He founded and continues to administrate [[furry.ca]], serves as a [[Wizard]] on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications]] [[MUCK]] (SPR), maintains his own furry artwork gallery named [http://www.stripeymaney.com StripeyManey], administrates several related web sites... and, of course, is a [[liger]].

== Artistic Development and Practice ==

Having drawn for all of his life, Benjamin is a well-practiced and accomplished furry [[artist]]. He had begun drawing at a young age and continued to refine his skills right through to high school, where he had begun taking as many art classes at school as was possible to get into. Under the recommendation of one of his high school teachers, he enrolled in a fine arts programme at university to further broaden his artistic horizons and refine his skills and talents.

During university, Benjamin was introduced to the brushed ink medium which he had quickly incorporated into his style for finishing his furry artwork. In fact, much of Benjamin's early painted artwork was done in the furry theme, for drawing classes in his university programme.

Benjamin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art & Art History from the University of Toronto. Since his graduation, he has further developed his skills, continuing to primarily use the brushed ink medium along with watercolour painting in order to finish his artwork.

Benjamin prefers to draw in a realistic fashion, completing his works with real media. This is done for the simple reason that Benjamin likes to draw his subjects as they may be seen if they were to exist in the real world, given realistic proportions and details. He is best known for his artwork of anthropomorphic big cats, especially lions. These particular subjects are chosen by the artist for spiritual and aesthetic reasons.

In recent years, much of Benjamin's creative energy has gone toward his graphic web design practice. He has developed several furry community web sites, his own gallery/personal site, as well as several commercial sites done for various clients.

Some of the work there ranges from his high school years, through his university career, and the years that follow the completion of his formal education.

== Personal History ==

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on March 4, 1974, Benjamin had been raised in the suburban towns surrounding Toronto. He attributes December 26, 1994 as being the day in which he first found out about the [[furry]] fandom, once he had stumbled upon a dial-up [[BBS]] called [[The Trap Line]], based out of nearby Toronto. His early online presence reflected his love for the 1994 hit movie, [[The Lion King]], by use of a [[lion]] for his chosen species and normally [[Simba]], or a variation thereof, for his nickname.

Benjamin continued his education after high school, having begun studies at the University of Toronto's Erindale Campus (in Mississauga) in the Fall of 1994, in their Art & Art History (Fine Arts) programme. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in that same programme, in the Spring of 1997. It was through the dial-up SLIP connection available at the school through which Benjamin got his first taste of furry Internet life. Through this service, using the [[Wikipedia:Telnet|telnet]], Benjamin acquired his first MUCKing character at [[FurryMUCK]] on February 22, 1995.

In March of 1997, Benjamin was invited to become the building wizard of [[FurryFaire]], a medieval themed 100% furry MUCK. He accepted the offer and remained on the wizard staff there until 2005, when he left the MUCK due to an eventual lack of interest. After a span of being a trusted [[HelpStaff]]er on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications]], Benjamin had been promoted to wizard status in the Fall of 1997. He continues to hold this position at SPR to this day.

After a fair bit of self-exploration, species-trial, soul-searching, deep thought and reflection, Benjamin had come to the conclusion that his now current species, the liger, was what best suited him. This revelation developed in the late Summer and early Fall of 1997.

During the transition time of his fursona, Benjamin had acquired what is currently known as FurryIM and began to grow that project into a more successful furry resource.

During his time with this organisation, he had created its logo, designed and/or maintained it's online presence, and designed its con books, among other things. He even led various art-related workshops at Feral!, imparting his knowledge and experience to fellow furs in attendance. Benjamin's involvement with Feral! continued until January of 2002, when he resigned his committee position for reasons not worth mentioning here.

FurryIM had also declined to a state of disrepair by late 2002, due to a lack of time to manually update it's database. Demand became too high for it to be efficiently maintained, except by an automated process which continues to be under development by [[Trevor Gryffyn]].

On July 1, 2000, Benjamin had acquired the domain name of [http://www.stripeymaney.com stripeymaney.com] to which his furry art gallery and personal (vanity) site migrated.

Later that same year, on December 8, 2000, Benjamin had acquired the domain name [http://www.furry.ca furry.ca] under the recommendation from [[MelSkunk]] that this would be a great place to house his Canadian furry related web sites. [[furry.ca]] has since then grown to include a web ring, banner exchange, message board, and various other bits of furry information that would be beneficial primarily to Canadian furries.

In November of 2002, Benjamin discussed with [[WhiteShepherd]] the installation of proper forum software on [[Furtopia]] to replace the older, less useful bulletin board scripts that were previously in use. On November 25, 2002, an Ikonboard was installed on the server with its skin graphics, logo design, and so on designed by Benjamin. The logo and header graphics were so popular that they were later adapted to the main Furtopia site and used in the first t-shirts to be produced as a fund-raiser for this furry ISP. Benjamin continues to serve as administrator on the [http://forums.furtopia.org furtopia.org forums] he had founded.

