Fennec fox

The fennec fox (Fennecus Zerda, though recently changed to Vulpes Zerda by taxonomists) is a desert dwelling fox who ranges from the most western of Saharan Africa to the North Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Southern Israel.

Fennec comes from the Arabic word "fanak" meaning fox. Zerda comes from the Greek xeros meaning dry, describing the fennec's habitat.

These are the smallest in the vulpine family, measuring only 24 to 41 cm (Head to body) but their large ears, measuring up to 15 cm, are relative to other foxes worldwide. Their coats are light earthen shades, fawn to golden in color, much like the desert sands they dwell in. Their facial features are diminutive and sharp. Much like their facial features, their teeth are also tiny compared to their body size.

Their teeth are small because they do not hunt large prey. Fennec are opportunistic feeders and often forage for plants. Fennec also hunt prey such as insects, rodents, reptiles, and eggs. Dehydration is usually a problem in deserts, but most residents have found out ways to go on without water for long periods of time, fennec are not an exception.

Much like the Jack Rabbits of North American deserts, the large ears of the fennec radiate body heat to keep cool. The thick coat of the fennec looks like it'd be rather warm and indeed it is at night when the temperatures cool drastically, but the thick fur also protects them from the sun during the day. The pads of a fennec's feet are also covered in fur, acting as snowshoes for walking on loose sand, as well as keeping the pads from burning on the hot sand of the Saharan desert.

Fennec live in burrows and are avid diggers. Fennec live in small communities of about 10 heads and are social animals. They mark their territories with urine like other canines. Fennec compete aggressively for mates during their mating seasons, which occur around January and February. The gestation period lasts about 50-52 days with a litter of 2-5 kits. For the 4 weeks the kits will be in the den, the male stays out, as the female is very aggressive when suckling kits. The kits go out on their own after 3 months to up to a year.

They are trapped for furs. In the United States, they are bred and sold as pets (possibly in other countries as well).

In captivity, or as a pet, fennec are very playful and get along relatively well with humans. However, they are much like ferrets because of their curiosity. Digging has been a problem with private owners, it is often suggested that fennec have their own room since furniture often make great sandboxes for them.

Because of their cuteness factor and their ability to be kept as pets, fennec are a popular species in furry and are often confused with their more popular cousin the red fox, as well as kit foxes.

Gas-Mask-Dragon

Eisengel:

Gas-Mask-Dragon is a dragon/hybrid mix, expired (inactive) furry artist, and social furry. Currently located in the northwest US. [Washington and Idaho mostly.]

Also known as Gasmaskdragon Morales on SecondLife. And 'GMD' for short. GMD takes pleasure in giving back to the furry community after discovering it at the tender age of 18 via 2 the Ranting Grypon and his mp3 rant files. Having been a avid admirer of anthropomorphic creatures and characters all their life GMD feels more at home than ever in the furry community after they discovered there was a fandom for their obsession. Their player has more characters and entities than just GMD - however GMD is the main and only publicly known 'fursona', if you will, for their player. For now GMD covers many tasks and duties for the AllFurFun convention located in the Spokane, Washington area.

Eisengel: /* Fursona */

Tori Andrew Belliachi (also known as Robomilk and Cartographer) is the fursona of Shaun Hargreaves, a furry artist and writer known for producing a variety of websites and videos, as well as being a WikiFur administrator. He is a member of the fatfur, inflation, vore and transformation sub-fandoms.

Fursona
Tori named himself after Tory Belleci of MythBusters fame as a means of honouring the man's work. One notable thing about Tori's various generations (or "eras") is that all of them have been grey in colour, as well as having long black hair — with the exception of the earliest Belliachi model (sometimes referred to as Tori Betachi) which was pink.

He has a furry family which currently composes of Angelic Wolf, Daryl, Hiro Judgement, Samael and TehBrownPup.

May 2006 to May 2007
Before May of 2007, Tori's fursona was a wolf, often described as "a vampire wolf with the mentality of a fox," highlighting his love of foxes and bats without physically being one. The earliest versions of this character were more akin to kemonomimi - with a mostly human looking fursona possessing canine ears and a tail.

May 2007 to July 2008
Following a meeting with his spirit guide via a psychic it was concluded that he was actually a folf, a 82% wolf, 18% fox hybrid species. The character was changed accordingly, however many of the original attributes were retained, the tail and muzzle structure being the only major changes.

During this time a different form was also used occasionally: a one foot tall fruit bat affectionately named Tori Battiachi.

