:I just checked them since they came from my IP address.
:The most recent one seems to be mere clarification. Putting quotation marks on ''alleged'' doesn't make sense no matter how I look at it.
:The first one seems no more non-neutral than the rest of the paragraph; it may actually be more informative, since not much has been sourced in either case. (PS This is my first edit! Hello!) [[User:Chibithulu|Chibithulu]] 17:48, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
::I'll agree with the fake/alleged clarification, on second look that doesn't seem to be a problem. But the takedown request edit is still too POV, but you are right in saying that the paragraph (indeed, it seems, the whole article) is POV and needs sourcing. Given how a lot of these sites operate, I get the feeling that they aren't generally receptive to takedown requests, especially if they think the art in question might provide them with some amusement or drama for a while.

Deafleas: /* Stereotypes within the fandom */ wonky?

The [[furry]] subculture receives significant '''stereotyping''', as most groups have at some point in time. Stereotypes can arise from virtually any facet of a group or demographic, depend partly on trends within the demographic, and are usually formed from the experiences and biases of the viewer or their friends. Some furry stereotypes have more than a grain of truth to them; however, many others fail to hold up under closer scrutiny of furry [[:Category:People|fans]] and [[:Category:Culture|culture]].

== The Furry Stereotype ==
[[Image:ShawnKellerTypicalFurryFan.png|right|thumb|208px|A "typical furry fan" from [[Shawn Keller]]'s ''[[Horrifying Look at the Furries]]'']]
Furry fandom member demographics have traditionally mixed with the worlds of [[science fiction]], fantasy, computing, and video gaming. The stereotype of the [[furry fan]] often bears a close resemblance to the stereotype of the nerd and/or geek: a hairy, overweight [[male]], often unwashed, and living in his parents' basement while surfing for [[pornography]] on the Internet.

The particulars of furry fandom and culture involve fewer common interests, and what outsiders frequently consider strange, unusual, or bizarre takes on the wider fantasy and [[funny animal]] genre. This has led to the furry stereotype being presented as much more extreme than typical geeks. For example, one list of some extra stereotypical points that have often been attached to furry fandom would paint most furries as:

* [[gay]] or [[bisexual]]
* overweight
* [[zoophile]]s
* [[plushophile]]s
* [[fursuiter]]s
* socially inept
* usually homely or ugly
* [[Wikipedia:Misanthropy|misanthropic]]
* unpopular

These common portrayals of the fandom are based on several factors, such as the apparent larger than average percentage of individuals in it who are gay, bi, lesbian, or [[transsexual]] - a point which itself is debated within the fandom. Of course, the image of a social furry fan who has mostly mainstream, unremarkable interests and hobbies is not as titillating to sensationalism seekers in the general public, or groups such as [[Something Awful]]. Even when people who are furries happen to pursue [[erotic]] art, engage in activities like sexual [[plushophilia]], or are [[furry lifestyler|lifestylers]], many are really much more responsible for themselves and the impression they give of the fandom than those who dig for examples to support stereotypes might admit.

No matter how many fans there are who would fit the image of an unremarkable and less controversial Furry fan, there remain those who take part in less common activities, exhibit outrageous or unwise behavior, or provide a relatively rare fit with the most extreme stereotypes. These have, more often than not, been singled out and held up as symbolic of furry fandom.

Fans who are frustrated by stereotyping often believe that this is all it takes to prove the stereotype to "outsiders". Other furries have asserted that this fear is responsible for "witch hunts" within the Furry community, including attempts to repress or drive away people percieved as undesirable before they become noticed.

Another view put forth by other Furry fans and some persons outside the fandom is that the enterprise of collecting, advertising, or reinforcing stereotypes is often carried out by individuals who would also fit a number of parallel stereotypes about genre fans, Internet users, and geek culturists. This view has led some to dismiss the entire topic, especially when it relates to online activities, as geeks battling geeks in a war to one-up each other with negative propaganda.

== Stereotypes within the fandom ==

There are also stereotypes within the furry fandom itself. Some of these are external stereotypes, circulated by furry fans who wish to distance themselves from the unpopular image of furries or hold them up for criticism (see ''[[Skunk (comic)|Skunk]]'', ''[[Horrifying Look at the Furries]]'', and the [[Burned Furs]]).

Other stereotypes are specific to the internal culture of the fandom. Since the Furry genre places emphasis on animal characteristics, certain popular stereotypes are based on the favored [[species]] association of a given individual, especially among fans who have a [[personal furry]] or role-play frequently. The stereotypical attributes that a certain creature bestows on a person may or may not be based on the accurate behavior of the real animal; metaphorical and mythological traits are fair game. In the instance of creatures which are mythological to begin with, their attributed behavior might be inspired more by fandom conventions than traditional mythologies and stories.

It should be noted that many fans circulate and use species stereotypes as humorous cliches which are not intended to cause offense. It is common for Furry fans to examine themselves to see where they fit within the list of supposed behaviors.

Some examples of species-related stereotypes include, but are not limited to:

* [[Dragon]]s are pretentious, attempt to appear wise and cultured, and often follow a [[wonky]] form of mysticism. If female, they are fangirls of [[Wikipedia:Anne McCaffrey|Anne McCaffrey]]'s ''[[Wikipedia:Dragonriders of Pern|Pern]]''.
* [[Unicorn]]s are aristocratic, and prideful about their appearance.
* [[Equine]]s are "size queens", into bondage and [[Wikipedia:Pony play|pony play]].
* [[Male]] [[fox]]es are frequently gay or bi, overly sexualized and submissive, and are an overexposed choice of character.
* [[Female]] foxes and [[vixen]]s are usually male players, even more overly sexualized, and not bright.
* [[Gryphon]]s are obsessed fans of [[Wikipedia:Mercedes Lackey|Mercedes Lackey]] fiction and can be capricious.
* [[Rabbit]]s are neurotic and paranoid, or are sexually promiscuous, and often enjoy being [[vorarephilia|edible]].
* [[Wolves]] behave like alpha males, arrogant and expecting to be treated as leaders. Alternately, they are sometimes purported to act like big foxes.
== Policies and content ==

This board does not feature a list of people that draw furries that don't want them posted. Although polite takedown requests from said people are usually heeded, impolite or impatient takedown requests from artists are often disregarded. Due to pressure from [[furry artist]] [[Jeremy Bernal]], whose filed repeated [[Wikipedia:DMCA|DMCA]] takedown notices for WTFur, posting of his art or other media from [[Sexyfur|Sexyfur.com]] is considered a bannable offense.

