History
The system was custom-made by Jurann and went live to the public on 1 December 2000. Prior to release, several months of research, development and beta-testing by actual artists was performed; the entire pre-launch process took approximately 10 months to complete.

On November 3, 2001, FurBuy announced in the News section of the website that "FurBuy will be closing permanently on December 1st, 2001", with "Thanks to everyone for an exciting 15-month project". As of late June 2003, FurBuy had "re-opened as a free website and auction system". Even though the system was no longer maintained and administrated, it remained online and operational during the period from December 4, 2001 through June 2003.

Initially FurBuy was based on a system that charged small fees for listing and closing auctions as well as enhanced features offered to sellers. After a couple of weeks of live service, it was decided that all fees would be dropped for use of the system due to a lack of users' desire to pay for such features. Since then the system has been completely free. FurBuy's features include image management/hosting, live auction status on foreign websites, co-branding capability and SMS/text-messaging.

In 2007, K'sharra joined the FurBuy administration team and took over as Lead Admin. Shortly after, a completely revamped version of FurBuy's site layout was rolled out on July 2, 2007, including a new logo and various additional features. Since then, the site has undergone many improvements, several of which have been a direct result of user suggestions and feedback.

In November of 2007, FurBuy held a mascot contest (which was later separated into a mascot contest and a T-shirt design contest) which resulted in FurBuy's first mascot: Porter the Packrat as designed by FurryVenus. As of 2008, the mascot had not been incorporated into the site design.

In June of 2009, what was formerly FurBuy became one portion of a new, larger partnership called Pan-Dimensional Marketplace, LLC (PanDimMar). The new company was formed in order to branch out the existing software and administrators into new genres and fandoms such as Renaissance/Medieval, Steampunk, Anime, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, World of Darkness and the like. At this time, K'sharra stepped down as FurBuy Community Lead in order to become the community lead for the new Merchants' Guild site under the PanDimMar flag. Jurann became the FurBuy Community Lead Pro-Tem at that time and is at this time still seeking a replacement community lead for the FurBuy site.

Current Status
FurBuy and it's parent entity PanDimMar are currently fully operational and continuing to provide active service and administration for all member projects. The FurBuy site is currently looking for a long-term replacement Community Lead who is tasked with public relations and promotion of the site, as well as dealing with users and responding to issues arising from activity on the site. PanDimMar operates on user and community contributions, see the Support section below for details.

Partnerships and links
In mid-2006 FurBuy announced its partnership with Fur Affinity and since then has been working with FurAffinity to develop crossover features.

In May 2007, Jurann posted that FurBuy had "added the beginning of the FurAffinity linkages, allowing new and existing users both to set their FA username. [...] I'm also working with the folks at FA about getting linkages on their side setup".

In July 2007, FurBuy announced the addition of a feature to "add your VCL username to your account", which "adds a little icon after your name that links back to your VCL gallery". In an added comment on the same post, Jurann stated that the addition of VCL links "actually precedes a deeper VCL integration that we were able to discuss with Ch'marr at AnthroCon."

In February 2008, FurBuy announced its partnership with FURiends to provide non-adult auction listings on their website. Along with this partnership came the ability to "add your FURiends name to your profile under your My Account - Prefs page and a pawprint will appear by your name."

Records
The record auction on FurBuy stands at US$4025.00 for a digital commission by seller Orange04 that closed successfully on Mar 6, 2008. The successful completion of the sale was not confirmed by staff in 2008.

The previous confirmed record auction was US$3025.00 for a digital commission by seller Dark Nek0gami that closed successfully on Feb 23, 2008 and is confirmed by staff that the transaction completed smoothly between the buyer and seller.

Support
A FurBuy news post on April 8, 2009, titled "End of the Road for FurBuy?" stated "The primary financier of FurBuy for the last ten years can no longer afford to continue paying for the site out of their own pocket. FurBuy will officially close on May 15th, 2009 unless the funds can be generated to convert FurBuy into a self-supporting company able to generate the money necessary each month for full hosting. [...] If the $1,000 is not raised by April 30, 2009 (or very, very close to that amount with a clear indicator that more will be coming in May) we will be shutting down the system on May 15, 2009. This site was built by the community, for the community, and will now live or die based on community support."

A "new page for the current FurBuy Support Project" was created the following day. Options include support auctions and direct support (pledges). Since then, donators and fans have been able to raise over $1,258 for FurBuy, saving the site from shutting down. Based on the success of the support project, FurBuy was able to convert the business from a sole proprietorship to a partnership-based company called Pan-Dimensional Marketplace, LLC. The funds raised also allowed for the purchase of newer rack-mount server hardware and installation into a dedicated co-location facility with much improved bandwidth and server stability.

