Yiffstar, also known as the Yiffy Story Archive, was a privately funded non-commercial archive of erotic furry fiction, artwork and music. Though focusing on furry stories with adult or sexual content, it also had sections for non-sexual fiction and artwork.

Submitted content is moderated by a crew of volunteer reviewers. There was no censorship for content, other than the requirement of entries to be furry or animal related. Over 25,000 submissions had been accepted as of November 2007.

History
The creation of Yiffstar was triggered by the demise of archives like gotfox.com and the stagnation of Mia's Index of Anthro Stories. Unlike Mia's, Yiffstar seeks to actively preserve anthropomorphic fiction, rather than building a link database.. There are over 15,000 approved stories, 9,000 pictures and 150 songs as of 4 November 2007. The site has over 36,000 registered users. Since its launch on September 19, 2002, Yiffstar has grown to provide a forum, personal furry art and literature galleries, furry music, personal journals, a MUCK, a chat room, and an integrated oekaki board.. Most of the many upgrades to the site have happened silently without noticeable downtime.
Yiffstar was founded and is run by Toumal Rakesh.

Site relaunch as SoFurry
Yiffstar was relaunched as SoFurry on December 26, 2009. The site retained its existing database of art and stories and now contains new group features.

Services
Story Archive
Literature is grouped by content as either "Male/Female", "Male/Male", "Female/Female", "Male solo", "Female solo", "Other", or "Clean". Subcategories involve the material's content, such as the types of characters, and any fetishes that are involved. Popular locations are also available allowing users to search more easily though the database.

YS features an "opt-out" toggle to filter out keywords for things that a user may find repulsive has been added making things even easier to browse by simply removing from view anything that meets the "offensiveness" criteria set by the user.

A rating system allows users to vote on a scale between 1 and 5 as to the quality of a work. A separate comments system at the bottom of the work lets visitors leave their thoughts. If a user really likes a piece of work they can add it to their favorites list, or watch the creator to see their future work in a separate view.

Art Gallery
Yiffstar featured two types of visual art: Regular digital art, and an online Oekaki board.
The art galleries are the main hub of visual art on Yiffstar, featuring all the community functions available for stories: Favorites, Watchlists, Comments, Ratings etc.

Art can be grouped in folders by the artist, allowing them to separate different topics, group their art by year or any other criteria they desire.

The oekaki board is meant to be used as a visual comment, to allow visitors to draw whatever a particular submission inspires them to.

Music
Following repeated requests by users, Yiffstar adopted music uploads in 2007, again taking all the features available for story and visual art submissions and allowing them to be used for the new content format. Fears of repeated uploads of commercial music have so far been unfounded thanks to the work of the many volunteer reviewers.

Journals
Also in 2007, users gained the ability to run their own journal on Yiffstar. This feature has only basic functionality right now, with update notification and additional enhancements planned for early 2008.

Forums
Yiffstar contains a forum with an active furry community of over 32,000 registered users.. Some of the more popular sub-forums include "The Yiffstar Village" (general talk), "Endless Yiff role play" (adult), "Furry Sexuality", Yiffstar personals, a commission marketplace, "Story and Art Feedback" and many others.

YiffChat
YiffChat is Yiffstar's web-based chat, centered on sexual roleplay. Due to YiffChat's availability even through firewalls, and because of its ease of use, it is one of the most popular services of the site. YiffChat has 34 rooms as of 3 March 2007. The publishers drew from a mix of established artists and authors on Secretmoon and Cub Central, as well as new artists on websites like Fur Affinity. As the production of Softpaw cost a large amount of money, pre-orders and donations were encouraged, with donators' nicknames printed on the last page of each issue.

Some contributors held events to promote the comic, such as the popular pizza parties at Further Confusion and Califur. However, attempts by artists to distribute the comic at Eurofurence were thwarted when the convention banned the work, followed shortly after by a ban at Further Confusion, where publishers had planned to release Softpaw #3.