As it was with [[WTFux]], its main [[furry]] directory image is a singular topical board called '''/furi/'''. This allows all manner of media topics to be displayed, ranging from clean art to adult material, to straight to gay sexual content, to [[vore]], [[Wikipedia:Coprophilia|scat]] and [[cub art]], all posted side-by-side.

Because of this, there have been several requests by users to subdivide this master board into smaller categories, using a model similar to other imageboards such as [[Fchan]]. The official stance of the moderation team is that requests of this nature will be ignored, and when questioned about this decision, ex-moderator [[Mellis]] responded thus why the reason of a single unified board:

{{q|People are going to bitch [about images] with or without separated boards, because there are a lot of people who are thin-skinned or just like to argue or be 'category zealots'. Personally, I would rather deal with ONE board where people are complaining about what should and should not be posted, than seven or eight or however fine you want to subdivide categories'' - Mellis}}

== 2006 server move ==
[[image:GovWTFur.png|250px|right]]
On July 25, 2006, in preparation to moving the site to a new server, WTFur's splash page was replaced by cho0b with a fake notice from the US [[wikipedia:fbi|Federal Bureau of Investigation]], [[Wikipedia:NSA|National Security Agency]], [[Wikipedia:MPAA|MPAA]], and the [[wikipedia:RIAA|RIAA]], "informing" the viewer that:
{{q|This website has been closed by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, in association with the United States National Security Agency, the Motion Picture Association of America, and the Recording Industry Association of America; pending a federal investigation.}}
With the addition that their [[wikipedia:IP|IP]] has been logged, and to:
{{q|Please stay where you are. You will be contacted for questioning regarding the investigations related to this website.}}
Clicking on "''Piracy Doesn't Pay''" lead to a placeholder image board on the server (/temp/,) with the title '''/pedofur/'''. Finally, until the move was completed, all hosted images were archived in a single [[wikipedia:rar|RAR]] image, and uploaded to the [http://thepiratebay.org/ The Pirate Bay], a [[Wikipedia:BitTorrent|BitTorrent]] tracker.

The original "takedown" image can be found at [http://vxbinaca.beevomit.org/ Vxbinaca.beevomit.org], under the section "''7/24/06 FBI Takedown joke page.''"

== Relocation changes ==
[[Image:Wtfur2.png|right|thumb|Old Lulz logo|400px]]
The board re-appeared on August 25, 2006 as "Lulz.net." A European server was also chosen due to more lax copyright rules overseas, which meant that what little of a DNP copyright protection "WTFur" had could now be completely disregarded.

== Controversy ==

==== Single board approach ====

Many visitors to Lulz take issue with the board's "''hands-off''" approach to posting and moderation, allowing all manner of media content ([[Wikipedia:MPAA_film_rating_system|PG]] to [[Wikipedia:MPAA_film_rating_system|X]], straight, gay, vore, scat, cub art, etc...) to be posted mixed, side-by-side on the site's single board.

Though controversial, the moderators defend this choice by reasoning that it will expose users to art or [[Artist|artists]] they would not have seen otherwise, and that because users are prone to complain about posts in categories no matter how finely they are divided, dealing with those complaints in a single board only saves the moderation team a great deal of time. And so, any future requests by users to subdivide the content of the board into smaller categories, will, as stated before (see "Policies and content",) be ignored.

==== Moderators' actions/inactions ====

Furthermore, there have been accusations of the moderating staff standing ''idly by'' in the past as a direct result of these policies, when threads have been posted that users object to, but do not necessarily break any of the site's rules, or the moderation team is slow to remove spam or invasion posts from the page. Though there have been requests by a small group of users to take down threads featuring [[Cub|cub]] or commercial work, such as work by [[Palcomix]], the moderation team does not appear to remove such material.

==== Cub art ====

When questioned in particular about 'cub porn' and the policy on the site of such material after one of many such threads caught the eye of [[CrushYiffDestroy]], the moderators of the site responded with the following:
{{q|While I whole heartedly agree that child pornography is not something that should be smiled upon, I feel that I must reinstate the fact that 'cub porn' is not child pornography<ref>[http://crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2478&highlight=lulz cho0b and "cub porn" art on Lulz.net]</ref>}}
{{q|If users think that a thread contains morally offensive images or text, they can sage the thread until it is [[permasaged]] into nothing}}
{{q|Enforcing rules based on morals is not the job of the moderators and/or administrators of an imageboard site}}
These policies have been in place since Lulz's inception, and, for better or worse, remain unchanged to this day.

==== Admin split, board shutdown ====

On November 30, 2006, Arcturus cut-off cho0b's access to the WTFur server, under the assumption he had given mod password access to the /furi/ board to what was thought to be "many random people." The act was largely considered damage control by the moderation team at the time, as the new user or users with this password deleted the bans in place on the page for posters of kiddie porn, bestiality and guro, and immediately afterwards banned several of the more frequent tripcode-using users.{{fact}}

cho0b, confused as to why he could not login to any of his sites, redirected the Lulz.net domain name. That night, Arcturus purchased the domain name [[Sidechan|Sidechan.net]], and setup the DNS to point it at what was currently lulz.net, transferring all of the content from it to the new site, while deleting all data owned by cho0b hosted on his server for the websites WTFux.org, digital-jihad.net, w-t-c.info, 4-20.info, and a few others.{{fact}}

After cho0b inquired about the reason he did all this, Arcturus responded that it was because "''You fucked with me''."<ref>[http://lulz.net/logs/Arcturus.20061211.html Arcturus and the "You fucked with me" explanation]</ref>

==== Sidechan gets hacked ====
[[Image:Sidechan1.jpg|right|thumb|Sidechan gets hacked|280px]]
Only a week before Sidechan went down, cho0b (using the pseudonym '''jihad''') said the following to Arcturus at the end of a lengthy discussion:

[jihad] i mean it might be good to think it over, you might be a bit steamed up right now
[jihad] don't want to make any rash decisions :)
[Arcturus] Is that a threat?
[jihad] why would i need to threaten you?
[jihad] it's not like i have all your information or anything like that

On January 7th, 2007, Sidechan was hacked by someone posting by the name "jihad" (believed to be cho0b), and all of the boards were wiped clean of their content, with an advertisement for lulz.net popping up on /furi/ before sidechan went down completely.

