Talk:Kings and Vagabonds MUCK

2007-02-22T22:32:13Z

Juggernaut:

You forgot the actions between the wizards. There have been an ongoing set of disagreements between all of them. What you have has no TRUE relevance to why the last three wizards quit. Bahati DID because she got no respect. Chukizo, Kiniro and Ajazi resigned because of the rift between themselves and Timon, as well as problems within the playerbase.

~Chisulo

EDIT: There. I tried to make it as close as I possibly could. Knowing that SpazKitty doesn't know all sides, I tried to fix what she had that was incorrect.

Endless Round MUCK is a role-playing MUCK based on the The Lion King movie, with active feature (canon) characters as well as numerous original characters.

Basic info and rules
* Though based on the movie, Endless Round does not follow the same plots. Original characters have just as much say, both OOC and IC, as feature characters do, and can sway a plot in any direction through their IC actions.
* Shamans, mystics and such characters are not limited to primates or those with full thumbs.
* Adult male lions are not limited to a number, but a player must have one non-leonine species character for every male lion character.
* Players may have up to two feature characters from the film. Feature characters also have understudies that roleplay them when the main FC player is not available.
* Players may have as many characters as they can roleplay.
* No TinySex is allowed. Graphic sexual roleplay (or solicitations for such roleplay) result in the banning of the offending account(s).

*Zira
*Sarafina

Feature Characters
Endless Round opened with all the feature characters exactly as they were in the first weeks before Simba's presentation...and then allowed the storyline to progress naturally as affected by the intervention of player-characters and merging with new plots. So while the characters remain true to the personalities of their film counterparts, the playerbase is free to affect the course of the adventure in any fashion they can manage ICly. Early examples of such changes include the ambushing by hyenas of Mufasa's subjects during Simba's presentation, and the annexation by the allied hyenas and Outlanders of a section of the Pridelands when a later battle was lost.

The MUCK also has a parallel FC plotline, with the Simba's Pride FCs, such as Zira, growing up alongside the original TLK FCs.

Controversy
The website address of Endless Round MUCK (tlkmuck.com) is unrelated to the MUCK's name, but is very similar to that of The Lion King MUCK (tlkmuck.org). A Februrary 2006 thread on the Endless Round MUCK's forum includes a mention of someone finding Endless Round through mistyping the address for The Lion King MUCK. Other ways people found or were told about Endless Round are also noted there.

Advertising for Endless Round MUCK has included sending unsoliciated e-mails to members of The Lion King Fan-Art Archive. Characters on other Lion King themed MUCKs have received unsolicited pages promoting Endless Round MUCK.

The MUCK's rules regarding sexual roleplay have resulted in discussion, particularly as compared to compared to policies regarding violence; an example of this is in a January 2006 thread on the forum.

In May 2006, following a debate on whether or not Mufasa should be monogamous , the headwizard stated that Mufasa could not be polygamous, claiming as his justification for the ruling his perceived lack of any logic or example of evidence in the film indicating that Mufasa would act in such a fashion. This was done despite the desire for a public vote by a number of the players and statements from both Mufasa and Sarabi's then-current players that Mufasa should be able to have cubs with other lionesses. Following this event, those players who opposed the ruling and lack of a vote left their characters and roleplay scenes on Endless Round, opting to play instead on Sunrise MUCK, which accommodated their tastes by allowing them to play feature characters there. Several weeks after their leaving, claiming to have heard or witnessed evidence that some of the players who had left Endless Round intended to disrupt its normal operation, Ed banned several of those individuals he suspected (and their close associates) from the forums, and @toaded their characters. , stating that "not everyone has the right to use Endless Round."

In the aftermath of the departure of several players and their friends on the basis of this dispute, a realm within the IC world of the MUCK was abandoned by its creators. The former owners, having left Endless Round, requested that Ed delete their lands. Their request was denied by Ed, according to him, on the basis of other players having expressed interest in those areas and wishing to continue pre-existing roleplayers there and to begin new ones. In this way a precedent was set that the original creators of lands on Endless Round lose their total control of said lands in the event that the lands become important to players other than the creators themselves.

The above are largely past discussions and events; as such they may not be considered relevant to present situations on Endless Round MUCK. Most areas are running smoothly as of July 2006; the only recent disputes have been minor and relating to Endless Round's liberal rules regarding species selection, which allows for players to choose to create characters of extinct species of Africa and Madagascar on the condition that those species were rendered extinct by actions of mankind within the past few hundred years.

The MUCK also has a parallel FC plotline, with the TLK2:SP FCs, such as Zira, growing up alongside the original TLK FCs.

Controversy
The website address of Endless Round MUCK - tlkmuck.com - is unrelated to the MUCK's name, but is very similar to that of The Lion King MUCK (tlkmuck.org).

