[[Image:SecondLife.png|right|Second Life]]
'''Second Life''' is a online [[Wikipedia:Virtual world|virtual world]] consisting of hundreds of interconnected large-scale areas populated by interactive [[Wikipedia:avatar|avatars]], whose players may choose to take any form they can create (or purchase). The major form of short-distance transportation is flight, while transportation between areas is typically performed through teleportation; both abilities are innate.

The system is funded through a combination of account subscriptions and "tier" ([[Wikipedia:Land value tax|land value tax]]). Users have the option to own or rent land parcels in a variety of sizes - as in [[real life]], some owners may zone their land to restrict certain activities, such as commercial development. The "main grid" is restricted to those 18 or over, as regions may contain strong violence or sexual content. A teen version for those 13 to 17 is also available.

The [[furry fandom]] has a major presence in Second Life, with multiple areas devoted to providing accommodation, entertainment and creative services specifically for members of the furry community. Themes range from the pedestrian to the bizarre, although trees are common in furry haunts. Each user can create their own objects from the inbuilt primitives, but the majority of users rely in part on objects created and sold using the in-game currency by others. These include body parts for avatars, accessories, vehicles (which may be purely aesthetic or provide extra functionality), toys, [[pose ball]]s for avatar animation, and scripts to provide extra features (like "push" and "shield" defensive/offensive capabilities).

== Outline ==
[[Image:SecondLifeCarrot.png|right|thumb|150px|Second Life lets you create your own objects]]
Second Life was started in 2003 as a project by ''Linden Lab'', now officially known as ''[[Wikipedia:Linden Resarch|Linden Research]]''. Second Life's primary attraction has always been the level of customization; from the ground under your feet to the clouds in the sky. This was quite literal since the game's developers intended for the user to be able to create the world to their desire, as is quoted in the Second Life overview on its site:

:''"Second Life is a virtual world - a 3D online persistent space totally created and evolved by its users. Within this vast and rapidly expanding place, you can do, create or become just about anything you can imagine. Built-in content creation tools let you make almost anything you can imagine, in real time and in collaboration with others."''

Second Life is considered by some to be a variant of the ''Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game'', or ''[[Wikipedia:MMORPG|MMORPG]]'' for short. The true answer to the question "is it such a game?" is "yes and no" - Second Life is technically not a [[role-playing|role-playing game]] by itself. Rather, it is a platform that allows games and worlds to be built within its framework. It is better classified as a richly graphical multiple user chat kingdom ([[MUCK]]) rather than an MMORPG. Some go so far as to just call it a [[Wikipedia:Metaverse|metaverse]], which isn't that far of a stretch.

Second Life has become one of the popular forms of online entertainment for members of the furry fandom; at last count there were over 500 furries registered as Second Life users, and the true number is probably several times that by now. This arose out of the fact that the avatars, humanoid objects representing the user, are very customizable and the game's disposition for allowing users to create anything has made the concept of a virtual "[[fursuit]]" possible. These consist of a variety body parts which are attached to the user's avatar. These parts include [[tail]]s, [[wing]]s, legs, and so on - some have even made complete sets that resemble mythical beasts such as [[dragon]]s, complete with scripted flame effects. Such avatar addons can be sold by their creators, who retain the ability to control distribution of their objects as part of their copyright, enforced by inbuilt copy restrictions. Some choose to give works away for free, for apparently [[Wikipedia:altruism|altruistic]] or promotional purposes.

Membership requires a credit card (or SMS-able cellphone) for security reasons, and Second Life's world has mixed content ratings from PG to Mature. It is wise to be aware of this mixed rating, as each section of the game is rated as one or the other and people going into the Mature areas should be aware of the risks well beforehand.

The high interactivity is also a plus for online social networks - as a result, various [[furry]] communities began to pop up in the game and are now a sizable force in the virtual world. In the October 2005 issue of ''[[Wikipedia:Computer Games Magazine|Computer Games]]'', "Furries" (used as a proper noun) were noted as a major userbase in Second Life in an article about the use of MMOs for self-actualization.<ref>Liu, Johnny. "Waking Dreams." ''[[Wikipedia:Computer Games Magazine|Computer Games]]'', October 2005; pp. 58-59</ref>

Although signing up for a new account requires a credit card or an SMS-capable cell phone, current members have the option of changing their billing information in the members area so their membership fees can be deducted through [[Wikipedia:PayPal|PayPal]].''

== Age policy ==
[[Image:Censor NC17.png|right]]
Even though Second Life requires a credit card (for age verification and security purposes), there is no way to tell inside the game how old someone really is. The game's Terms of Service state quite clearly you must be over the age of 18 to enter the "main grid" of Second Life. If anyone is found to be under 18 in the main grid, they will be banned from the game and all money and inventory will be forfeit. It is generally assumed that almost all players in the main grid are over the age of 18.

Second Life rates the individual sections of the game as Mature, or PG, with other possible ratings. These ratings help moderate the behaviour of people that populate the various sections of the game, as they won't tolerate someone breaking the PG rating by performing a Mature-rated act in a PG-rated zone. The rating system is not in place to keep children out of areas in SL; it is there because many adults don't want to be exposed to adult material during their time in the game or to take a break from it for a time by visiting a PG sim. [[Luskwood]] is a prime example of a furry PG sim, safe from displays of naked [[hermaphrodite]]s with a huge [[phallus]] and even bigger [[breasts]] parading around as one might see in a mature furry sim like [[FurNation Worlds]] (technically they are not supposed to be visable from a casual flyover).

=== Teen Grid ===
[[image:Censor 14.png|right]]
Late in 2005, Second Life created a separate version of its game designed with teens in mind. This separate grid is still relatively new; however, it is known that it uses modified software to differentiate teen users from adult users, sending them to a different server grid, and not allowing normal SL users to interact with the teen world users (and vice versa). This version has different rating policies than the normal version; being made for teenagers, the world ratings are typically and may not exceed the general PG14 to PG17 rating spans.

== Environment and Economy ==

=== Costs and land ownership ===

Second Life is now free to sign up if you have never attempted to sign up and play before. Otherwise, a basic account will be a once-off fee of US$9.95, which may be paid with a credit card, or a positive [[Wikipedia:PayPal|PayPal]] balance.

Premium accounts come at a rate of US$9.95 each month, with options to pay quarterly or annually -- $22.50, and $72, respectively. The premium accounts come with the privilege of owning 512 square meters of land (approximately 1/256 of 1 simulator, or "not much"). The ability to acquire additional amounts of land bring an additional charge, called ''land tier''.

