[Note: This article is still a work in progress and should not be redirected to any other place on wiki]

=== Background ===

Gryph is the real life alias of of JR Simpson, creator of a race of [[gryphon]] known as [[brute gryphon]]s - namely [[Gryph Sylvr]] and [[Bane Sylvr]]. Gryph himself is an [[Otherkin]] who specializes in [[gryphon]] [[roleplay]] or what he calls [[GRPG]] which takes place primarily in late-night Yahoo! conferences. He makes an excellent writer due to his intuitive belief that he is a gryphon in spirit and can relate to how they would look or act in a real world setting. He believes he is a guru of anything gryphonic or mythical in origin, hence the title "The Gryphon Lord" which turned out to be his first actual Yahoo! ID before it was hacked in the year 2001.

=== Art ===

Although Gryph excels in story writing and roleplay, he is a very confident furry artist. His work can be found on several furry websites, including [[FurAffinity]], [[Yiffstar]] and [[Elfwood]].

=== GotM ===

Between the years 2001 and 2006, Gryph hosted a private [[GRPG]] forum named [[Gryphons of the Mist]] which holds over 1000 posts today. The forum could be viewed by anyone, but many players were discouraged from interrupting the RP without permission by an administrator.

Samples of Gryph's artwork may also be viewed in the photo gallery of [[Gryphons of the Mist|GotM]], among many other talented artists.

=== GRPG:SE ===

'''Gryph''' is the founder of an area of the [[Gryphon's Guild]] known as [[GRPG:SE]], which houses skilled roleplayers of gryphonic origin from the [[Gryphon's Guild]] and many other places on the net.

[[GRPG:SE]] takes place in a realm known as [[Ayenee]].

=== Red Flags ===

It must be pointed out that Gryph is a very dangerous [[Otherkin]] (clearly seen in the above image) in the fact that he believes his body is ''possessed'' by an unstable force of gryphonic heritage which occasionally drives him to think and act like a creature that isn't exactly human. Resisting the will of this voice in his head is a battle that Gryph's human mind cannot win.

While this presence lingers in his mind body and soul at all times, it can cause major outbreaks in stressful periods where the person known as Gryph will tune out all surroundings and only reply to the name ''Gryph'' and sometimes even black out, or see a constant shade of red no matter what he looks at. Gryph has been known to talk himself down into suppressing his powerful animal spirit until he feels more socially acceptable around other [[Non-fur]]s in public. Gryph has only '''not''' been diagnosed as a psychotic because being furry is not a disease, even though dealing with [[Non-fur]]s in the real world might feel like one.
Hey OverGryph! Have a look at [[Wally Wolf]], for instance, to see how people with many fursonas are usually handled. All fursonas are summed up in the player's only article. Seeing that your char descriptions tend to be pretty long each, I'd advice you to create headings and sub-headings for each instead of whole articles. --[[User:TlatoSMD|TlatoSMD]] 03:52, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
== New to the WikiFur system... ==

Even though I was trying to keep the information simple and easy to find about myself, I '''was''' getting frustrated at someone editing the information behind me. ((keyword: "was")) Then after a bit of exploration at what was going on behind-the-scenes on my own information, I decided it was better than what I had and allows someone to see what is relevant to them.

Only one problem persists: In the 'formal' article about me below the link to my page for IMVU, the "This person's stub requires improving" tag still remains. Is there a way to just remove that or do I have to add/edit information in there to get rid of that? --{{Unsigned|Vosur}}

:Hi Vosur, the "This person's stub requires improving" message can be removed by edited out the "person-stub" tag. That tag is routinely put at the end of short articles to encourage people to flesh them out a bit. (For example, you might say a say words about how you discovered furry fandom, what part of the fandom you are involved in (art? costuming? gaming?), what species your fursona is if you have one, stuff like that.) You can remove the tag just by removing it in the article's edit window.

:Oh, and you can sign your posts in Talk pages (like this one) with four tildes (<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>) --[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 15:25, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
:::Signatures aren't anything fancy - just put "<nowiki>--~~~~</nowiki>" after anything you add on a Talk page and your name, the time, and the date will be automatically appended.
Mister Higgs Raccoon,

I realize I'm a new user on WikiFur, but do I not have the right to add content to a page that is about me? I attempted to add a link for my Fur Affinity profile, under the name of my second fursona, Atnarko, and you removed it. If I add content and someone comes along to smite it from existence immediately afterward, my already plain description is going to become even more pitiful. Is there a little dance I have to do or a handshake I must learn before my additions will stick?

Yotie / Atnarko
--[[User:Yotie|Yotie]] 08:44, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

:Hello, Yotie,
:Of course you have the right to edit/add content to a Wikifur page that is about you. (This being a wiki, anyone can edit anything.)
:I undid the pair of edits you made on December 1st as it appeared you weren't sure what you were doing (mysteriously inserting the wikifur logo and making links to your User page that had already been handled by the Contributor tag), and I thought you needed help getting things back to their original state. I hadn't noticed the FA link amidst all your other changes or I'd have retained it.
:Clearly you're getting the hang of editing and are more familiar with wikifur's style now - your edits today (Dec 4th) are much better!--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 16:19, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
== Wikifur Entry ==

Hey, thanks for getting me started! I've been meaning to make an entry for awhile, but *shrug* I've only the question...

Why the heck did you bother to make one of me? I'm not exactly notable aside from small portions of a few sectors of FA, and the Socal Furries... I'm just curious why you bothered and such o.o; [[User:Bengaley|Bengaley]] 23:15, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

:Hi there, Bengaley,
:Why did I make an entry on you? Well, WikiFur doesn't have the Notability standards of Wikipedia, so it can cover all of furry fandom, and that means we can have articles on everyday furries, not just the Big Names. I think I first came across your name when I saw your youtube video about there being (shock, horror) porn on the internet.

