He was a guest of honor at Albany Anthrocon 1997 and Eurofurence 14.

Watts contributed to FurVersion and YARF!, and edited and published both FurBytes, a short-lived electronic furry fanzine, and Mythagoras, a semi-professional furry publication published sporadically throughout the 1990s. In October 2004, Watts launched a short-lived fiction webzine, Claw & Quill. After years of plotting to relaunch it as a curated story archive, he announced plans in 2013 to form a non-fiction online magazine under the same title.

Many of Watts's stories are set in Ranea, a fantasy setting with humans and anthropomorphic animals in a world where magic is treated as an engineering discipline and technology is at a roughly Victorian level. Two of the most famous early Ranea stories are novellas featuring Revar Desmera, a vampire bat.

Mythagoras was a furry fanzine published in Tampa, Florida. Five issues were produced:

* Mythagoras #1-3, edited by Watts Martin, Bill Biersdorf, and Franklin Veaux (1990)
* Zoomorphica #1 (Mythagoras #4), edited by Watts Martin (1992)
* Mythagoras, Vol. 2 #1, edited by Watts Martin (1997?)

Mythagoras was noted for high production values, particularly in typesetting and in the covers of Mythagoras #3 and Zoomorphica #1. It was, unfortunately, also noted for high production costs, which helped sink it. The final attempt, several years later (Volume 2) had a focus on magic realism with a "furry slant" in an attempt to broaden its appeal, but had very poor distribution and a problem-plagued production process.

Contributors through the magazine's history included Watts Martin, Bill Fitts, Tom Verre, M.C.A. Hogarth, Zjonni, Chuck Melville, Paul Kidd, and Michael H. Payne, as well as Hugo winner Lawrence Watt-Evans and Nebula nominee Lawrence M. Schoen. While most of what was to have been issue #4 became the sole issue of Zoomorphica, there was some notoriety for an Empires comic from Chris F. Grant that never happened.

While Mythagoras never achieved a terribly high level of visibility thanks to its erratic production schedule, it was cited as an influence on Sofawolf Press later on, and the first three issues have sold at conventions for substantially higher than cover price.
Revar Desmera is a vampire bat character in two furry novellas by Watts Martin, A Gift of Fire, A Gift of Blood and The Lighthouse. The novellas were originally published in the furry fanzine YARF!, where they were illustrated by Zjonni, and were subsequently republished online. In a fan survey taken circa 1992, Revar and her stories were as well-known to many furry fans as popular comics characters of the day like Erma Felna.

Trivia
* Though a species of vampiric bats, the general physical description of Revar's species indicates that they are more likely flying foxes. The mention that they were magically created and are unaware of this magical creation seems to support this theory, as does the notion that they would prefer not to kill their prey. Revar's own apprehension about having to be a vampire, within the stories, seems to further support this theory.
I updated to reflect the magazine's apparent demise and streamlined the other publications / external links, as well as wikifying them a bit. (I made the "link to the store" that Cubist mentioned above a single link to the store, not individual items within the store, but did link items to their Wikifur pages.) I also removed the templates that called for references and copy editing; it doesn't look like it needs significant copy editing to me, and I don't see much that's not at least implicitly referenced, i.e., the description of the magazine's contents is pretty easily verified by going to the magazine's web site.

Anthro was a bimonthly furry online fanzine which started with its September/October 2005 issue. The work carried a number of regular features, and a complement of stories, poems, interviews, and factual articles.

Anthros editor/webmaster was Quentin 'Cubist' Long, who performed similar duties for his other (now dead) fanzine TSAT. Michael W. Bard -- Long's partner-in-crime -- initially performed associate-editorial duties as he'd previously fulfilled for TSAT, but stepped down after Anthro #6 (July/August 2006). Neither Long nor Bard considered themselves to be furries when they started Anthro; Bard later came out of the closet, but Long still maintains his distance.

The inspiration for Anthro was a conversation between Quentin and Phil Geusz at the 2005 TSA-Bash about the lack of online furry publications focussing on quality written work. Long's primary goal for Anthro was to make it a known source of high-quality furry material, including stories, art, columns, fact articles, poetry, webcomics and reviews. The intent was for it to turn into a reader-supported paying market.

Anthro went on "unplanned hiatus" in October 2010. A comeback was announced in August 2011, and the magazine produced two more issues at the end of that year. While no formal notice of the magazine's end has been published, no issues have been produced since December 2011.