== 2007 (back on line) ==
[[Image:LulzLogo.png|right|280px]]
Lulz came back on line the same day Sidechan was hacked in January 2007. The set-up is still a single board approach and a lack of a [[DNP]].

The front-page sported a temporary photoshopped version of the Sidechan logo, with name changed to "lulz.net" (using the [[wikipedia:Disney|Disney]] font,) and sidechan's mascot '''Downsy''' "head-[[wikipedia:Fisting|fisting]]" the persona of [[4chan]]'s moot.

==== Additional changes (3/22/07 - 5/31/07) ====

*sticky threads finally implemented
*management panel totally reworked
*collapsed threads stay collapsed when you leave the page and come back
*janitor panel reworked (janitors cannot ban or sticky/unsticky threads; can delete posts/images)
*added choice to return to the current thread or go back to the main thread list after posting

== Lulz.net's DDOS of 4chan ==
People from irc.lulz.net tried to force [[4chan]] to move to their IRC Network and then they DDOS'd 4chan to try to force them. But its owner [[moot]] refused to give into the terrorism and eventually the DDOS stopped. <ref>http://www.geocities.com/kakamafive/</ref> <ref>http://www.purepwnage.com/forums/index.php?act=Print&client=printer&f=2&t=64171</ref>
The paragraph "Many visitors to Lulz take issue with the board's "hands-off" approach to posting and moderation, allowing all manner of topics ranging from clean art, standard straight and gay art of a sexual nature, to vore, scat and cub art, to be posted side-by-side on the site's singular topical board, /furi" is listed twice on two different sections, Melly, just FYI [[User:Spirou|Spirou]] 18:23, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
== Recent Edits ==

Someone needs to validate the two most recent edits to this page. They seem awfully POV, although I know nothing about this. Thanks. [[User:Simba B|Simba B]] 16:09, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
::Anyone have thoughts on slapping an NPOV template or sourcing-request template (don't know that one yet) on this article? [[User:Simba B|Simba B]] 18:00, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
:::''The board re-appeared on August 25, 2006 as "Lulz.net," having lost its prior name due to legal proceedings with furry artist Jeremy Bernal. An European server was also chosen due to more lax copyright rules overseas, which meant that what little of a DNP copyright protection "WTFur" had could now be completely disregarded.'' This blows past POV and right into full on editorializing. Simply noting the server moved to Europe (since "overseas" is subjective; America is "overseas" if you're in Japan) and leaving it at that would be most fair.

A '''babyfur''' is a member of the [[furry fandom]] who enjoys roleplaying younger characters. They may also be an Adult Baby and/or [[Wikipedia:Diaper Lover|Diaper Lover]] (collectively known as AB/DLs), or is otherwise involved in [[Wikipedia:Infantilism|Infantilism]]. There are many different types of furs in the babyfur community, each focusing on different aspects and roles. Like [[furry]] in general, babyfur culture involves a good amount of [[role-playing]] (either light or heavy), both online and in the real world.

The community has been growing more and more popular since the mid- to late 90's. While the community itself is still part of the furry fandom as a whole, it is large enough to present sufficient leaders, politics and drama to give the community a nearly independent feel to it.

Role playing babyfurs will most often take on the role of a furry character in his/her infancy or childhood. Common roleplaying themes include "cute" [[clothing]] (onesies, footy pajamas, overalls, diapers) and a child's environment such as a nursery or day care center, complete with cribs, high chairs and babyish decor. A few babyfurs lucky enough to afford the privacy and devotion will set up adult nurseries to role play as children in real life. A sexual subset of this type of roleplaying is known as [[ageplay]].

[[Image:Rieva-little.JPG|thumb|350px|right|Babyfurs in a Nutshell.<br\>Art by [[LoupGarou]] [http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/LoupGarou], character by [[Rieva]]]]

==Terminology==
===Babyfur roles===
There are a few sub-groups within the babyfur community which are often described with the following terminology :

*'''Babyfur''' : Used to describe the group as a whole, however, specifically it referrers to someone that roleplays as younger, up to the human equivalent of toddler age, characters. Baby paraphernalia is most likely to be involved for this group and role played speech is often either in gibberish or very basic speech.
*'''Lilfur (littlefur, kidfur)''' : This is a person that roleplays as a child character. Characters identified as lilfurs tend to between their toddler and teen ages. Diaper and other baby paraphernalia may or may not be involved. Role played speech is usually more refined at this point, but still somewhat juvenile.
*'''Diaperfur''' : This is a person that roleplays as an adult character that still either requires or choose to wear diapers. Role played speech and actions are consistent with an adult. The person may also roleplay an adult character that is mentally regressed back to a younger state, but still has an adult physical form.
*'''Sissyfur''' : This is commonly misunderstood as a person that roleplays a [[male]] character, either adult or child, that is forced to dress and act as a young [[female]] character. Truthfully, a sissyfur is anyone, male or female, that enjoys regression leaning toward a very feminized and sissified look and attitude.
*'''Caretaker''' : As the name suggests these are the people that roleplay caretaker characters, a 'mommy' or 'daddy' figure for other babyfurs.

Many people don't identify with one single group, but can change roles depending on the situation and who they are interacting with. It's also not uncommon for complex lineages (for example siblings, parents, etc) to be set up among other babyfurs so that roles can be defined.

==Definition of AB/DLs==
These are general non-furry terms but are useful to understand in this context.

*'''Adult Baby''' (AB) : A person that enjoys regressing back to being a baby. Beyond regressing using physical or environmental changes (such as diapers, clothing, and settings), they also mentally regress, taking the mentality of a baby. These are the equivalent to 'babyfurs' or 'lilfurs' when crossed with [[furry]]. Teenagers who are Adult Babies will sometimes refer to themselves as Teen Babies (TBs).

