Further Confusion
Further Confusion (or FurCon, sometimes FURther CONfusion) is an annual convention celebrating the anthropomorphics genre or furry fandom. It is the 2nd largest such convention in the world and takes place in the Bay Area of California each January. It includes charitable benefits, educational seminars, art shows, panels, and general social activities. It was the first event sponsored by Anthropomorphic Arts and Education, Inc. (FurCon is its registered service mark) and continues to be its largest. It will next be held January 21 - 25, 2010, at the Fairmont San Jose hotel in downtown San Jose.

Further Confusion has the largest art show of any convention in the fandom with sales routinely exceeding US$50,000. Indeed, one piece alone (Eyes of the Night by Goldenwolf) went for $10,000 at Further Confusion 2004, the result of a close, fierce bid battle between Flint Otterhall and a local appreciator of furry art.

Significant events of Further Confusion include an Iron Artist competition, the original Critterlympics and an in-house Television station (FCTV) that broadcasts during the convention.

Darkenwolf is a purebred Wolf with some Cat and Fox-like tendencies.

Biography
Darkenwolf (Dark for short), an avid video gamer, discovered furry art in 2003, when his first fursona image was drawn by Angela Rosquin. Since then, several overhauls of his character have occurred with changes of coloring and outfit. He has been, among other things, a martial artist, a mafia hitman, a jungle explorer, and a suave secret agent.

Dark has always had appreciation for anthropomorphic art and it is what drives him to continue to express his fur. Currently, Darkenwolf is working hard to commission a fursuit for his character, where he will finally have to decide what exactly he looks like.

As of March 2008 Dark is mated to Kader the wolf. Dark lives in Sacramento working at The California State Library in the IT Department. He enjoys playing Dance Dance Revolution and other music/video games.

Dark attended Further Confusion 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Califur 2006 and 2007, Anthrocon 2006, and RainFurrest 2007 and 2008; at RainFurrest 2007 he was the Black Ops Gofur & DDR Tournament Co-lead.

The Prancing Skiltaire

2009-05-17T03:56:32Z

Kayfox:

LinkingSupporter

The Prancing Skiltaire is the given name of a private residence in Garden Grove, Orange County, California, owned by Mark Merlino. It is host to a group of furries that share their common interests in the furry fandom, and also have been host to a variety of public events in the past years: annual holiday get-togethers, ConFurence and Califur staff meetings, filking concerts, and more recently, has taken over the previous role of monthly parties that were hosted by the wildly popular Rick's Café Terrestrienne, which were just located a few blocks east until Rick and Tess Calhoun moved to state of Washington, USA in mid 2005.

House party
Guests of the monthly house party are asked to provide their own food and munchies. A barbecue is available in the backyard.
Parties are usually held on the second Saturday of each month, but consult the schedule for special parties (e.g. New Year's, Halloween, Fourth of July, etc) or changes of plans.

History
The name of the house was modeled after traditional Old English tradition: e.g. "Red Lion Inn", "The Boar's Head", etc. which signifies a place of abode and commune to weary travelers. Skiltaire are a species created by Mark for a personally-made RPG.

The five-bedroom house is known for its primarily furry-themed decor. Most of the walls and shelving space is decked out with original and re-created animation cels of past furry movies, Japanese and Chinese manga, original artwork by various furry artists, an extensive collection of DVDs, CDs, music, and offbeat movies, a large collection of plushies, memorabilia, collectibles, statuettes, etc.

Tiger's Den BBS
Date of Operation: 1983-1996

Not to be confused with Tigerden Internet Services, Tiger's Den BBS was a furry-themed bulletin board service in the mid-to-late 80's before the popularization of the Internet. The servers were located in the far east wing of the house. As a result of this and Mark's professional skills as a networking engineer, the house was rigged with a more-than-adequate Ethernet network, which was ahead of its time for a personal residence before the popularization of residential LANs.

