Chester Ringtail, full Chester the Ringtail, also known as Chester Magreer, is an anthropomorphic character created by female furry artist Terrie Smith

Overview
Chester is a cacomistle (Bassariscus sumichrasti), a flamboyant character that first appeared in Terrie Smith's furry comic series, Havoc Inc., and is best known for his laissez-faire attitude with life and his over-fluffed stripped tail.

Chester Ringtail and furry
Chester is one of the notable character in the furry fandom, which has appeared on occasion in stand-alone works (fanart), as well as numerous pin-ups.

There was also a Second Life Avatar skin built by Kithylin Perth.<ref>Chester Ringtail AV (By Kithylin Perth) page on Second Life Marketplace. Fursuiters Heyblibber and Whitepelt had fursuit builds based on Chester, and even fandom organizer, fursuiter, chemist, storyteller, and auctioneer Uncle Kage (Dr. Samuel Conway) wore a Chester fursuit incognito in early 2000, which he admitted around 2009-2010 on a few occasions, in particular, at MFF 2010.

Controversy
Unfortunately, due to its fandom recognition, the image of Chester has been used by critics In and out of the furry community as a detrimental vehicle to belittle the subculture, mostly regarding sexual preference stereotypes, especially homosexuality and/or the LGBT in general.
