Initially a codebase built from scratch for viewing art by a team of individuals of furry inclination, a post on Yerf's LiveJournal offered to transform this fledgling project into a combined all-access and quality controlled PG art site for ex-Yerf artists who were leaving the site during its second major crash on the Autumn of 2006.

After taking input and suggestions from people on the journal, the first functional beta version of JaxPad was announced on 8 October 2006.

Shortly thereafter, ArtSpots was created to be a "second-tier," skill-reviewed gallery site. Artists wishing to have their work displayed on ArtSpots were required to submit a five-piece portfolio demonstrating their understanding of anatomy, perspective, lighting and composition.

The sites were tied together with a common database and user accounts. The combined sites totaled over 7,000 pieces and 399 artists as of 23 June 2007, 129 of whom were artists on ArtSpots.

On June 27, 2008 the sites were merged, with ArtSpots displaying art from all artists. Artists previously featured on ArtSpots were given the title compagnon (journeyman). At the time of the merge, over 19,000 pieces had been uploaded by close to 900 artists.

Prior to the merge, the ArtSpots acceptance rate was 38.6%. A significant factor in the merge was the delay in reviews, with 44 applications in the queue, the oldest one being 299 days old.

Prints
ArtSpots offered a Giclée prints service from March 2007, which was enthusiastically received by artists. However, the service became unreliable in 2009, with some waiting months for their prints, or for refunds. The prints option was removed and recent purchasers were refunded in August 2009.

Inali Ke'aloha is an artist, fursuiter, and a writer. She is the owner of Spirit Creations and Xelaros. Inali is a freelance digital illustrator of 11 years. Besides her digital art, she also enjoys photography, as well as non-anthropomorphic art. Her largest project is the four-novel series of Xelaros, featuring an alien race she created in 1999.

Fursona
Inali came into the furry fandom in 2001. She went through many characters, ranging from a blue fox, to a cheetah, then to a hyena, and finally a Native American timber wolf. In 2004, Inali discovered the Maned wolf while watching a documentary on National Geographic and finally found the animal she had been searching for. Inali's fursona was then a Hamayan (Half Hawai'ian/Half Mayan) Maned wolf due to her passion for both the Hawai'ian and Mayan cultures. The full name of Inali's fursona is Inali Maya Ke'aloha. Her fursona, like her, is a Reiki Master practitioner and self-spiritualist. She was inspired by the colors of the sun setting over the ocean. The stripes and spirals on her fursona have spiritual significance to Inali. Recently, Inali changed her fursona from a Maned wolf to a Xelorian, a self-created alien species.

Real life
Inali currently works as a full-time furry artist and part-time as an editor for a Medical Transcription company. She is a self-spiritualist and seen as a hippy of sorts. She is also a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner and received her Reiki Master Practitioner and Reiki Master Teacher certification in 2006. Inali also enjoys fostering animals for local dog and cat rescues. Inali hopes to publish her Xelaros novels in the future.

Inali may be seen at FWA and Anthrocon and occasionally other conventions throughout the year, and is often found in the Dealer's Den.

Spirit Creations
Spirit Creations is the name of the anthropomorphic art gallery owned by Inali Ke'aloha.

The Art of Spirit Creations
Inali Ke'aloha is a freelance digital illustrator of 11 years. Inali created Spirit Creations in 2004 after originally owning WhiteWolf Studios from 2000-2003. Due to confusion between Whitewolf Gaming Studios and the fursuit maker, Whitewolf, Inali changed the name of the gallery. Spirit Creations, as well as hosting anthropomorphic artwork, also features commissions ranging from digital commissions, convention badges, avatars, all the way to custom furry t-shirts, and more. Spirit Creations is also the home of the Xelaros novel series and art work.

The Furry Portal revert
Why the revert on The Furry Portal? All I did was change the Category: entries so this would be alphabetized under 'Furry' instead of 'The' in the category listings where it appears.