FurBuy, along with other PanDimMar sites, now operates on a user contribution system. The monthly goals along with the current donation levels are now prominently posted at the top of every page on the FurBuy site. Users may contribute money in return for annual memberships or for ad banners to be rotated on the site of their choice. To date, no user contributions have achieved the goal of paying for 100% of the posted $400 monthly server fees, though it has come close. The difference is made up for by PanDimMar partners as out of pocket contributions to the company.

Jurann:

I was thinking of updating the old logo to the one currently in use at the site, but I'm not sure if I should just upload it as is, or if it should be cropped a bit first to only include the title... what would be the most ideal in this case? --MKerris 21:38, 30 Dec 2005 (UTC)

There are actually eight logo's right now. I just have not gotten around to rotating them in a while. I would prefer if they were not posted as yet though. -- Ayukawataur

We need to remove the use of the old logo in this article. It is no longer representive of FurBid-SF being retired in May of 2005. This request is being made as the owner of the image and the trademark/servicemark it represents. If needed I will provide a more updated one.--Ayukawataur : FurBid-SF Administaur 00:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

unreferenced ?
: this article does not cite sources because it was mostly written by the person who would be the source. she never considered that she may have to reference herself for documentation of herself.
: if you are looking for a documented history online, there will not be one to reference as both jeff and i kept/keep internal matters internal.
: if you would like, i can provide some references, such as mascots and such, however, the majority of the complaints regarding fees have been locked up for more than two years and are not made public for drama control.
: --Ayukawataur : FurBid-SF Administaur 03:11, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
::What references you can provide would be a great addition, and thank you for your contributions. External references that can be pointed to are invaluable; information on WikiFur coming solely from edits to WikiFur is recursive and hard to document. -- Sine 00:46, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
::: the only major problem is that 99% of the documentation you could possibly need to verify most of this is information only i have, or that i control, and i have not made most of it public. or in cases when i have, i tend to keep it very closed circle and do not always log where i placed it. however i will do what i can to help document where i see a 'citation needed' tag.
::: --Ayukawataur : FurBid-SF Administaur 04:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
::::Thank you for that. Detailed documentation isn't necessarily necessary (if you excluse my clunky phrasing). An external source (perhaps a forum or journal post) which we could point to, where you stated that x and y happened, would work for various things. -- Sine 05:35, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I see a lot of typeface on this page that is purely the unproven opinion of the owner of the site. Statements such as "It has been through many changes, but has survived to be the most known and stable site of its kind." are purely theoretical unless you have some way to prove the metrics and opinions of the fandom at large, and I find them to be in violation of the spirit and factuality of Wikia. These opinions are debatable and will vary wildly based on who you ask.

Further I see a lot of completely unsupported statements and information that are completely bereft of citations, including tidbits of 'conversation' with third parties who are once again never referenced. Much of the information in this article is irrelevant and extraneous and in my opinion not useful nor important to the history or status of the site, and should be reviewed and trimmed by WikiFur staff.

i would ask that the references to the bidding history on furbid-sf be removed from this article, at least until after our internal investigation regarding the issue has been completed. i do not feel it is proper that this is being posted here when the full facts are unknown by the public at large.
--Ayukawataur : FurBid-SF Administaur 02:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

:I would say no. The information is posted elsewhere in publicly-available LiveJournal postings, and nothing is served by removing the information from WikiFur. An additional statement that Furbid-SF is investigating would be more appropriate, I should think, and once that investigation is complete you are welcome to add a link to wherever the conclusions are posted.----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 03:07, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

:::It is your site - but the facts of who made what bids are just that, facts. That article appears to refer to personal information - names, addresses, and phone numbers (which also happen to be facts) that are kept on file for sellers to contact buyers and vice versa rather than the bid history. We don't really care about his personal details stored on your site, because it's not relevant to the situation; none of us have access to it anyway.
:::As for the speculation on how your site works, you are free to end it by giving your own explanation. Looking at other bidding histories on the site, the explanation seems consistent with the bid history that I have here, and with that of other bidding sites, like eBay - a user's bid is increased in reaction to that of others up to the point where a later bidder places a maximum bid higher than that of the first bidder. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:33, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