Contents
Columns
:Through the Looking-Glass. Michael Bard's column (formerly editorial) about how furdom looks to one who is new to it.
:Down the Rabbit Hole, by Phil Geusz, which focuses on the relationship and interactions between furdom and mundane society.
:Reality Soundbites, by Keith Morrison; this column, whose first installments appeared in TSAT, addresses the question of how to make stories believable.
:The Red King's Dream, by Wanderer Werewolf, which touches on (among other things) the more-furry aspects of roleplaying games.

Comics
:Zebra Girl, Joe England's excellent webcomic about a woman transformed (by random magickal mishap) into a horned, hooved, three-eyed demon. Anthro presents the comic with England's permission, at a rate of about 8 strips per issue, starting from the very beginning.
:Castle Horsetooth, Oren Otter's and Eala Dubh's comic strip (currently on hiatus) about the fairy-tale adventures of valiant Sir Fluren and his noble steed Briarwood in the kingdom of Jaywardia. The events of the first storyline, The Case of the Six-Cent Song, bore a curious resemblance to Sing a Song of Sixpence; the second storyline is entitled Plague and the Pilfered Posies.
:Sandusky, John Pergaman Jr.'s webcomic about the misadventures of a boy and his cougar. As with Zebra Girl, this comic is presented in multiple-strip packages, with its creator's permission, starting from its first strip.

Editorial
:From the Editor's Maw, in which Long explores whatever topic strikes his fancy.

Other Publications
In addition to Anthro online, the magazine produced both print and electronic books available through Lulu. As of January 2015, the catalog was still available, and included:

* ANTHROlogy 1, 2 and 3: Omnibus collections of Anthro magazine
* The First Book of Lapism: A collection of four of Phil Geusz Lapist stories
* The Human Memoirs: A science fiction novel by Greg Howell first serialized in Anthro
FurRag was a furry fiction archive which caters to all types and genres of furry literature. It was built on the EFiction archiving software and offered multi-chapter story creation, automated word count, and fields for story summaries and authors' notes, per story and per chapter.

History
FurRag was started in 2005 with the goal of being the definitive furry fiction archive, dedicated to catering to all tastes and all genres. Deployed in Beta form in time for the 2005 National Novel Writing Month, development stalled after the coder who'd assisted FurRag's founder, Alex Vance, had to leave the project.

Toumal, founder of the Yiffstar archive, offered the use of his site's codebase several times, and Alex passed on several of the features he'd originally planned to implement, some of which later appeared in Yiffstar and its successor SoFurry. (such as the availability of an oekaki-board connected to each story, easier chapter navigation, and a more extensive favorites system).

In April 2007, after several months of working on the project solo, Alex announced that FurRag was now out of Beta. Thoroughly redesigned, the site featured a sleeker interface and expanded functionality. Users can choose to receive e-mail notifications when an update has been made to a story, collection or by an author they've marked as 'favorite' and FurRag now features an integrated review system rather than having an automated bridge to the site's forum, as implemented in the Beta version (the code for this bridge had been provided by Toumal).

Collections
FurRag was the first furry site to offer "series" or "collections." A collection is a set created by a user which can contain any story available on the site, and stories can be part of an unlimited number of collections. Anyone who found a collection they were interested in could mark it as a 'favorite' and receive notification whenever a new story is added to it.

Collections could also be made "open," in which case any reader could add stories to the collection, or "moderated," which offered the same freedom but which required the collection's creator to approve a story's addition to the collection. The notion was that readers with a particular set of interests would start groups for those interests, and add any story they encounter that's relevant to those collections.

FurRag's collections can be seen in very similar form on SoFurry (as "groups") and in a somewhat similar form on Weasyl.

FurRag and SoFurry
During the development of SoFurry, plans had been made to merge FurRag's user base into the new site. FurRag would have then been slowly shut down. After considerable outcry from the FurRag user community over perceived differences in focus--FurRag being seen as more of a writers' community than a reader-focused archive site--these plans were shelved. FurRag continued as an independent site. While Alex continued to provide hosting for FurRag, he withdrew from day-to-day operations, joining SoFurry's staff as a designer.

Data Breach and Shutdown
In September 13, Alex posted a message to FurRag's forum:

<blockquote>
I've been made aware of a list of usernames, e-mail addresses and MD5 hashes that has been leaked and determined that it was stolen from FurRag on 2 September.

For the security of our users I'm putting the site in Maintenance Mode until further notice, while I seek help in investigating the source of the security breach, the nature and extent of it, and what solutions there can be.