July 2008 to present
As of July 2008, Tori's fursona has permanently changed to that of a bat, with some variations of the traditional Battiachi character, notably being four foot tall rather than just one. This change is cited as to being bored of having been a canine for over two years — as well as the general lack of bats in the fandom.

This newest incarnation has been much more influenced by the Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara, one of Belliachi's political heroes.

Real life
Shaun Hargreaves (born 1991) is the child of a Malaysian mother and English father. He based his fursona much on himself; they both share the middle name of "Andrew" for example. He first found the furry fandom in November 2005 after doing a Google search relating to Scooby Doo and finally decided to become an active member in May 2006.

Shaun has a strong interest in the concept of time travel, particularly characters such as The Doctor from British drama Doctor Who and Hiro Nakamura from American series Heroes. Because of this link with his fursonas abilities, Tori has been drawn in similar situations as Hiro and the Doctor on a number of occasions.

Roles in the fandom
As a member of the furry fandom, Tori appears to have taken it upon himself to aid the progression of the furry fandom in the media through any means possible. He has also ran furmeets; including a private, all expenses paid meeting on his birthday in 2007. Tori currently helps managing the monthly Manchester fatfur meet with Little Wolf.

On websites
As well as his own range of websites, most notably FurteanTimes.com, Tori works on a number of other furry and non-furry related web design projects.

These include being an ex-moderator of The InflationNation's forum and the current head of graphic design at MyFursona, as well as a number of small or temporary jobs on other furry and non-furry related websites and forums. On June 10, 2008, he was made an administrator on WikiFur for his continual contributions to the site.

In the Furry War
Following a lot of disruption on YouTube after a furry uprising against anti-furry trolls, Tori entered the action without even noticing; he posted up a video reply to one troll and was soon inundated with comments. More videos followed and a small following gathered around. Soon he was directly challenging trolls and teased them to fight him so he could "defuse you like the time bomb of stupidity you are." In August 2007 he announced he left the war for lack of any good arguments being made against him.

As the Furry Guru
Mere days after the end of the YouTube Furry War series a new series began named Furry Guru, in which Belliachi answered questions from people both in and outside of the fandom. This series has been endorsed by a number of "celebrity" furries including Silentwulf and 2 Gryphon. It is also credited for creating a number of new furries, notably Tamias, a long-term furry spectator. This series ended in March 2008, due to personal commitments.

Funday PawPet Show

Eisengel:

The Funday PawPet Show is a weekly Internet broadcast featuring the puppetry talents of several Florida Furs, including show founder Randy "Yappy" Fox.

*Addresses:
**Web site: http://www.pawpet.tv
**LiveJournal: http://community.livejournal.com/pawpet/
* Shown on: Sundays, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm EST (GMT-5)
* Watch: http://pawpet.tv/watch/
* Rating: "TV-PG-DLS". The "DLS" is mostly irreverent comedy and mild innuendo, with much of the latter coming from the mouth of Poink. As Yappy puts it, "Don't just plop your eight year old down in front of the show and let them watch it."

The Funday Pawpet Show originated in November of 1999; Yappy and friends were working on their puppetry at his home when they came up with the idea of streaming a puppet show on the Internet. Various changes have come and gone — in equipment, location, and performers alike — but the show continues to this day, with some gaps and re-runs. The show's 300th episode aired 30 July 2006. The FPS crew also perform live shows at various conventions around the country, most notably at Megaplex.

The audience can log onto the [irc://irc.pawpet.org:6667 PawPet IRC server] and join channel [irc://irc.pawpet.org:6667/pawpet #pawpet] to chat with the performers during the show.

Characters
List of Funday PawPet Show characters
The show is hosted by a cast of animal puppets, all mostly made by Folkmanis. The primary roles are played by the main Master of Ceremonies sheepdog, Mutt, along with his sheepdog stand-in, Ezra. All the while, everyone's favorite Poink T. Ferret acts as the show's free-willed comic, often with the beloved Lili playing along with his lines.

Format
As the show is four hours long, its content is open-ended and nearly all of it is completely improvised. Aside from the opening and closing sequences, other fixed content includes:

* Roll Call, in which a cast member reads the screennames of everyone in the IRC channel;
* Art Jam, in which viewers are encouraged to send in themed artwork;
* Photo Captions, in which viewers are encouraged to send in a caption for a humorous photograph; and
* Shout Outs, which are usually read after the Art Jam and Photo Captions within the last hour of the program.