:Sorry, I should have added an explanation onto that. I reverted it because I didn't think that category tags could be manipulated in that manner with the pipe character. Now that I check the help info on Category tags, I see that I was incorrect. Sorry about that! Oh, while I'm here: did you see my comment about inputboxes over at Help Desk? That seems a useful thing to implement, but I'm guessing it requires some sysop-level tinkering to make it available on WikiFur. --Duncan da Husky 16:23, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

:I did see that, yes. Something to strongly consider (I think that given this and other comments, Community Central needs reworking again :-). It shouldn't require sysop tinkering, though . . . as long as it's installed, and I think it is for all Wikia, anyone can setup pages using it. --GreenReaper 09:25, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah i saw you floating about (in RC), hit your user page, saw that you were 'usually' on morning RC ... at least I finally found a place that's as easy as 'furry' in the browser. Yay. :Well, to the best of my knowledge the issue hasn't come up. From my experiences outside of wikis, I would view anything that came from P2P with a jaundiced eye with regards to copyright; unless something expressly accompanies the image saying it was public domain, I would doubt it should be considered freely distributable. However, I'm not the copyright expert around here, and I tend to leave that for some of the other admins here. (Aside: Man, I had never looked at WP:bjaodn before. Tidy as you feel needed :)

Transformation
I'm reasonably sure that this is actually correct, if badly formatted and perhaps not completely relevant to this wiki. See here for the rhyme. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:45, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

:I did get a indeed get a positive hit for the rhyme, but Google turned up nothing relevant for Lanelet, Elidia, Zaikhoeven, or "Duncan Frasier" and "Robert Lambe". I tried several different spelling variants and still came up with nothing. Now, I'm willing to grant that Google is not actually the sum of all knowledge, but the lack of hits and the near-unreadability of the edit makes me suspicious. ----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 18:54, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

::Duncan Frasier is cited as the author of the rhyme in the above link. Robert Lambe is likely to be this guy.

::There does seem to be some confusion in online sources about who wrote the item and when it was written. Don't suppose you know any medieval historians? :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 19:10, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

:::I've done some further research and I think I see the problem: it's written in the arcane and byzantine languange of academese, a language I'm afraid I lost my fluency in years ago (and besides, I only ever spoke technical academese - I think it relates to Liberal Arts academese like Classical Latin to Vulgate Latin :-) I'll warrant that it was a valid edit, but written so impenetrably I would question its value. I've found a couple of useful links that might help; I'll probably poke at it a bit more tonight.----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 19:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Feasox Article
Hello Duncan!

Thanks for the heads up. Personally, I don't know the policies (I admit I haven't looked them up before), and I have no idea was user space is... :P So I have not intention to mess with it any more. I'll probably just save it and put it elsewhere for amusement's sake.

Anyhow, before you delete it you should ask Kanilas about it. He made it in the first place so it probably means more to him than me...

Okay seeya!

-Jaggs

While I was aware that the article was moved back at the time it happened, it has occured to me that because the apparant reason was that the Feasox is a fictional creature with a fictional history, others are as well. A few examples of these being the chakat and the folf which both have dedicated mainspace pages.

While I'm not trying to rock the boat here, it seems that there is a discression in policy. Is it because the Feasox is not as widely known throughout the net? As far as policies go, what does it lack, or have which disqualifies it from the mainspace? As creator of the majority of the page, my curiosity just wants to know.

Thanks!

-Kanilas

:Hi there! This is certainly a reasonable question. The biggest problem I see with the article isn't so much that it's a fictional species - that's no big deal (see chakat) - or even that the usage is limited, though that certainly factors in. The biggest problem is that the article reads as a big in-joke, with behaviors of individuals being attributed to characteristics of the species. If it were moved to the main article space, the article would need to be more concise and encyclopedic; this means that a great deal of fluff would be cut and the article would be whittled down to bare bones. Sections like "Purr exchange rate", "Feasox History and Folklore", and "Feasox Politics and Current Events" (among others) would likely be cut completely. While it's reasonable to have some fictional background for a species, fictional stories don't really have a place in the main article space. Since someone obviously put a bit of effort into writing all that, I thought it would better to preserve it by moving it to the User: article space.

:I hope that clarifies things a bit for you. ----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 12:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Minor Bug on Recent Changes page
Howdy! I just noticed a small bug on the Recent Changes page. At the top of the page (at least according my my preferences), it reads:

Below are the last 200 changes in the last 7 days, as of $3.

