Encyclopedia Dramatica (also known as ED) is a reference-style parody and satire wiki and acts as a central catalog for drama, memes, and other
(mostly Internet-based) happenings that its members find interesting.

* Addresses:
** Website: encyclopediadramatica.com
** IRC: irc://irc.encyclopediadramatica.com/ed
* Founder: Girlvinyl
* Administrators: external list
* Ran from/to: December 2004 - present

History
Encyclopedia Dramatica was founded as a compendium of internet personalities, events and memes by Girlvinyl in response to the deletion of the Mediacrat vanity page on Wikipedia, created by LiveJournal e-celebrity Jameth (who used to be an honorary administrator on the site.)

Types of content
Most ED articles avoid a "neutral point of view" and encourage sarcasm, hyperbole, and other kinds of humor mocking the article's subject; they are not required to be referenced or have any basis in fact. It has been compared to an internet version of a tabloid and the Devil's Dictionary. The only effective editorial requirements are that the content is legal and funny.

Article themes include:

*Criticism of Wikipedia, its editors, administrators, and policies.
*The people, events, and culture of LiveJournal
*Social and political commentary.
*Shock images.
*Blog, forum, and MMO* drama.
*Internet celebrities
*"Internet Law", with a crash course on libel, slander and copyright.
*Internet memes, including those from SomethingAwful and the various Chan imageboards.
*Mocking subcultures like emo, goths, furries, and anyone the members consider to have an unwarranted case of self-importance.
*Presenting an article as encyclopedic, while delivering satirical commentary or criticism.
*Purposeful misinformation.

Images
Encyclopedia Dramatica has a large amount of pornography and shock images, but does not allow photos of people under the age of 18. There are also many ads on the sidebars that also feature this particular content. Browse at your own risk.

Encyclopedia Dramatica and furry
The site's material on furries is generally about the worst of the fandom, and like most articles on the site, it is intentionally offensive, and many users do display strong anti-furry sentiment. However, not all of its users are anti-furry, and ED claims it only makes broad generalizations of the furry fandom and portraits all furries as sexual deviants because it is, according to ED, far more humorous and interesting to read about something scandalous and shocking.

Furries are generally not picked out from the crowd when editing as long as they follow the site's policies and refrain from vandalizing. Besides criticizing the fandom in general, some furries use it to criticize specific individuals, particularly ones who they feel make furries look bad or to make private drama very public and persistent. The wiki is often used as staging ground for massive trolling or spamming crusades against a certain furry deemed particularly perverted or offensive, and ED 'raids' have forced several furries to abandon accounts on Youtube and Deviantart due to repeated spam barrages.fact.

Controversy and criticism
Drama
The most common criticism of Encyclopedia Dramatica is that its purpose of documenting drama often results in the promotion of drama, be it through invasions, pranks, reposting of sensitive information, or the very existence of an article on the site.

Copyright
Another common criticism is a seeming disrespect for intellectual property and copyright law. The sensitive information that appears in ED articles is typically gathered from long-forgotten, obscure corners of the internet, and is usually upsetting to the subject, to the point of legal threats and action. Encyclopedia Dramatica relies on the satire and criticism fair use exception clauses of United States copyright law as a defense. Their Arbchat procedure is the sole method of information removal and revision that does not involve the legal system.

The website states that all content contributed is irrevocably "licensed for infinite use to Encyclopedia Dramatica, in electronic and all other media."

Privacy
The site has an unwritten policy against revealing private information of those it satirizes. This is generally not applicable to public figures, and those whose information is well-known or easily obtainable -- especially if the resulting drama from inclusion is deemed funny. Despite the unwritten rule, private information on ordinary people is often revealed such as phone numbers and addresses if found.

Second Life

Second Life is an online virtual world consisting of hundreds of interconnected large-scale areas populated by interactive avatars, whose players may choose to take any form they can create or purchase. The major form of short-distance transportation is flight, while transportation between areas is typically performed through teleportation; both abilities are innate. The "main grid" is restricted to those 18 or over, as some regions contain strong violence or sexual content. A teen version for those 13 to 17 is also available.

*Address: http://www.secondlife.com/

Second Life has over 8,268,883 registered users and 1,548,131 active users as of july 21, 2007; logged-in users range from 20,000 to 60,000 at any one time. The system is funded through a combination of account subscriptions and "tier" (a form of land value tax). Users have the option to own or rent land parcels in a variety of sizes - as in real life, some owners may zone their land to restrict certain activities, such as commercial development. Business in the world's virtual currency (exchangeable for real-world funds) is encouraged by the Linden Research, and a variety of content vendors have sprung up to meet demand.

