e621 is a mature image board replacement for the image board Sidechan. A general audience image board, e926 (formerly e961) complements this site. E621 runs off of the Ouroboros platform, a danbooru-style software specifically designed for the site. It is likely that the site is named for the compound monosodium glutamate, whose E Number is E621.

History
* September 17, 2007 - The site was closed down, citing on its front-page that claims had been made against the site for hosting child pornography and only the Oekaki board and the IRC channel remained active.
* November 26, 2007 - e621 became active again, under the banner e621 2.0. It was forced offline for a few days over Christmas 2007 during the same DDoS attack that struck Fur Affinity and Fchan.
* August 2010 - The website ended its operations briefly due to David Ross (Insane Kangaroo), lodging accusations of child pornography and copyright infringement with the principle hosting company. The site was formally shut down when he threatened Arcturus with deportation. The site returned to normal operation under a new owner on September 8, 2010.
* August 30, 2010 - The website's main page was replaced with a small note saying that e621 would be permanently shut down due to "numerous threats to our host, false claims of illegal content, harassment and a few things that are much worse." This time, only the IRC channel remained active.
* August 31, 2010 - It was announced that the site will simply be resuming with a new admin, Varka, after a short downtime.fact Announced changes to the site include an updated takedown policy to amend some of the issues leading to the threats issued in previous days.fact
* September 1, 2010 - A website by the same name has appeared in the guise of Adobe Flash Media Server 3.5, as confusing as this is, both are different only due to the WWW prefix. That, or the old one was absolved by Adobe, while the new one is using the WWW prefix. Anonymous of Jacksonville says e621 simply has a messed up DNS record for the base domain, but the WWW subdomain is still correctly configured. Either the record's TTL hasn't yet expired (in the case of hacking or hostile takeover, this is a good thing) or someone somewhere has made a silly mistake. (When the site is typed in with, and without WWW it goes to Varka's page, the site itself depending how you reach it will send you to either by a 50/50 chance, it's easier to just put in WWW with it.) (needs update).
* September 8, 2010 - The website was passed from Arcturus to Varka. Varka has implemented a newer, more artist-friendly takedown policy. There will also be more artist involvement that includes obtaining prints from Inkbunny and going to the artist's chosen website for commissions.
* January 18, 2012 - e621 joined many other sites in protesting the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) and Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), by taking down its page and replacing it with the page that stated for others to write to their congressmen, being entirely generated by user content, e621 was a high risk target under the SOPA legislation, and took the site down with others for the protest.

Mascot
e621 has two mascots, both of them being feline characters; Hexerade and Esix.

Controversy
Early in 2010, the owners of e621 were looking for a mascot to adorn the site. After asking the site's users to come up with their own ideas, a poll was opened to decide on which character should be selected. However, a few weeks afterward the poll was closed prematurely as it came to light that one of the contestants had been rigging the contest by signing up many alts through proxies to vote his mascot up.cn

In response to this, the administrators announced that they would select a mascot among themselves. After deliberation, they selected a five character mascot team from the leaders of the poll, featuring characters by Mellis, Chizi, Keishinkae, Darkdoomer and Manafox.

e961/e926
In July 2009, a work-safe counterpart, e961.net, was brought online. The site was named after the E number of the then-new artificial sweetener, Neotame. Unfortunately, in November 2009 it was aliased to the original site due to traffic issues caused by the popularity of e621. However, users who want to view only safe for work content can use the "rating:safe" tag to exclude all mature content from e621, except banner adverts which will still include adult content. Images can also be filtered by placing ratings (i.e., rating:explicit) on the tag blacklist.

In November 2012, e961 was rebuilt as e926, a joke for it being a "bleached" version of the site, was reinstated along with updates to the main site. It displays content from e621 that strictly has a "Safe" rating. The site's login system shares e621's login database and servers, but requires a separate login, as it has its own cookies. Notably, it also has its own "safe for work" advertising. However, like the main e621 domain, users under 18 years of age are not allowed to visit e926, due to the aforementioned shared database and servers.

Spyro the Dragon

2022-10-11T13:39:11Z

Feuazur: links minor

cleanup
context

Spyro is a purple Dragon with small wings, large, curved horns, and a spiral-shaped spike on the tip of his tail. He is smaller than most dragons, a characteristic that aids him in the first game. In the original series most dragons are depicted as mainly bipedal but Spyro is depicted as quadripedal.

Spyro is energetic and curious, with little regard for his own safety. He is also described as a courageous hero, despite his small size. Spyro is also known for his cocky attitude. The Legend of Spyro trilogy features an alternate incarnation of Spyro. In the trilogy, he is described as a compasionate young dragon, always willing to help his friends and strangers with whatever problems they may have.