* US$195.00/month: 65,536 square meters - Entire Region
* US$125.00/month: 32,768 square meters - 1/2 Region
* US$75.00/month: 16,384 square meters - 1/4 Region
* US$40.00/month: 8,192 square meters - 1/8 Region
* US$25.00/month: 4,096 square meters - 1/16 Region
* US$15.00/month: 2,048 square meters - 1/32 Region
* US$8.00/month: 1,024 square meters - 1/64 Region
* US$5.00/month: 512 square meters - 1/128 Region

These are the official Linden rates - it is possible to find island owners (see below) who will sell or rent land for lower rates, usually with some restrictions as to its use. It is also possible to get low-cost rented accommodation with no specific land ownership, and to own land without a premium account through a "group" to which the land is deeded. Many users own no land or accommodation at all - it is not required for object ownership, although object creation can be another matter.

Land, once purchased, may be traded between users at market rates. Large contiguous plots of land (or even relatively small plots of land in a busy place) can often sell at a hefty premium. Linden's tier remains the same whatever the selling price.

=== Referrals ===

Each user who joins Second Life gets an unique referral link. Giving this link to people who have yet to sign up, and getting them to do so used to credit the user with a certain amount of Linden Dollars -- the in-world currency. Since late January 2006, only premium account signups will result in a bonus, of L$2500, staggered over a three month period, where you get L$500 on the spot, another L$500 after one month, another L$500 after two months, and the final L$1000 after three months, to prevent gaming of the premium account referral bonus.

=== Currency ===

Users can buy or sell their Linden Dollars (L$) from within the game using the Lindex money market run by Linden Research. There are also third-party exchange services.

Exchanges can be performed with any number of Linden Dollars. The Lindex calculator will give you an idea of what you'll be receiving as a result of your sale. The amount that you receive as a result of your sale gets placed into your account, where you may have it applied to anything you owe for your account if you are a premium user, or may have it sent to you via PayPal for a US$1 charge. For larger amounts, you may also have a check mailed to you for a fee - US$5 if you're inside the United States, or US$15 for locations outside of the United States.

There are some furs who extract do this with the earnings from their businesses (custom avatar creation, generic avatar vending, etc.), turning it into profit that allows them to do whatever they want to pay for, up to, and including starting their own islands. Historically-speaking, the L$ is a relatively volatile currency prone to bouts of inflation. It can therefore be a good idea to remove any significant sums from the game, unless they are to be spent quickly in-game.

== Islands and other locations ==
[[island (Second Life)|Islands]] are user-owned simulators within Second Life. You can buy your own island but the price to play is pretty steep: $1250 for start up costs and a server (you don't own the server itself though and due to multiple CPU servers, you are effectively buying space on a single CPU for your island), as well as $195 a month tier. Islands, as opposed to the mainland, get a dedicated processor to run on. Mainland sims (regions) may have to share resources with up to 3 other neighboring regions. An additional benefit is that purchasing an island allows you to contact the Linden Concierge directly with questions, bypassing the standard technical support lines and forums.

Prior to the creation of islands, every simulator belonged to a large land mass. Regions of these simulators sometimes ended up dedicated to specific groups, including the furry fandom.

There are currently a number of furry-owned or themed islands and regions in Second Life:

;[[Luskwood]]
[[Image:Luskwoodlobby.jpg|thumb|200px|The Lobby at Luskwood, the primary hangout for many]]
* Luskwood consists of two sims/regions, '''Lusk''' and '''Perry''', with some elements spilling into '''Clara'''; PG-rated, though not heavy on rules, Luskwood (started in mid-2003) is the oldest Furry-themed area in SL. Though not an island in practice (it resides on the SL mainland) these regions are wholly owned by the Luskwood group, and can be considered its own furry-themed area. It is home to [[Luskwood Creatures]] the first Furry avatar makers on SL. Luskwood builds many varieties of furry avatars, and is considered a sister-sim to, and administered by some of the same folks who run Taco.
:{{see also|Luskwood}}
; [[Taco]]
* Currently owned and run by [[Arito Cotton]] of Luskwood fame.
* This sim currently has a ''Mature'' rating label, though it is asked that you keep the blatantly mature items far, far away from ground level.
* This sim has a slightly cartoony feel to it, and is the home of [[Dwellget]], a department store that heavily parodies the USA based retail store chain, [[Wikipedia:Target|Target]].

; [[FurNation Worlds]]
[[Image:FurNationWorldsLuxor.png|right|thumb|200px|The Luxor on FurNation Prime]]
* FurNation Worlds is a group of seven simulators ('''Prime''', '''Alpha''', '''Vista''', '''Aqua''', '''Reia''', '''Omega''', and '''Kitsune''') run by the crew at [[FurNation]].
* Each of their simulators seems to serve a particular purpose.
** Alpha appears to be the residential area;
** Vista and Omega appear to be sandbox areas;
** Prime is the welcome area and hub for everything in the area.
**There was a seventh (private) sim attached to the south of FNW, '''Asteria Prime''', which is not related in any way to it.
*On April 5, 2006, '''Asteria Prime''' moved to the Fox Valley's sim conglomerate, followed by former FN sim '''Tria''' on April 7, becoming "Masquerade Valley" on the process.
*On May, 2006, '''Kitsune''' (formerly '''Kitsune valley''', from the Fox Valley's sim conglomerate) moved in, along with '''Aqua''', which took '''Tria''''s spot.
:{{see also|FurNation Worlds}}

; [[The Forest]]
[[Image:SecondLifeForestDeluxeApartments.png|right|thumb|200px|Treehouse apartments in The Forest]]
* The Forest was the first Furry oriented island in Second Life.
* This sim had an abundance of trees, but towards the end of [[Spade Richlieu]]'s management, trees were a bit too bare in many spots to really own up to its name.
* This sim suffered from severe lag issues in the beginning, as it was a prime hangout to many furs, which led to the island being full at peak times. This distinction was taken later on by the FurNation Worlds.
* [[Sibe]] was banned from this simulator for reasons unknown; this made big news within the furry circles of Second Life, and it wasn't long before many wanted to know why. This ban has long since been repealed, probably during Anshe's acquisition.
* In its first months, The Forest it earned at least one dwell award (money previously given to people who rake in the most dwell - or ''butt hours'' - each month by Linden Research). The entire island earned one of the awards for January 2005, which offset the first month's island fee by about half in this case.
* The Forest eventually came under [[Anshe Chung]]'s ownership. She soon added '''Tiger Creek''' to the south of The Forest as a residential area for furs to purchase or rent land. In March 2006 a second residential island was added, '''Bunny Bay'''. Revenues from Tiger Creek and Bunny Bay go towards paying for The Forest's tier.
* The Forest, Tiger Creek and Bunny Bay are part of what many call '''AnsheLand''' (mostly out of dislike for its owner - its proper name is actually '''Dreamland'''), a chunk of 55 linked islands located west-north-west of the North Continent of the main Grid.
* As of late May 2006, The Forest has suffered a crisis of administration. Disagreements between Anshe and the Forest Guides led to the replacement of the latter with a set of Dreamland administrators. Meanwhile, the Guides removed all their content, including the vast majority of the trees.
:{{see also|The Forest}}