Outline
Second Life was started in 2003 as a project by "Linden Research, Inc." doing business as "Linden Lab".
Second Life's primary attraction has always been the level of customization; from the ground under your feet to the clouds in the sky. This was quite literal since the world's developers intended for the user to be able to create the world to their desire, as is quoted in the Second Life overview on its site:

:"Second Life is a virtual world - a 3D online persistent space totally created and evolved by its users. Within this vast and rapidly expanding place, you can do, create or become just about anything you can imagine. Built-in content creation tools let you make almost anything you can imagine, in real time and in collaboration with others."

Second Life is considered by some to be a variant of the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, or MMORPG for short. The true answer to the question "is it such a game?" is "yes and no" - Second Life is technically not a role-playing game by itself.
Also, unlike other role playing games, there is no goal to reach, no levels to gain, no enemies to defeat, therefore it isn't a game at all. It is more a MUSE: Multi User Simulated Environment.
Rather, it is a platform that allows games and worlds to be built within its framework. It is better classified as a richly graphical multiple user chat kingdom (MUCK) rather than an MMORPG. Some go so far as to just call it a metaverse, which isn't that far of a stretch.

Until April 2007, membership on Second Life required a credit card or SMS-capable cellphone, both for security reasons and because each region has its own content rating, from PG to Mature (which can be very mature at times); such prerequisites were dropped by 2007. Also, current members have the option of changing their billing information in the members area so their membership fees can be deducted through PayPal.

Controversy
On September 8th 2006, Linden Lab reported via a security bulletin (which was also emailed to all SL users) that the servers holding player account information had been attacked using a zero-day exploit. According to Linden Lab, this attack on the servers may have begun as early as September 3rd and they only noticed an increase in activity on the 6th which they then quickly locked out. Their investigation showed that the attack allowed a significant amount of customer account information to be downloaded such as credit card numbers, PayPal transaction ID's, real life names, Second Life names, account passwords, and contact information.

As part of their effort to improve the security of their servers, Linden Lab had invalidated the passwords (assuming they were already compromised) of all Second Life users and has required said users to reset their passwords. Linden Lab further mentioned that while the compromised payment information was encrypted, no encryption is unbreakable given enough time and computing power. They had thus stated that if any SL user believed themselves to be the victim of credit card fraud, they (the user) should contact their credit card company.

The short form of the bulletin in available at http://secondlife.com/corporate/bulletin.php

Second Life and furry
The furry fandom has a major presence in Second Life, with multiple areas devoted to providing accommodation, entertainment and creative services specifically for members of the furry community. Themes range from the pedestrian to the bizarre, although trees are common in furry haunts. Each user can create their own objects from the inbuilt primitives, but the majority of users rely in part on objects created and sold by others. These include body parts for avatars, accessories, vehicles (which may be purely aesthetic or provide extra functionality), toys, pose balls for avatar animation, and scripts to provide extra features (like "push" and "shield" defensive/offensive capabilities).

Outline of involvement
Second Life has become one of the popular forms of online entertainment for members of the furry fandom; at last count there were over 500 furries registered as Second Life users, and the true number is probably several times that by now. This arose out of the fact that the avatars, humanoid objects representing the user, are very customizable and the world's disposition for allowing users to create anything has made the concept of a virtual "fursuit" possible. Many furries of Second Life don't like to be considered to be wearing fursuits. Instead, they pretend it is their real body. These consist of a variety body parts which are attached to the user's avatar. These parts include tails, wings, legs, and so on - some have even made complete sets that resemble mythical beasts such as dragons, complete with scripted flame effects. Such avatar add-ons can be sold by their creators, who retain the ability to control distribution of their objects as part of their copyright, enforced by inbuilt copy restrictions. Some choose to give works away for free, for apparently altruistic or promotional purposes.

The high interactivity is also a plus for online social networks - as a result, various furry communities began to pop up in the world and are now a sizable force in the virtual world. In the October 2005 issue of Computer Games, "Furries" (used as a proper noun) were noted as a major user-base in Second Life in an article about the use of MMOs for self-actualization.

"Second Life Furry" logo
In (early 2006?), a "furry admin" meeting for all furry and/or furry-friendly sims' administrators or owners was held to discuss several unifying strategies regarding the fandom population in world (Inferniel Solvang was the lead fur for this particular encounter.) Of the many proposals, one was the creation of a common, official symbol or logo for identifying purposes for sim or fur.

The final design, a SL logo inspired image, came to be thanks to the design of SL furry artist, Yiffy Yaffle. The logo can be viewed on most of the older furry sims, with propagation to newer ones going at a slow, but steady rate.

