: I can attest to item two. Kim has uploaded 'attack work' against Kylen to the VCL back in 2001. And, just this week, Kim uploaded a photomanipulation to her LiveJournal showing Kylen's head on an unknown naked woman's body. On item three, I can attest, but evidence has been removed as kim has just been banned from LJ. --[[User:Ch'marr|Ch'marr]] 08:01, 2 Jan 2006 (UTC)
[[User:Spirou|Spirou]] 08:33, 2 Jan 2006 (UTC)

:::Yes. I banned her myself after she created some faux-story of her being hacked. I checked her account, checked the logs, no IP had logged into her account except her own. I'm not sure why she fabricated the story, since it didn't further her purpose, but I had to remove her from the site.

:::The long history of evidence now and before supports the allegations - be it from the Road Rover's fandom, VCL, FA and various aspects of the LJ commnity.

:::On a side note, the IP that Giza banned was KAK/Kim's own IP. It looks like she was trying to "defend" herself on Wiki from the entry about her, but went about it the wrong way. :::KAK forum: http://friends.portalofevil.com/sfs.php?si=3&fi=000019171 Most threads have a little info, and there are some summary threads throughout. As a former PoE lurker back in the day, I can attest that most of their "reporting" turns out accurate from their once-insatiable curiosity (as opposed to other website's slanderous positions). I'd say our Wiki article is a pretty good summary as is.

==Kylen Miles==

I had several conversations with Keister in 2001-2002 over ICQ. I can attest that she most definently was not above manipulating her friends to get her way. She also was very bad when it came to typing......almost as if she was only learning the English language. However, I should also point out something important, which is Kylen Miles. Kylen Miles was NOT a nice person. She was a manipulative queen-bee whose ego more than outsized her actual (though undeniable) talent.

:Regarding Kylen Miles, if you can provide us with any links to Usenet, LJ, or other places that support this claim (coming from someone other than Kim, of course), feel free to provide them. There's always two sides to every story. --[[User:Dmuth|Dmuth]] 18:58, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

==Links==

Just a suggestion, it might be wise to include some more links to prove what you say here. For example, where you say "Kim herself has appeared in the PoE forum at least once to argue with the people criticizing her site", then you could link in an example of a post. I would say, the more you can do that the better. It might mean you can get rid of that NPOV banner -- [[User:Sannse|sannse]] [[User talk:Sannse|(talk)]] 09:27, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

:As an amusing anicdote, I have a copy of a comment thread where I convinced Kim that I worked in the North Carolina department of Disney (which, of course, there isn't one), and she told me she had interned there for a year. ;0 Thought I don't think such information would benefit the accuracy of this thread, other than to show Kim's... uh... strange claims.[[User:Banrai|Banrai]]
== Repeated vandalism on this page ==

Looking at the history of the main page, there's vandalism from 71.116.85.0/24 and 71.116.86.0/24 going all the way back to Janurary. Since there's only one page being vandalized, we'd have less of a case of going to the ISP, assuming that it really is Kimberleigh who is doing the vandalism.

I think the best way to deal with this would be to block both of those class Cs for a year. Anyone have objections? --[[User:Dmuth|Dmuth]] 21:45, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

:Sounds good to me, although another alternative to consider would be protecting it (and the talk page) to registered users only. --[[User:Mwalimu|mwalimu]] 23:20, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

:First, 72.244.170.35 was me. I didn't realized I was logged out. I was trying to see if maybe the page might be excerbating the vandalism. I can't really comment on the factual accuracy so I'll assume it's true. If I've modified it too far in the other direction, or if there are still factual errors, I welcome other editors to correct me. --[[User:Rat|Rat]] 01:42, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

:How exactly is protecting the page to registered users only going to stop someone from one of those IPs from registering for an account and THEN vandalizing the page? If anything, it would make our work in tracking ongoing abuse more difficult, because then we'd have to ask one of the server admins what IP is behind that username.
:
:I say block those Class Cs from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. --[[User:Dmuth|Dmuth]] 13:19, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Okay, regarding that last edit, it appears to be a completely unsourced accusation against the subject regarding some events that occurred to the [[User:Backlash|editor]]. While it does have a <nowiki>{{fact}}</nowiki> citation at the end, I have a problem with someone just writing whatever they want and slapping that at the end. The fact that it's here on this site lends some authority to it, citation needed mark notwithstanding. The editor needs to come up with some foundation for the accusation or it should be removed. {{cleanup}}
'''Kimberleigh Ann Keister''' is a former [[furry]] best known for controversial activities in regard with [[furry fandom]], especially concerning the [[Road Rovers]] fandom. Because of her behavior, it has been occasionally theorized that she may be a hoax.