In the meantime, I advise you all to change the password on any accounts you have that use the same e-mail and password combination as you use for FurRag. Note that this is precautionary advice: there's currently no evidence that anyone has access to your password.
</blockquote>

Alex believed that the list contained usernames from multiple sites that used the EFiction software. A follow-up post on September 29th announced FurRag would not re-open:

<blockquote>
I've had only limited success in securing information about why the list of usernames, e-mail addresses, and password hashes was able to be retrieved. (...) I've reached out to a few nerd acquaintances, none of whom are available to review and overhaul the codebase. This is understandable; it's a massive amount of work and it's a serious responsibility.

(...) All this means that, as it currently looks, FurRag is destined for the knacker's yard. We can't in good conscience keep the site up, knowing that our users' information is at risk due to unknown and unfixed security flaws in the codebase. We don't have the resources to fix it ourselves.

FurRag will be shut down, but I'm currently investigating how to best do that. On the one hand, it would be good to leave the site on in a read-only fashion so that folks can get at their stories and comments and archive them somehow; on the other hand, doing so would prevent folks from being able to delete stories, or their own profiles, should they not wish them to be available anymore. Further, it does not currently appear that the eFiction codebase even has a facility for a read-only mode.
</blockquote>

In February 2014, Chipotle was given access by Alex to the source code and database in order to create a static version of the site, allowing existing content to be read but not added to. FurRag's forums remain open.

Site mascots
When the site was first created, Alex Vance commissioned artist Kamui to design four characters to represent the four user types originally devised in FurRag's functionality scheme. With the April 2007 update, the number was reduced to three. The mascots were Jack Rad, a fox who represented the reader; Nick Brilliant, a solitary wolf who represented the writer; and Dick McCritic, a raccoon who represented the editor.
Alex believed that the list contained usernames from multiple sites that used the EFiction software. A follow-up post on September 29th announced FurRag would not re-open:

<blockquote>

</blockquote>

While I know it might be considered a bit sketchy for me to come along and surreptitiously remove references on my own page (well, surreptitious if there wasn't version tracking, and if I wasn't writing this bit of explanation), I suspect it's not all that useful to point at the rather broken Bitbucket repository of the Claw & Quill iteration that's never likely to happen. Frankly I'd forgotten it was still up and available -- it's actually rather out of date even for where the failed archive ideas were going. :) --Chipotle 18:34, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

Cupcakes
Cupcakes is a line of novellas - works of fiction that fall between short stories and novels - the result of authors Kyell Gold, Rikoshi and foozzzball teaming up with publisher FurPlanet in 2009, with the first in the series being published in 2010.

The name came about because full length novels are, as Gold describes them, cakes, and so the stories produced by the Cupcakes brand are "the same flavor and quality, but in a smaller size". Gold also explained that the emphasis in the writing would be on the characters - "One of the things that really ties our work together that we all really agree on and feel passionate about is that our stories are all, at the core, about the characters. And for all three of us, character comes first."

As of January 2013, the series comprises six works - Bridges, Science Friction and Winter Games written by Kyell Gold, The Peculiar Quandary of Simon Canopus Artyle written by Kevin Frane, Dangerous Jade written by foozzzball and Indigo Rain written by Watts Martin.

Argyll Productions
Argyll Productions is an alternate imprint of FurPlanet. Where the FurPlanet name is used on works primarily targeted at the furry community, Argyll is used for works believed to have broader appeal to science fiction and fantasy readers.

Conventions
FurPlanet sets up as a vendor at six to twelve furry conventions per year and previously offered conbook printing services. FurPlanet has printed conbooks for: Rocket City FurMeet 2006, Furry Weekend Atlanta 2007, Rainfurrest 2007, Oklacon 2007, Rocket City FurMeet 2007, Rocket City FurMeet 2008, Oklacon 2008, Furry Fiesta 2009, Oklacon 2009 and Furry Fiesta 2010.

"A neutral and factual resource"
So I come across this article and think: "huh, maybe Vivisector isn't just about nasty attacks on furry fandom as a whole and specific furry individuals when they see a target of opportunity." So I go to Vivisector's front page blog.

* "Angry About Furries": "The Chewfox Incident and it's [sic] unfolding follow-up once again reveal that the furries have no clue whatsoever how to deal with the real world."
* "Welcome to Your Doom": Introducing Vivisector as "committed to bringing you the weirdest, fruitiest, dumbest, most fucked-up shit the furry scene has to offer."

Okay then.