Any themes or topics for the evening are either brought up during conversation or are planned out in advance, as in the case of a cast member leaving or a statutory holiday, for example.

Spits or Swallows is an event held infrequently, in which the cast (and sometimes, guests) give their honest opinions about food items that they taste on camera. The food is usually sent in by viewers, and can range anywhere from obscure Asian beverages to new fast food items; in some extreme cases, the cast has "enjoyed" MREs and a durian.

Guests who visit the show often participate by being interviewed by the PawPets and the IRC audience, and are usually given the Pink Flamingos Challenge, in which they are asked to eat a (preferably chocolate) confection while watching the finale to the film Pink Flamingos, in which drag queen Divine eats actual dog feces (during which, "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" plays.) Because of the graphic nature of this scene, the film itself is forbidden from being seen on screen and only the guests' reactions are taped.

Recently, a segment entitled Subservient Fursuit has been broadcast on an infrequent basis. It is based on the Subservient Chicken viral marketing campaign by Burger King and features a fursuiter having their actions directed by the IRC audience. The word "Fursuit" in the title is replaced by the fursuit's name at the time of the broadcast. While the show is not intended to be rebroadcast or redistributed at any point, many of the Subservient Fursuit segments have wound up on Youtube.

Contributors
The Funday PawPet Show also features videos submitted from its viewers, ranging from homemade films to professional animated shorts to humorous commercials. Several PawPet groups across the United States have also sent in their own videos; these outside contributors include:

* Fluff & Such Pawpet Productions
* West
* Rocky Mountain
* Monterey Bay
* North Coast
* South West
* Southpaw Video Productions
* Rapid T. Rabbit and Friends

Notable Broadcasts
* Show #169 - Broadcast 25 May 2003 - the program featured three segments:
** The "Pawpet Newlywed Game" - three Florida Fur married couples play the Newlywed Game.
** A "G-Rated Uber Cute" version of the FPS, including a baby food Spits or Swallows, and over-the-top performing on a completely "clean" version of the program.
** "The Poink Show" - Poink lets loose (with help from the others), explaining the reason for the "Uber Cute" version (a flamewar on the FPS mailing list over certain subjects being "offensive").

Trivia
* The show costs around $2,400 (excluding equipment costs) for a year of broadcasting; costs include licensing for the music played on the show, as well as the bandwidth needed for broadcast.

:Increasingly, the majority of the funding for this is provided by donations, and the show has run a number of "telethons" during their history to raise funds. The most recent telethon was on 23 November 2008. As of the closing song $5,142 had been raised. The previous year raised $10,052.
* 2 recorded The Pawpet Song about his friends on the Funday PawPet Show. Lyrics
* 2 was also the inspiration for what was to become Strawberry. When visiting the show after Megaplex 2003, he puppeted along to The PawPet Song with the pink Pecker, and then in a high, skwawky voice, began to complain about arm burn as he was pressed into doing a second song. Almost two years later in 2005, after using the pink Pecker in homage to 2 to puppet to The PawPet Song, Jess used a similar voice to interact with another character afterward — and Liesl followed shortly using a similar voice with the blue Pecker — and Strawberry and Blueberry were born.
* The title animation and logo is the work of numerous people, including:
** Herbie Bearclaw (original logo)
** Rikki-Tik (flash version with singing pawpets)
** Nonsanity_Cat (After Effects version with fireworks)
** Future versions may include elements of this flash animation by Brian Reynolds
*Shawn Keller recognized the show's popularity with a half-page ad parody (as The Sundae Sock-Monkey Show) in Horrifying Look at the Furries
* The show appeared in Jim Groat's West Corner Of the Park strip on 11 April 2003.
*Many of the puppets appearing on the show were made by Folkmanis.
*Once, on a Sunday when no show was playing, Liesel tried to take roll-call in-channel and was kicked by the IRC bot for flooding.
* The Funday Pawpet Show is referred to in the Jack comic arc Those That Run.

Lyrics
The closing theme is "Bubbles in the Wine" from The Lawrence Welk Show and the lyrics are as follows:
<pre>
Good night, Good night, until we meet again,
Adios, Au revoir, Auf Wiedersehen 'til then.
And though it's always sweet sorrow to part
You'll know you'll always remain in my heart.

Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you.
Here's a wish, and a prayer, that every dream comes true.
And now 'til we meet again,
Adios, Au revoir, Auf Wiedersehen.

Good night!