:::: This also applies to any information which may be found on either the main auction site, or the Discussion Board.
:::: Means any and all information which refers to the user, including bidding record. I only have made it available for persons who have a need to know, onsite. The information, as it stands right now is only the copy that gives the barebones bid-sheet, which is hypercondensed. The logs which I have are much more detailed, and explain in greater detail what happened. I also have many emails between all concerned parties, and logs of other conversations which all are part of the contributing factors to learning exactly what happened.
:::: There is much which will never be made public about how the system works. I am aware that many people will make assumptions based on what they see. And, yes the site is designed to use the proxy-methos, but it is styled a bit differently, based more on another model, which i am not at liberty to disclose where i picked it up. personal and such.
:::: What is worrying me most is that Jurann and FurBid-SF do not have a very happy relationship. I need to keep everything in this investigation 100% above board, lest someone accuse us of not being impartial and influenced by popular opinion.

Background / History
The name Jurann first surfaced in furry fandom early in 1995 on YiffNet IRC. The name itself was computer-generated using a random fantasy name generator created by the namesake's player for assistance in coming up with new and unique character names for fantasy games and stories. Jurann quickly appeared on FurryMUCK, TigerMUCK and Tapestries in early 1996. Although the character started out as a fox, Jurann is presently a hyena and changed species sometime in early 2000 due to changing personality and outlook that seemed to coincide with the species change. Since becoming a furry Jurann, both as a person and a character, has been very involved with furry fandom in general.

Character
Jurann as a character is your typical big, buff hermaphrodite hyena grrl (hyena of the spotted variety).

Real Life
Timothy Rea is a senior software engineer currently working for Square Enix in Bellevue, Washington, USA.

In addition to being an active member of the FurryMUCK community, Jurann is also involved in Second Life occasionally (as Jurann Kraken) and is an avid player of the World of Warcraft MMORPG. Jurann also maintains a personal LiveJournal and is involved in several LJ communities as well (see External Links below). You can almost always find Jurann online using a variety of Instant Messengers

Furry Projects
Making use of hir programming and webmaster skills, Jurann has created or been involved in several furry and furry-related projects.

FurCen.Org
FurCen.Org is an ISP and furry hosting service that offers free websites and other services for individuals and businesses for reasonable fees. Many of Jurann's projects are hosted through FurCen.Org's servers.

Furry Grand Central
Furry Grand Central was a project to collect and serve out information about the furry fandom from one, central location. The site is still available to be viewed but is now defunct, not having been updated in several years now. This was also where the original Furry Database was hosted before it was seperated into it's own project.

The Furry Database
The Furry Database was designed to give furries a system to find and be found by other furries in their area or who might be visiting an area. The system offered many new and unique features in such a "furry personals site" but eventually became too difficult to maintain properly and the technology it was based on became outdated. Jurann is now working on a new furry personals project but no information is available at this time. The site is still available for viewing but is not validating any new user requests, nor is it being updated or maintained at this time. There are no future plans to resume activity on this project.

FurBuy Internet Auctions
FurBuy is a custom-written professional auction service with categories designed for sale of furry items, or items of interest to furry fans. It is 100% free and has many advanced features and automated functionality on-par with or exceeding sites such as eBay. It is presently being maintained and updated on a regular basis by Jurann and live auctions are taknig place on the system currently.

FuroticaMUCK
FuroticaMUCK is a multiplayer world created by Jurann to facilitate an alternative to Tapestries as an adult furry virtual world. The MUCK features a very well-planned world layout and building system and strongly condones roleplay. It also makes use of several custom-written MUF programs to help automate the system and improve roleplay capability. Interest in the MUCK has dropped-off and it's not readily maintained, nor are new user applications currently being processed. If you have any interest in joining or assisting in administration of FuroticaMUCK, please contact Jurann directly.

Other Points of Interest
* Was once the Assistant Admin of Furnation
* Has a Mucker bit on FurryMUCK and writes MUF programs
* Built and maintains the Garden of Eden on FurryMUCK
* Has contributed to the Fuzzball TinyMUCK server project

FurBid was originally created by Aatheus (Jeff Orr) at the end of 1999. Enjoying the status of the world's first free all-furry auction site, it has remained the most popular site of its kind to this day.

Currently it is in the possession of its Administaur Ayukawataur. Her administration brought about the removal of the original, and quite buggy, EveryAuction version of FurBid and replaced it with a modern and more efficient mySQL server which she dubbed FurBid-SF. Although Furbid was initially free and the intent was for the system to remain so, small fees are now charged for enhancements and features, though posting new auctions without these features is still free.
