Blue Horizon is a series of stories created in 1996 by Ted R. Blasingame with the assistance of Eileen Blasingame and Steve Carter. Due to personal and work-related issues, the series was placed on permanent hiatus in 2009 and is no longer under production.

The storyline revolves around the adventures of the anthropomorphic crew of the Blue Horizon, a space freighter captained by a grey wolf making deliveries across the Planetary Alignment (a trade alliance between sixteen worlds in nine star systems). The series, which began in the spring of 1996, included many interpersonal tales between a close-knit crew as they encountered problems that arose with the company, relationships with the families and friends of the crew, brushes with the effects of war and other catastrophes, business rivalries, and repeat encounters with a stalking pirate ship intent on crushing the crew and taking their cargo.

At the end of the series, there were forty-two 'episodes' divided into four 'seasons' with a follow-up prequel, Blue Horizon 1261. Another story by the author, Hoenix, takes place in the same universe, but showcases a different cast of characters.

Books containing the collected season episodes can be purchased in softcover trade paperback from Lulu Press. The stories are also still available in the Library on the author's website, which can be read free online or downloaded as eBooks.

Sunset of Furmankind is a novel by Ted R. Blasingame, the creator and primary writer of the Blue Horizon series, the result of a three-year endeavor to write a new human/furman transformation tale that was completed in September 2011. The trade paperback is available through the author's Lulu Press bookstore, as well as online to read chapter by chapter. It is also available as an Kindle ebook through Amazon, in which all four books of the furmankind universe have been collected together in one volume.

"Follow one man's journey through psychological demons, pain and revelation through an unwanted transformation into the life of a beast destined to explore other worlds."

Convicted on the murder of a furman in a crime of passion, Brian Barrett is given an alternative sentencing to a violent capital punishment by volunteering for the Anthro-Human Colonization Program, where people are genetically altered to give them an edge in survival on new worlds opened for settlement to ease the crowding of Earth. Surrounded by furmankind and harboring a deep prejudice against the abominations, he is forced into a new identity and reeducated with extrasolar colonization skills. He must then live with the knowledge that he will become one of them in an irreversible process that will end in a journey to another world where they will be his only companions. The long and painful transformation takes a physical and psychological toll that he must endure in order to survive.

A follow-up novel called "Second Chance" was completed in the spring of 2014. Another story set in this universe called "A Wilder West" was written concurrently with "Second Chance" and completed in the summer of 2014.

The original novel was over 333,000 words in length, so in late 2015 it was split into two books with the three sequential novels now making up a "Furmankind" collection — Book 1: Sunset of Furmankind, Book 2: Lost in the Wilderness and Book 3: Second Chance. Although A Wilder West is not a direct sequel to the original "Sunset" storyline, it has been included as part of the collected Kindle e-book release.

As of spring 2013, Ted is working on two other stories taking place within the Furmankind universe: Second Chance, a direct sequel to Sunset of Furmankind, and A Wilder West.

Blue Horizon was a series of stories written by Ted R. Blasingame, Eileen Blasingame, and Steve Carter, begun in 1996. Due to personal and work-related issues, the series was placed on permanent hiatus in 2009 and is no longer under production.

The storyline revolved around the adventures of the crew of the Blue Horizon, a space freighter captained by Merlin Sinclair, an anthropomorphic grey wolf making deliveries across the Planetary Alignment (a trade alliance between sixteen worlds in nine star systems). The series which began in the spring of 1996 included many interpersonal tales between a close-knit crew as they encountered problems that arose with the company, relationships with the families and friends of the crew, brushes with the effects of war and other catastrophes, business rivalries, and repeat encounters with a stalking pirate ship intent on crushing the crew and taking their cargo.

As of 2009, there were forty-three 'episodes' divided into four 'seasons' with a new related project recently completed called Blue Horizon 1261. Another of Ted's major stories, Hoenix, takes place in the same universe but showcases a different cast of characters.

Books containing the collected season episodes can be purchased in softcover trade paperback from Lulu Press. The stories are also still available in the Library on Ted's website.

Hoenix is an anthropomorphic spin-off novel from Ted Blasingame's Blue Horizon series. The series was was placed on permanent hiatus in 2009.

"Aramis Thorne was a wolf with no memories of a possible past life of piracy. When he is approached with an old starship of questionable reliability, his life takes a turn for discovery and tragedy with the legend of an ancient city's treasure snapping at his heels."

Hoenix was originally presented on the Blue Horizon website in individual chapters as they were written. After completion, the story was released as a self-published trade paperback novel through Lulu Press, and was later in the final nomination for Best Anthropomorphic Novel in the 2004 Ursa Major Awards. The book was reviewed by Fred Patten in the October 2004 edition of The Claw & Quill.

The story was removed from the website in December 2004 when the manuscript was formally submitted to commercial book publisher, Baen Books. In early April 2006, the manuscript made it up through the second-level editor with a good review, but was returned with a few recommended changes to the story for reader clarification. Changes were made and the rest of the manuscript was given a full polish before being resubmitted directly back to the second-level editor. Once the changes were accepted, it was to go up to the senior editor, Jim Baen. Unfortunately, Baen (founder of Baen Books) suffered a stroke and passed away in the summer of 2006. Toni Weisskopf, a 19-year veteran of Baen Books, was appointed Publisher and Senior Editor of Baen Publishing Enterprises later that year.

The manuscript for Hoenix was originally submitted to Baen Books in 2004, and although it passed through two editorial tiers with positive remarks, it was culled out on May 31, 2007 (after 2 years, 5 months) with many others due to a backload build-up of manuscripts following Mr. Baen's passing and Ms. Weisskopf's appointment as Publisher.

In a second attempt at commercial publication, the manuscript was then submitted to Daw Books, but after 11 months, the author received a standard rejection form letter on May 10, 2008.

As of September 4, 2008, a revised manuscript was resubmitted to Baen Books. However, on February 15, 2009, it was discovered through the Baen message board that the slush pile process is still backlogged and that very few manuscripts are being read. The manuscript was formally withdrawn from Baen consideration due to this. Subsequent attempts for commercial publication were unfruitful.