; [[Fox Valley]]
* Sometimes know as '''The Valleys''', this sim is furry residential world run by [[RedFox Costello]] as an alternative to The Forest and Tiger Creek.
* The single island is located in the island cloud, southwest of Anshe Chung's ''Dreamland'', northwest of Furnation Worlds.
* Fox Valley was founded in November 2005, making it the youngest of the furry islands. Since then it has grown, with additional islands named '''Wolf Valley''' and '''Tiger Valley''' (run by [[Kithylin Perth]]), as well as '''Rabbit Valley''' (run by [[Effsey Nelson]]. This sim is also home to The Valleys' community airport, the [[Flyintails Airfield]], plus [[Dragon Valley]], [[Masquerade Valley]] (formerly [[Furnation Tria]]) [[Ryu Valley]] and [[Isteria Prime]]. Two former sims moved out in May 2006, '''Kitsune Valley''' and '''Fae Valley''' (run by [[Alynna Vixen]]).
:{{see also|Fox Valley}}

; [[Rainbow Tiger]]
* Originally a dance club owned by [[Spike Nico]] and an adjoining mall owned by [[Shadow Garden]] in the '''Cleary''' region, Rainbow Tiger has expanded onto a full island. Rainbow Tiger currently has: [[Club Rainbow Tiger]], a large dance club with live DJ's spinning tunes regularly as well as a large 3 story mall, swimming pool, events center, casino, and an exercise room. It is also the primary retail location for OrcaHorse, owned by [[Fore Odets]]. Rainbow Tiger has been awarded Developer's Incentive awards twice by Linden Lab since its creation. A second island named [[Rainbow Stallion]] was added at the end of March 2006, and is being developed as a residential area. Both sims are rated 'mature', and are open to all species.
:{{see also|Rainbow Tiger}}

; [[Tartarus Island]]
* The new home of [[The Fur Dungeon]], a club that once existed on the mainland. Underwater dungeon areas and an array of domes (including, presently, a mall and movie dome) complement the club itself. Created by [[Musuko Massiel]].

; [[The Wild (Second Life)|The Wild]]
* Furry [[Wikipedia:Myst|Myst]] themed island owned by [[Shaun Wallaby]].

; [[Cub Conclave]]
[[Image:CubConclaveFlagpole.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Cub Conclave's flags fly proud]]
* An island for [[babyfur]]s. Features a castle, a mini mall, a marina, a bathhouse, a spaceship and [[Club Softpaws]] among other things. Founded and owned by [[Raven Welesa]]
:{{see also|Cub Conclave}}

; [[Prometheus]]
* Mature-rated furry-themed island sim run by [[Sabvriel Padar]]. Mostly residential, with several houses nestled amid beautiful landscaping and apartments for rent up in the sky. Also hosts a small shop for vendors, and [[Club Synergy]].

; [[Coonspiracy]]
* Southwest corner of Noonkkot sim, a hangout for raccoons, gators, swamp foxes, and the like.

; [[Meeting Island]]
* Mature-rated furry-themed island sim run by [[Pounce Teasle]]. [[Raccoon Hill]] (Former sim [[Fae Valley]] from the Fox Valley's sim conglomerate) was added in May, 2006. '''Meeting Island''' is best known for the furry [[escort]] establishment, [[The Seven Tails Brothel]].

Collecting donations for Island upkeep fees is a popular activity on islands, furry or otherwise.

== "Second Life Furry" logo ==
[[Image:Slfur.png|right|100px]]
In (early 2006?), a "furry admin" meeting for all furry and/or furry-friendly sims' administrators or owners was held to discuss several unifying strategies regarding the fandom population in world ([[Inferniel Solvang]] was the lead fur for this particular enconter.) Of the many proposals, one was the creation of a common, official symbol or logo for identifying purposes for sim or fur.

The final design, a SL logo inspired image, came to be thanks to the design of SL [[furry artist]], [[Yiffy Yaffle]]. The logo can be viewed on most of the older furry sims, with propagation to newer ones going at a slow, but steady rate.

== Video ==
[[Image:SecondLifeFundayPawPetShow.png|right|thumb|200px|Furs watching the Funday PawPet Show in Second Life]]
As of version 1.6.0, Second Life now hooks [[Wikipedia:Quicktime|Quicktime]], if it is installed on the user's system, to provide an interface that allows one to watch movies within the client itself. A '''very''' fast connection is suggested in this case, as you will be streaming world data ''and'' a video at the same time. If Quicktime is not installed, the user will be reminded that Quicktime is needed to watch video within the client when they enter a parcel with video.

A number of furs use the video feature to watch the [[Funday PawPet Show]] on their land.

Some users have taken advantage of this new feature to bring forward a new business: Movie Rentals. One may rent adult movies from a couple of the businesses in Second Life, for the express purpose of being able to watch pornography on their land for a couple of hours.

== Preview Grid ==
As Linden Lab draws closer to a potential release, be it a sub-version upgrade, or a full point-release jump, they release preview versions of the client, to allow all interested parties to test the new client and its features. This is extremely important to builders, scripters, and texturers, as knowing how the new software will handle their works is very important.

The Preview client is run on a separate grid from the current client, which means there are less people to interact with. Most of the people available test their wares, making sure they won't have to do a full rebuild or rescript for the next version, as well as reporting bugs.

== Technical advice ==

Due to the amount of data that is sent between the client (you) and the servers, Second Life requires broadband internet of 1Mbps or better, at least 512MB of computer RAM, and a CPU faster than 800MHz, though the bare minimum will not be as pleasant an experience. Linden Lab suggests that you invest in hardware that will exceed the minimum specs. There are also specific graphics card requirements due to the game making use of a certain OpenGL standard. The system requirements for interested people is listed at the Second Life website partially, and more exact requirements can be found inside its technical support area.

Although it is not impossible to use a dial-up connection with Second Life, nearly every option of the game requires serious cutting back to close to the bare minimum . This makes the experience flatter and less pleasant, with lag so heavy that movement is difficult and awkward with occasional stop-frame style "clipping" animation. Walking forward one step, for example, might occasionally result in sliding forward more then a yard or two before being snapped back to your intended position in a rather sudden jerk, or scenery change. Sometimes, said movement could make you sink through the ground or pass through other objects (like a wall) before the snap-back occurs. There aren't many users on SL who use dial-up.