:Also, by including articles on a broad cross-section of the fandom, we can, for example, look at the number of people in the different species categories, and estimate which phenotypes are the most common.--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 04:47, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I made a comment to your comment on my [[talk:JBadger]] and [[User_talk:JBadger]] pages, not sure if you are watching that. Still need to correct some stuff in there, might move some from my bio stuff from jbadger.org there.
:Hi JBadger... I glance over the Recent Changes list every now and then, so I noticed your comment. Thanks for expanding your own article - I've done a little reformatting, removing the bullet-points and changing it from first person to third. I've also removed the Puppeteers and MFF staff tags. You can put them back, but at the same time include something in the article text justifying them (eg explaining about your being on the MFF Puppet staff).--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 22:37, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

I just discovered that you had started an article of me, and was rather curious on 'Why me'? It's rather suprizing to find an article was already made of me upon going to make one myself :P. I also hope I am doing this right. My luck I'd break something :P--[[User:Axel Zinfandel|Axel Zinfandel]] 19:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

:Hi there Axel. As Giza said on your LJ, I tend to add articles on random furs; I think wikifur should record a wide cross-section of the fandom, not just the ultra-famous. As for why you specifically... well, I'm not sure exactly. I probably wandered, by random, into either your LJ pages or online galleries, and wrote an article stub based on what was in your public profiles.
: You shouldn't worry about breaking something, edits can easily be undone/tweaked as necessary. You managed to add your question OK, and you can also read the [[Wikifur:Help|Help]] file if needed. You should feel free to expand on your existing article-stub.--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 10:25, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
== My writing ==

Please stop deleting my writing. It doesn't belong on my userpage because it's a separate piece of writing, an alternate history if you will. --[[User:Brushwell Clinton|Brushwell Clinton]] 19:04, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

:Brushwell, I am going to delete your writing at [[Brushwell_Clinton/My_History]] for the following reasons:
:* Any history of your character belongs on your character's page ([[Brushwell Clinton]]). It is not the practise on WikiFur to have a separate page for one's history/back story.
:* The contents of Brushwell_Clinton/My_History don't come close to satisfying the requirements of WikiFur's [[Help:Furry_Book_of_Style|Style Guide]]. WikiFur aims to have its articles read as encyclopaedia entries, not pieces of first-person creative writing. What you've written ''might'' be OK for your (informal) User page, but definitely not your (formal) Article.
:You should either rewrite your history in an appropriate style on your Article page, or host your creative writing elsewhere and add to your page an external link to it. --[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 01:26, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

* This is not a history of my character, it is simply a writing piece.
* This is not an encyclopedia entry and does not pretend to be one. This is also why I created it as a subpage of my userpage.
* It's not on my article page, it's on a subpage of my userpage.
* By the way, it's on a subpage of my userpage!
--[[User:Brushwell Clinton|Brushwell Clinton]] 10:34, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
: Wikifur isn't a story-hosting site, so something that is "not a history of (your) character", "simply a writing piece", and "not an encyclopedia entry" is questionable at best. And it was *not* a subpage of your Userpage like you keep saying. You originally created it is a subpage of your Article page where it was not appropriate, and hence it was removed. I hope after your chat with Green Reaper you now understand the difference.--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 08:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
<br>
:I've had a chat with Brushwell and he mentioned that he always intended to put it at [[User:Brushwell_Clinton/My_History]] and thought that he had done so, even though he did not the first two times. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 19:22, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
:Hello Asylumfoxy714. I sympathise that you want control over your own article, but that isn't quite how WikiFur works. When you edit a page, below the edit window is a disclaimer which includes the words:
::''If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here.''
:WikiFur Articles need to be open for editing by all so that they can be kept up to date and made to conform with WikiFur's format and style. The obvious exception to this is if you opt for [[Wikifur:Personal exclusion|Personal Exclusion]], in which case the Article about you will be removed and locked to prevent further edits.--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] 16:38, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

'''Gryphons of the Mist''', or '''GotM''' is a public forum used for [[gryphon]]-related [[roleplay]] also known as [[GRPG]]. GotM ran the strongest during its prime between the years of 2001 and 2006. The majority of GotM follows rules set in place by a specific [[GRPG]] style sub-categorized as [[GRPG:SE]].

The GotM forum allows any species of character to roleplay, but it is preferred that all characters be of gryphon origin. Veteran players in the guild may make outside species feel unwelcome and neglect any roleplay that would otherwise be welcomed in the forum. The players on this forum seem unable to trust any different breed of character besides their own and those that resemble them, i.e. the main leaders - [[Brute Gryphons]].

Due to the fact that the forum is very old and contains moderate pornographic material, most fresh GRPG is done nightly in private conferences with no interruptions. In GRPG, most races of furs are welcomed but, unless they are of gryphon origin, they may not feel welcome.

=== Brute Gryphons ===

Brute gryphons are a strong, durable breed of gryphon created by Gryph, and thought to be originated from the very first breed of gryphon forged by the gods. It is for this reason that the brute gryphon bloodline cannot die from natural causes, although they still age. In their prime, a brute gryphon can go thousands of years without appearing much older.

Brutes gryphons are uniquely identified from normal gryphons because of their size difference, which allows them to tower over normal gryphons.

Their teeth resemble snake fangs but there are more than sixty of them in an adult brute's mouth. Like fangs, they can be hidden inside the recesses of the maw, but they are pushed in/out through the use of a complex hydraulics system inside the beak.
'''Kuma-Chan''' is a [[furry]] who spends much of his time on [[Second Life]]. as kumachan twang

At one time a [[furry writer]], Kuma-Chan gave up his writing in 2006 because he felt no-one wanted to read anything other than [[yiffy]] stories. a point made obvious by the comments he got for his Gruffs Gym series [Which was kind of the "Give them what they want" series]Anyway in case anyones interested, Read on...

