Zoophilia is the technical term for the sexual attraction of humans to animals.

Etymology
'Zoophilia' is a favored term in popular and furry culture as an alternative to the term bestiality,cn because it stresses orientation over acts, and is usually regarded as less prejudicial. (For more information on the context and use of the technical term, see: Paraphilia.)

Self-identified zoophiles versus bestiality
Most people who identify themselves as zoophiles distinguish between zoophilia and bestiality. Though some zoophiles choose to engage in sexual contact with their animal companions, not all do. Zoophiles state that they are lovers of animals, and that sexual contact, when it is done, is an extension of a deeper emotional and perhaps spiritual relationship with the animal, similar in character to the sexual expression between human companions.

They sometimes refer to those who have sexual contact with animals without emotional bonds as beastialists (and/or beasties). Zoophiles may draw attention to the distinction between bestiality (an act), and zoophilia (sexual attraction), and to the view that those who have sexual contact with animals without an emotional connection are not zoophiles.

Some self-identified zoophiles also use the term to refer to anyone with the kind of emotional bonds they stress as distinguishing them from bestialists, including those who have no sexual contact with or interest in animals.

Zoophilia as a sexual orientation
While zoophilia is classified as a paraphilia by the American Psychological Association, many zoophiles conceptualize it instead as their sexual orientation, referring to their attraction as zoosexuality. While most studies analyze zoophilia as a paraphilia or within a criminal context, some scholars have argued in favor of the idea that zoophilia can be conceptualized as a sexual orientation.

In his study of 8 zoophiles, Donofrio (unpublished doctoral dissertation, 1996) suggested that zoophilia may not be a clinically significant problem, and reported that the concept of zoophilia being a sexual orientation was supported by his doctoral study. He suggested using a scale resembling the Kinsey scale to measure sexual interest in humans vs. animals.

More recently, sexologist Hani Miletski surveyed 93 zoophiles, and concluded that zoophilia fits Robert Francoeur's conceptualization of sexual orientation (affectional orientation, sexual fantasy orientation, and erotic orientation). several surveys have also asked furries about zoophilia. To date, however, no surveys have asked about bestiality.

Below is a review of the estimates on the prevalence of zoophilia among furries:

|}

The simple average across all surveys is 16.1%. Weighing the estimates according to sample size gives a result of 14.9%. Some important limitations of these surveys should be noted, however.

A shortcoming that affects every survey on the furry fandom is the fact that it's impossible to gather a random and representative sample of online communities. As all of these surveys rely on self-selected samples, they may have oversampled furries who have a greater interest in the fandom, a more positive opinion of it, or who simply spend more time online.

Rust, J. D.t's estimate of only 2% would be even lower than what's been estimated for the general population, however this is likely due to social desirability bias affecting the results, as 325 of the participants were interviewed in-person, and respondents had to provide identification plus an email address in order to participate in the online survey.

In Dr. Sharon Roberts' survey respondents were asked to list their kinks and fetishes in an open-ended question. As some zoophilies think of their attraction as a sexual orientation rather than a paraphilia or kink, not all zoophiles may have listed their attraction on this question. Furthermore, only respondents who listed at least one kink were included in the total, hence furries who are asexual or don't have any kinks are not represented in these results.

Hsu, K. and Bailey, J. M's study focused only on participants who identified as male, hence their results are not generalizable to all furries. They also state that 64.7% of participants were recruited via a forum for furries. While they don't specify what forum, other surveys of the fandom suggest that very few furries participate in forums. It should also be noted that while 46.7% of respondents reported some level of sexual attraction to animals this does not necessarily mean that they can all be classified as zoophiles, as many researchers set a threshold of medium or low attraction to make such a classification.

It should also be noted that while 46.7% of respondents reported some level of sexual attraction to animals this does not necessarily mean that they can all be classified as zoophiles, as many researchers set a threshold of medium or low attraction to make such a classification.

yiff.party was a web scraper website that used bots to crawl various different Patreon campaigns, mainly those of furry content creators. The unauthorizedly scraped content was then published for anyone to view for free. Because of the large scale art piracy that yiff.party engaged in, it led the site to become controversial and often criticized by creators and patrons alike during its operation.