In the first three games Spyro's main moves are charging, gliding and breathing fire. Games 2 & 3 introduced temporary power-ups like full flight, invincibility, and freeze breath. Later games added more moves still.

Insomniac Games, also responsible for Ratchet & Clank and Resistance, created the character, and developed the first three games in the late 90's. However, in search of more independence as developers, they left the franchise in the hands of Universal Interactive. Ever since that step, the production of subsequent Spyro games have never been smooth. Season of Ice and Season of Flame (by Digital Eclipse) for Game Boy Advance were well-received by fans, but Enter the Dragonfly (by Check Six Games) for PS2 got unanimously bad reviews from fans and critics alike, for all sorts of reasons: from gameplay, to graphics, to writing, to game-breaking bugs. A Hero's Tail released later was better received, but nowhere near the level of the original trilogy.

In 2006 the franchise got renewed with the release of The Legend of Spyro: a New Beginning, which formed the first part of The Legend of Spyro trilogy. It was followed by The Eternal Night and ended with Dawn of the Dragon. These games have their own separate continuity. The first two parts were developed by Krome Studios, while the last one by Étranges Libellules.

In 2011 the Spyro franchise got rebooted yet again, with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. Curiously enough, this is the first game in the franchise with Spyro not being the main character, but rather one of the many "Skylanders" in the player's army.

In 2018, the Spyro franchise would receive a rejuvenation in the form of a remaster collection called Spyro Reignited Trilogy. These games are notable for having redesigned characters, with the best example being the dragons Spyro would free in the first game.

Furry Fandom
The furry community used to mainly revolve around the Legend of Spyro trilogy but grew to expand into another category once news over Spyro Reignited Trilogy and photos on the redesigns began to spread across the internet.

Fun Facts
*Stewart Copeland (drummer and founder of The Police) wrote the soundtracks for the first 3 games, as well as Enter the Dragonfly.

*The original three Spyro games are now available for digital download via Playstation Store.

*Dawn of the Dragon was the first Spyro game to ever be released on PS3.

*The majority of fans of the original Insomniac-developed games do not count anything post-Season of Flame as canon.

Wolf

species

The wolf (Canis lupus), also known as the gray wolf or grey wolf, is a large canine native to Eurasia and North America.

These canines are defined as any of several large carnivorous mammals of the genus Canis, of the dog family Canidae, and are one of the most popular species for fursonas in the furry fandom.

Historical views
In ancient Rome, wolves were considered symbols of sexual potency as well as good mothers, the latter easily noticeable in the Roman foundation myth of Romulus and Remus, where the twins were raised by a she-wolf. Native Americans revere the Wolf Totem in a different light, seeing wolves as Pathfinders and Guardians. This flies in contrast to the place of the wolf in most western history, wolves having been primarily seen as creatures to be feared, a viewpoint even noted in religious texts such as the Bible: "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

Modern perspective
Though the connotations associated with the wolf from ages past still lingers, the view of the wolf today is constantly evolving. Everything from scientific research and readily available documentaries to books and films has done much to alter the public view of these creatures, one notable such example being the film Never Cry Wolf. As the wild ancestors of domestic dogs, wolves are both familiar and exotic to humans, which might explain their continuing fascination. Wolves have almost become cliches in some types of modern historical and fantasy fiction, shown as noble, savage, or a mixture of both qualities. The Wolves of Time duology included wolf characters from nobly self-sacrificing through to unrepentantly evil. In the furry fandom, a mix of both elements is seen: admiration and distrust.

e621 makes use of a DNP list, and takedown requests are honored when following the guidelines of the Takedown page (https://e621.net/static/takedown). Images that are removed are also blacklisted to prevent posting.

Registration requests for inclusion on the site by artists and users might or might not be moderated by e621's staff, depending on the amount of spammers or trolls they are being hit with.

Uploading of photographic child pornography or bestiality media is not permitted, and uploading of images from pay-sites is discouraged, with the exception of a few images (usually for publicity purposes).

Additionally, any post could be deleted without notice if they fail to meet a standard of quality as determined by the moderators (poorly drawn or badly compressed art), though this is uncommon.

