Wolves are defined as any of several large carnivorous mammals of the genus Canis, of the dog family Canidae. Wolves are one of the most popular species for fursonas.

Historical views
In ancient Rome, wolves were considered symbols of sexual potency as well as good mothers, the latter easily noticeable in the Roman foundation myth of Romulus and Remus, where the twins were raised by a she-wolf. Native Americans revere the Wolf Totem in a different light, seeing wolves as Pathfinders and Guardians. This flies in contrast to the place of the wolf in most western history, wolves having been primarily seen as creatures to be feared, a viewpoint even noted in religious texts such as the Bible: "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

Modern perspective
Though the connotations associated with the wolf from ages past still lingers, the view of the wolf today is constantly evolving. Everything from scientific research and readily available documentaries to books and films has done much to alter the public view of these creatures, one notable such example being the film Never Cry Wolf. As the wild ancestors of domestic dogs, wolves are both familiar and exotic to humans, which might explain their continuing fascination. Wolves have almost become cliches in some types of modern historical and fantasy fiction, shown as noble, savage, or a mixture of both qualities. The Wolves of Time duology included wolf characters from nobly self-sacrificing through to unrepentantly evil. In the furry fandom, a mix of both elements is seen: admiration and distrust.

:Kitten redirects here. Kitten also refers to a newborn rat. Kitty redirects here, for other uses see Kitty (disambiguation). Tomcat redirects here, for the person see Tom Cat.
A cat generally refers to a common domestic cat (Felis sylvestris catus). However, it is also used as a generic term for any feline or member of the family Felidae. Felines are one of the most popular phenotypes of furries, with a significant number of these being domestic cats.

About 40 different breeds of domestic cats have been officially recognized. Domestic cat breeds are often classified under 'longhair', 'shorthair' and those born through a genetic mutation. There are a very few breeds founded through hybrids of domestic cats and another felines species. As house pets, cats often live in arrangements rivaling their human owners for control of living spaces.

Both anthropomorphic and non-morphic cats are a staple of pop culture, from comics to television to movies.

Cat characters
Cats are very diverse and have a few common traits. They are easily seen as social or solitary, loyal or selfish, energetic or lazy, mystical or mundane. Cats are well understood by humans and often used allegorically. For example, in Jay Naylor's "Better Days" webcomic cats represent the Caucasian race. Cartoons cats, such as Tom Cat, Sylvester and Garfield, are widely popular outside the furry fandom. Cats are often sympathetic characters, but sometimes fill the role of antagonists when rodents or canids are protagonists.

Mystic traditions associate cats with ESP and hearth protection, initially due to their ability to rid the household of mice. Cats are believed to see the unseen or live in multiple realities. They often hold secrets or special wisdom. These beliefs are reflected in many cat-centric stories, such as "Feline Wizards" by Diane Duane or John Wick's Cat role-playing game.

Dog

2021-07-08T12:04:08Z

JaredVasquez: fews

copyedit

The term dog may refer to a number of organisms, but is used here to describe the domesticated canine. Canines are the most popular phenotypes of furries, with a significant number of these being domestic dogs.

Species overview
The domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is a subspecies of the gray wolf (or grey wolf) (Canis lupus) and a member of the family Canidae. Dogs are carnivorous mammals, though generalization about the subspecies is problematic because of the extreme variation brought about by the result of their domestication. Most dogs will eat almost any type of food. A few things may be said to be generally true:

Dogs can perceive sounds across a wider range than that of humans, from 20 Hz to 100 KHz (as opposed to 20 Hz to 20 KHz) and, thanks to mobility in their ears, can localize sound with greater precision. In addition, their sense of smell is significantly more advanced: it is said that a bloodhound can detect a single drop of blood diluted with five gallons of water.

Their sight allows them keen perception of motion, and their field of vision is larger than that of humans (while still following the binocular vision typical of the carnivore pattern); however, they are dichromats and therefore functionally colorblind. Their visual acuity is relatively low, with much sensory input being olfactory and auditory. Dogs have great night vision.

They are generally less robust than their wild ancestors, with a less pronounced muzzle and an overall reduced muscular structure. Some of this may have to do with their upbringing; tellingly, wolf puppies raised apart from their society from birth develop some similar traits. However, with hundreds of breeds ranging from the Yorkshire terrier to the mastiff, and the basset hound to the saluki, such generalizations have only limited value in describing the subspecies as a whole.

Dogs and human beings
Wolves domesticated at some point greater than fifteen thousand years ago (possibly as long ago as one hundred thousand years or more) form the basis for all modern canine stock; the dog is in fact identified taxonomically as a subspecies of Canis lupus. The relationship since then has been cozy; ritual burials suggest a close association between the two species as early as the Mesolithic.

In modern context dogs have many roles within human society. Many are "employed" in search and rescue and drug/contraband location; others act as seeing-eye or assistance dogs. Throughout history they have served as everything from pack animals to emergency food source, although today both of these uses are much less common. A significant number--perhaps the vast majority--of dogs in the western world are companion animals with no assigned task per se.

The term dog may refer to a number of orgasms, but is used here to describe the domesticated canine. Canines are the most popular phenotypes of furries, with a significant number of these being domestic niggas.

Robbie: "Are you, uh, a real villain?"
Bobbie: "Well, uh, technically... nah."
Robbie: "Have you ever caught a good guy, like, uh, like a real superhero?"
Bobbie: "Nah."
Robbie: "Have you ever tried a disguise?"
Bobbie: "Nah, nah..."
Robbie: "Alright! I can see that I will have to teach you how to be villains!"
Hey!
We are Number One
Hey!
We are Number One
Now listen closely
Here's a little lesson in trickery
This is going down in history
If you wanna be a Villain Number One
You have to chase a superhero on the run
Just follow my moves, and sneak around
Be careful not to make a sound
(Shh)
(No, don't touch that!)
We are Number One
Hey!
We are Number One
We are Number One
Ha ha ha
Now look at this net, that I just found
When I say go, be ready to throw
Go!
(Throw it on him, not me!)
(Ugh, let's try something else)
Now watch and learn, here's the deal
He'll slip and slide on this banana peel!
(Ha ha ha, gasp! what are you doing!?)
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
We are Number One
Hey!
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
We are Number One
Ba-ba-biddly-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