Environment and Economy
Geography, environment and economy of Second Life

Members can purchase whole regions called Islands from Linden Lab, effectively renting a whole processor for the sim.

Prior to the creation of islands, every region belonged to a large land mass (sometimes called Mainland). Regions of these simulators sometimes ended up dedicated to specific groups, including the furry fandom.

Fan-sites
Linden Lab's policies regarding the use of trademarks on Second Life fansites are loose, provided the following stipulations are met.

* There is no attempt to pass off a fan site as Second Life or Linden Lab itself.

* The following legal text is present on all Second Life related pages: "Second Life® and Linden Lab® are registered trademarks of Linden Research, Inc. No infringement is intended." this must include the ® circles though can be any size the website creators see fit.

Natasha Softpaw

FelixSoftpaw: Reverted edits by 67.159.5.76 (talk) to last version by FelixSoftpaw

Natasha Softpaw, also known as Natasha Lockhart, and as Natasha Petrichor on Second Life, is a grey wolf fur, born in August 1985. She is a professional web designer, with hobbies including amateur radio, nature photography, travelling, hiking, and off-roading. She's also transgendered, and while she used to use a male fursona/identity on furry sites, she's in the process of changing this to reflect changes in her real life.

Character forms
Adult
Natasha Softpaw is a female grey wolf in her late teens (about 17, give or take a year). She’s a light-hearted, fun-loving fur who seldom takes life seriously, and she has a very playful personality. Her favourite activities include hiking, photography, swimming, and just relaxing among the trees near her home. She’s had a strong love of nature (particularly trees and flowers) ever since she was a pup, and happily describes herself as a “tree-hugger”. And, while she spends much of her time alone, she also enjoys social activities with her closest friends.

Her build is best described as average, but short. She’s roughly 5’4”, but this can vary due to her digitgrade legs (her family’s canine roots are unusually strong). Her headfur is dark brown, more than halfway down her back in length, and she typically lets it flow loosely, having never been a fan of the constricting sensation of hair elastics. But, she does loosely tie it back for swimming or hiking (if it’s a hot day). She seldom wears skirts or dresses, preferring short denim shorts and T-shirts (or tank-tops) instead. And, she usually wears a small, silver pentacle necklace (five-pointed star in a circle). She also loves wearing flowers in her hair, they make her feel like she’s bringing the forest home with her when she heads back after a day of hiking.

Description and reference images

Babyfur
Natasha Softpaw is a female grey wolf puppy (about 2, give or take a year). She’s highly energetic, yet also quite affectionate, and she greatly prefers playing outside over staying inside. She has an affinity for exploration, but she’s rather timid, so she usually brings one of her plushies (her favourite is a river otter) along to “protect” her. Luckily, her parents have a large, forested backyard, so she can play in the woods without being in any real danger. She has a bit of an overactive imagination, and loves dreaming up wild fantasy scenarios, which keep her much too busy to be bothered with TV or video games. But, when bedtime comes, there are few things she enjoys more than a long bath (she loves water), and some snuggle time in the arms of her mommy.

She has pretty long headfur for her age, it’s nearly halfway down her back, and dark brown in colour. Her preferred style is to just let it flow loosely, but she spends a lot of time brushing it to keep it smooth and untangled. She doesn’t like wearing dresses, nor does she like wearing just a diaper, though she does like jumpers and shortalls. Her favourite colours are lavender and blue, and she hates yellow, with her wardrobe reflecting this. And, she loves bringing flowers back inside after a long day of playing, as well as tucking them in her hair (she thinks they look pretty, and they smell nice).

Fandom involvement
To date, Natasha has attended ten furry conventions, including Anthrocon, Megaplex, and Midwest FurFest, as well as number of mini-cons like WPAFW and NYFB. She also attends local meets in the Pittsburgh area on a regular basis, and frequently visits groups of furry friends in Northern Virginia and Maryland, among other locations. She enjoys lending her expertise in website/community administration to a number of furry forums and websites, and recently, she's been involved with running large babyfur parties/social events at major furry cons.

She discovered the fandom on Halloween in 2003, and has been an avid member of the furry community ever since. Natasha has no relation to Softpaw Magazine, nor should she be confused with the artist Kiffin Softpaw.

Lupinia
Natasha's website, Lupinia, hosts several other websites, both furry related and otherwise. Among these are:
* Furry Teens , a general furry site geared toward a teen audience.
* House Rules, the fan-colored version of Ozy and Millie.

And, contrary to popular misconceptions among those who've never met her, Natasha has no relation to Softpaw Magazine, nor should she be confused with the artist Kiffin Softpaw.