Firstlight Internet Services
The Skiltaire also has a history with Firstlight Internet Services. Firstlight was/is a full-service ISP, once primarily based out of Orange County. Neil Whelchel, its owner, was a long-time resident at the house, and consequently, partners in maintaining the communication networks provided at ConFurence, along with Tigerden Internet Services. Many of the residents of the house were given complimentary web space and email addresses, some of which are still in use today. The ISP was also host of The Pride Lands MUCK, an offshoot of The Lion King MUCK.

The name Firstlight was chosen for the area of TLK MUCK which hosted the Firstlight Pride, for its positioning on the far-eastern borders of the muck; it being the first light of day. The Pride was composed of many various species of animal; something which the staff of TLK MUCK objected to. The idea of, say, a honey badger being mated to a lioness seemed a horribly taboo idea for many of the players and thus they were subject of regular complaints to the administration. The members of the pride decided to create their own Lion King themed MUCK, and thus The Pride Lands MUCK was born.

Politics
Many rumors surround the house as to the social circumstances of its occupants. These rumors have deterred potential guests from attending past events held at the house. Many of these rumors are just that: rumors. The house is host to many furries and has been, in the past, commune for those furs either displaced from their homes and given residence for rent or exchange of apprenticeship in Mark's network communication company, Lantana, Ltd. The house's occupants are friendly and open to visitors. Like any other house, it has met its trials and tribulations. If anything, the house has been a service to the furry community, and continues to be so to this day.

Despite the opinion of the WikiFur editors he does program: PHP scripts, embedded micro controller firmware, test scripts and some random DOS/Windows programs for little stuff.

He is a staff member of Califur and RainFurrest and hopes to help out at Further Confusion. In general he can be found helping out with technical things in Engineering, with the stage crew or working on Operations. To help out with these conventions, he has applied for and gotten a professional land mobile radio license from the FCC.

His electronic projects include packet radio and APRS related stuff, as well as some embedded controller work.

Well, here, let's talk about me for a sec.

While I appreciate the little steps to correct strictly necessary format and link issues (the 'contributor' block needed moving but I kept forgetting to do so, and 'Convention staff' really did seem a goofy category) I'm not so sure about your more vague taste-based changes, especially given the errors in them. If you have specific comments about confusing wording, that's one thing, but I'd like to ask you to refrain from style imposition otherwise.

Now... what precisely do you intend by the notion of 'paragraphs rather than bullet points'?

Anyhow, I'll hold off reverting things until we have this hashed out.

Mermaid
I was about to make a species page "Mermaid" and I saw the message that it had been created and deleted already. In the deletion log, you say that it is not furry. They are in the furcode. I know four furs that are also mermaids or mermen, including my character Dylan Addison. I have swam at RCFM and MFM as Dylan along with Nova Sunami, a furry mermaid, and Peke, Santa Fox's penguin character. The current featured article, "Greek mythology," mentions centaurs, satyrs, and fauns which are also half human. I would like to know the reasoning behind excluding mermaids and mermen. == ~7~CyanFOX~7~ ==

Hey Sine, if you feel like incorrectly cleaning up my page that's fine but just because everyone else lazily and incorrectly shortens my name to CyanFOX without the pre and postfix ~7~'s does not mean that's my name... ~7~CyanFOX~7~ 23:44, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

