Major Matt Mason

DozeSanskrit: it would be nice, but there are issues

Major Matt Mason is a human character created by Mitch Marmel. In the early days of furry fandom, a common fan fantasy was that of a human character finding (and having romantic relations with) an attractive member of a furry humanoid species. In the mid-1980s, Mitch decided to tweak the conventions a bit and introduce the Major, who had done this as well...

On the Galaxy Local 999 storyboard on The Electric Holt, the Major encountered Tali Hartoh-Mason, whom he had befriended when her shuttle had crashed (see 'Hits and Missus' on the TaliVisions Yahoo Group). Tali's first appearance was a bit outré for the time, as she was presented as being pregnant with the Major's children (this being said tweak, a subtle jab at the consequence-free sex being presented in furrydom at the time).

Below is the Major's character sheet from 1993.

* Name: Matt Mason
* Age: Early 30's
* Organizational affiliation: Temporal Corps
* Rank: Major
* Planet of origin: Earth
* Height: 5'7"
* Weight: 215
* Complexion: Caucasian
* Hair: Brown w/neatly trimmed reddish-brown beard, mustache
* Eyes: Hazel

What if we had been all like "Hey we don't like what Hitler is doing to the Jews but let's respect his decision and tolerate the Nazi party"? I'll tell you what: All the Jews would be dead, and our movies would suck ass becase directing films is all Jews are good at.

Special abilities
Major Mason, although a longtime resident of an unstable reality level, does not share the natives' ability to shift between reality levels. Rather, he relies on mechanical means. The Major's duty vehicle, a modified aerodyne, is equipped with Burroughs-Libby ContinuaCraft mechanisms, a Maxoni-Cocini Drive, and a Thorens-P'wheet Probability Broach Drive. Over the years, the Major has acquired a number of specialized vehicles, including a Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle and a half-dozen surplus U. N. Space Force VF-1 Valkyrie mecha (these last are also retrofitted with the various time/space drives described above). These vehicles are located at the Major's residence/ warehouse near TempCorps Depot Three.

General
He is usually well prepared, with extra ammo, medicine, small tools, et cetera in belt pouches. Mechanically inclined; can fabricate equipment in the field provided suitable materials are present.

He is in fairly good physical condition; excellent powers of deduction; tends to be introspective rather than intuitive. Will take time to think things through except in urgent/life threatening situations.

The Major is currently one of TempCorps' best operatives. His experiences in a variety of timeframes and reality levels make him ideally suited for tracking down temporal anomalies and correcting them.

The Major is very gallant and he can be distracted by damsels in distress. This led to the Major marrying Lt. Commander Tali Hartoh approximately five years of lifespan ago.

The Forest is an island simulation in Second Life. While under the ownership of Anshe Chung, it is operated by members of the Second Life furry community. The adjoining furry-only residential island of Tiger Creek is considered part of The Forest, and its land tier and rental income go towards the upkeep of the main island.

Items of interest include an art gallery, a set of apartments, and the mostly-underground Forest Store, with material separated into PG, Teen and Mature levels. A pub (possibly entitled the Fox & Feather, although this may be the name of a previous pub) is being built as of February 2006. The sim's nightclub, Club Essence, is currently under rennovation.

History
stub

The Forest was created on 12 January 2005 by Spade Richelieu. In April 2005 Spade sold it to Anshe Chung, a well-known Second Life land baron, and it became part of their collection of connected island simulations, Dreamland.

Shortly after The Forest passed into Anshe Chung's possesion it was mysteriously erased. The only surviving artifact from it's previous era was half of the Fox & Feather pub. This led to a spontaneous spasm of rebuilding in which The Forest was reinvented as a woodland-themed furry sim.

Many people, both furs and humans, took part in the rebuilding. Major contributors were Thili Playfair, Miles05 Reitveld, Fargo Divine, Alazarin Mondrian as well as Chad Statosky who managed to recover and rebuild the store on his own. Countless others joined in and helped to redefine the The Forest as it is known today, with the giant tree, Yggdrasil, dominating the skyline.

Over time, further additions and refinements were added such as the treehouse apartments and the Sky Village with a runway to accomodate pilots who sought to fly the skies of Second Life. The Forest Store was later rebuilt by Obsidian Stormwind and managed by Shatner who turned it around into a revenue-earning venture for The Forest before passing it on to the current Forest administration.

Club Fur used to be located in The Forest. Shortly after ownership passed to Anshe, the club moved to Worlds. Club Essence was created in its place, but disappeared in early 2006 in "unfortunate circumstances".

The Art Gallery was opened in September 2005.

Rating
While technically a Mature-rated sim, those who wish to role-play sexual situations are asked to take it to the basement of Club Essence, or a private treehouse. Of course, many residents are completely nude all the time, but that's not really a problem when you have so much fur. Violence is not permitted in The Forest except by pre-arrangement with the Forest Guides.