== Banzuke Series 1 and 2 ==

Kuma-Chans first and main series, Series 1 was pretty much the first writing he'd done since Secondary school and mainly was done as he was sick of all the "Once upon a time, 2 furs met, had sex, the end" type stories that made up the majority of furry writing back then, Kumas a HUGE fan of ongoing episodic animated series, particually the ones by BRB international www.brb.es [Dogtanian, Around the World with Willy Fog, Sandokan] so that was always the vibe he was looking for and how he *Saw* them in his head, a lot of music is mentioned throughout the series particually the German techno group SCOOTER [Before they went all Jumpstyle + Crap]too, so readers can kind of have a *Soundtrack*

Series one pretty much introduces the characters [And was originally going to be set in England but Kuma made up a seperate set of English charas so he wouldn't make American Readers feel to Alienated, although he later set Gruffs Gym in Surrey, England where he lives in real life and also included a Cornish Character which is where he was born complete with phonetic written accent]

== Sky Spirits ==

Written at the same time as Banzuke, Kuma isn't particulally proud of this series or its sequals and it was moved to the files section of his KC-CK group and replaced by Gruffs Gym on his Furnation website. Writing Sky Spirits taught Kuma that you CAN'T *Make stuff up as you go along* or without much pre plannning, if you want Kumas TOP TIPS for writing read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth or the book Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays by Laurent Bouzereau Writing Sky Spirits also taught him that writing Science Fiction really wasn't for him, neither was comedy [He started a campy humor Furry He-Man Spoof called Ur-So Disaster of the Univerce that he abandoned]

== Banzuke Series 3 ==

This was originally going to start differently, more with the characters having to grow up and accept more adult responsiblities etc but Kuma kinda steered away from that deciding to cover it more gently and keep it more for the intended *End* of the series
== History ==

Mailbox Books was founded by Ed Zolna; he retired in 1998 and sold part of the company's assets to [[Sean Rabbitt]]<ref name="InfoPage">"Historical Note" [about] The Rabbit Valley Comic Shop (''formerly known as Mailbox Books''). Retrieved June 25, 2006.</ref>.He later changed the name to '''Rabbit Valley''' due to another company suing him for the rights to the "Mailbox Books" trademark.<ref name="InfoPage" /><ref>[http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=75875269 Mailbox Books trademark (abandoned)], [[Wikipedia:USPTO|USPTO]]</ref><ref>[http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=78014001 The Mailbox Book Company], USPTO</ref> Rabbit Valley Comic Store was the first large online store to cater to [[furries]].

Today it remains a staple of the commercial aspect of the fandom and continues to help distribute the work of new and upcoming artists as well as sell some of the most popular titles in the fandom.

Rabbit Valley also used the name '''Rabco Publishing Inc.''', but reincorporated as Rabbit Valley Inc. in 2004.

In the past Rabbit Valley has partnered with [[FurEauction]]. When an item at Rabbit Valley becomes unavailable, the Rabbit Valley department page that includes that item reads “This item is sold out and unavailable for order. You may want to watch FurEAuction for this item.”<ref>[http://www.rabbitvalley.com/department_1929_0_2.html Rabbit Valley department : Comic Books > .. > Associated Student Bodies > ASB Portfolios], an example of a department with a "You may want to watch FurEAuction" message. '''Gryphons of the Mist''', or '''GotM''' is a public forum used for private [[Gryphon|gryphon]]-related [[Roleplay|roleplay]] also known as [[GRPG]]. However, the majority of GotM follows rules set in place by a specific [[Gryphon's Guild]] style sub-categorized as "GRPG:SE".

The GotM forum allows any species of character to roleplay, but unless the character is of gryphon origin, the players may make the outsider feel unwelcome and neglect any roleplay that would otherwise be welcomed in the forum. The players on this forum are trained to act this way based on the fact that they are all in a very strict clan and cannot trust any different breed of character besides their own and those that resemble them i.e. the main leaders, "Brute Gryphons".

Due to the fact that the forum is very old and contains mostly pornographic material, most fresh GRPG is done nightly in private conferences with no interruptions. In order to apply for GRPG, a player must present [[Gryph]]'s player with his/her character details. In GRPG, most races of furs are welcomed but unless they are of gryphon origin they may not feel welcome.

=== Brute Gryphons ===

'''Gryph Sylvr''' ''the Gryphon Lord'', aka '''Joshua R. Simpson'''. Gryph is an [[Otherkin]] who specializes in gryphon roleplay, or what he calls [[GRPG]] which takes place primarily in late-night Yahoo! conferences. He makes an excellent writer due to his intuitive belief that he is a gryphon in spirit and can relate to how they would look or act in a real world setting. He believes he is the gryphon guru of anything gryphonic or mythical in origin, hence the title "The Gryphon Lord" which turned out to be his first actual Yahoo! ID before it was hacked in the year 2001.

Although Gryph excels in story writing and roleplay, he is a very confident furry artist. His work can be found on several furry websites, including [[FurAffinity]] and the [[GRPG]] board [[Gryphons of the Mist]] which, for the most part, consists of him and many different characters played by him.

=== Character Description ===
Gryph's main character, the embodiment of his fursona, is Gryph Sylvr. In character, Gryph is the alpha male and leader of a large clan known as the Silver Elite. His feathers are usually dyed silver to add sheer to his over-all color, which is in fact gray. His eyes share this color, and light up to a natural silver when his plumage is freshly dyed. His claws and beak fade from gray to a rich ebony black.

=== Character Race ===
Gryph's breed of gryphon is one that his player made up, [[Brute Gryphons]] formerly Dire Gryphons or Were Gryphons. In RP, the brute gryphons are the recreated versions of the very first gryphons to walk the earth, cast down from the heavens for reasons no mortal can determine. It is because they are descendants of angels that they cannot die by natural causes. They also appear much larger in stature than a typical gryphon, including broadwings.

Staying true to his blood line, Gryph and his brethren have an ability to transform into an Enraged form, best displayed by artist Cara Mitten's Enraged Gryphon series. Whatever their birth color, they lose all color and become pure white with piercing green eyes. An enraged brute will appear larger than his normal size, more powerful than normal and much more menacing in combat. Enraged brute gryphons act on feral instinct in this form and spare the lives of no enemy.