I'm thinking that that "$3" is a variable that isn't being called correctly. It's obviously a minor thing, but something I thought might be a quick fix if you've got the permissions.----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 16:11, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

:Yeah. It's been like that since we upgraded to 1.7 alpha. It's a known bug, but it was low priority for the Wikia guys. I'll have a chat with them and see if it's a quick fix. If not, it can be removed by editing MediaWiki:Rcnote. --GreenReaper(talk) 16:27, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Easy on the trigger finger, there!
I just restored Morwa Lugis DragonCrypt; it does actually have some furry content since the animations are about animal-human transformations (tf). On a more important note, it looks like you added a SpeedyDelete at 22:00 last night, then deleted it at 22:45. Please remember that, in WikiFur terms, "speedy" is a relative thing. There is very rarely a need for anything to happen RIGHT NOW; if you put a SpeedyDelete template on an article, I usually give it at least 24 hours if not 48 or 72 hours for others to comment and agree or disagree on the SpD. If no one comments in that time, or if there's agreement, off it goes! ----DuncanDaHusky(talk) 12:38, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
:I only deleted that one so quickly because I honestly thought it had nothing specifically to do with furry more than any other video editing software did (such as Photoshop isn't added even though most furry artists use it), as well as the fact that it was poorly written. :The precedent is all around you, but particularly at :Category:People (it's also noted at WikiFur:About). WikiFur is about the furry fandom. The furry fandom contains people. The people in it are therefore a valid topic for main-namespace articles. Our bar for notability is that a person is a member of the furry fandom. 2007-03-21T13:56:08Z

Higgins:

Iron Artist is an annual artist competition held at Further Confusion, modeled after Iron Chef, a culinary TV show. Three artists are randomly selected out of those who sign up for the competition, and are called forth from the audience to throw a gauntlet to an incumbent Iron Artist of their choice. (Unlike the original show, each Iron Artist gets to choose their own specialty title; past titles have included "comic", "cute", "spotty", and "violence".)

Within 30 minutes, in front of the cheering audience, each of the three Iron Artists and each of the three challengers must produce a work of art in their respective category, to be judged by a set of judges (usually Guests of Honor or previous competitors). The hard part, however, is the medium, which none of the artists are aware of until the start of the show:

* 2001: sidewalk chalk
* 2002: cake icing
* 2003: Sharpie® marker tattoos
* 2004: balloon animals
* 2005: stained glass (paints on acrylic panes)
* 2006: pasta/macaroni
* 2007: (a generic version of) Lite-Brite

Beginning with 2002, the format of Iron Artist more closely followed that of Iron Chef. A roving floor reporter was added, and commentary during the competition was provided by Nicodemus and a pair of color commentators. Battle Cake Icing also included an introductory "medium video", featuring the tag-line "Like a breaking wave..."

The event was created by Higgins Dragon. It has been run by Nicodemus since 2005 with continuing support from Higgins.

One of the great champions of the competition is oCeLoT, who won her Iron Artist Spotty title in 2002 and held it until 2007, at which point she handed over to Iron Artist Control Point, Egypt Urnash. Rumor has it she can make a spotty cat out of absolutely anything.

The current longest-standing winner is Marci McAdam. She has participated in and won every Iron Artist competition except for 2003 when she was unable to attend Further Confusion.

Iron Artist

2007-02-04T08:33:22Z

Higgins:

Iron Artist is an annual artist competition held at Further Confusion, modeled after Iron Chef, a culinary show. Three artists are randomly selected out of those registered for the competition, and are called forth from the audience to throw a gauntlet to the incumbent Iron Artist in each of the following categories: comic, cute and spotty. (Each Iron Artist gets to choose their specialty title upon winning.)

Within 30 minutes, in front of the cheering audience, each of the three Iron Artists and each of the three challengers must produce a work of art in their respective category, to be judged by a set of judges (usually Guests of Honor or previous competitors). The hard part, however, is the medium, which artists are not aware of until the start of the show:

* 2001: sidewalk chalk
* 2002: cake icing
* 2003: Sharpie® marker tattoos
* 2004: balloon animals
* 2005: stained glass (paints)
* 2006: pasta/macaroni
* 2007: (a generic version of) Lite-Brite

Beginning with 2002, the format of Iron Artist more closely followed that of Iron Chef. A roving floor reporter was added, and commentary during the competition was provided by Nicodemus and a pair of color commentators. Battle Cake Icing also included a "medium video", featuring the tag-line "Like a breaking wave..."

The event was created by Higgins Dragon. It has been run by Nicodemus Rat since at least 2005.

The all-time champion of the competition is oCeLoT, who won her Iron Artist Spotty title in 2002 and held it until 2007, at which point she handed over to Iron Artist Control Point, Egypt Urnash. Rumor has it she can make a spotty cat out of absolutely anything.