Advertising for Endless Round MUCK included sending unsoliciated e-mails to members of The Lion King Fan-Art Archive. In a similar vein, characters on The Lion King MUCK and guests on other MUCKs, such as Sunrise MUCK, have received unsolicited pages promoting Endless Round MUCK. Although such e-mails and pages to publicise something are not an uncommon practice, any unsolicited communication is generally considered spam.

The MUCK's rules regarding sexual roleplay have led to discussion, particularly as compared to policies regarding violence.

Following a debate on whether or not Mufasa should be monogamous , the headwizard set a decree stating that Mufasa could not be polygamous, despite the desire for a public vote by the players and the statements by both Mufasa and Sarabi's current players saying that Mufasa should be able to have cubs with other lionesses. Following this event, several players left for Sunrise MUCK, which led to Sunrise's revision of not allowing TLK FCs. Following this move, Ed banned several of those who had voiced their opposition to his manners of administration , stating that "not everyone has the right to use Endless Round."

The above are largely past discussions and events; as such they may not be considered relevant to present situations on Endless Round MUCK. Most areas are running smoothly as of June 2006.

Talk:Endless Round MUCK

2006-06-27T23:08:55Z

Juggernaut:

Oh boy. Controversy? I wouldn't know where to start /or/ end. =P What about how the headwiz banned members from the MUCK and forum after they expressed their dislike for the way he handled matters? What, exactly, are my limits here? What crosses the line between fact and libel? Spaz Kitty

:I would say if you can reference it with some sort of public post or discussion and it's something that can be worded with appropriate (pseudo)-neutrality... well.
:I'd like a reference for the unsolicited pages, though I'm not sure where to find such a thing; that was my own experience on a number of occasions. -- Sine 22:11, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

::Did the best I could, making sure to document all my references. There's also some discussion about how Ed has become worse than his oft-verbalized opponents, the wizards of TLKMuck, comparing his banning actions to being a step further than what they did to him after he caused trouble there (log posted by Xyanth after sent to him by Ed: http://tixli.ath.cx/junk/edkettego.html). I wasn't sure if this should be added, however. Spaz Kitty

The Violence and Sex areas are on a now smooth run. And even if we used the email systems, so do others. I am disappointed in the fact that some folk think it nesscessary to demean a MUCK because of bitterness. As a Wizard, I can only really ask that people know the facts, and I have put up factual information. Both sides of one mass exodus must be represented.
Juggernaut 27 June 2006

:I'd like to note that I didn't add the initial controversy section. And as far as I can see, we did use facts: actual threads and quotes from the forum. Spaz Kitty

I'd like to come to a compromise on this, If it's humanly possible.
Juggernaut

I've added a reference to Where did you hear about ER from? which touches on e-mail and paging of guests, and on the website address. I'm not sure about referencing individual posts within that thread (technically or in terms of ease of reading), and I think a template for reference to a forum thread would be good, as they're currently inconsistent. I'll do some searching and see if I can find a style. -- Sine 22:36, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

:In Juggernaut's defense, I have seen other MUCKs paging players from similarly-themed MUCKs. Regardless, the other parts are unique to Endless Round and should stay IMHO. Spaz Kitty

Is it possible for us to add a disclaimer to the Controversy Section? One such along the lines of, "visit, and then make your own conclusions, do not base your choices on controversy?" on that, I would be open to any or most edits, because of the disclaimer.
Juggernaut

:I think it being titled Controversy is enough of a disclaimer, if I'm following how I've observed that section used in other articles. Clarity on what happened when is important; do you think dates should be specified in the text as well as within the references? -- Sine 22:53, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea to me, Sine. I'm not familiar enough with Wiki-Programs to do it well, but I will try to. I'll have a chat with some others on this later, though I think how it is currently may be fine, along with the dates of course.
Juggernaut

:I'm happy to continue fiddling with the wording. We can discuss changes and I can impliment them, if you'd rather not keep futzing with the article yourself. I'm going to track down an appropriate reference format, as mentioned above. -- Sine 23:03, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm a fan of the bit on June 2006 added now at the end, if that can be kept there as a sort of marker. Any more such controversies, I'll try to remember to add as they occur, if such a thing does in fact happen.

Advertising for Endless Round MUCK included sending unsoliciated e-mails to members of The Lion King Fan-Art Archive. In a similar vein, characters on The Lion King MUCK and guests on other MUCKs, such as Sunrise MUCK, have recieved unsolicited pages promoting Endless Round MUCK. Also, many other MUCKS use this system. It is not rare.

The MUCK's rules regarding sexual roleplay have led to discussion, particularly as compared to policies regarding violence. Most areas are now running smoothly, however.

Despite all of this, Endless Round attempts to avoid dramatic situations such as those listed above. However, some do get out of hand, as voiced by the players.