=== GRPG ===
In [[GRPG]], Gryph is one of four known brute gryphons, which ironically are four main and secondary characters played by the same player.

Gryph is an avid roleplayer that can be reached for play or comment on MSN or Yahoo! Messenger under the handle "OverGryph".

'''Furry art''' or '''anthro art''' is a phrase sometimes used to describe artwork depicting [[anthropomorphic]] [[animal]] characters. Usually furry art is created with [[furry fandom]] as the main audience, though some works that could be described as "furry art" are intended for a larger, more mainstream audience.

A person who creates furry art is called a ''[[furry artist]]''.

== Defining traits ==
[[Image:Bruce_the_Hyenorse.jpg|thumb|right|280px|A portrait representation of typical multi-species "furry" art]]

The most basic and pervasive idiom of furry art is the depiction of [[humanoid]] figures with animal traits: heads, [[tail]]s, ears, fur, and so on. This isn't always the case: furry artwork can include completely non-humanoid animals whose only anthropomorphic traits might be their facial expressions, dialogue, range of emotions acted out, to the completely opposite end of the spectrum in completely human characters with animal ears and tails attached to them, as is popular in [[anime]] [[fanart]]. Another popular theme in furry art is in the [[transformation]] of people to animals and vice versa, as in [[werewolves]] or other mythical creatures, or in [[science fiction]] devices, such as the use of [[genetic engineering]].

=== Origins in other genres ===

The most commonly accepted theory as to the origination of furry art is that it has its roots in the indie [[comic]]s and science fiction/fantasy fan culture of the 1980s.

Due to heavy censorship of the comic book industry by the [[Wikipedia:Comics Code Authority|Comics Code Authority]] in the 1960s and 70s, there was a huge boom in underground comics, and it was during this time that [[Wikipedia:Robert Crumb|Robert Crumb]] began creating the seminal ''[[Fritz the Cat]]'' comics, a sexually graphic story about a cartoon [[cat]], which would later be made into a [[Fritze the Cat (film)|film]] by maverick [[Wikipedia:Animation|animation]] director [[Wikipedia:Ralph_Bakshi|Ralph Bakshi]]. ''Fritz the Cat'' came at a time when animation was universally considered to be a children's medium, and perhaps because of this and its aggressive countercultural bent, it met with little critical approval and to this day remains an obscure film outside of animation enthusiast circles.

The underground comics culture gave rise to a wave of independent black and white comics in the 1980s. It was during this time that many of the first [[proto-furry]] comics and [[APA]]zines began to appear. [[Steve Gallacci]]'s [[Albedo]], Eastman and Laird's [[Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles]], [[Stan Sakai]]'s [[Usagi Yojimbo]], and [[Reed Waller]]'s [[Omaha the Cat Dancer]] were among them, many of them now considered to be cornerstones of what was still becoming the furry fandom.

Many of the most prominent furry artists of the 1990s, such as [[Terrie Smith]], [[Daphne Lage]], and [[Tygger Graf]], and even contemporary fan favorite [[Marci McAdam]] all point to [[Wikipedia:Wendy and Richard Pini|Wendy and Richard Pini]]'s popular ''[[Elfquest]]'' series of fantasy comics as a major source of stylistic influence. Though ''Elfquest'' doesn't feature what would normally be considered furry characters, it shares, and is possibly responsible for introducing many ideas popular in furry art and fiction: protagonists who are close to nature and are able to communicate with animals (some of them actually possess [[wolf]] blood), an enormous emphasis on empathy and sentimentality, names such as "Petalwing," "Clearbrook," or "Moonshade" that combine two nature- or color-oriented words into one, the use of human beings as antagonistic characters, and a predilection for mystical, nativist imagery.

Even today, popular fantasy fiction and children's cartoons continue to influence trends in furry art. Witness the enormous popularity of [[Brian Jacques]]' [[Redwall (series)|Redwall series]] of novels, [[Disney]]'s 1994 blockbuster feature ''[[The Lion King]]'', Rare Software's [[Star Fox]] series of [[videogame]]s, or [[Wikipedia:Rumiko Takahashi|Rumiko Takahashi]]'s [[Anime]]/[[Manga]] series [[Wikipedia:Inuyasha|Inuyasha]] among today's furry fan artists.

=== Yeah, but is it Furry? ===

The definition of what should and should not be considered furry is a subject of ongoing controversy. Some individuals favor a definition that includes any and all media that relates to the anthropomorphism of animals, stretching from prehistoric cave paintings to representations of [[Egyptian mythology|Egyptian gods]] to contemporary [[Warner Brothers]] cartoons, to the most lewd and graphic images that can be found on the [[VCL]] can and should all be classified as furry art. Others favor a more exclusive definition, arguing that only those images and media created by individuals who operate within the social boundaries of the furry fandom and whose output is distributed primarily inside of the fandom's channels should be considered to be furry art; and while extracurricular media might be enjoyed by furry fans, it is not furry in and of itself.

The major criticisms of the inclusive definition of furry art are that it is an attempt to justify and elevate fan-oriented output to be equivalent to what is created outside of the fandom (this opinion is predicated of course on the belief that furry art does not qualify for the same level of distinction), and that it trivializes the historical artwork and more mainstream media by the association. Opponents of the exclusive definition argue that it is only used by aggressors and [[troll]]s to diminish and confine furry artwork that might be appropriate for a larger audience and that nobody can know for certain what audience an artist intended his creations for.

Many artists who have been known to attend furry conventions, [[roleplay]] as anthropomorphic animals, and represent themselves as such in art are uncomfortable with the "furry" label for various reasons. Instead they prefer to classify their artwork as '[[Anthropomorphic|anthro]],' '[[were]],' or any number of other terms that all mean roughly the same thing but lack whatever negative connotations or baggage they feel might be attached to furry art that they were trying to avoid.