Softpaw #2 was listed in the Ursa Major Awards's 2007 Recommended Anthropmorphics List in the Best Fanzine category. The next year, both Softpaw #3 and #4 and Finding Avalon #1 made it onto the awards ballot, for Best Magazine and Best Comic Book respectively. In the end, neither work won, but the fact that they had got that far concerned those who felt such works should not be considered for the award.

For the 2009 Awards, a rule blocking "works of a predominantly sexual nature, or which include explicit sexual situations involving characters which may be underage or non-anthropomorphic animals" was added. As no issues of Softpaw or Finding Avalon were published in 2009, this rule was not tested against them.

Issues
Rating-nc17-button
Softpaw issues have been released on a six- to nine-month basis. However, there have been no new releases since 2008.

Issue #1
The first issue was printed in October 2006 and was initially shipped on November 15th, 2006. The recommended retail price is stated as US$19.95 - significantly more than most other periodical furry comics and fanzines.

This issue is comprised of 64 color pages and contains the following stories:

The third issue was first printed on January 2008. == Finding Avalon ==

Krystal is a fictional fox character created by Nintendo and Rare for the Nintendo 64 game Dinosaur Planet. Her role in that game was intended to be a playable primary character, but in the revolutionary introduction of the Nintendo GameCube, her role changed. The game Dinosaur Planet was scrapped and its elements were modified and altered into Star Fox Adventures. Her playable status was made short and she became the "damsel in distress" in the game who was trapped because she could channel spirits.

Her popularity has been noticed by Nintendo, and in a joint cooperation effort with Namco, she became a primary character in the Star Fox universe. Krystal's role was advanced when Namco gained permission to reuse her in the video game Star Fox: Assault as a pilot and a playable character in the multiplayer mode. It is in this game that it was introduced that she was a telepath, a fact that was not all too useful in the game, but was used as a cutscene plot device to launch a mission. It also confirmed the romantic connection between her and Star Fox leader, Fox McCloud.

In the game Star Fox Command, it is revealed that Fox and Krystal's relationship blossomed, but Fox was concerned over Krystal's safety and asked her to leave the Star Fox team; upset over his decision, Krystal left Fox and hadn't been seen since. During the course of the game, it was discovered that Krystal joined the Cornerian Army as a pilot, and during the Anglar invasion, joined Star Wolf. The game features multiple, conflicting endings, some of which show Krystal staying with Star Wolf and starting a relationship with Panther, another has her renaming herself Kursed and becoming a bounty hunter after being driven out of the Lylat System under accusations of betraying Fox. Even more endings have her rejoining Star Fox; one of the endings shows her and Fox settling down to start a family, having a son named Marcus. An interview with two of the game's producers, Q Games' Dylan Cuthbert and Nintendo's Takaya Imamura, suggest that none of the endings are considered canon, and that any sequel will ignore them.

Outside of video games, she is a fairly popular and common character in so much erotic furry art. She is often paired with many crossover characters from other fandoms, and the most popular pairing is when Krystal is intimately depicted with Renamon, a fox-like, female Digimon.

Trivia
'Krystal sandwich' meme strikes Fur Affinity
Fan research has uncovered several pieces of deleted audio that show that Krystal would have had a bigger role in Star Fox Adventures than in the finished game. These include Krystal shouting warnings to Fox, asking Fox why he saved her without knowing who she was, and even stating that she would join the Star Fox team if Fox would kiss her. It has also been discovered that Krystal's messages to Fox when he finds her staff were originally in English.

An internet meme based on Krystal, trying to eat a sandwich is called "Krystal can't enjoy her sandwich".

Digimon

2009-10-09T14:01:10Z

Hope(N Forever):

Digimon is an anime and comic series from Japan, based on a video game of the same name.