For quite a while, Second Life has been dealing with issues over ATi's video card drivers. It had become practice on the forums to suggest to ATi users to pick up [http://www.omegadrivers.net/ Omega Drivers], a set of user-modified drivers recognized by ATi (according to their author) as "''the best-modded drivers in the Internet''". These Omega Drivers enable features that Second Life can use which aren't easily enabled in the default drivers.
That's a tricky question, because everyone has a different answer.
* Still more equate it with a style of [[anthropomorphic]] [[:Category:Arts and Crafts|artwork]]
* Others think that furry is a [[furry lifestyle|way of life]]
* Some believe in various forms of furry [[spirituality]] (and, just like mainstream religions, some are faking it)
* People more familiar with Japanese CG art might equate furry with [[kemono]]
* People who've just read the [[Vanity Fair]] article or watched ''[[CSI]]'' may think that a furry is an overweight middle-aged guy with a [[bestiality]] [[:Category:Fetishes|fetish]] and a habit of dressing up in [[fursuit]]s and "getting it on" with poor, defenseless [[plush toy|plushie]]s, though they might recognize that as somewhat of an exaggerated stereotype.
It was edited in 1999 by Trident inc, [[Wikipedia:Atlas Games (company)|Atlas Games]] and illustrated by [[Terrie Smith]]. It has been written by Furries, for Furries.

Furry Pirates is set in the Furry version of the [[Wikipedia:Piracy in the Caribbean|Golden Age of Piracy]] (1690-1720). The action takes place on the high seas in wooden sailing ships. The new world of the Caribbean sea, each nationality fighting for a part of the treasure.

The world of Furry Pirates is inhabited by intelligent [[anthropomorphic|anthropomorphized]] animals known as Furries who possess human characteristics such as opposing thumbs, erect postures, use of tools, and so forth. Furries in Furry Pirates evolved from various species of animal, just as man in the real world evolved from lower primates. Just as there are still primates in the real world, there are still ordinary animals in the Furry world.

In Furry Pirates, you can play various species: Avian, Canines, Chiroptera, Felines, Lapines, Marsupials, Mustelidae, Prosimians, Reptiles, Rodentia, Ungulates, Ursoids. Each [[species]] has different abilities. For example, little avians can fly, ursoids can be strong and heavy, etc... Various popular professions can be chosen for your character: Fighter, Sorcerer, Gunner, Sailor, Alchemist, Thief, Hunter, Craftsman and Scholar. Yes, there are magicks in Furry Pirates.
It was pointed out to me on the chat, and I have to agree, that this article seems to of had its NPOV distorted some what since its original staring as a featured article. Possibly over time and with just little micro-edits the article seems to of turned in to something which seems to get an almost daily blanking. In concentrating on the Furry related events to SA, the article appears biased. I think if we reworded and reworked the article to list a few more of the general non-furry related positive things (I'm sure there are some ;) ) it might make people less prone to wipe it even if it goes a little out of our normal subject remit. Thoughts anyone? --[[User:Nidonocu|Nidonocu]] - [[User talk:Nidonocu|talk]] [[Image:Trans 168.png|16px|Nidonocu]] 16:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
:General non-furry related positive things? There was the (attempted) Hurricane Katrina relief fund - $30,000 before PayPal hijacked the charity. $22,000 for body armor sent to US troops in Iraq. $6,000 for children with terminal illnesses. Those are the big ones with dollar values attached. Most of the NPOV-diversion is probably due to committed journaling of groups and individuals with no official connection to SA - terminally unfunny SALJers and other mouthbreathers who think taunting the furries is their ticket to e-stardom in the SA Forums. Not every catchphrase screaming attentionwhore with :10bux: is a member of SA community. --[[User:ShrikeWolf|the Shrike]] 19:38, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
== Problems with variable/value inheritance ==

I can't seem to get any pages to inherit the 'bot' state from their parent (that is, the page they were linked from). The reason could lie within the fact that the pages linked from it are given in this format: '/wiki/pagetitle' rather than this one: '/index.php?title=pagetitle', and from what I gather the 'bot mode' only works if the URL is shown in the latter format (I guess this has to do with PHP-applets and stuff, which I honestly don't have a clue how works :).
:Hi Threyon. I did some research on this, and it appears that Wikicities maintains a [http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Spam_Blacklist Spam Blacklist], which I am guessing you may have run afoul of. Check the list and see if your site is listed there; if it is, leave a comment at [http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Talk:Spam_Blacklist Talk:Spam Blacklist] to request and justify removal from the list. If your domain is not on that list, let us know (perhaps write it out like "www dot notreallyspam dot com"?) and we'll see if we can figure out what's causing the problem. --[[User:DuncanDaHusky|Duncan da Husky]] 16:46, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
== Problems with variable/value inheritance ==

Does anyone know of a solution for this? --[[User:MKerris|MKerris]] 18:21, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Greetings. My name is ''[removed]''. I see there is an entry in your database under my name. I wish to have it deleted and blocked from further edits/additions. I am a very private individual in real life and do not wish a connection between my RL identity and that of my fandom avatars. Please help me out. Thank you.
== Page creation ==

Alright... I've looked up and down and all over this thing and cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to simply make a brand new article. Specfically a character article in the "(species) Character" section. I know how to make a new article in Wikipedia, but this thing is baffling me! Help?

:There are various ways:
* Link to the article from another article, then click the red link (do it in a preview or in the sandbox if you don't want the link to last)
* Search for an article and click the red link when it doesn't come up
* Type it directly into the URL box and go to that page, then click edit
:How did you do it on Wikipedia? --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 00:09, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
::I would note a nifty feature that was in the [http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Archived_Wikia_news_box_messages Wikicities/Wikia News Box] a few weeks ago: [http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Inputbox The inputbox].
So, yeah, the project is more or less dead now. It never was really alive.

Let me start by saying that I never really considered this 'my' project. I mean, I started it, certainly, and I was pretty much the only person working on it... but I always figured that it was the community's project, and if enough people got working on it, my name might not even appear on it. Although, now that I look back on what I just typed, I think I'm rambling. Whatever.

What I was trying to say in the last paragraph is that... well, I dunno. I think I'll come back to that later.

Anyway, there are a couple reasons why the project didn't get off the ground...

* It was the first project I ever tried to start... heck, it was the first project I ever took part in, for that matter. Big inexperience factor there.
* I was the only one working on it. I'm sure Wikipedia has pages and pages of info and discussion on projects, and could tell me several reasons why nobody else jumped on it. But I'm not going to get into that.
* I more or less abandoned it. I lost interest in SL, and then later had a hiatus from Wikifur... so nobody was working on it for quite some time.