It should also be noted that there is a significant portion of people who feel that the distinction is not that important, and that to engage in the argument is a waste of time that might be better spent creating, enjoying, or making fun of the art in question.

== Where to find Furry Art ==

A more appropriate question to ask might be where ''can't'' you find furry art. A Google image search for nearly any kind of animal will usually yield furry art featuring that animal within the first page or two. However, the enterprising fan might have more success finding furry art at any one of the many galleries dedicated to hosting it:

* [[TransFur]]
* The [[VCL]]
* [[Yerf]]
* [[ArtSpots]]/[[Jaxpad]]
* [[Furry Art Pile]]
* [[JaxPad]]
* The [[Orlando Furry Archives]]
* [[YNA]]
* [[Fur Affinity]]
* [[ArtVark]]
* [[The Lion King Fan-Art Archive]]
* [[PlayMouse]]
* [[The InflatioNation]]
* More art archives: [[:Category:Art archives|all-ages]] - [[:Category:Mature art archives|mature]]

Additionally, many general-purpose or cross-genre public gallery sites host furry artwork and most of them feature specific categories for it:

* [[SheezyArt]]
* [[deviantART]]
* [[Y!Gallery]]
* [[Epilogue]] [http://www.epilogue.net/index.html]
* [[Elfwood]] [http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/elfwood.pike]

Furthermore, there are [[List of furry LiveJournal communities|a wealth of LiveJournal communities]] dedicated to the creation, discussion, and exchange of furry art.

It is a common practice for artists to create their own individual galleries, hosted on personal website portfolios. If you discover an artist with a style you enjoy, you might follow links around or google their name in order to find their home page and bookmark it. Many artists also appreciate positive feedback from their fans - don't be shy about sending them email to let them know how you feel about their artwork!

== Creating Furry Art ==
[[Image:DrawingInSketchbook.jpg|right|thumb|250px|A furry artist drawing in a [[sketchbook]]]]
One of the trademarks of the furry art community is its inclusivity. Anybody who wants to put a pencil to paper and draw animal people is welcome to do so and can quickly find a place in the furry art scene should they have a mind to, and many of the galleries listed above have no content restrictions, thus making them ideal for beginners to share their work.

If you are unsure of how to begin creating furry art, here is a simple step-by-step how-to:

# Get a pen or pencil and a sheet of paper. Any kind will do.
# Draw whatever it is you have in your head!
# Lather, rinse, repeat.

That's it! That's all there is to it. Don't be afraid of making mistakes, and don't be afraid of what other people might say about your artwork. Just draw, all the time. The best avenue of improvement for the any artist at any skill level is to practice, ''constantly''. Anybody can draw, and the people that are exceptionally skilled artists are so because they are drawing nonstop. Patience and diligence are all it takes!
'''Gryphons of the Mist''', or '''GotM''' is a public forum used for private gryphon-related roleplay also known as [[GRPG]]; however, the majority of GotM followed rules set in place by a specific gryphon guild style sub-categorized as [[GRPG:SE]].

The GotM forum allows any species of character to roleplay, but unless the character is of gryphon origin, the players inside the forum might make the outsider feel unwelcome and neglect any roleplay that would otherwise be welcomed in the forum. The players on this forum are trained to act this way based on the fact that they are all in a very strict clan and cannot trust any different breed of character besides their own and those that resemble them i.e. the main leaders, [[Brute Gryphons]].

Gryphons of the Mist is a catchy name for a GRPG locale. Due to the fact that the forum is very old and contains mostly pornographic material, most fresh GRPG is done nightly in private conferences with no interruptions. In order to apply for GRPG, a player must present [[Gryph]]'s player with his/her character specs. In GRPG, most races of furs are welcomed but unless they are of gryphon origin they might not feel welcome.

Disclaimer: Gryph's player is not responsible for any actions that happen in GRPG involving your character or you as a player being welcome or unwelcome. Players are encouraged to create a character of gryphon origin.

=== Brute Gryphons ===

Brute gryphons are a strong, durable breed of gryphon thought to be originated from the very first breed of gryphon forged by the gods.

They are also the only known species of gryphon containing a beak filled with razor sharp teeth. These teeth resemble snake fangs but there are more than sixty of them in an adult brute's mouth. Like snake fangs, they can be hidden inside the recesses of the maw. Unlike snake fangs, they do not fold in, but rather are pushed in/out through the use of a complex hydrolics system inside the beak.
[[Image:Zetapin.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Zeta pin, used in public by some zoophiles]]
'''Zoophilia''' is technical term for sexual attraction of humans to (nonhuman) animals. It has been increasingly used in popular and furry culture as an alternative to the term bestiality, because it stresses orientation over acts, and is usually regarded as less prejudicial. (For more information on the context and use of the techical term, see: [[Wikipedia:paraphilia|paraphilia]].)

It is common misconception that [[furries]] are lovers of animals, and (by extension) zoophiles. It is true that a significant proportion of erotic furry artwork and stories involve beings with animal characteristics having sex with each other, or with humans, but it should be noted that the participants are usually [[anthropomorphic]] beings. While some furries are zoophiles, the two terms are not synonymous. Most furries do not have any sexual interest in animals in real life, though some may roleplay otherwise in a fantasy scenario.

==Self-Identified Zoophiles versus bestiality==
Most people who identify themselves as zoophiles distinguish between zoophilia and [[bestiality]]. Though some zoophiles choose to engage in sexual contact with their animal companions, not all do. Zoophiles state that they are lovers of animals, and that sexual contact, when it is done, is an extension of a deeper emotional and perhaps spiritual relationship with the animal, similar in character to the sexual expression between human companions. They sometimes refer to those who have sexual contact with animals without emotional bonds as "beasties," or, more often, "rapists." Zoophiles may draw attention to the distinction between bestiality (an act), and Zoophilia (a sexuality), and to the view that those who have sexual contact with animals without an emotional connection are not zoophiles.

Some self-identified zoophiles also use the term to refer to anyone with the kind of emotional bonds they stress as distinguishing them from bestialists, including those who have no sexual contact with or interest in animals.