*'''Diaper Lover''' (DL) : A person that enjoys regressing back to being a baby, but limits the regressing to an environmental change (such as wearing diapers or using baby paraphernalia). These people, unlike AB's, will usually not regress physically (adopting a baby form) or mentally. These tend to be the equivalent of 'diaperfurs' in the babyfur community. For some DLs, but not all of them, there is a fetish connection to the diapers and baby play. They will sometimes take the submissive role to a caretaker in sexual play, and the caretaker will take a dominant role.

*'''Infantilist''' : Essentially, [[Wikipedia:infantilism|infantilism]] regards any person who enjoys regressing to the mental age of an infant or toddler, and may or may not involve diapers and other baby paraphernalia.

==Baby things (and why)==
From the Adult Baby (AB) angle of AB/DL, regressing individuals prefer to behave and be treated as much like a baby or toddler as possible. To do so successfully achieves in many babyfurs a comforting, secure or blissful feeling. Various paraphrenalia help to satisfy these preferences:

===Clothing===
Many babyfurs enjoy wearing all sorts of clothing. Some say the cuter it looks, the better it is. Such articles of clothing include the following :
*[[Wikipedia:Overalls|Overalls]]
*[[Wikipedia:Shortalls|Shortalls]]
*[[Wikipedia:Booties|Booties]]
*[[Wikipedia:Dresses|Dresses]]
*[[Wikipedia:Onesies|Onesies]]
*[[Wikipedia:Pajamas|Pajamas]]
*[[Wikipedia:Pants|Pants]]
*[[Wikipedia:Footed sleepers|Footed sleepers]]
*[[Wikipedia:Mittens|Mittens]]
*[[Wikipedia:Bows|Bows]]

Many male babyfurs find they enjoy being dressed as little girls as well, and are sometimes called ''sissyfurs''. The classic baby bonnet (seen frequently in certain [[Looney Toons]] episodes) is not very common among babyfurs, which might be attributed to the fact that modern society doesn't find real babies wearing them either.

===Plushies and toys===
Just like clothing, interacting with [[plush toy|plushies]] and toys is very contributive to the cub experience. Toys range in age from baby toys to toy cars and action figures. As long as cubs get to interact with one another though, toys are not always the focus in a roleplay.

===Objects===
A toddler's life is not complete without many of the following items. Many babyfurs use these objects in online roleplay and would love to be able to use them in the real world :
*Cribs
*Walkers
*Strollers
*High chairs
*Car seats
*Booster seats
*Pacifiers
*Baby bottles
*Sippy cups
*Talcum powder
*Bubble baths

In addition to physical objects, some babyfurs also find a keen interest in actions like [[wikipedia:blowing a raspberry|blowing a raspberry]], being held, or watching old television shows that are no longer available on TV. Many old children's shows such as 80's and early 90's cartoons on [[Wikipedia:Nickelodeon|Nickelodeon]] were the same shows some babyfurs watched when they were little, and reminiscing about them leaves a nostalgic warmth.

===Diaper usage (and why)===
Diapers are an item frequently used while "cubbing out". Like other aspects of babyfur, this can be done in the virtual world, the real world, or both. There are many babyfurs, however, that while they will wear diapers in online roles, do not in real life. Many babyfurs will wear diapers in real life for a feeling of security and comfort, but will not use them for their intended purpose. At the other end of the spectrum, there are some babyfurs that, either by choice or by necessity, wear and use diapers all the time.

Why babyfurs wear, and possibly use, diapers in the real world is varied. For some, they are forced to wear them because of a medical condition and have no choice in the manner. These people have often blended their real life situation with their furry persona. For others, it is a way they can regress into their [[fursona|furry persona]]'s age. Some others see the diapers as a connection to their furry persona, paralleling a [[tail]] or [[fursuit]] in the general furry community.

The wearing (and especially the use) of diapers in the real world are at the heart of many issues that some members of the furry community in general have with the babyfurs. For example, it is not generally considered appropriate for a diaper user to soil themselves at [[convention]] in the presence of other [[furry fan]]s - or to put themselves in a situation where this is likely to happen - yet individuals have been known to do this, to the detriment of the group's reputation.

==Babyfur behavior==
When cubbing out in both the real world and in online roleplaying, the level of connection to the role will vary between each player. Some babyfurs will become so involved and yearn for such an authentic childish mentality that they will use speech impediments and [[Wikipedia:baby talk|baby talk]] to communicate. Very few babyfurs make a habit out of using babytalk in the real world, similar to a [[Wikipedia:gay lisp|gay lisp]]. Depending on the situation, a babyfur could even develop a habit of whining or crying to get what he/she wants from a caregiver or another roleplayer.

In light online [[role-playing]], babyfurs may toddle, crawl and wag their tails playfully while the sounds of crinkling diapers abound. Pouncing, giggling, cuddling, [[snug]]gling and tummy rubbing ensue with the maximum possible level of cuteness.

Child-like behaviour, baby animal sounds and an emphasis on [[cuteness]] are widespread among [[furry fans]] when among themselves, even those who don't call themselves babyfurs and who don't participate in other babyfur activities described here, such as diapers or baby clothing.

While most babyfurs are closely attached to the development of young [[human]]s, a different approach can be found in online [[role-play]], where newborn [[zoomorphic]] and [[anthropomorphic]] [[characters]] often grow up at a similar pace as wild animals, doing without accessories such as diapers and learning to walk in a short time. This has the practical advantage of sooner getting into an age that allows interesting role-play even for non-babyfurs when playing a character since birth. As in nature, opinions on when a character can be considered adult vary greatly.

===Cubbing Out===
"Cubbing Out" is a general term used by the community to describe roleplaying as a babyfur character. This can either be roleplay in the virtual world or the real world. Usually it will involve one or more regressed characters or people interacting with each other or with a caregiver.

"Padding" and "Getting Padded" may also refer to cubbing, in particular regarding to being diapered.

===The caregiver's role===
Caregivers (or caretakers) are the 'mommy' and 'daddy' figures in the roleplay. For the most part, they interact with other babyfurs as a mother or father would with their child. This can include playing with, cleaning or disciplining the younger character.