Many species of Digimon are some type of animal, whether anthro or non. For example:

* Guilmon is a reptile, vaguely inspired by a Tyrannosaurus rex
* Renamon is an anthropomorphic fox woman, greatly inspired by a kitsune
* Garurumon is a werewolf
* Gatomon is an anthropomorphic cat
* Patamon is a little rodent with huge ears.
* Veemon is a blue dinosaur

Other digimon have been variants of rabbits, bears, lizards, frogs, and a large number of other species and lifeforms.

Some furries and scalies have created their own 'Digimorphs' (similar to Pokémorphs, albeit less common); Some examples of these Digimorphs can be: Demiglenn, Dragoneer, Patachu,Kato,Darkie and many others.

Klonoa of the Wind is an anthropomorphic cat* who made his appearance in the Klonoa series. The character was designed by Yoshihiko Arai.

Abilities
Klonoa's ring allows him to fire wind bullets, which inflate things, creating a possible fetish.

Klonoa has very large ears and they enable him to fly for a short time.

The ring also forms a sword in later games.

Fandom
In the furry community, Klonoa is very often paired with Tails in yaoi, and oddly enough, rarely drawn in inflation pictures. Klonoa is also often gender bended by fans in both art and fiction.

* *Namco has supposedly (no reliable source) stated that they do not wish to assign Klonoa a phenotype, but if forced to, think of him as a cat with long ears

Hope(N Forever):

WikiFur, which began in 2005 as a mainly-English-language wiki for the furry fandom, has since grown to become a multilingual, non-profit project which provides information concerning the furry fandom and furry-related history to users in 12 languages. Despite the proliferation of multilingual editions, the English WikiFur provides a lion's share of articles in comparison to its counterparts, with over 11,000 articles since March-April 2009.

Five members of the WikiFur project were launched in 2008; two of the 12 languages of the WikiFur project, WikiLurv and TurriWiki, are autonomously governed and hosted due to their initially separate beginnings and later voluntary affiliation as lingual editions with the larger WikiFur project.

In addition to the publication of encyclopedic articles on the furry fandom, the WikiFur project also hosts the Pool, an image repository that allows for integration of graphic media content between the various lingual editions, and the (currently English-language) WikiFur News, which provides periodic news articles on events related to or taking place within the furry fandom; the former is hosted on http://pool.wikifur.com while the latter is hosted on the English WikiFur.

Sonic the Hedgehog (franchise)

2009-10-08T18:10:58Z

Hope(N Forever): /* External links */

:This article is about the franchise in general. You may be looking for the titular character.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a popular series of video games by SEGA, created in 1991 and starring a blue hedgehog called Sonic embroiled in constant battles against his nemesis/rival, Ivo Robotnik (aka Eggman). There have also been several spin-off cartoons and comics. Sonic is heavily popular in the furry fandom, although his sidekick, Tails the two-tailed fox, is often more popular than Sonic himself. Other anthropomorphic characters from the games and associated media, like Sally Acorn, Bunnie Rabbot , Antoine D'Coolette, Rotor J. Walrus, Dulcy the dragon, Princess Lupe Wolf, Rouge, Cream, Shadow, Silver and many others, also tend to attract attention.

Yerf famously instituted a ban on all Sonic-inspired artwork after the archive was flooded with low-quality artwork related to the game.

Max Black Rabbit

2009-10-07T19:11:58Z

Hope(N Forever): /* Fursona */

Max Black Rabbit (real name: Malcolm Earle) is a Canadian furry artist, and the creator of the (in)famous tiger-striped skunkette, Zig Zag. He has worked on various comic titles such as Hit the Beach, In the Zone, Furrlough, Extinctioners, Extinctioners Annual, Skunkworks Reflections, Boudoir, Rare Breed, and Sabrina Online, among others. He lives in Nepean, Ontario, Canada.

He was the guest of honor at Conifur Northwest 2001 and Feral! 2007.

Fursona
As his Bunnyman alter ego, he has a crush on Sabrina, the lead character on the "Sabrina Online" series, but he has been constantly euchred in all his attempts to date the skunkette.