ZooWiki's policies specify that it should not contain explicit or illegal content. It was created on May 23, 2005, by [[Wolfie (Germany)|Wolfie]].
[[Image:Unclekage.jpg|thumb|right|Uncle Kage leading an auction at [[MFF]] in 2004]]
'''Dr. Samuel Conway''', also known as '''Kagemushi Goro''' or '''Uncle Kage''' ([[Wikipedia:International Phonetic Alphabet|IPA]]: [kɑ ˈgɛ]) is Chairman of [[Anthrocon]], and regularly attends many other [[furry]] [[:Category:Conventions|conventions]]. He has been a [[guest of honor]] at numerous conventions, both in and out of the furry world, including Albany Anthrocon, [[Feral! 2001]], [[ConClave]], [[Duckon]], [[Eurofurence 8]] (2002), and [[I-CON]]. He holds a doctorate in chemistry from [[Wikipedia:Dartmouth College|Dartmouth College]], and is a professional scientific researcher. <!-- Kage prefers to keep his employer private. -->

==The many faces of Uncle Kage==
===Kage the Furry===
Uncle Kage's name is actually an abbreviation of ''Kagemushi Goro'', or the ''Samurai Cockroach'', his selected [[fursona]] (''kage mushi'' is Japanese for ''shadow bug''; this is in turn a pun on the Japanese term ''[[Wikipedia:Kagemusha|kagemusha]]''). Kage has also claimed that his [[cockroach]] fursona is also part [[wolf]].<ref>http://www.unclekage.com/cockroach.html</ref> In 2001, Uncle Kage went incognito to [[Mephit Furmeet 5]] as "[http://www.unclekage.com/unknown.html The Unknown Furry]", wearing a cheaply-designed [[fursuit]], including a mask made from a paper bag.

Kage was introduced to furry fandom by [[Jim Groat]] at [[Wikipedia:Noreascon|Noreascon]] in 1989. He became a regular of [[FurryMUCK]] in 1991 and still spends time there in the evenings.<ref>''[http://anthrozine.com/itvw/itv.kage.html 'Tis The Voice Of The Cockroach]'' - interview by [[Phil Geusz]]</ref>

===Kage the Chairman===
Uncle Kage has been the chairman of Anthrocon since 1999, after his invitation as a [[guest of honor]] in 1998.<ref>[http://www.unclekage.com/storyteller.html Uncle Kage - The Storyteller]</ref> Under his leadership, Anthrocon was incorporated and moved from Albany to Philadelphia, where the convention tripled its attendance in a period of 7 years.
[[Image:2 and Uncle Kage at FWA 2007.jpg|right|thumb|275px|[[2, the Ranting Gryphon]] (left) and Uncle Kage at [[Furry Weekend Atlanta]] 2007]]
Kage remains the public liaison for Anthrocon, handling such things as public relations, hotel contracts, finances and even damage control, as well as many numerous other activities before, during and after the convention.

As the chairman of Anthrocon, Uncle Kage has a distinct hatred of [[wikipedia:Target Corporation|Target]] since they purchased and closed the [[Adam's Mark Hotel]] in Philadelphia in late 2004, forcing Anthrocon's move to Pittsburgh in 2006 and making him find a backup hotel for 2005. This hatred was demonstrated at [[Megaplex|Megaplex 5]] when, visiting [[2, The Ranting Gryphon]], in the Dealer's Den, he received a package of sandwich crackers; upon hearing they were Target brand, he pulverized the crackers within with repeated karate chops in an uncharacteristic show of rage.

===Kage the Storyteller===
Uncle Kage is well known for his storytelling, always told with a glass of wine in hand, often based on everyday experiences - ''[[Uncle Kage's Story Hour]]'' is a popular addition to the schedule whenever he is present at an event. The Story Hour often involves a few humorous anecdotes from his own personal experiences. His stage name was the result of his first storytelling experience at [[ConFurence]] in 1994, and is a derivative of his fandom name ''Kagemushi Goro''.

He is regularly invited to tell his stories as a guest of honor at other conventions, both within and without the furry fandom, including [[I-CON]],<ref>http://www.iconsf.org/archive/icon22/anthro.htm</ref><ref>http://www.iconsf.org/archive/icon24/anthro_conway.php</ref> [[Eurofurence]],<ref>[http://www.eurofurence.org/EF8/home.html Eurofurence 8 home page]</ref><ref>[http://www.unclekage.com/ef8/index.html Uncle Kage - How was Eurofurence 8?]</ref> [[ConClave]],<ref>[http://www.scifiinc.net/scifiinc/gallery/list/cons/duckon.htm Duckon Reference for Fan Gallery]</ref> and [[Feral!|Camp Feral!]]. Gross sales from recordings of his ''Story Hours'' were over US$2600 in 2004; no profit was realized, as the intention was to increase membership and awareness of Anthrocon.<ref>Anthrocon, Inc. - IRS Form 990 - Return of Organization Exempt From Income Tax</ref><ref>[http://www.unclekage.com/videos.html Uncle Kage's videos]</ref>

[[Image:LastBrickOfAdamsMarkAtAuctionAnthrocon2006.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Uncle Kage auctioning off the "last brick" of the [[Adam's Mark Hotel]]]]

===Kage the Auctioneer===
Uncle Kage also manages to make charity auctions fun, to the detriment of the wallets of many con-goers. Sometimes co-auctioneering with 2, the Ranting Gryphon, Uncle Kage is very rarely seen auctioneering without his trademark glass of wine, although he has been known to exchange it for water (or Japanese sake) on occasion. He also is known to express displeasure at people who bid in multiples less than five.
One of his most famous auctions was the sale of the "last brick" from the recently demolished Adam's Mark Hotel in 2006.<ref>[http://www.anthrocon.org/history-charity-2006 Anthrocon 2006 Charity Report]</ref>

He has also published several short stories under his proper name of Dr. Samuel Conway. Most of these were in titles printed by [[Sofawolf Press]], although his best-known work ''Tweaked in the Head'' can be found in the anthology ''[[Flights of Fantasy]]'', edited by [[Wikipedia:Mercedes Lackey|Mercedes Lackey]] (Daw Books, 1999).
== August Yifu article ==

We've reverted your [[August Yifu]] back to how it was, because we don't think you should feel you have to meet standards that WikiFur doesn't actually have.