Regarding post tagging, the site uses a "tag-what-you-see" (TWYS) tagging system where posts are tagged based on what is visible in the images and animations. (https://e621.net/wiki/show/twys) Although this system is seen as highly effective for searching and blacklisting, it has caused several conflicts between the site's administration and a number of its user base and various posts' artists, primarily regarding the tagging of genders. The site features a page on its wiki specifying how they tag genders. (https://e621.net/wiki/show/howto:tag_genders) Despite said page featuring a disclaimer stating that the site's gender tagging system is only for the purposes of searches and blacklists, "Not and Never for describing the character" (i.e. not as a personal labeling system), this policy has nevertheless led to a number of artists requesting DNP statuscn solely out of a refusal to accept the site's tagging policies. Eventually, it was announced on February 12, 2020 that the new version of the site would include the introduction of a new "lore" tags category to complement the TWYS system, including canonical (i.e. by what the artist or copyright owner says) gender identity tags. However, "Lore" tags will be a locked tag category; only administrators would be able to add tags to the "lore" category after they sanction them first. Nevertheless, the site's TWYS, gender tagging, and "minimum quality standards" policies have led to continued criticism among several artists and members of the site (former and current).cn

On June 22, 2019, after having received several complaints about the vulgar terms "dickgirl" and "cuntboy" as gender tags over time, head admin NotMeNotYou announced that the tags would be aliased to less vulgar terms "gynomorph" and "andromorph". Other tags that incorporate the two vulgar terms would also be aliased to use the less vulgar terms.

Mascot
e621 has two mascots, both of them being feline characters; Hexerade and Esix.

Meesh, (born July 31, 1988) is a furry artist and is among the top 10 of the most popular users on Fur Affinity, according to FA Rank. His fursona is a Tabby Cat. He was born in Palo Alto, CA. He lives in Laguna Beach, California, USA.

Personal life
He graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design with a Bachelor's in Illustration.

Works
He has worked independently for most of his career in artistic creations, but has also worked with various comic art organizations, such as Spooo Presents and Club Stripes, the latter of which he still regularly contributes to.

Independent work
He is known for having independently produced a variety of comics for sale to the fandom, which are:

* The Werewolf and the Corgi
* Good Bitch
* The Ordinary Sanctum
* The Coach and the Corgi

There was also a free comic that he created, released on his Fur Affinity, called Rough Riders.

Meesh is also well known for his sale of image folios of his works and various compiled collections that compile previous images in a new grouping, along with a few new creations as well.

The first folio released, in 2006, was the Underwear Portfolio, of which there was only ten copies (and only 10 images respectively). They were sold at Further Confusion 2006. However, only seven were sold at the convention, so the last three were then put up for auction on Furbid.

The next collection to be sold was the aptly-titled Art CD. A staggeringly large collection, it held over 570 images upon sale. Within those images were contained the original Underwear Portfolio, along with another portfolio that had never been sold individually. Also, a number of pages from his old webcomic, Room 42, were placed on the CD. As the website for the comic had been taken down, the CD was the only thing that still had copies of the pages. This CD was sold through Paypal, as well as at Anthrocon 2006, of which 50 copies were made. Once again, any leftover CDs were sold on Furbid.

He later created two further art collections, which constituted the art he had done since the first Art CD, and all three collections were then sold at Anthrocon 2007. Due to a lack of funds for printing, sales of another folio titled Raccoon & Canine had to be scrapped, though they were able to be pre-ordered at Anthrocon instead for later shipping.

In 2008, Meesh compiled together two new collections, titled the Straight Collection and the Gay Collection. While none of the art on either of them was new, they both compiled images from all three Art CDs. So, for all intents and purposes, they contained almost all of the straight/gay art that he had ever done.

Straight Collection vol. 2 and Gay Collection vol. 2 were created and sold, along with the first ones, at Anthrocon 2008.

A Tentacles folio was also created for sale in 2009 and was sold originally at the online Club Stripes shop.

For Further Confusion 2009, a Tentacles: Deluxe Edition was created for sale, along with the Straight Collection vol. 3, containing all of his straight images from 2008, which counted 117 in total.

The Gay Sketch Collection, a collection of 49 images from 2008, almost all of which were never-before-seen, was also put up on the Club Stripes shop for sale in 2009.

Spooo Presents
Meesh only very shortly worked with Spooo Presents, for the creation of the comic Moving In, which was written by Runtt. Due to the style that Spooo Presents worked in, which was a back-to-back issue format with two comics in each issue and a cover for each on both sides, Moving In featured itself as what appeared to be a stand-alone comic, even if it was conjoined with another comic on its opposite side.

Club Stripes
Meesh's ongoing work with Club Stripes has resulted in a number of comics on the pay-to-view site. They are, in sequential order:

* Man Love Mocha
* Queers in the Kitchen
* The Valet And The Vixen 1-3
* Eye Candy
* The Uninvited Guest
* Warm-Blooded
* Dorm Dom
* Little Buddy (published in Little Buddy comic collection)
* Dessert
* Midnight Snack
* Little Buddy 2 (published in Little Buddy comic collection)
* Her Majesty's Messenger Service
* Little Buddy 3 (published in Little Buddy comic collection)
* Short Cut
* Morale (published in Cocktails: Hard and Strong)

FurPlanet
Meesh did interior illustrations for Dangerous Jade novella written by foozzzball and published in 2012 January by FurPlanet for their Cupcakes imprint.
