== Fursona ==

Calypso is a grey and white husky from Central Kentucky. He loves to drum, sing, dance, watch Star Trek, play, etc. He is a fan of nearly all musical genres; however, he does favor the stylings of electronic/house music and Top 40 Pop music. He isn't picky: as long as it has a good beat, he will dance to it. His favorite song to dance to is "Low" by Flo Rida and T-Pain. Calypso is also a great drummer and will not hesitate to drop a beat every now and then if he sees fit. His trademarks are his purple left eye and his long and fuzzy hair (which is usually shaped into a fauhawk). His alter-ego is otherwise known as Captain Calypso, the Chief Medical Officer aboard a starship.

== Groups ==

Calypso is an active member of the furry fandom and the regional group KYFURS. Calypso is also an active member of Starfleet: The International Star Trek Fan Association

== Conventions ==

Calypso hasn't been to any major furry conventions, but he has been to a couple of local conventions. He made his debut appearance as his alter-ego, Captain Calypso (the Chief Medical Officer aboard a starship) at Lexington Comic Con in 2014. He reprised this role at Bluegrass Cosplay Con a month later.

== Concept and Commision ==

I was unfamiliar with the existence of the furry fandom until Summer of 2014. I was pondering the idea of creating my own mascot costume to wear in support of my brother's high school marching band. In my research on mascot creation/construction, I came across the furry music video "Good Time" starring Dancing Duke and Sparky. I was hooked from there; I enjoyed watching videos from all the cons and different suits. I wanted to join in on the fun. I made the decision to create a fursuit and to have it done by Halloween 2013, but the deadline wasn't made.
Calypso was constructed from July 2013 to January 2014. He was officially commissioned in January 2014. People often ask me, "Why a husky? There are already a bunch of them in the fandom." While this may be true, Calypso was not created on the basis of species popularity. I have always been a fan of the Husky and have always wanted to have one for a pet however, due to lifelong financial constraints, I have been unable to. Calypso brings out the real me that only my friends get to see, as I am often a shy and secluded person. The fandom and Calypso have both opened new doors to meet new people and make new friends, which is something I've always wanted to do.