First of all, as described in the policy[[WikiFur:What_WikiFur_is#._._._so_tell_us_about_yourself_._._.|What WikiFur is]], pages about yourself are totally encouraged, as long as they otherwise are consistent with the content goals of WikiFur.

Number two, linking without from article space to user space without informing the reader, like from [[August Yifu]] to [[User:AugustYifu]] is discouraged, because the two spaces have quite different content goals.

You can still use your user page [[User:AugustYifu]] with pretty wide freedom if you like; other people can suggest, but if you want to write your user page in article style, it's okay.

Your article [[August Yifu]] is more of a collaborative work; other people can suggest changes, but you can also suggest your own changes.

If you're worried about any of your text being lost, it's all accessible from the history tab at the top.

I wrote a little guide for new users at [[User:Rat/Why_did_you_change_my_article]]; it's not official policy, but it explains some of this a little more. --[[User:Rat|Rat]] 10:12, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I just finished updating my article. Feel free to change the grammar around, you obsessive wikifurries. But please keep the information relatively similar to what I have provided. I published this update on deviantART, so some unwanted changes may occur for a while. I'll do my best to revert them, but please assist me if it becomes convenient for you to do so. -[[User:AugustYifu|AugustYifu]] 05:20, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

In August 2006, it was noted that a particular picture of Nek0gami's character, Nekogirli (drawn in 2005)<ref>[http://neomonsterisland.com/kgglry/heisei/crystal/crystalgallery.html The gallery Neolucky's picture was loaded to in 2004]</ref> looked remarkably similar to a picture drawn by Neolucky (drawn in 2004).<ref>[http://neolucky.deviantart.com/journal/9666178/ Neolucky's journal entry concerning the art swipe]</ref> An overlay was done and it proved that there was a trace involved.<ref>[http://www.anime.net/~arshesnei/oops/neopwnsnek0.jpg The overlay of both pictures]</ref>

When asked about it, Nek0gami claimed that:
{{q|She traced over my picture, then changed the copyright date on hers... The original is mine, I just retraced over it again for a new character}}
A number of people were not happy with Nek0gami's response. After certain users made their own versions of the Neolucky trace, Nek0gami made post on [[FurAffinity]] about it, where he admitted to tracing the image.{{fact}}

However, he claimed it was something he did when he was first trying to learn how to draw, and accused everyone who pointed out his wrongdoing as bringing up "old shit", despite the fact that Neolucky had just learned about it at the time.<ref>[http://www.anime.net/~arshesnei/oops/nek0gamiliesed081306.html Log of Nek0gami's claims]</ref>
{{Unreferenced}}
[[Image:HighTailHall.png|right|thumb|350px|Initial scene of the bar at High Tail Hall]]
'''High Tail Hall''' (also known as '''HTH''') is an adult [[Wikipedia:Adobe_Flash|Flash]] animation game created by the artist [[Crowchild]] and his studio [[HTH Studios]] (formerly [[Pendragon Entertainment]]). In it, the player's [[character]] (who is [[male]]), can explore the setting of "High Tail Hall", which is a strip club and bar that has recently opened for business. While exploring the place, a player can talk to and/or seduce, or be seduced, by the [[furry]] characters in the hall. The current version is 1.7. The game was succeeded by ''[[High Tail Hall 2.0]]''.

Other active elements on this Flash game include an interactive news bulletin board, tip jar, a suggestion box, and several hidden locations and secrets.

==The beginning of the project==
High Tail Hall began its existence as a discussion on the [[Yiffstar]] messageboards. [[Crowchild]], the creator of Pendragon Entertainment, announced he would be making a flash akin to [[The Tail Underground]], seeing as updates to it were sporadic at best. This announcement included a statement that people who wished to be in the animation need only ask. Some time after the announcement, the finished product, version 1.5, was released.

==Characters==
''Note: These are the characters that appear in Version 1.5. Characters from Version 1.7 are not included on this list.''

'''Fully interactive characters:'''
*'''Luca Shoal''', an [[androgynous]] male [[fox]]. Luca is a maid for HTH and wears a "French maid outfit". He is owned by his player, [[Luca Shoal]] (Pendragon Entertainment holds the rights to the remaining characters.)
*'''Tanya Winters''', a [[female]] [[Zebra]]. Tanya is a barmaid and serves guests (in more ways then one).
*'''Zoe Mallari''', a female [[cheetah]]. Zoe is one of the HTH strippers.

'''Other characters:'''
*'''Maxwell Moore''', a black male [[tomcat]] (text only). Maxwell is apparently the owner and manager of HTH and serves guests as a bartender. He seems to have many sexual relationships with the strippers.
*'''Boris''', an old male [[crow]] (text only). Boris is from Russia and is one of Maxwell's regular customers.
*A female kangaroo and an avian character. The kangaroo (who is evidently a stripper) is having lesbian sex with a raven (or crow) character in the basement of the bar. the female crow is also seen in the library upstairs.
*If you go outside you will see two signs and a bunch of trees, click the 5th tree from the right and an animation of a dinosaur(male) and a goat(female) having sex on a tree will appear.

==Locations==
High Tail Hall has a bar with an outside balcony on the main floor, private rooms on the second floor, a dance floor and bar downstairs off the ground floor. There is also a secret entryway on the second floor, a hidden envelope containing erotic art and a codeword, and another hidden place to enter the codeword. In Version 1.7 the player has the option of going outside.