== Controversy ==
==== Kim, Road Rovers and Kylen Miles ====

Kim first came to public attention when she became involved in the [[Road Rovers]] fandom by participating in art trades, conversation, and other social activities. Eventually she became acquaintances with [[Kylen Miles]], a popular artist in the fandom and animation student at [[Wikipedia:Loyola Marymount University|Loyola Marymount University]]. Kim soon appeared to emulate her in controversial ways, allegedly drawing characters that closely resembled Kylen's as well as tracing Kylen's drawings and passing them off as her own. {{fact}}

With growing disagreement between herself and the Road Rovers community at large, she became estranged from them. She criticized its members through several mediums, including furry [[message board]]s, [[LiveJournal]]s, and [[newsgroup]]s. She claimed that Kylen Miles had actually copied her art, and that Kylen was stalking her.{{fact}}

==== Furry gallery bans ====

Kim was [http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vclforum/showthread.php3?threadid=14908 indefinitely suspended] from the [[VCL]] at the start of 2005 for her persistent complaints about the site and the "internet rules" it was breaking. The ban was later upgraded to permanent after threats of sexual harassment charges were made to [[Ch'marr]]. As of May 2006 this has been the only exception to the VCL's policy of "no permanent bans".

Kim was banned from [[FurAffinity]] in early 2006, after fabricating a story in which, as she claimed, "dedicated hackers" were constantly hijacking her account and posting dozens of new posts in what would have been the span of five minutes. She threatened the site's administrators with legal action through the FBI's "Special Internet Crime Department" and was banned from the site after IP logs of her account activity proved that no one but herself had accessed the account since its creation. {{fact}}

Her over-exaggerating has cast considerable doubts on many of her public claims of accomplishment, such as her being an [[animator]] with ties to the [[Walt Disney]] corporation. {{fact}}

==== Portal of Evil ====

The controversy received additional public attention when her site, [http://www.geocities.com/wintermiststudios1/ Wintermist Productions], was featured <ref>[http://www.portalofevil.com/single.php?poeurlid=000019171 Wintermist Productions] as reviewed on [[Portal of Evil]]</ref> on [[Portal of Evil]] in 2002. For years, the <ref>[http://friends.portalofevil.com/sfs.php?si=3&fi=000019171 Wintermist Productions] PoE forum on Wintermist Studios</ref> has been consistently active, and remains one of the largest message counts on PoE to this day.

Currently the most informative (however out of date) source of information on Kim is the [http://friends.portalofevil.com/sp.php?si=3&fi=000019171&ti=1000420750&pi=1000420750 Kim Keister Primer] written by JockoJones on Portal of Evil.

Kim herself has appeared in the PoE forum at least once to argue with the people criticizing her site, and a number of impersonators claiming to be her also helped to feed the drama surrounding her.

== Continuing online presence ==

Kim still continues to be active on the internet, maintaining a MySpace (however it is private-locked), and occasionally complaining about Kylen. Due to her particular behavior described so far, her detractors have assigned alternate, demeaning aliases to identify her, such as '''KAK''', '''Kimmah''', '''Kimmaugh''', '''KOOK''', '''HamBeast''', or the '''KAK-Beast'''.

The '''Burned Furs''' were founded in 1998 by [[Squee Rat]] and [[Eric Blumrich]]. The group was composed of, in the words of Squee, "furs who have spoken up against fandom perversion and been 'burned at the stake' for it."

The Burned Fur movement was created because, according to their Mission Statement, "Anthropomorphics fandom is being overrun by sexually dysfunctional, socially stunted and creatively bankrupt hacks and pervs." Burned Fur, as a movement, did not produce an agenda or operating guidelines beyond its Manifesto and, to a lesser extent, Squee's "A Modest Proposal". The Manifesto outlined the BF position with no reservations:

* "To me, and a lot of other people, "Furry" simply means a fondness for animal-human combinations in art, movies, books... whatever... But you would NOT believe some of the baggage the term "furry" has taken on."

* "BESTIALITY": Do you know what all the other fandoms call Furries? SKUNK-F***ERS. "Zoophile" is a cute way of saying "I violate animals for sexual gratification."

* "PLUSHOPHILES": That's shorthand for "I find this Meeko doll intensely erotic." Enough said.

* "REAL WEREWOLVES": Don't misunderstand me; Werewolves are fun. Role-playing a werewolf? Knock yourself out. Drawing werewolves? E-mail me some pointers, I can't do 'em to save my life. Claiming to BE a werewolf? SEEK HELP...Anyone who claims to turn into a giant dog at the whim of a celestial body should be mercilessly ostracized and laughed at with maximum cruelty.