Anyway, if anyone wants to take over the project, they're more than welcome to it.

Let me just close by saying that I am not at all bitter from this experience. And I'm not being sarcastic. I know what I did wrong, and what I could have done right, and perhaps most importantly of all, I learned a lot. I made (imported) a template, learned lots of wikicode, read some policies, so on and so forth. And once I get some more time on my hands, who knows. I might just give this project another try, or start on a new one. Making a [[IRC]] project, or at least an infobox template, is something I've been thinking about for a while. But for now, I need to get back to work. [[User:KaloFoxfire|KaloFoxfire]] 13:08, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

* '''Ran from/to''': 1999 - Present
* '''Motto''': ''The Internet Makes You Stupid''

'''Something Awful''' is an internet community owned and operated by [[Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka]]. Stereotypical forum members have a somewhat higher sense of collective intelligence and pretension than the average forum grouping. It ranges from teens to adults, talented artists to talented writers, and also very avid gamers.

A minority of its users hold up the established SA tradition of mocking the furry fandom, including pranks, disorganized [[trolling]], and individual harassment of users themselves in places such as [[LiveJournal]], messageboards, and various furry websites. This includes [[WikiFur]] itself, which was vandalized on various pages with defamation toward the furry fandom or repetitions of the phrase "SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM." While the administrators of the [[Something Awful|SA]] forums do not condone the actions taken, and do take action to remove these troublemakers from their ranks when they deem necessary, many [[goons]] take it upon themselves to invade websites, forums and LiveJournals when they are linked on or off the forums. (Examples of off-forums organized invasions includes the now defunct [[SALJ]].) There are three instances where goons "infiltrated" a furry [[convention]]. <!-- If there are more, feel free to add. :) -->

To many on the Something Awful forums now, however, furries are considered an old "meme". But there are still members who continue to "hop on the bandwagon" and attack the fandom.

== Involvement with Furries ==
=== Conventions ===
==== Texas Furry Con 2004 ====
A newer SA forum user <!-- Can someone find the name of the user that started the thread? -->started a post detailing her first visit to a furry convention then decided it wasn't for her. She left a picture of a detailed pineapple hand-grenade which stated, "WE ARE WATCHING." [[Image:Sawarning.jpg|right|thumb|User's recollection of the original poster (somewhat inaccurate).]]

Later, SA member Vorpal Bunny, a resident of Texas, decided to pay the convention a visit, wearing a shirt that said "L33T LIEK JEFFK" and had a URL to the website. After being tipped off by furry and SA goon Labinnah, the con staff proceeded to catch and detain Vorpal Bunny and his pack of friends, forcing them to stay until they signed a form which stated they would not release anything to the Internet. This, of course, didn't happen.

An account in his own words of Vorpal Bunny's visit can be found online [http://www.viewfromuphere.com/writings/000122.php here].

The image above is a recollection of what the initial poster assumed she had left drawn again. The original displayed was left laying around in the dealers room and was given to con staff. The actual drawing had the grenade standing vertically, said "We are watching you!" and did not have the SA insignia anywhere. At the time, staff were perplexed and, although the logo of Something Awful is a hand-grenade, it is not a universally recognized symbol of the website. Equally, this hotel was right across the street from Bergstrom International Airport. Had the drawing identified itself as coming from SA, it would have been seen as harmless.

==== [[Feral!]] 2004 ====
A forum user posted about his "ninja infiltration" <!-- Not the right wording. Someone please rephrase. -->to a furry convention out in the woods. Sneaking around the camp area, he placed numerous paper flags with the [[Something Awful]] logo on various cars. In the thread he posted, he was ridiculed by the other forum goons for "having no life."

==== Anthrocon 2005 ====
An individual named [[Mix]] decided to bring an old 1960's-style '8-mm Kodak Ektachrome' video camera with him to Anthrocon, labeled with a bumper sticker that read "LOL INTERNET." He wore a t-shirt with his [[fursona]] on the front-- a blue hyenataur-- with his profile and "SomethingAwful.com" above it; on the back, a blown-up version of the Something Awful grenade logo. He visited the convention [[Con Ops|Operations]] office on the Monday morning of the convention, gave out 'I <3 VCL' buttons, shouted "SomethingAwful!" and ran out.

While many consider this behavior typical for a ''Something Awful'' [[goon]], Mix denies his involvement with the site, saying that he was taking pictures and filming for a personal art project, and that the actions he took on that day were a joke.

Later, a [[Talk:Mix|heated debate]] arose over the inclusion of the above events in WikiFur. In fact, the matter tended to be taken far more seriously by those who heard rumors of it than those who were there at the time. [[Xydexx]] had this to say:

:''To be honest, I didn't think he was doing anything really malicious. I mean, he gave me an [[VCL#buttons|I <3 VCL button]]. That was kinda nice. The worst he did at AC was exercise poor judgement, that's all. Everyone makes mistakes.''

=== LiveJournal ===
==== SALJ ====
[[SALJ]], or "[[Something Awful]] LiveJournal", was a LiveJournal community which trolled pretty much all of LiveJournal. From auto-erotic asphyxiation communities to zoophile communities, they attacked them all. While not the main focus, one thing they did attack were other furry communities.

=== IRC ===
In late 2004, when the [[SALJ]] LiveJournal community was still around, many users of the community congregated in an IRC channel. They organized an attack on a channel on FurNet called #dragon_yiff. What happened was enormous amounts of spam with constant barrages of various catch-phrases from the [[Something Awful]] forums, such as the ever infamous "SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM." The users, however, when everything calmed down, blamed it on [[Sibe]].

=== Awful Link of the Day ===
"The Awful Link of the Day" is a daily feature of Something Awful where a particularly awful web page is located and showcased. The websites featured range between horrendously created Tripod websites or the most bizarre of the bizarre forums on the Internet, and sometimes a random furry artist's website or community, such as [[vore]] or [[babyfur]], will pop up as the target. Furry-themed websites have been part of the Awful Link of the Day nearly since the site's inception. On July 16th, 2000, the web page of [[Tom Foxx]] was given the "Awful Link of the Day" treatment:

: ''[http://homepages.go.com/~tomfoxx/ The Foxx's Den] (down, [http://web.archive.org/web/20000617060945/homepages.go.com/~tomfoxx/indecks.html archived]) - Since I'm currently at a loss to explain this page (yes, it appears to only be one page), I'll just copy the description that was included in the email: "Gay anime boy goes to fantastical online make-believe land, becomes a gay humanoid fox creature, falls in love with fellow humanoid fox creature, takes care of baby dragons, and puts bad midi music on an already bad site. I think it's about some guy's roleplaying character, but I'm not sure."''