===Babyfurs at furry conventions===
Just like furries in general, babyfurs go to [[convention]]s to spend time with friends and express their [[furriness]]. For many, that includes their babyfur aspects too. One may see many babyfurs dressed in juvenile clothing and with various paraphernalia because that is part of how they choose to express themselves. To some babyfurs, dressing in such a way is no different than other furries wearing ears, tails or fursuits.

At many [[convention]]s, hotel rooms are set up as gathering places for babyfurs to socialize privately. Two of the most notable are the [[C'ubhouse]] and [[Nursery]] run by [[LilPup]] and [[Snuggems]], respectively.

==Community leaders and important babyfurs==
The following babyfurs are among the most known and respected in the furry fandom, recognized here for their contributions and devotion to the babyfur community:
*[[BabyTiger (person)|BabyTiger]] has been a member of the babyfur community since 1998, A Canadian Babyfur who has a strong presence at the Canadian conventions such at [[C-ACE]] and [[Anthrofest]], organizing and hosting BabyFur gatherings. He also works and helps out with newer babyfurs in the community, making them feel welcomed and lending a paw to any who need the help.

*[[Karis]] owns and maintains [[Karis' Playground]] [http://karisplayground.com/], featuring a large collection of babyfur and AB/DL images by artists of all rank. Karis' Playground also offers a store where visitors can purchase prints of babyfur art by various professional artists, including [[Marci McAdam]]. Karis was the first person to make babyfur/diaper art available at furry conventions, thus pioneering the community known today as "Babyfurs."

*[[LilPup]] and [[Lil Kitt]] run and manage the [http://babyfur.com/cubhouse/ Babyfur C'ubhouse] at furry conventions for babyfurs to get together and have fun. LilPup also runs the [http://babyfur.com/ Online Babyfur Community], a central website that features the [http://babyfur.com/bfpl/ Babyfur Proximity Locator] (BFPL) for babyfurs to locate one another around the world. Like Swift and Orca, LilPup works to improve the relationship between babyfurs and non-babyfurs at conventions and to help babyfurs maintain a positive reputation in the furry fandom.

*[[Orca (person)|Orca]] co-moderates the Babyfurs mailing list with SwiftFox. He maintains the Babyfurs mailing list and an external file archive. He routinely reports links to interesting or humorous online articles relating to AB/DLs. Orca is also the famed inventor of the [http://orcinus.dynip.com/AB_DL/Orca_Stack/index.html "Orca Stack."]

*[[Proxima Centauri]]'s name is perhaps the first name known to newcomers to the babyfur community as they search to satisfy their newly found interests. Proxima runs [http://www.nurserytails.ca Nursery Tails], one of the longest running AB Furry pages, dating back to 1997 (before the term "babyfur" had existed) and featuring thousands of babyfur art, fiction and multimedia files. Though it is in dire need of a new layout, the webpage still runs strong today.

*[[Snuggems]] is most known for running the Nursery at Anthrocon, a room devoted to giving to those kids and cubs at heart who need to be cared for. Although it started up first and despite that the two meeting spots have different ratings and features, Snuggems' Nursery has been often been said to view the C'ubhouse as competition.

*[[Swift Fox (person)|Swift Fox]] has been a member of the babyfur community since its inception in the mid to late 90's. He writes babyfur fiction, has been owner and moderator of several iterations of the Babyfurs mailing list, and hosts several furry and AB/DL events in the Pittsburgh area. ([http://www.swiftsden.net Swift's Den])

==Babyfur art and literature==
A few of the authors and artists in the babyfur community are :

===Artists===
*[[Marci McAdam]] is the most popular [[artist]] in the babyfur community. Although she is not a babyfur herself, her professional abilities and open-mindedness make her one of the best artist around. It is often said that a babyfur isn't officially a babyfur until he has purchased a badge or commission from Marci McAdam. Her babyfur art can be found for sale at her husband's website, Karis' Playground, and her other art is located at [http://furries.frithcat.com/ Marci McAdam's Furries]. Due to her time constraints in doing professional art, Marci is unable to take fandom-related commissions anymore.

*[[BushyCat]] appears at several furry conventions and is well known for her humorous-yet-innocent take on babyfurs as well as other alternative genres of furry art. Some of her creations have more human-like qualities than other artists tend to portray in their characters.

*[[JadeFox]] is one of the more active babyfur artists in the community, offering special contests and events for fans to participate in. The majority of his work is based on his own character or other babyfurs' characters. His drawings are especially creative and imaginative, bringing out only the most treasured aspects of childhood, as well as very innovative clothing design (featuring several brands and companies of his own devising). [http://www.furryjadefox.com/ Furry Jade Fox]

*[[Kelvin the Lion]] is a fairly popular artist whose current endeavors include (among others) the progressive webcomic ''[[Nivlek]]'', about the adventures of Nivlek the [[snow leopard]] who enjoys wearing diapers and eating. Nivlek remains to be one of the more amusing "weird" furry comics out there, and his talent does not go unnoticed. The latest rendition of CS Fox's site, [http://www.foxtalestimes.com/ Fox Tales Times], is being completed as this article is written. Its biggest feature is CS Fox's renowned AB/DL RPGM2K-based game, Weston Academy. The website also sports plenty of comics and art related to the RPG.
==Babyfur as a paraphilia==

===Babyfurs and pedophilia===

Like other furry fans, babyfurs often exhibit sexual attraction to anthropomorphic animals by participating in [[TinySex]]. But because this usually involves adult players [[roleplaying]] sexual situations involving prepubescent characters, the question of whether babyfurs are [[Wikipedia:Pedophilia|pedophiles]] often arises.

Babyfurs generally assert that roleplaying as underage characters doesn't imply sexual attraction to such characters. For example, some roleplay as young furries due to a longing to be young again, and have no sexual element to their roleplay.

Of those that do participate in sexual activity, some are interested in (for example) the fantasy of submission to an adult figure. Those who have TinySex with other babyfurs sometimes argue that if there is no adult '''character''' involved, the activity is not pedophilia. Others may stress that since characters portrayed are not '''human''', it is not meaningfully pedophilia. Outsiders often disagree, since the activity still involves actual adults taking an interest in prepubertal persons depicted in sexual situations.