maybe i should redirect Sin to this article because it's easier to type that too? http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/User:%7E7%7ECyanFOX%7E7%7E was how if you even bothered to check my diff on my article how it originally read that was "too autistic" for most of you so people kindly decided to clean my article up :3 which i was very grateful for. notwithstanding, however, people take liberty as to how to actually spell my name; see, it's too difficult to copy and paste my name verbatim with the ~7~'s so it's usually and coincidentally for that matter incorrectly ( lazily ) shortened to CyanFOX... but why if that really was my name do i EVEN HAVE THE BLOODY ~7~'s to begin with? because they are a non-ascii character represented in ascii it's on my legal drivers license and my legal signature it's very old: from many many many years before i even took the name ``CyanFOX as many of you enjoy to shorten my name to... It has to deal with who i Was before I came into the fandom; it has to deal with my spirituality; and it also has to deal with providing me with a symbol that I can use as my "Initials" when I'm asked to "Initial here!" I don't wish for this to sound as derrogatory or dimminutive towards you... It just irritates me that you felt the need to implement an incorrect redirect to a name that IS NOT FORMALLY ENDORSED by me and if you only did simple research ( if you bothered to check out my user talk page or diff back to the original article in which I personally penned ) you'd have realized that I mastered the copy / paste and actually refer to myself as ~7~CyanFOX~7~ throughout the entire article... Imagine that... ~7~CyanFOX~7~ 00:08, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Zephyr Panthur
Hi Sine,
I was wondering about the requests for cites you placed in the article on Zephyr Panthur, about his species and the documentary he saw. As the original article appears to have been written by the subject himself, is there any particular reason to doubt his word? If a cite is still needed regarding his species, the fursuit database entry for his 2nd fursuit lists him as "fox, lynx". --Higgs Raccoon 07:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
:As suggested by adding the tags, I'd like to know where the fursona description came from--the character in the image (and in other images, from a short look at the person's website) looks like a Red Fox to me, no obvious Lynx parts let along Fennec, and as for the reference to a documentary... if there's a documentary about Hitler with anthropomorphic art, I'd like to know about it if only to start an article on same! -- Sine 19:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Rainfurrest.com (and thus the redirecting to that from Rainfurrest.org) isn't connecting. A whois for rainfurrest.com lists three name servers, all on furcen.org. -- Sine 20:00, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

:It's connecting now. Note the announcement on their front page:
:June 13, 2007:
:Technical Difficulties. Due to a resignation by our web host we are currently expereinceing some technical difficulties that resolve from the switchover to a new host. These difficulties should be resolved soon and all will hopefully be well. Please update your links as nessisary.

:P.S. We would like to sqaush the nasty rumor that is going around. Our previous web host did NOT format the drive of the webserver, instead he meerly shut down the server and we are unable to access it or any of the data on it.

:Evidently Jurann, who is no longer affiliated with the convention, no longer provides web services for them, either.----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 20:35, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

:: So, Jurann basically shut down their website with no notice after parting ways with them? Wow, that's mature and professional. --Douglas Muth 20:39, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

::: Actually they've had months of warning, and took initial precautions, the issue is with the execution of the transfer and is not due to any un-professionalism or immaturity on my part. All of the necessary actions have been taken to transition the domain, site and database to their new web host. You seem to speak as if you know me, though, care to explain that? Jurann 23:48, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

::::The comment has no pretense of knowing you, rather it was a commentary on the action itself, not the person behind it.--Kendricks Redtail

:::: Prior to us requesting that Jurann step down as artshow lead, I had decided it be prudent to have a secondary server and have backups made. After asking Jurann to step down as Artshow lead Jurann decided to simply shut down the webserver without any prior notice at all. The DNS entries could have easily been changed so that no downtime would have happened. The fact that rainfurrest.net was up and running within hours was only by determiniation and skill from our new webmasters. After the new server was up and running a domain transfer was arranged and is now finalized. It would have been very easy for Jurann to choose to change the DNS names so that no downtime happened what-so-ever. He simply choose not to. An August 20, 2007 news post to the RainFurrest website noted "The pre-reg numbers are now looking that we will have somewhere between 180 and 450 people showing up." (Which strikes me as an amusingly wide range.) I hope that definite numbers will appear soon. In the meantime, a LiveJournal post today by foxmajik states that "Rainfurrest had a patronage of over 300". -- Sine 02:54, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

:About 350 people have attended so far. Kayfox 18:45, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