Adult Form

Babyfur Form

And, she loves bringing flowers back inside after a long day of playing, as well as tucking them in her hair (she thinks they look pretty, and they smell nice).

Adult Form

Babyfur Form

Adult Form

Babyfur Form

To date, Natasha has attended nine furry conventions, including Anthrocon, Megaplex, and Midwest FurFest, as well as number of mini-cons like WPAFW and NYFB.

And, contrary to popular misconceptions among those who've never met her, Natasha has no relation to Softpaw Magazine, nor should she be confused with the artist Kiffin Softpaw.

Luca Shoal

2009-01-26T22:51:35Z

FelixSoftpaw: Undo revision 237366 by Lucashoal (talk) - It may be a WIP, but the article doesn't need to say that

Luca Shoal (born 1987) is a kitsune furr from central Ohio, U.S.A., but now resides in Pittsburgh for a college-level Culinary Arts course.

Fandom involvement
Luca started out his involvement within it by joining Furcadia in 2002 as an otter. Over the years his fursonas' species has changed as follows (in chronological order) otter, rabbit, fox, and currently as a three-tailed kitsune.

He is most known for his appearance in the flash animation, High Tail Hall, as well as being a moderator and frequent poster on the Yiffstar message-boards. Luca used to be somewhat active in both Second Life and Tapestries, but has lost interest in both of them.

Finally, Luca can be found on a number of other websites, including LiveJournal, deviantART, and Kingdom of Loathing.

Luca's description
Luca's kitsune magic includes an ability to change size, age, gender, and species, other physical attributes (hair, fur, etc.) and chemical make-up of his form (I.e., becoming latex). However, a few things remain constant.

One of those being that the most accurate picture depicting him was one done by furry artist Marci McAdam. Another fairly accurate picture was done by Spug, or Dirty_Baka alternatively. Luca's fur is the standard fox colors, with black "paws" and "socks" up to middle of the lower arm, and mid-thigh respectively.

White or cream fur covers all of his tummy, crotch, and the inside part of his thighs, and goes all the way up the underside of his muzzle and in patches around his eyes, which are violet, like his bangs. The rest of his headfur is black, usually, or it's all violet.

The only accessories of note he almost always has are three ribbons tied around his tails and glasses. For the ribbons, white around the right tail, pink on the middle tail, and purple on the left. These bows are tied roughly where the white fur on the tip of his large fluffy tails meets the red fur of the majority of the tail.

As for the glasses, Luca can see without them, but it's fuzzy further out (nearsighted), so, the kitsune needs glasses, then they're nothing special, just standard dark silver or black half frames.

When it comes to clothing, almost anything goes really. Luca usually prefers "sissy" clothing when of cub age, namely frilly dresses and the like. As of late 2007, he began to develop a taste for more balance, opting for clothes meant for boys just as much.

Role-playing and paraphilias
At one time, Luca was willing to role-play with nearly anyone, being somewhat of a "RPslut" then. Over the past year or so though, he's mellowed out, and does not RP nearly as much as he once did, nor with as many people.

He still has a few kinks that he's into though, and usually at least one element is included when he role-plays, such as cross-dressing, babyfur (or ageplay), submissiveness, spanking, and many more. In fact, he's open to most anything outside of vore, snuff, and blood. The babyfur interest in particular is a favorite of Luca, who considers himself both an AB and a DL both online and in the real world.

Conventions and RL
Luca's first furry convention was Anthrocon 2006, and he has gone to Anthrocon ever since. He's also attended a few other conventions, all non-furry and based in Ohio, such as Ohayocon, and Mid-Ohio Comic Con. Luca is also a regular attendee of Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend, ever since he moved to Pittsburgh.

Luca plans to return to Central Ohio after he graduates. He wants to stay close enough to the area to make it to cons in Pittsburgh, but has learned that he's most comfortable around his hometown, where he knows the area well.

Babyfur Form

Natasha Softpaw, also known as Natasha Lockhart and as Natasha Petrichor on Second Life, is a grey wolf fur. She is a professional web designer, with hobbies including amateur radio, nature photography, travelling, hiking, and off-roading. She's also transgendered, and while she used to use a male fursona/identity on furry sites, she's in the process of changing this to reflect changes in her real life.

Character Forms
Adult Form
Natasha Softpaw is a female grey wolf in her late teens (about 17, give or take a year). She’s a light-hearted, fun-loving fur who seldom takes life seriously, and she has a very playful personality. Her favourite activities include hiking, photography, swimming, and just relaxing among the trees near her home. She’s had a strong love of nature (particularly trees and flowers) ever since she was a pup, and happily describes herself as a “tree-hugger”. And, while she spends much of her time alone, she also enjoys social activities with her closest friends.