This debate applies equally to visual and written depictions of babyfurs in sexual relations, and disagreements are often intense, between those with concerns about pedophilia, those who feel babyfur is distinct from pedophilia (because of players' identification with characters or the species of those characters), and those who don't care who enjoys it just as long as they're not forced to see it.

===Babyfurs vs. non-babyfurs===
The concept of babyfurs is quite contentious with some members of the [[fandom]]. Some furries and non-furries who have identified themselves as babyfurs or were identified by others as being babyfurs may have acted inappropriately at [[convention]]s in the past. Such contentious behavior has allegedly included wearing diapers in public without using proper hygiene and trying to push uninterested people into babyfur roleplay, including sexual roleplay. These behaviors are frowned upon by the babyfur community in general, and such incidents, if perpetrated by babyfurs, are done by a small number of babyfurs within a larger babyfur community. The community in general adopted guidelines of conduct for how to act in public after a rash of such alleged incidents at conventions in an effort to police themselves.

Furries who dislike babyfurs may do so for a variety of common points, including:

*Grossed out by the concept of diaper lovers (or, in the aforementioned cases, by the smell)
*Concern that some babyfurs may be pedophiles
*Previous negative experiences with those who identify themselves as babyfurs or were identified by others as being babyfurs.
*Fear that babyfur behavior will be associated as a characteristic of the general fandom, especially in the media

While there is some conflict between babyfurs and the general fandom, such conflicts should not be overstated. The majority of babyfurs and non-babyfurs coexist quite well because the majority of babyfurs do not engage in the more extreme behaviors mentioned here.

Deafleas: /* Community leaders and important babyfurs */

==Terminology==
===Babyfur roles===

==Definition of AB/DLs==

==Baby things (and why)==

===Clothing===
Many babyfurs enjoy wearing all sorts of clothing. Some say the cuter it looks, the better it is. Such articles of clothing include the following :
*[[Wikipedia:Overalls|Overalls]]
*[[Wikipedia:Shortalls|Shortalls]]
*[[Wikipedia:Booties|Booties]]
*[[Wikipedia:Dresses|Dresses]]
*[[Wikipedia:Onesies|Onesies]]
*[[Wikipedia:Pajamas|Pajamas]]
*[[Wikipedia:Pants|Pants]]
*[[Wikipedia:Footed sleepers|Footed sleepers]]
*[[Wikipedia:Mittens|Mittens]]
*[[Wikipedia:Bows|Bows]]

Many male babyfurs find they enjoy being dressed as little girls as well, and are sometimes called ''sissyfurs''. The classic baby bonnet (seen frequently in certain [[Looney Toons]] episodes) is not very common among babyfurs, which might be attributed to the fact that modern society doesn't find real babies wearing them either.

===Plushies and toys===
Just like clothing, interacting with [[plush toy|plushies]] and toys is very contributive to the cub experience. Toys range in age from baby toys to toy cars and action figures. As long as cubs get to interact with one another though, toys are not always the focus in a roleplay.

===Objects===

===Diaper usage (and why)===

==Babyfur behavior==

===Cubbing Out===
"Cubbing Out" is a general term used by the community to describe roleplaying as a babyfur character. This can either be roleplay in the virtual world or the real world. Usually it will involve one or more regressed characters or people interacting with each other or with a caregiver.

"Padding" and "Getting Padded" may also refer to cubbing, in particular regarding to being diapered.

===The caregiver's role===
Caregivers (or caretakers) are the 'mommy' and 'daddy' figures in the roleplay. For the most part, they interact with other babyfurs as a mother or father would with their child. This can include playing with, cleaning or disciplining the younger character.

===Babyfurs at furry conventions===

==Babyfur art and literature==
A few of the authors and artists in the babyfur community are :

===Artists===

[http://www.geocities.com/kelvinthelion/index.html Kelvin's Furry Den]

*[[FangKit]] has been drawing babyfurs for most of this decade, and continues to improve his artistic talent. His unique style and knack for cuteness and humor combine to make him favored by babyfurs throughout the community. [http://www.babyfox.org.uk/foxnip/ FangKit's Pics]

*[[OzzyFox]], a student of animation at the Art Institute of Houston, consistently produces work on a regular basis that ranges from cuddly-cute to controversial and mature. [http://foxcrib.sk1p.com/ Fox Crib]

*[[IkazuchiFox]] (commonly known by friends as "Ikajuicy") is found in the definition for "ubercute" listed in UrbanDictionary. He is one of the few amateur babyfur artists with work unique and notable enough to be recognized by the fandom. Although Ikazuchi has not done a sketch for a long time, it is the hope of many furs that he will start drawing again.

*[[Astolpho]], also known to his friends outside the furry community as [[rootdown]], has a technique characterized by light, open outlines, bright pastel colors, and innocent expressions. Some of Astolpho's work is now available at Karis' Playground.

*[[Cargo Weasel]]'s art leans strongly toward the "DL" side of "AB/DL," showing off mature diaper-related concepts that fit perfectly with his coloring and shading style. His art was featured on a now-defunct mailing list, but can still be found on his website: [http://www.cargoweasel.com/ Cargo Weasel: Art Complex]

*[[Familliar]], a relatively new artist to the scene is a regular at the Blue Furry [[Oekaki]] board run by [[Guppy]]. Already a fan favorite within the babyfur community, Familliar regulary draws pictures of both his own character creations as well as that of his commissioners in his own charmingly creative & endearing way. His artwork can be found at: [http://http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/familliar/ Familliar's FA website].

*[[Aramitz]]'s artwork focuses almost exclusively on the "DL" side of commisions for the babyfur community. His unique style is characterised with bold, thick & prominent inking lines set against the subtle use of cell-shaded coloring. Aramitz currently maintains galleries at all the major prominent furry art websites such as: [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/aramitz/ Aramitz's FA website].

===Art ''about'' babyfurs===
Some [[furry fandom]] artists have covered the topic of babyfurs, typically taking the same line as [[:Category:Media coverage|external commentators on the entire fandom]]:

===Writers===
*[[CS Fox]], also known as Kit Fox and Cyprus Sygial, is possibly the best known babyfur writer in the community. His works are the biggest features in the stories section at Nursery Tails, and since his submissions to Proxima's site he has gone on to host his own website showing off babyfur fiction of his own and by newer babyfur writers.