==High Tail Hall 1.7==

Version 1.7 offered the opportunity to add your own character/[[fursona]] to the game engine for a fee. Unfortunately, a fire broke out in the Pendragon Entertainment studio, destroying the computer with all the commissions on it, killing the studio's cat, and causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to the building. All Pendragon Entertainment projects were suspended, but full refunds were given to everyone who commissioned a character. The improvements that were being added to version 1.7 were:

*A redesigned Tanya Winters.
*The ability to venture outside the pub, where one could find a non-working [[Wikipedia:Stargate_(device)|Stargate]], and a hidden spot with an orcish character and satyr.
*'''Jade Felicia Lanely''', a [[female]] blue [[fox]] (incomplete full interaction. Right-clicking "play" on the character shows some of the intended interaction, before the sequence abruptly ends.)

==High Tail Hall 2.0==
As of March 6th, 2008, Crowchild, the author of High Tail Hall has released High Tail Hall 2 on his website: www.hthstudios.com. The game is updated as frequently as possible with the recent addition of Rio from the demo and Ginger. Rio is the only character to have voice work at the moment. Other areas of the game can be seen from the map but are currently off line until the author releases them in the future. Currently the character can only go into the glass room. Several additional characters have been added including Bella(White Bear), a female Egyptian style dog and a male dinosaur at the bar. Also there is a female parrot outside the complex at the loading zone. However there is no accessibility or interaction with any of these characters. The parrot inside the Glassroom has changed appearances slightly and the text on it has changed from "look closer" to "Look Harder! HAHAHA" which probably means there is something you have to click on that is hidden somewhere in the back ground.

==OpenHTH==
'''OpenHTH''' is an [[Wikipedia:open source|open source]] (as open as flash files can be) project based around High Tail Hall 1.7, the goal is to vastly improve the game, by enhancing existing content, but also adding to it.

The current version of OpenHTH is 1.0.2 which so far is only dialogue enhancements, replacing incorrect spelling and grammar, and typographical mistakes in the original HTH 1.7, some ambient music, and a few background animation enhancements.

Users are welcome to download the latest version and help add or enhance it, or download the base version (which is just the editable flash files of HTH 1.7) and try their hand at doing their own mod.

====Phases====
*'''1 - Introduction to editing stage''': which is to replace all the dialogue, while pertaining to some sort of persistent back story, to give it more of an atmospheric and immersive feel to it (as far as Flash goes anyway), part of the first phase is also to extend the length of the dialogue, and have somewhat more of an interactive conversation, to set it up as more of a game for later stages, then finally after all that is done fix any animation errors, that may get accidentally introduced from the editing.

*'''2 - Technical and creative theory stage''': which is to review the dialogue, plan where the game is headed, write up some design docs for planned expanded areas and characters, write the main and back story, figure out the character's persona and write the dialogue around that (creative writing class finally pays off :P).

*'''3 - Technical backend stage''': which is to create a backend engine for the game from scratch, which will contain your basic RPG elements, the journal, the inventory, etc.

*'''4 - Content creation stage''': which is of course, is to create new art and animation using what we planned out in the second phase to dictate what exactly we need to do, as well as sound effects, and creating a few musical scores.

*'''5 - Putting it together stage''': which is to link the content to the backend, define what its supposed to do, whats supposed to happen with each conversation path etc, put in the right dialogue for the right character, get the journal to update on certain events, etc etc.

*'''6 -Testing stage''': which is to obviously test what we have, see what works as intended, and to refine the game, correcting and fixing any errors, mistakes, bugs, etc.

Then finally it's finished, or is it? No not really, that 6 phase process can be repeated as many times, and with each lot of 6 phases can add as little or as much content as we please at the time.

Users can and are encouraged to contribute to this process, and critique upon whatever we have at any given point in time on the OpenHTH forums.
==Twilight Cavern==

A fan created spinoff of the original High Tail Hall is on the works, being designed by an artist by the name [[Jack Salem]], which will consist of established and new characters and locations. It has been announced that there will be approximately 12 female characters, and 6 different places to explore, as well as an in-depth plot.{{fact}}

As far as male characters, only one has been announced, and recently it was also announced that this version of the game is focused around heterosexual relations only. There will be a music score, mostly jazz tracks, written by Jack himself. This project was announced in 2006, with the only releases so far being images of characters and as of Christmas Day 2006, a Beta Preview with animation.{{fact}}

Upon the creator of Twilight Cavern hearing that the original High Tail Hall has come back into creation, the Twilight Cavern project has been announced to be a separate endeavor. Jack has stated that Twilight Cavern will be made, but it will no longer have any ties to High Tail Hall, save for any appearing special characters, such as [[Luca Shoal]].{{fact}}

Jack has stated that he is indeed working on the project to the message-board Yiffstar, where the project was first announced.

Jack has started a commission service as a mini-fund raiser to support the re-creation of the Twilight Cavern Flash project, as posted in the miscellaneous Sub-forum at the Yiffstar community. He is establishing a new website and will be taking commissions for new characters shortly.

==High Tail Hall Classic==
[[Image:HTH1remix.png|right|thumb|350px|Beta scene of the bar in High Tail Hall Classic]]
On Halloween 2007, Crowchild released an image of the beta of the bar scene and a sound test of Max from an upcoming remake of High Tail Hall 1, currently titled '''''High Tail Hall Classic'''''. HTHC will be total remake of the original game, and will feature the updated character models from HTH 2.0. It will also include voice acting. The game currently has no set release date, and will be released onto [[Fur Affinity]] and Newgrounds.

==Controversy==

Early versions of High Tail Hall prior to version 1.1 included an uncredited clip of [[Wikipedia:Depeche Mode|Depeche Mode]]'s song "Personal Jesus." This clip was removed from 1.2 on.

Some people believe that High Tail Hall was inspired by [[The Tail Underground]], and vice versa. In fact, both [[Ian R. Soulfox]] and Pendragon Entertainment created their animations independently, with High Tail Hall being made after Tail Underground. Ian has mentioned that he doesn't mind the existence of HTH, and that he enjoys its existence.