The page is long gone. Tom's site was more or less hammered with a combination of hits and hate mail in his guest book. The incident sparked allegations that the site ops were picking on Furries because they were gay. [[Lowtax]], the person responsible for the selection, stated that he chose the page because ''"it appeared to be written by a spastic 10 year old with ADD who was obsessed with becoming a magical humanoid fox and marrying another guy fox. If that's not a ripe candidate for an Awful Link, God help me, I don't know what is."'' He added: ''"And to all you furry-lovers out there: you can defend and rationalize and explain the act of pretending to be animals so you can have online sex with people all you want. The fact is that it makes for some hilarious websites, and prime ALOD links. If you don't want people making fun of your abnormal sexual fetishes, DON'T MAKE THEM PUBLIC."''

The resulting discussion has, unfortunately, now expired from their forums.

==WikiFur==

===August 15, 2005===

On August 15, 2005, WikiFur was invaded by goons from Something Awful only a few days after the project had been announced. Despite the "disclaimer" contained in the (now down) [http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1642602 initial thread] in the Something Awful Forums ("''DISCLAIMER: DO NOT INVADE THIS SHIT YOU FUCKERS. YOU KNOW THAT'S AGAINST THE RULES. JUST POINT AND LAUGH''",) vandalism ramped up when the link to the site was chosen as the SA ''Awful Link of the Day'' on the same day.

At one point, pages were being maliciously edited every 45 seconds. However, their attempt to stop WikiFur backfired; the actions of Something Awful actually increased the visibility of WikiFur, and this attracted more legitimate users than SA could bring vandals. In hindsight, their actions were actually beneficial.

:''[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]: As they say, the only bad publicity is no publicity!''

===Random acts of vandalism===

Since then, WikiFur has been the target of [http://furry.wikicities.com/index.php?title=WikiFur:Community_Central&action=history sporadic acts] [http://furry.wikicities.com/index.php?title=WikiFur&action=history of vandalism] from one or more goons, or at least people claiming to be SA goons. The frequency of some of the edits as well as the effort required to hijack proxies from around the world to get around administrative blocks does raise the question of why some Goons seem particularly obsessed with WikiFur.

== Furry involvement with Something Awful ==
=== The "Furry Concentration Camp" ===
In January 2003, [[JJcoolJ]], a now ex-forum member and somewhat excommunicated from the furry community, organized users from the now defunct #safurs channel on FurNet to spam an internal forum called "FYAD," or "Fuck You and Die" with furry porn. [[Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka|Lowtax]], after getting rather annoyed with having the obtuse-humored sub-forum filled with even more horrendous furry spam, created the Furry Concentration Camp, a sub-forum which acted much like FYAD, but disconnected furries from the main forum. The furries who spammed-- and many others who didn't, but were labeled anyway for humorous effect, such as user Procrasturbator-- were placed in this sub-forum because they were incredibly annoying. It also proved to be a place where members of FYAD could come in and ridicule other furries for their own humor. However, after a few months, the furry goons took the forum for themselves and turned it into their own "Furry FYAD." Much to the disturbance of SA forum regulars, [[Sibe]] under an alias on an account purchased by JJcoolJ and several other furries began to post their collections of furry porn there. In mid-summer [[Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka|Lowtax]] deleted the forum. Sibe and several of the furries participating in the furry concentration camp were later banned for being a nuisance.

=== #safurs ===
<nowiki>#safurs</nowiki> was an [[IRC]] channel on [[FurNet (IRC)|FurNet]] started by a [[furry|fur]] named [[Jazzy]] around 2002. His SA forum handle was JJcoolJ, which is a play on the name of a famous rap artist, [[Wikipedia:LL cool J|LLcoolJ]]. While on the SA forums, on various occasions-- mainly in the [[furry porn game]] when it came around in FYAD-- he would advertise the [[IRC]] network as well as the channel.

The channel became popular and well-known among the SA community when the Furry Concentration Camp (see above) was created. Many [[trolls]], [[goons]], other furries and [[anti-furries]] alike began to visit, stick around to chat, harass the users for being furries or use the channel as a make-shift portal to troll other channels on the IRC network.

In late 2003/early 2004, [[Snowpony]], an administrator of FurNet deemed Jazzy unstable and therefore unable to keep administrating his channel. Forcibly, ownership was passed on to [[Bobby]] (aka [[Squnq]]). After getting bored, Bobby passed the channel on to [[Verix]].

At this point, the FurNet administration stated their belief in other users utilizing <nowiki>#safurs</nowiki> as a doorway to [[trolling]] other channels on the network. Snowpony began monitoring the channel by idling and logging. Annoyed, the users of <nowiki>#safurs</nowiki> took on a rule of "no idling," which was typically only enforced on Snowpony, and [[Wikipedia:kickban|kick-banned]] Snowpony from the channel. Flustered, Snowpony used her administrative powers to unban herself and rejoin the channel, only to have it happen again. She then proceeded to ''akill'' those who had removed her from the channel and rejoined.

For a few days after this, <nowiki>#safurs</nowiki> began to mock and taunt Snowpony constantly, perpetually kick-banning her every time she joined the channel, causing another round of [[Wikipedia:akill|akills]] and rejoins to occur. Another admin, [[Simba]] caught wind of this and began to look into the situation between Snowpony and this IRC channel. Believing that Snowpony was out of line with her actions, in a rather infamous display of quitting her administrative job of FurNet, turned the tables and akilled Snowpony.