*[[Firemane]]'s fiction is prominently featured on CS Fox's fiction page.

*[[Fieval Mouse]]'s work is still favored by many furs. His stories are roughly 5 years old and are found on Proxima's Nursery Tails, featuring illustrations by Doodles.

*[[Athalon]] is another notable furry writer who has written the lightly famous [[The Milkshake Club]].

==Babyfur as a paraphilia==

===Babyfurs and pedophilia===

===Babyfurs vs. non-babyfurs===

==Babyfur online==
Babyfurs have a well established community full of art, resources, and as many modes of communication as the rest of the furry fandom.
::::Essentially, what Spirou said. In general links to ED articles are not encouraged, becuase they do not attempt to give an balanced or attributed individual point of view, but a collective work that is deliberately slanted towards the emphasis of drama. That is what that site is all about. Usually it is more appropriate to reference the actual sources, rather than link to ED's editorializing.
::::If there is a link to ED on a WikiFur article, then there had better be a good reason for it, and WikiFur's regular contributors should agree with that reason.
'''''Trigger Happy TV''''' is a British hidden camera television show, produced by and starring Dom Joly. The series is known for its surreal sketches and Joly's characters. The show relates to the [[furry fandom]] in that many sketches include actors wearing [[fursuits]].

===Recurring sketches involving fursuits===
*[[Dog]]s that violently beat each other up the streets.
*A gang of [[squirrel]]s that randomly attack a pedestrian (who is usually played by Joly).
*A pair of white [[rabbit]]s that mount each other in public settings.
*Joly, disguised in a trench coat, dark glasses and a hat, playing the role of a KGB spy. In some situations he approaches pedestrians on a park bench and attempts to hand them his briefcase, addressing them with code words such as "grey squirrel" and "[[red fox]]". While the shocked pedestrian tries to explain to Joly that they are not the right person, an actor wearing the appropriate animal costume is seen walking by in the background.
*A [[rat]] which Joly (dressed as a chef) chases out of a restaurant kitchen.
*Two people in a horse suit have done various pranks. The most extreme was when the horse suit walked down the sidewalk to the entrance to an alley, but still visible to the public. Out of the suit, a long fake-looking horse penis emerges (at least a foot long). Then out of the penis, yellow liquid (the horse suit does not look real so this liquid is likely not urine) comes out onto the sidewalk.
'''Furry Latino''' was a website specifically made for spanish-speaking [[furries]]. It combined the news elements of [[Dutchfurs]] and [[FurAffinity]], an art portal, forums, a chat room, a section for poetry, and an [[oekaki]] board. FurryLatino also had an separate area for adult material.

* '''Address''': http://furrylatino.net/
*'''Founder''': [[Alek Fuchs]]
*'''Administrators''': Alek Fuchs, [[Ahumeniy]], [[Miguel Estrugo]]
*'''Ran from/to''': 2003 - July 21, 2006

The website was 99% in [[Wikipedia:Spanish language|Spanish]], with a few English [[Wikipedia:loanword|loanwords]], specifically fandom ones, such as "[[furry]]," "[[fursona]]," and "[[yiff]]". Furry Latino had over 270 members, of which at least 10 were on at any given time. It also had over 70 personal galleries from Latin artists. It was run by Alek Fuchs, of [[wikipedia:Mexico|Mexico]], from November 2003 until March 2005, followed by Ahumeniy until April 10 of that same year, when [[Miguel Estrugo]] took over, in a planned takeover helped along by Fuchs. Following the "coup," all of Ahumeniy's information was erased from the website's database.

== History ==

FurryLatino's roots can be found on the [http://groups.yahoo.com/group/furrieslatinos/ ''FurriesLatinos''] Yahoo! group, which was created on October 2003. That group includes a variety of Spanish- and English-speaking furries. Two months later, a more ambitious (technically speaking) project was born. Initially, '''FLA''' - an abbreviation for ''Furry Latino America'' - (shortly called just as "Furry Latino") started on Metropoliglobal with one of its founder's accounts. Soon after, the website moved to its own domain, furrylatino.com, due to its growth in popularity.

*In December 2004, the website changed its hosting and its domain to '''furrylatino.org''' and changed its core code from [[wikipedia:PHP-Nuke|PHP-Nuke]] to [[wikipedia:Xoops|Xoops]].

*In December, 2005, FurryLatino lost its .org domain and moved to '''furrylatino.net'''.

*In March, 2006, FurryLatino switched to its 3.0 version based in [[wikipedia:Joomla|Joomla]] and Alek Fuchs transferred leadership to Ahumeniy.

*April 10, 2006: Miguel Estrugo, named administrator by Alek Fuchs, took leadership of '''FurryLatino''' by changing Ahumeniy's password; Ahumeniy then deleted his own account.

*April 15, 2006: Miguel Estrugo was named Furmaster ("Furry+[[Wikipedia:Webmaster|Webmaster]]") by Alek Fuchs after he gave his approval to the takeover.

*May 23, 2006: The front page of the site was replaced by Alek Fuchs with a graphic thanking everyone for their support of the site for almost three years. The graphic was accompanied by the text: "''El Zorro Rojo les agradece haber sido participes de este portal hispanoparlante dedicado al Furry Art; Temporalmente permanecera cerrado mientras redefino las cosas...''" (translation: "''The Red Fox thanks you for your participation in this Spanish-speaking portal dedicated to furry art; it will remain temporarily closed while I redefine some things''".)

*May 28, 2006: After some drama, FurryLatino goes online again

*July 21, 2006: The website is now offline.

