Eurofurence
Eurofurence 3 was a European furry convention that took place from 21 to 24 August 1997 at Bodstedt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany. 59 participants attended the event, which was the first Eurofurence to be organized by Cheetah.

The convention took place in a former GDR youth camp, a site that was organised by Raschkar on short notice, after the original post-EF2 plans to hold EF3 in Bingen, Germany turned out to be the pipe dream of a single person, and nowhere near feasibilty at all. The convention site held the typical East European charm (something to later find its match in Eurofurence 9, described by Uncle Kage as Stalinesque gas chambers) . It was the first one to have a separate art show and dealers room in one of the outlying buildings of the convention site (actually a gymnasium). The convention also had a darkened video room, which, due to the high outside temperatures (35+ degrees Celsius), earned itself a number of nicknames.

Trivia
* Thomas Mezösi and Terrie Smith were the winners of the popular vote for the T-shirt design contest.
* The convention received press coverage by the Ostsee Zeitung.

DoPE (the Department of Pawpetry Entertainment), is the crew behind the pawpet show at Eurofurence. The show is also known as the LSD Show, as it was originally set at Lionel Scritchie's Dormitory. Despite the drug-refering puns of the acronyms, the only drugs involved in making the show are pure and utter nonsense along with a great love for puppetry.

History
The initiative for the show came from Fairlight, who took his lion pawpet to ConFurence 11 and met TeddyRuxpin of West, who was organizing the pawpet events at the convention. Fairlight immediately became addicted to puppeteering and organized a short music parody show for Eurofurence 6. Additional puppeteers on that show were Lynard, Eisfuchs and Jaryic. Due to the smashing success, the LSD Show became one of the main events of the following Eurofurences.

Contributors
Since Eurofurence 8 the stories have been written by Cheetah and Eisfuchs. Cheetah is also the director and sound effect creator of the show. The head puppeteers are:
* Eisfuchs (performer and voice of Lori the naïve vixen)
* Fairlight (performer and voice of Poke the big-mouthed and perverse ferret)
* Lynard (voice and performer of Lionel C. Scruffycat the rational lion)
* TaniDaReal (voice and performer of Mika the tough snow-leopardess)

Additional long-time puppeteers and stage-hands are FinFarenath, o'wolf, Tigerseye, Xan and Zefiro. Backdrops have been designed by TaniDaReal. Props, additional puppets and various set elements usually get designed and built by various crew members. The puppet stage manager and assistent director is Reesa. Sound and pre-recordings engineer is Jaryic, lights are operated and designed by Nightfox. The crew also includes the Eurofurence video documentary staff under direction of BigBlueFox and additional helpers for scene-shifting, curtain operation and lighting. The show at Eurofurence XI had more than 20 people on staff.

Among the special guests on the LSD Show were Lisanne Norman, Chairo, Uncle Kage and Heather Alexander.

:::Alas, I believe politics happens whenever more than two people are involved. :-) Given unci's existing record of good contributions, I'm sure we can work together to find a solution which everyone can live with, for the WikiFur articles at least. ::::I'm perfectly happy with the new solution and seperate articles for the font and the convention. It's also much closer representing things like they really are, and not so much an individuals ideologic wishes :) --Cheetah 01:08, 14 Nov 2005 (UTC)

::::: If people are talking about me on their own talk pages, I hope I can add something to clarify. I don't care how the convention is run, as long as it's in Europe and has enough capacity that all furries are welcome, it can be named EuroFurence. As one of those who started it all (together with Tes-Tui-H'ar who provided the location and actually deserves most credit for starting EuroFurence) I think that it wouldn't be right if the term was monopolized by any individual or organisation - it should be free for anyone to use. I currently have no interest in going there, but that's no political agenda, I just like the smaller, more personal cons/furmeets better. Regarding the articles in wikifur, they should be neutral, so I'm happy for any edits by someone unrelated with the founders or organisers. (How about ordinary con-goers?) - Unci 11:29, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)

:::::: Unci, if you want your opinion to matter, take responsibility. There is no such thing as "influence but no responsibility". Become a Member of Eurofurence e.V.. It's democratic. Every furry can join, the statues and the law guarantee it. Take part in running the con. That makes your opinion matter. Right now, you're just bitching. Stating that you don't care about EF, but still using it to boost your ego, disqualifies your criticisn. I don't care what your personal convention preferences are. Nobody does. Mind your own business. Run your own con, if you will. Just don't meddle with ours. I don't understand why you're so obsessed with the name of something you supposedly don't care about any more.

:--Cheetah 23:45, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)

:: Tes-Tui-H'ar, unci or anyone involved with the creation of EuroFurence have never given anyone, including the organisation Eurofurence e.V., the exclusive right to use the name. The organisation just stood in when nobody else was there to hold the con. No word is said about who will hold it in two, ten or twenty years ....
:: I agree that for clarity it would be a good idea to name events unrelated to Eurofurence e.V. differently (either entirely or EuroFurence east/west, north/south, spring/summer/autumn/winter or whatever you like), but legally I would see no problem with using the same name. Nobody can trademark (service mark, whatever - yet another question would be according to which country's legislation ....) something that has been in use previously by others for the same purpose.
:: Clarification regarding capitalization:
:: *EuroFurence = convention started 1995 by Tes-Tui-H'ar and unci
:: *Eurofurence e.V. = organisation currently holding the event
:: *eurofurence = typeface family designed for use at EuroFurence by unci
:: Not sure when the capital F was dropped, I guess that can be researched on the websites.
:: *fluff* - Unci 11:09, 16 Nov 2005 (UTC)

::: Well, someone involved with the creation did not NEED to give us the exclusive right to use the name, because they never had it. You're confusing copyright with trademarks. (Urheberrecht vs. Namensrecht). Ask a lawyer. Your implications about names are not correct. Since the Eurofurence e.V. has been registered with the Vereinsregister, nobody has the right to use the name Eurofurence for anything that collides with the activities of the organisation any more. And even if that were not the case, you'd have a hard time convincing a judge that you still have any legitimate interest in the name of a construct that you've abandoned 10 years ago, and which has since then been carried on by precisely those people who later chose to officially register it.

::: And honestly, I don't think the situation is bad, because there objectively is no NEED for anyone to name anything "Eurofurence" other than trying to cause us a pain in the ass. And for obvious reasons, nobody likes people who're trying to be a pain in the ass, so for once, this kind of legislation is doing something good.

::: But that's just my opinion. I think we don't need to mention the name issue at all in the article, it's not why we founded the organisation (that was because of tax and liabiliy issues), and it's not hat important. I'm certainly not getting off on it. But at least the article should't claim anything factually wrong.

Eurofurence is the biggest European furry convention and (as of 2005) the longest standing one still active. It was founded in 1995, and Eurofurence 11 at Nürnberg, Bayern, Germany saw more than 370 attendees.

It is typically located in various places of Germany, but it has seen other countries as well, notably Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. It is planned, however, that the upcoming twelfth Eurofurence will be held at the same place as the eleventh one.

The name EuroFurence can be freely used for any openly accessible furry convention in Europe, it is not limited to any specific location or organizing staff. That means that there can also be more than one EuroFurence per year, in different places, in case of sufficient demand.

For Eurofurence XI (2005), the core members of convention staff, and their areas of responsibility, were as follows:

* Cheetah — Chairman and Programming Director