=== Furry "Goons" ===
A "furry [[goon]]" is someone who is actively involved with both the Something Awful Forum and the Furry Community. Some furry goons are given "immunity" at Something Awful, but the large majority simply keep quiet. One secretly furry goon has estimated that 20% of SA members are furries, but this figure seems too large. <!-- I received this figure in a PM from a furry goon, but I can't source it specifically because now I'm permabanned and I don't think he would like his identity revealed anyway, he would probably get banned or some BS like that. --[[User:Shii]] -->

{|border="1" style="width:100%;"
|-
||{{[[Template:disambig|disambig]]}}
<br/>Disambiguation
||{{disambig}}
||This template is to be put on any disambiguation pages after the list of alternate pages to remind users to update their links where needed.
|-
||{{[[Template:spoiler|spoiler]]}}
<br/>Spoiler
||{{spoiler}}
||This template is to be put directly before any content in an article which would spoil the enjoyment of those who have not yet read or viewed the item being written about. Any content above a spoiler warning should inform without giving away the details listed below the spoiler line.
|-
||{{[[Template:wrongtitle|wrongtitle]]|title=Correct Title}}
<br/>Wrong Title
||{{wrongtitle|title=Correct Title}}
||Due to technical limitations of the MediaWiki software, some titles are not allowed by the system. Instead, give the article a suitble name. For example, for an article about '''#furry''', call it '''Furry (chat channel)''' and apply this title with the correct title inserted. Also use the correct title when refering to the item within its own article or on other articles.
|-
||{{[[Template:Wikipedia|Wikipedia]]|Article Title}}
<br/>Wikipedia Quotation
||{{Wikipedia|Article Title}}
||This template is to be put at the bottom of any page which contains quoted text from Wikipedia. Replace ''Article Title'' in the template code with the name of the article on Wikipedia that was quoted from.
|-
||{{[[Template:Current|Current]]}}
<br/>Current On-going Event
||{{Current}}
||This template is to be put near to the top of any page which contains information about something that is currently happening and has information which may be changing very quickly. A Furry example for the use of this would be articles about Furry [[:Category:Conventions|Conventions]] as they happening.
|-
||{{[[Template:Inuse|Inuse]]}}
<br/>In Use
||{{Inuse}}
||This template may be used if you want to make a big change to an article and not have other users make little edits while you are working, causing an Edit Conflict when you try to save. Place this template at the top of the page, put 'Marked In Use' in the Edit Summary and Save Changes before choosing to Edit again. Remember to remove it when you make your final save.<br/>If you find this template on a page, check the page's edit history to see when it was applied. If it is over an hour old, its probably safe to remove and continue editing.
|-
||{{[[Template:Contributor|Contributor]]|Username}}
<br/>Contributor
||{{Contributor|Username}}
||This template should be placed at the bottom of articles which are about people who are also editors and contributors to Wikifur. The field should be the username of the editor. (No 'User:' is needed.) Also, to link back from the user page, please place the ''ContributorU'' template on the editor's user page. It is listed [[WikiFur:Boiler_Plate_Text/User_Page_Templates|here]].
|-
||{{[[Template:Personal-article|Personal-article]]|Username}}
<br/>Personal article
||{{Personal-article|Username}}
||This template should be placed at the top of personal articles, such as tutorials or editorial opinions, written by a single user on a particular topic. The article itself should be on a page in the user's namespace, such as [[User:GreenReaper\A Modest Proposal]], and linked to from appropriate articles in the main namespace - use a "See also" section if there is nowhere appropriate to put the links. The field should be the username of the editor - no 'User:' is needed. It is listed [[WikiFur:Boiler_Plate_Text/User_Page_Templates|here]].
|-
||{{[[template:To do|to do]]}}
<br/>To do list
||{{to do}}
||This template is intended to be placed on various pages (such as talk pages, WikiProject pages, user pages...), where a brief list of what needs to be done would be helpful. Note that this template (copy-pasted from Wikipedia) has only recently been added to WikiFur, and as such may be slightly buggy, and the template may be tweaked or changed in the near future to adapt it to WikiFur.

'''Templates''' (also known as '''boiler-plate text''' or '''tags''') are common messages that can be used on a wiki to help notify readers of something important, or help group together articles in to predefined categories, or generally help to clean up and organise the wiki. We have a number of templates some you might have seen before on other wikis, like [[Template:Spoiler|Spoiler]]. Others are customised or changed to reflect this wiki's content.
==How to use==
To use a template, simply type its name inside double curly brackets like this: '''<nowiki>{{template}}</nowiki>'''

Some templates feature spaces where you can insert text, to use those, simply place a pipe between each field. So for example, if you typed:
:'''<nowiki>{{BlockedUser|300 years|them eating the entire wiki's supply of jelly babies}}</nowiki>'''
You would get:
{{BlockedUser|300 years|eating the entire wiki's supply of jelly babies}}

Note that if a Template is in a ''category'', the page it is on also ''joins the category''. So as you can see because this template above is here, this page is now on the [[:Category:Banned Users]] page and that category is shown at the bottom of this page.
== Corrections ==
* It was never Linden Lab'''s''', but was Linden '''Lab'''.
* "and the game world has mixed age ratings from PG to Mature." -- s/age/content/i;
* Second Life is technically unable to fit into the ''MMORPG'' category, as by itself, it is not a roleplaying game. Rather, it is a platform that allows games to be built within its framework, and is a bit better classified as a richly graphical multiple user chat kingdom (fiefdom, lol? :P) than an MMORPG. Some lean so far as to just call it a ''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaverse metaverse]'', which isn't that far of a stretch.

== Additions ==
=== Referrals ===
Each user who joins Second Life gets an unique referral link. Giving this link to people who have yet to sign up, and getting them to do so credits the user with a certain amount of Linden Dollars -- the in-world currency.
* L$1000: Basic account signup completion.
* L$2000: Premium account signup completion.

=== Currency ===
Speaking of the currency, one can buy or sell their Linden Dollars (L$) via [http://www.gamingopenmarket.com Gaming Open Market]. Exchanges are done in blocks of L$1000, and as of this writing (20 August 2005), are exchanging at roughly USD$3.75. There are some furs who do this with the earnings from their businesses (Custom avatar creation, Generic avatar vending, etc), turning it into profit that allows them to do whatever they feel like, up to, and including starting their own Island(s).

=== Islands ===
Islands are user-owned simulators within Second Life. As of this edit, there are a number of furry-owned or themed Islands in Second Life:
*Taco
** Information about ownership here (Arito Cotton, Evangeline Suavage?)
** This sim has a slightly cartoony feel to it, and is the home of ''Dwellget'', a department store that parodies heavily on Target.
*Furnation Worlds
** This is a pair of simulators (Prime and Alpha) run by the crew at Furnation (soon to be Anthronation).
** These sims have a heavy dose of influence from the Stargate series. Prime's telehub is a gigantic gate build from the series.
* The Forest, Tiger Creek
** The Forest was the first Furry oriented island in Second Life. (More info on owners, please. Spade Richlieu?)
** This sim had an abundance of trees, but was a bit too bare to really own up to its name, if asked by some.
** This sim suffered from severe lag issues in the beginning, as it was a prime hangout to many furs, which led to the island being full at peak times.
** In its first months, it earned at least one dwell award (money given to people who rake in the most dwell (''butt hours'') each month by Linden Lab -- The entire island earned one of the awards for January 2005, which offset the first month's island fee by about half in this case).
** The Forest eventually came under Anshe Chung's ownership. Anshe Chung seems to be a source of teh_dramas to both furries and humans aline in Second Life. Anshe added Tiger Creek as sort of an overflow island. It, too, is furry-themed, and linked to the South side of The Forest.
** The Forest and Tiger Creek are now part of what many call ''AnsheLand'' (Mostly out of dislike for its owner. Its proper name is actually '''Dreamland'''), a chunk of about 35 to 40 linked islands in the far northwest region of the Grid.