He has tried just about everything, from bribing Sabrina's little sister Tabitha to introduce them, trying to woo her at a science fiction convention (and having R.C. Raccoon beat him to it, as well as having a run-in with Stinken!) to finally trying to meet her face to face at her apartment, only to end up babysitting the li'l ones.

Max also has a female fursona, Maxine. Maxine is more or less a clone of the male Max, albeit with female traits. She is sometimes issued to be the gender-bended variation of Max, but is often depicted as a separate entity, however.

Original Characters
Aside from his aforementioned Fursonas, Max has also created several other original characters that have become well-known among the furry community.

* Zig Zag: One of Max's first and possibly most well-known original characters.

* Coil: A member of Aaron Larson's Anacoonda species, Coil is typically being depicted as the rival of Aaron's own Anacoonda character, Astrid.

* Raven Hunt: A blue-furred wolf, Raven is a teacher at the fictional Patriarch University along with characters contributed by several other artists.

* Pussy Noir: A black-furred feline, Pussy is a character that was created largely for the Fur After Dark paysite, though Max has posted images of her on his free sites as well.

My Adult Little Pony

2009-10-07T18:49:23Z

Hope(N Forever):

My Adult Little Pony was a Yahoo! Group for sharing and discussing erotica inspired by the My Little Pony toy line, although the artwork was mostly based on the television series and films that were released in both the 1980s and 1990s. Items posted included sketches, completed artwork (both scanned images of drawn artwork and computer-made), photographs of posed toys, and short stories.

It was closed by Yahoo! without warning. This is due to the fact Yahoo! has a policy against Groups that have images or themes depicting copyrighted children's characters in sexually explicit situations.

Emberlyn Whimsy, or just "Emberlyn" or simply "Ember", (August 19, 1982 - June 13, 2009) was a Red Panda from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She used to identify as a Gold Dragon named Aurora, but has since realized that is her Dæmon rather than her fursona. She was a jewelry artisan, focusing on wildlife and totem pieces. Her work was at the Anthrocon 2006 art show.

Emberlyn was most active on Tapestries as Chimayi the red panda, a character she uses only for roleplaying. In the past she was most active on Furrymuck as "Indivara" the bat, but has since left FM because she is too busy for multiple MUCKS.

Emberlyn was also a fursuiter with multiple fursuits, and had plans to make Ember come to life by 2010. She was staff at Anthrofest 2006 and 2007. She was polyamorous.

"Emberlyn Whimsy", the character, is a Red Panda that is depicted as various ages - but by a default she is 14 years old. She lives in an alternate world of her player's creation. Her species and many others tend to have a much shorter lifespan than humans. The part of the world she resides often has long autumns and winters and much shorter summers, though none of the seasons are exceptionally harsh. She lives in a bustling city and she works in the equivalent of a pawn shop with her grandfather and brother. Her wings are considered extremely unusual and she is made fun of constantly despite their obvious advantages of them. In her spare time she loves making jewelry, fixing and tinkering with broken gadgets, and flying with the dragons, the only other creature that has the gift of flight in her city.

Emberlyn passed away on June 13, 2009 due to medical complications.

Rouge the Bat

2009-04-22T21:37:13Z

Hope(N Forever): Rouge moved to Rouge the Bat over redirect

Rouge the Bat is a popular anthropomorphic fruit bat from the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. She claims to be a treasure hunter, but is generally viewed as a jewelry thief.

Rouge is most known for being the only current and common female Sonic character to have an obvious sexual appeal, with the possible exception of Amy Rose; as such, her fanart tends to exaggerate her voluptuous shape even moreso than her official appearances.

Personality
In official media, Rouge appears on the outside to be independent and cold, and slightly vain. She has been shown at times to have compassion or pity, or even vulnerability.

Her taste for fine jewelry leads to disagreements with museums, and with Knuckles, who protects the Master Emerald.

Fandom
In the general furry community, Rouge is often portrayed as a fleeting seductress, generally with extremely large breasts, who uses her raw sexual appeal with great liberty.