History
2015
yiff.party was created on July 23 by an anonymous 8chan user on its "/furry/" board, in response to the growing number of Patreon creators, using the platform as a paywall by forcing their fans to pay in order to view their newest works. At first, yiff.party was accessible by anyone simply by going to the site, but due to increasing pressure from its hosting providers and creators who were being scraped on the site, access was restricted exclusively to 8chan users by using a special authorization URL that checks the browser's referrer to limit access from outside of 8chan.

2016
Patreon introduced a "charge upfront" feature for creators, which allows creators who have been registered for more than a month to charge new patrons upfront for access to content, as opposed to making access instantly available and making the first charge on the following month. Creators who enabled this feature were immune to yiff.party's scraping bots, until April 2017, when yiff.party implemented a "post importer", allowing users who are pledged to a creator on Patreon to import the posts they have access to, effectively bypassing the charge upfront restriction.

2017
yiff.party introduced an account registration system, which allows users who do not use 8chan to access yiff.party. However, in an effort to prevent leeching from outside users, accounts are only given to those who promise to contribute to the site by using its post importer.

2020
On November 14, 2020, the administration announced that yiff.party would shut down after 5 years of service.

Furfag, also known as Furry Fag or Furry Faggot, is a derogatory term used by anti-furries, nonfurs, /b/tards, trolls, griefers and/or goons to describe a member of the furry community, a condescending way to "acknowledge" a fur's presence during online discussions, and/or a real life visual antagonizer (as a tag, sign, or other types of visual media), in an effort to either taunt, insult, or provoke a reaction out of the person(s) targeted.

Furries on /b/ have been seen replying to the insult with, "I've yiffed in hell. It was hot"

The most commonly used macro is that of Disney's 1973 representation of the character Robin Hood trapped in the burning Castle of Nottingham bearing the term "Yiff in Hell, Furfags". The date of creation and user are unknown.

Yiff Alley Lounge

2022-04-27T03:44:12Z

Félix: Doesn't appear to be available anymore.

Yiff Alley Lounge was a non profit adult social hangout established in the virtual world of Linden Lab's Second Life.

Founded in March 2012 Yiff Alley Lounge has been on the mission to bring the furry community of Second Life a high level of quality and standards found no where else on the grid. Owners Victoria Loveless and Lina Pussycat are committed to bring only the best and current items available as well as promoting an openly friendly non biased place to meet and mingle with fellow furs and fur lovers.

While the lounge is an adult oriented establishment, it is more than just another yiffing spot. We focus on being a community and social hangout with a fun light hearted bond that makes the lounge feel like home, thus our motto: “Home of the Misfits.”

History
The concept of Yiff Alley Lounge came together in early 2012 when both long term SL residents and partners Victoria Loveless and Lina Pussycat began contemplating starting a small self sufficient furry hangout together. The vision was to create an urban stylized lounge and yiff area focused on providing a better quality environment without pestering patrons with a commercial presence via malls and ad boards.

Since it's opening Yiff Alley Lounge has gone through four major builds.

*The Original Version (March 2012 to June 2012)- Opened up in the Helgrind sim. The lounge consisted of a very simple layout of the lounge being on the ground level with a yiff room on the second floor. The lounge hosted live DJs and events as well as offering private rooms as it continued to grow. However; after a lovers' quarrel which brought a hasty decision this build was removed.

*The Subway Version (June 2012 to October 2012) - After overwhelming support the lounge was opened back days after closing with this subway theme. During this period the lounge was downgraded to a degree and constantly changing while trying to find its place and mend emotions between the owners and fans.

*The Theater Version (October 2012 to February 2012) - Lounge was relocated from the Helgrind sim and moved to the Naughty by Nature sim.<ref>Move is Complete post on the Yiff Alley Lounge blog's News section. However, the theme might have been too dark for most people.

*Revamped Original Version (February 2012 to March 2017) - Build was redesigned, returning to the original roots following a similar layout but offering much more.<ref>"New Design" post on the Yiff Alley Lounge blog's News section.