*April 16, 2007: The domains furrylatino dot org and com points again to a FLA related index; And an "Alpha Counter" is visible.
**Yes, that would be a convenient way for you to dismiss my contributions and go on violating his privacy for no reason, so I'm not surprised that you suspect that. However, as you can see, if you followed by edits more closely and weren't just reacting, I've forgotten to log in a couple times and have exposed my IP.
Aside from the zip code and IPs, basically the personal info is what he puts up on his websites that are linked to. It would be nice if one day Wikifur had an article on him in Category:Aardvark characters instead of simply a vandal page. [[User:Tretonin|Tretonin]] 08:33, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
*It'd be a good troll tactic against him, that's for sure. However, if you want an accurate furry database here, that would be a bad idea, since he's not a furry. [[User:Redfur|Redfur]] 09:08, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
== Encyclopædia Dramatica and furries ==

The site's material on furries is generally about the worst of the fandom. However, most of its users aren't [[anti-furry]], and ED claims it only makes broad generalizations of the [[furry fandom]] and portraits all furries as sexual deviants because it is, according to ED, far more humorous and interesting to read about something scandalous and shocking.

Furries are welcome to edit there as long as they follow the site's policies and refrain from vandalizing.<ref>[http://tinyurl.com/2v7vvs Furries welcome page on Encyclopædia Dramatica]</ref> Besides criticizing the fandom in general, some furries use it to criticize specific individuals, particularly ones who they feel make furries look bad or to make private drama very public and persistant.

== Controversy ==

=== Drama ===

The most common criticism of Encyclopædia Dramatica is that its purpose of documenting drama often results in the promotion of drama, be it through invasions, pranks, or reposting of sensitive information.

=== Copyright ===

Another common criticism is a seeming disrespect for [[Wikipedia:intellectual property|intellectual property]] and [[Wikipedia:copyright|copyright]] law. The sensitive information that appears in ED articles is typically gathered from long-forgotten, obscure corners of the internet, and is usually upsetting to the subject, to the point of legal threats and action. Encyclopedia Dramatica relies on the satire and criticism fair use exception clauses of United States copyright law as a defense. Their [http://tinyurl.com/2lanph Arbchat procedure] is the sole method of information removal and revision that does not involve the legal system.

The website states that all content contributed is irrevocably "licensed for infinite use to Encyclopedia Dramatica, in electronic and all other media."<ref>[http://tinyurl.com/26p5l7 Encyclopædia Dramatica's copyright information]</ref>

=== Privacy ===

The site has an unwritten policy against revealing private information of those it satirizes. This is generally not applicable to public figures, and those whose information is well-known or easily obtainable.

However, in this instance an article contains a person's real name, home address, phone number, google earth image of their house, and personal photo, and when someone tries to remove it, administrator [[Blu Aardvark]] reverts it: <nowiki>http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php?title=Smugfag&diff=1997135197&oldid=1997135195</nowiki>
The most common criticism of Encyclopædia Dramatica is that its purpose of documenting drama often results in the promotion of drama, be it through invasions, pranks, or reposting of sensitive information.

=== Copyright ===

=== Privacy ===

The site has an unwritten policy against revealing private information of those it satirizes. This is generally not applicable to public figures, and those whose information is well-known or easily obtainable.

However, in this instance an article contains a person's real name, home address, phone number, google earth image of their house, and personal photo, and when someone tries to remove it, administrator [[Blu Aardvark]] reverts it: <nowiki>http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php?title=Smugfag&diff=1997135197&oldid=1997135195</nowiki>
without access to nor One, nor the Muck account itself (database,
do need a stronger online presence to answer the growing number
of requests. Mages will deal with all aspects of online life that
Wizards do. They can @toad, suspend and @boot if they need to.
They will mostly handle Character management. Please give few
The Cardmod format had top DDR Furries fighting it out while a variety of modifications were applied to arrows to increase the difficulty. There were even moments where DDR was played with no music, with a participant singing the song the words to the song being played, and even with a small white tiger plushie purchased by Tiger's mother. The competition was fierce but in the end [[Eternal]] became a two time winner of the AC DDR Tourney. [[Tiger of the Wind]] hopes to expand on the mod format for next years tourney.
'''Yiffy Yaffle''' (also known as '''Wolfee Darkfang''' in other places around the web) is a character solely existent in the virtual world of [[Second Life]].

Yiffy/Wolfee is a spiritwolf mystic. This animal spirit guide is very small, purple and white furred, with wings which can change shape at her will. She is very noisy, and equally cheerful. Previously a administrator of the Second Life simulation [[The Forest]], a [[furry]]-themed [[island (Second Life)|island]], she then performed the same tasks in [[Serenity Woods]], a furry-owned sim, after leaving with the other administrators.

She held the position of Head of Security, keeping peace by making sure that troublemakers do not harm the residents or visitors. Her side task is to manage the [[Furry Art Museum]] in the western side of the island, which contains artwork from various artists in the Furry Fandom. This artwork can rate from G to XXX but is tasteful. When the sim was purchased from [[Foxkin Impfondo]] by [[Ron Overdrive]] in late February of 2007, The Admin Structure was slightly altered to allow 3 new guides and 4 subdivided administrator roles.
She was given a new role as Head Builder. Accepting this role she still maintains the Security of the island by managing the islands SLBanLink setup. Security is now in the hands of any guide or staff member. She has been a Resident of [[Second Life]] since November 19th, 2004, where she is a [[furry artist]], and a seasoned Scripter/Builder. She is renown for her famous quote from a SL Gesture "Weee!" Following it with a back flip and 2 barking sounds for the cuteness factor.
'''U. Michele Bowr''', or '''Bowr''' for short, adds a touch of [[science fiction]] to the otherwise medieval setting of the [[webcomic]] ''[[The Intolerators]]''. He is an intelligent [[reptile]] who arrived from another planet. His purpose here is a mystery, perhaps even to himself. A bruise to the head that he received shortly after his arrival may be the problem.

Currently Bowr passes himself off as a foreigner who just moved into town. Paranoid of the social and perhaps political consequences of sharing his origins, and just not wanting to be dissected, he tries to lead a 'normal' life in his new home, first by assisting the local Intolerators [[Tserisa]] and [[Libby]] against a rash of lactose problems, and finding employment with the anti-lactose agency Lactaide by joining up as the third and newest member to Tserisa's team.

Bowr has [[Wikipedia:Photophobia|photophobia]], which often requires him to wear dark glasses. He also has a fetish for firearms, referring to his [[Wikipedia:Winchester Model 1912|Winchester shotgun]] as 'Kally.'