Common jokes, punchlines, or fetishes attributed to Rouge include:
* Breasts filled with some light gas, enabling her to fly with their weight
* The usage of jewelry, particularly emeralds, as sexual euphemisms

See Also
* Knuckles, her general rival, and hinted love interest.

Furry Art Pile

Hope(N Forever): /* Art Piles */

Furry Art Pile, also known as FAP, was a furry art community which opened to the public on September 24, 2006. It relied on a system of tagging for organizing content. Mature artwork was permitted, but hidden by default.

* Addresses:
** Website: http://www.furryartpile.com/ (down)
** LiveJournal: http://community.livejournal.com/furryartpile/ (active)
* Founder: ekigyuu
* Administrator: ekigyuu
* Ran from/to: September 24, 2006 - September 1, 2008

History
Since it's inception on September of 2006, the site grew exponentially, with 12,358 works uploaded to the site in June 10, 2007, to a high of 30,077 works in April 2, 2008, continuing on such steady rate until its shutdown on September 1st, 2008.

Furry Art Pile went down for week in late March 2007, as part of an upgrade to its most recent version.

Shutdown
The founder announced on August 27, 2008 that:

This announcement, which stated that Furry Art Pile's archives would be deleted by the end of August was met with severe criticism.fact

Reopening, FAP's future?
The site was partially reopened on August 29 with planned public access for two more weeks, with Ekigyuu supposedly being into negotiations with an unidentified third party over a possible acquisition and continuation of Furry Art Pile; MyFursona has also stated its own interest in acquiring Furry Art Pile, with intentions of merging accounts between the two services.

However, when asked about selling or offering the site to new management, Ekigyuu denied that such negotiations were taking place at all; in addition, the announcement of the transaction by Tori Belliachi was thrown into doubt due to Belliachi's age (he was born in 1991, making him 16 at the time of the announcement) and British citizenship, which would restrict access to, let alone administration of, a website with pornographic or adult content.

Ekigyuu also disclosed interest in releasing the source code for the website's server software under an open source license in preparation for the shutdown in preparation for the deletion of the service; with the alleged negotiations in progress, it is not known if this open-sourcing of the server software will still take place.

Final word
On August 31st, Ekigyuu made a post stating that the site will not be transferred to anyone else, and all site URL's began forwarding to a Rick Roll video on YouTube.

Art Piles
The domain name Furryartpile.com now redirects to ArtPiles.com. All that currently exists at this new domain is the title "Art Piles - The Open Source Art Community" and a looping image of a bouncing bird, which was part of FAP's "loading" graphic. It is unknown at this time what Art Piles will be, but prior announcements point to an open source release of FAP's code for implementation on other sites.

As of February 8th, 2009, the original FAP URL still re-directs to ArtPiles; however, the date March 1st is in bold, large font centered on the page. This may suggest that the site is in a way making a surprise return, although it probably has a new identity. Oddly, the date had come and gone, but there was nothing happening, and the index page almost remains the same as it was.

Features
In addition of an external LiveJournal community, FAP other services included:

Embedded FAP
This feature, announced on June 29, 2007, would have allowed FAP members to display their latest works on their galleries in their personal websites, blogs and even their MySpace pages.

Tagging
Furry Art Pile's art classification is handled entirely using user-created and selected tags. However, certain tags carry a specific meaning, including the following:

* mature: Marks the work as mature, preventing it from being shown by default
* draft: Marks the work as unfinished, hiding them from appearing in the user's gallery (unless specifically searched for)
* featured: Places the work in the user's "Featured works" gallery, displayed above their normal gallery on their user page

In addition, some tags are used to identify works based on other properties:

* user:username Identifies the user that created the work
* favby:username Identifies works marked as favorites by the user
* type:genre Identifies images (art), writing (prose), or flash-based works (flash)
* color:hue Identifies works using the specified color
* workid:number Returns works related to the specified work

Full featured search
Besides being able to browse by tags, Furry Art Pile allows users to search with boolean search operators and spans of time. Search results can be sorted by date uploaded, popularity and relevance to the search string with up to 120 thumbnails per page.