* "SPIRIT ANIMALS": I don't have one. I don't want one, I don't need one. And according to some, that disqualifies me as a furry. Gee, didn't realize I had to realign my entire belief system to ensure acceptance...Once again, the question of personal tastes intruding on a once-meaningful practice comes to mind. You'll find a good thousand spastics claiming the protection of the Fox, But I've yet to hear a furry fan thank the Earwig Spirit for his wisdom.

* "VEGAN = FURRY": And YES, there's even a special breed of nutboys out there who insist a major component of Furriness is the practicing of Veganism...For reasons beyond my comprehension, THIS sort of self-denial is supposed to put you "more in touch with your furriness." God knows how. I've never seen a pride of lions abandon a mule carcass to chase down a fleeing herd of Garden Burgers.

* "ANIMAL WANNABES": And finally, we confront the long-held notion that Furries secretly wish they WERE animals. I'm sure there are some that do, but they're in the minority. Trust me. I'm rather fond of being a homo sapien. I've grown quite attached to the idea of opposable thumbs, full-color vision, and the dawning of self-awareness. Space travel, Chinese food, swing dancing... the perks ain't bad, either. No, I'm holding my own on this end of the evolutionary ladder, thank you. Most furries are. But for the poor shmucks who want nothing more than to transform into an elk or bear or something equally ridiculous, a stay in an institution, not a fandom, is in order."

Many disputes over the exact nature of Burned Fur beliefs arose; the group was accused of wanting to impose some sort of anti-sexual vision on the rest of the fandom. Certain members of the group were, in truth, intolerant --- as stated --- of animal molesters, New Age kookery, misguided psuedoreligionism, and so on --- but, more generally, the Burned Furs were intolerant of those people who walked up to television cameras and press microphones to declare that Furry Fandom essentially revolved around their own personal [[kink]]s.

While Burned Fur claimed that none of this was a problem if kept properly as a private matter, in private areas and within the law, they frequently targeted furry fans whose only "crime" was to criticize Burned Fur's in-your-face tactics. Many critics considered Burned Fur a hate group due to the harsh tone of the Manifesto, physical threats made against other furry fans, and offensive t-shirts produced by the group. Burned Fur's critics suggested the fandom's problems should be taken up discreetly with people in positions to do something about them, rather than broadcast publically where they could be—and are, to this day—permanently archived.

It was in this atmosphere of mutual intolerance that the debate over Furry Fandom's public image was waged, and subsequently buried under rampant acts of (sometimes mutual) demonization.

Many of these disputes occurred on USENET in the [[:Category:Newsgroups|newsgroups]] [[alt.fan.furry]] and [[alt.lifestyle.furry]].

They were opposed by a group formed specifically for the purpose called the [[Freezing Furs]] who accused the Burned Furs of being a hate group. A news reporter later took up this claim and published a piece on Burned Fur being a hate group, but later had to retract it when the reporter himself admitted he could not find reasonable evidence to support the claim.

Third and fourth groups, [[Nonaligned Furs]] and [[Furry Peace]] were formed on the basis of inclusion and non-alignment in the factional conflicts which resulted from the formation of the Burned Furs.

By about 2001 the Burned Furs had faded into history, many of them having [[wikipedia:GAFIA|GAFIAted]] from furry fandom altogether, with the effect that the countergroups formed to oppose them became defunct by default.

== Points of Discussion ==

* Many of the essential points of the Burned Fur ideology have in fact been adopted by various conventions, not necessarily because any of the conventions in question approved of Burned Fur ''per se'', but because of the problems engendered by [[ConFurence]]'s failure to implement and enforce a behavioral policy. By the time Burned Fur was founded, individual convention-goers were already boycotting CF due to lewd behavior that the convention's organizers insisted on turning a blind eye to. ConFurence was finally turned over to a group dedicated to cleaning up the convention's image in 2000, but because the new Chair had once been a member of Burned Fur, the convention was boycotted by people who believed it was now a "Burned Fur" convention. Although former attendees were beginning to return to CF due specifically to the change in management, the new boycott lowered attendance levels below the survival point. ConFurence officially closed its doors on April 27, 2003.

* Ironically enough, once abandoned, the original "Burned Furs" website was picked up by a pornography merchandiser, apparently because the terms "fur" and "furry" are now standard parts of the online pornography lexicon and are commonly used by such sites as search terms to lure in new customers.
Around 1999 a mirror run by the [[Ctrl-C]] computer club opened at the University of Linköping in Sweden, to which the vast majority of traffic was sent.

In January 2005, the Swedish had to be [http://www.livejournal.com/community/vcl/65869.html taken down] at short notice due to concerns over "objectionable content". Distribution was temporarily continued using a combination the existing U.S. mirror and [[Wikipedia:Coral (network)|Coral cache network]], but two more U.S. sites were created a month later. As of August 2005, the Swedish server still hosts the VCL Forums.