== Second Life updates ==

Maybe it can be mentioned that with very few exceptions, when an update for the Second Life client is released, it literally becomes mandatory to upgrade your own client to the new release if you wish to access the SL world. And also, these updates being mandatory can be the most subtle annoyance the game has because they don't give you a choice but to get the new update even if it 'breaks' your ability to connect because of having a card that it suddenly doesn't like anymore. Further discussion, as technical as it is, would relate such compatability breaks as being due to the card not being fully supported in the first place, or possible due to updates in the OpenGL code (which may not be a very likely possability). This means that if a user's client is unable to log in after updating because its hardware detection says your card isn't supported by that version anymore, there are no older versions that can be used which will work on that system. That leaves the user the responsability to gte hardware that is compatible.
== Second Life wikiproject? ==

Being relatively new to Wikifur, and Wiki-* in general, I am not quite up to snuff on terms and such. But, and correct me if I'm wrong, there are things called '[[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:WikiProject|Projects]]' that are basically collective efforts at creating/improving certain areas of a wiki. An idea that occurs to me is to start one of these 'wikiprojects', focused on the furry aspects of SL. I'll probably get it started once I get the hang of the relevant areas of Wikicode. Any thoughts on this? [[User:KaloFoxfire|KaloFoxfire]] 21:33, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

:That sounds like a neat idea. You probably wouldn't be able to get it going on Wikipedia due to their verifiability and (increasingly) notability requirements, but it'd be welcome here. I'm tempted to go over and see the stuff on Second Life for myself, but if you know a lot about it and are willing to organize efforts to write about it, then that would be a great help. :-) --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 06:26, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

::Thanks for the comments, [[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]. They were very encouraging :). Again, I'm still learning the ways of the Wiki, but I think I've got the hang of enough to [[Wikifur:WikiProject Second Life|get us started]]. Also, I'm probably counting chickens before they hatch, but if word gets spread around the SL furry community, we could be welcoming some new WikiFurries before long. We could draw them in with the idea of writing a few lines about their character or group, and before they know it, BAM, they're hooked. But again, I'm getting ahead of things. [[User:KaloFoxfire|KaloFoxfire]] 15:34, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

:::It sounds like a good plan. Why'd you think we're so welcoming of entries to [[:Category:People]]? ;-)

:::I think we already have a house billboard advertisement in Teen SL - if you know of any good ways of getting the word out in the main SL community that would be great. Every bit helps. --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 05:29, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

::::An idea that occurs to me is to put up some paid advertising in the furry areas. One area that appeals to me in particular is the [[FurNation Worlds]] [[Sandbox (Second Life)|Sandbox]]. I have some spare [[Second Life#Currency|$L]] lying around, so I'd be willing to finance the advertising to some extent. I'll look into it.

::::A bit off topic, but I seem to learn how to do something new every time I use the wiki. This time I learned how to link to specific sections in a page (The [[Second Life#Currency|$L]] link). Hooray for knowledge. [[User:KaloFoxfire|KaloFoxfire]] 18:53, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Series of corrections and additions that I'd like to see in said article:
== Corrections ==
* It was never Linden Lab'''s''', but was Linden '''Lab'''.
* "and the game world has mixed age ratings from PG to Mature." -- s/age/content/i;
* Second Life is technically unable to fit into the ''MMORPG'' category, as by itself, it is not a roleplaying game.

== Additions ==
=== Referrals ===

=== Currency ===

=== Islands ===
* The Forest, Tiger Creek

== Second Life updates ==

== Second Life wikiproject? ==

::I was too tempted, and made an account. It's . . . pretty darn neat. Getting towards what [[Wikipedia:Active Worlds|Active Worlds]] could have been. --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 10:35, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Series of corrections and additions that I'd like to see in said article:
== Corrections ==
* It was never Linden Lab'''s''', but was Linden '''Lab'''.
* "and the game world has mixed age ratings from PG to Mature." -- s/age/content/i;
* Second Life is technically unable to fit into the ''MMORPG'' category, as by itself, it is not a roleplaying game.

== Additions ==
=== Referrals ===

=== Currency ===

=== Islands ===
* The Forest, Tiger Creek

--[[User:XialLunashine|XialLunashine]] 06:35, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

:Added, unprotected for further edits. --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 06:57, 20 Aug 2005 (UTC)

== Second Life updates ==

== Second Life wikiproject? ==

Series of corrections and additions that I'd like to see in said article:
== Corrections ==
* It was never Linden Lab'''s''', but was Linden '''Lab'''.
* "and the game world has mixed age ratings from PG to Mature." -- s/age/content/i;
* Second Life is technically unable to fit into the ''MMORPG'' category, as by itself, it is not a roleplaying game.

== Additions ==
=== Referrals ===

=== Currency ===

=== Islands ===
* The Forest, Tiger Creek

'''FurNation Worlds''' is currently six [[island_(Second_Life)|island]]s in the [[Second Life]] universe. Maintained by [[Nexxus]] of [[FurNation]] and others, it contains public areas for furs to socialize, two [[sandbox_(Second_Life)|sandbox]]es for building, stores that allow vendors to sell their wares and [[Club Fur]], a virtual nightclub. The land is rated "mature" and allows adult content, include [[pose ball]]s that simulate sexual activites.

Because these islands tend to be a focal point for furry activity in Second Life, lag on the islands can be fairly high.

Recently, however, there were attempts to lower the amount of lag caused by the numerous builds on the two [[island_(Second_Life)|island]]s, by reducing the size of the textures that were being used as much as possible, without sacrificing too much quality.
==Info==

Kalo Foxfire is a somewhat recent addition to the fandom. He claims to have made his official entry either late September or early October (2004), appearing as Scriber on Furtoonia MUCK.

Not much is known about Kalo in real life, since he makes an effort to keep his actions online (both in-character and out of character) seperate from his actions away from the keyboard. He sometimes jokes that he has two lives, one online and one offline.

However, there are a few things that can be deduced about his 'other life'...

* On IRC, his user address is ~Something@flsouthern.edu. www.flsouthern.edu is the website for Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.

He is a college student at Florida Southern College, and is therefore probably between 18 and 22 years old. It is possible that he is, instead, a professor or other non-student, but given how much time he spends on IRC, he is most likely logging in from a personal computer, probably in a dorm room.