Filters
Individual tags and users can be filtered or "hidden" with Furry Art Pile's tag filter.

RSS feeds
Tags, artists and all works were available as RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds:

* returns all recent works.
* returns recent works that match a tag string.
* returns recent works for a specific user.

Syndication feeds for message centers and comment threads were being developed, right up to the site's shutdown.

Software
Developer API
Furry Art Pile features an open developer API called fAPI that allows developers to create their own applications using the information on Furry Art Pile. Furry Art Pile was the only furry art website that offered an open API.

Open source
Guava (CMS)
Ekigyuu has announced intentions to release the source code of the content management system that Furry Art Pile used to host and upload content under the GNU GPL for other furry multimedia sites to use; this server software was codenamed "Guava". This will also include the release of the fAPI.

As of October 27, 2008, the new redirect for Furryartpile.com seems to indicate that this open source package will be called "Art Piles."

Minun (aka Housyasei-san, H/M), born March 6, 1988, is an artist who mainly draws Pokémon fanart, both clean and erotic. She has two fursonas, a Minun (a species of Pokémon) and a Seedrian (a species based on Sonic X), although her Seedrian fursona had since been defunct. Her Minun fursona appears as both feral and Pokémorph forms. She claims this as her pseudosona since she is only lightly involved with the furry fandom as a whole.

History
She has been an artist at a very young age, but she did not get serious about it until during the early times she attended high school. She has also since then, been into anime/manga fandom art. Her early endeavors where of Sailor Moon and Pokémon, along with other animes of the late 1990s, early 2000s. She did noy get into the furry fandom until she came across various kemono and other fur-based sites such as AGNPH, which she became a member of. After then she started drawing furry art more often, and mostly Pokémon-based fanart.

Nowadays, she still draws Pokémon, but to a lesser degree. She is also hoping to work on more original creations on the side. As of late, she gained a great affinity towards many fur-based mascots of the Olympic Games, notably the Fuwa, although she mostly prefers Cobi & Petra of the 1992 Summer Olympics and other older mascots. MythTrainerInfinity has been actively involved in community activities on the Internet for over half a decade.

2000 - mid-2005
Starting in 2000, MythTrainerInfinity spent several years playing classic board and card games on MSN Games and became the leader of Zone Checkers Rooms, a community exceeding 3000 members that focused on hosting tournaments primarily for checkers, chess, and contract bridge. Unfortunately, due to betrayal and malicious attacks from hackers, Zone Checkers Rooms fell apart in 2004.

In mid-2005, he became the tournament event administrator at World Gaming Center (an online gaming website). For the duration of his career at World Gaming Center, he trained hundreds of tournament host applicants to host tournaments and pushed for the usage of forums for users and staff members to communicate ideas quickly.

Late-2005 - present
In late 2005, MythTrainerInfinity began drawing and quickly became active in Serebii Forums' art forum he met Snagger Outlaw and the two quickly became friends. In January 2006, he pulled together a group of six artists (including Snagger Outlaw) on Serebii Forums and started N-Parody and created a website for N-Parody with the aid of a website designer who worked for free. Unfortunately, in mid-2006, N-Parody was back stabbed and the website designer ripped down N-Parody's entire site and demanded money for his services, otherwise he would not return the pages back to normal. N-Parody did not comply with the demands and the website was lost.

After losing the website, MythTrainerInfinity recruited six more people to join N-Parody (including Minun and Invader Pichu) and the group's ranks grew to 12. MythTrainerInfinity hopes to one day rebuild the N-Parody website with the rest of the members of N-Parody.

Currently, he can be seen uploading art on DeviantArt and Fur Affinity, hosting the monthly art contests at Serebii Forums' main art forum, and posting art on some oekaki boards.