I know WikiFur doesn't have the same rigorous insistence on a NPOV as Wikipedia does, and I'm as much a fan of deadpan humor as the next guy, really, but... c'mon, folks. Is there any indication that Vivisector's editors have even a passing interest in looking for "fucked-up shit" from the "anti-furries," or indeed any indication that they're interested in any "philosophical discussion" that's deeper than "ooh, I found more freaks to mock!"?

:It's standard operating procedure on WikiFur to give sites like Vivisector far more credibility than they actually deserve because Greenreaper himself says WikiFur isn't based on facts, it's based on "what you believe". So if someone believes Vivisector is a "neutral and factual resource", that's perfectly acceptable by WikiFur's standards.

:I'll leave the question of whether Greenreaper's habit of providing soapboxes and megaphones to nutcases makes WikiFur a credible resource for information on Furry fandom as an exercise for the reader. &mdash;Xydexx 14:19, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

::If someone believes that, then yes, their belief should probably be mentioned, though not necessarily stated as fact. Would you rather we only included your belief that it is not? --GreenReaper(talk) 14:24, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

:::I'd rather we had an encyclopedia that focused on Furry fandom instead of documenting fetishes and drama. Maybe some day someone will start one. (A reliable Furry news site would be nice too, since Flayrah's partnership with Burned Fur-owned Furryne.ws and nutball-owned Vivisector doesn't inspire confidence.) &mdash;Xydexx 14:40, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

::::Non-page-related follow-on moved to User talk:Xydexx#furryne.ws --GreenReaper<sup>(talk)</sup> 00:25, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Getting back here rather belatedly, my point was simply that the article tries so hard to avoid the slightest suggestion that Vivisector is a troll site that it gets, well, a little comical. Spirou suggested "hey, you have a keyboard" (which is indeed true!), but... how do I put this. I'd like to know whether there's an editorial preference that these things aren't brought up, or if it's simply that nobody with a keyboard has taken the time to do so.

* "Big Hot Tranny Mess": "A tale of David Simpson's slow descent into madness."
* "The One That Got Away": An accusation that Allison 'Javachickn' Reed "molested her dog on camera and got off scot-free."

Why Coyotes Howl (ISBN 0-9712670-7-3, 212 pgs.) is a collection of stories by Watts Martin published by Sofawolf Press in January 2005, with a cover illustration by Heather Luterman (Kyoht).

Of the fourteen stories collected here, nine have been published in other furry fanzines or small publications. Included in this anthology are:
*Why Coyotes Howl
*Dreams Are For Vixens (Touch 1, 1992)
*Still Life, With Espresso (Mythagoras Vol. 2, 1998)
*The Fence (The Furkindred, 1991)
*Seeing Things
*Beast (Mythagoras 1, 1990)
*The Moon In Water
*The Fox Maiden (Fanzine 3, 1996)
*Vertical Blanking (Xero 1, 1997, as Recondite Directives)
*Only With Thine Eyes (FurVersion 14, 1987)
*Daughter of Shadows
*Without Evidence
*Going To The Dogs (Reagent 1, 1989)
*Traveling Music (Mythagoras 2 – 3, 1991)

It includes an Afterword by the author, wherein he mentions that when preparing these stories for this collection he went back and reedited them, fixing what he felt were glaring errors in the original versions. He also mentions that Without Evidence is a previously unpublished story set in the world of Ranea. He didn’t include others because “most of them are available in other forms for people who look hard enough, either in back issues of YARF! or internet story archives.” He hints that a book collection of these Ranea stories is “not out of the question.”

Watts Martin has been involved in furry fandom since the late 1980s, primarily as a writer and fanzine editor/publisher.

He was a relatively frequent contributor to FurVersion and YARF!, and edited and published Mythagoras, a semi-professional furry publication published sporadically throughout the 1990s. Several of his stories were set in Ranea, a fantasy setting with humans and anthropomorpic animals in a world where magic is treated as an engineering discipline and technology is at a roughly Victorian level.

Martin's most well-known stories are the two novellas featuring Revar Desmera, a vampire bat: A Gift of Fire, a Gift of Blood and The Lighthouse (both serialized in YARF!). He also contributed to The Furkindred, and appeared in the Best in Show anthology edited by Fred Patten with the story "How George Miles Almost Saved the World" (also originally from YARF!).

Sofawolf Press published a collection of his stories, Why Coyotes Howl, in 2005.

Watts currently lives in the San Francisco Bay, California area as a web developer.
