in film and literature. For example, there is the White Rabbit in ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland;'' [[Roger Rabbit]] from ''Who Framed Roger Rabbit'', Warner Brothers' [[Bugs Bunny]] and many others.

== Bhunnies ==

A "bhunny" is an attractive female rabbit. The term is comparable to "[[vixen]]", but applied to a rabbit instead of a [[fox]]. The word is vocalized slowly and drawn out (''bhuuuuunny''), as if the lower jaw were numb and/or weighted down. The term is the result of a male character seeing an attractive doe rabbit character and being so distracted by the sight he is unable to say anything else.

Many associate the term with the characters [http://roomies.furry.com/roomies/cgi-bin/roomies.cgi?date=20010415 Rhonda] or her mother [http://roomies.furry.com/roomies/cgi-bin/roomies.cgi?date=20030210 RM] from the comic strip ''[[Roomies]]'', but it is unclear whether the term originated there.

==Popularity==

According to [[Pounced.org]], rabbits are the [[List of most popular phenotypes|9th most popular phenotype]].

Some popular culture examples are:

* [[Bugs Bunny]] from ''[[Wikipedia:Looney Toons|Looney Toons]]''
* [[Lola Bunny]] from ''Space Jam''
* Buster Bunny from ''[[wikipedia:Tiny Toon Adventures|Tiny Toons]]''.
Thanks for telling us a bit about yourself - [[Forum:Help desk|let us know]] if you need any [[help]] not already provided. :-) --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 02:12, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
== Need help putting up an article ==

I want to put up an essay that's under the GNU Free Docement Lisence, and I want to ask for a little bit of tips on how to do it before I actually do it. Or even how I'm suppose to do it. --[[User:Foxpaws-zupe|Foxpaws]] 00:52, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

:Could you be more specific about what you're trying to do? If you have a GFDL essay from another place, then in general it's fine to just copy it here into a new page as long as you give attribution for the people who wrote it (for example, with Wikipedia you would link to the history page) and preferably link back to the original source. Of course, it would have to fit the topic of the wiki, and be neutral in tone. If it was not neutral (whether or not you wrote it), you should probably avoid putting it in the main namespage - it should go a subpage of your User: space - e.g [[User:Foxpaws-zupe/Article name]] - and it should have a note up at the top similar to that of the [[:Template:personal-article|personal article template]]. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 04:22, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

::I believe the piece in question is my own ''Rabbiting On'' [http://www.loganberry.furtopia.org/essays/rabbitingon.html], which I note (with some surprise) is now linked to from the [[Furry]] article's "Resources" section. Foxpaws-zupe is correct that ''RO'' is GFDL-licensed, but I would certainly not claim it to be a neutral bit of writing; it's quite opinionated in places.
'''Lapine''' was a [[rabbit]] language created by [[wikipedia:Richard_Adams_(author)|Richard Adams]] for his novel ''[[Watership Down]]''.

Adams created the language in 1972, based on his experience with the [[wikipedia:Arabic|Arabic]] tongue, and many of the words are uniquely adapted to the lapine existance.

For example, ''silflay'' is a verb which means 'to go above ground to eat', and ''tharn'' is an adjective which means 'hypnotized with fear'. The word ''flayrah'' is defined as 'unusually good food, such as lettuce' and is the source of the name of the furry news site [[Flayrah.com]].

Many [[furs]] have taken names for themselves or characters based on the intricacy (and pseudo-furry nature) of this [[wikipedia:Constructed_language|constructed language]].