In late January of 2004, Benjamin moved from his home of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, to his current residence ([[The House]]) in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, residing in a home simply referred to as "[[The House]]". This move let him be with his mate, [[Sedyah]], and become part of her family. In May of 2007, the household moved to a new home in Coniston, Ontario, Canada, which is a small town that lies just east of Sudbury. Later that year, Benjamin had moved out on his own to a nearby apartment in town, yet continues to be a member of the family.

'''StripeyManey''' is the name given to Benjamin's anthropomorphic animal art gallery, located at [http://www.stripeymaney.com http://www.stripeymaney.com], naturally. It plays home to Benjamin's artwork, photography, writing, resume, links, forums, liger information, and so on. It also hosts some guest artwork, featuring the talents of [[Bloodhound]], [[EbonyTigress]], [[Scheriff]], [[Xtro]], and [[Zeiros]]. Essentially, StripeyManey is a personal site which features Benjamin's various projects he works (or has worked) on.

The origin of the name, StripeyManey, is fairly simple. It was intended as a playful yet dignified and distinct description of the artist's [[fursona]], being as "stripey as a tiger" and "maney as a lion". It is also hoped that the name is memorable, to help visitors return every so often.

The design of the central section of the site was modelled after the biography that Benjamin had created for the [[Feral!]] 2001 Survival Guide. When it was first created, on October 9, 2001, it was viewable in Microsoft Internet Explorer, yet the CSS and HTML used in it were too advanced for the then aging, outdated, and unpopular Netscape 4 (Mozilla) to properly display it. Despite this, Benjamin kept the design and waited for Mozilla to catch up with the current web trends. Fortunately, the new, much-awaited Mozilla had just begun development at that time.

Some have mistaken the name, StripeyManey, to be a direct representation of Benjamin himself, but this is actually not the intention. It is sometimes used as an original instant messenger handle, which has occasionally led to this confusion.

TorFurICQ (later named TorFurIM) was the first of Benjamin's Canadian furry oriented resources to precede the existence of furry.ca. It was founded on March 14, 1999, and served as a listing of furries' instant messaging information that they would volunteer to have published on the site.

On April 12, 1999, The Canadian Furry Web Ring was founded. [[:Category:Web rings|Web rings]] were rather commonplace during this time and viewed as a useful tool to help boost a web site's traffic. The CFWR was founded for the use of Canadian furry artists, writers, fans, and so on.

Using the same basic concept as the TorFurICQ list, the CanuckFurryICQ list was born on September 4, 1999. Initially, it published Canadian furs' ICQ information that was submitted voluntarily by each respective individual. Later, on February 26, 2002, it was expanded to include the four major IMs, and was suitably renamed to CanuckFurryIM. It was later renamed to furry.ca IM, at which the name stayed until the list was shut down on June 19, 2005 in favor of simplifying the furry.ca site overall. At the time it was shut down, the furry.ca citizens listing was expanded in order to publish Canadian furs' contact information, including each of the four major IMs.

Around about December 17, 1999, The Toronto Furry Home Page was passed to Benjamin from it's original founder, [[Silfur]]. At this time, it was moved to Benjamin's current web host and promptly rewritten and redesigned.

The ''Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA)'' assumed regulatory power over the .ca top level domain as of November 8, 2000. It's mandate included making .ca domains available to Canadian citizens.

After being made aware of the change of regulations regarding .ca domains, Benjamin registered furry.ca on December 8, 2000 and published the first design for that site within 24 hours. The CFWR, TorFurICQ, Toronto Furry Home Page, and CanuckFurryICQ sites were promptly ported over to furry.ca, finding permanent homes in subdirectories off the new domain.

The first new Canadian furry service to be released since the founding of furry.ca itself came on December 16, 2000. It was a banner exchange, aptly named the furry.ca exchange, used to help Canadian furs advertise their respective web sites.

The initial release of the board used Ikonboard version 2.1.9.

During March, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard version 3.0.2 and underwent a significant design change, giving the board a whole new appearance. The new board skin received much acclaim from fellow Ikonboard staff, designers, and users.

As of June 24, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard 3.1.0. Not long after this, it was upgraded further to version 3.1.1, at which it continues to stand. The heavy customisation and updating put into the board software prompted Benjamin to keep this stable version as it is.

Due to continuous member requests, online merchandising was launched using [[Wikipedia:CafePress|CafePress]]. This was implimented as of March 17, 2003, allowing furry fans to buy t-shirts and related merchandise which proudly sport the furry.ca logo.

After [[RL]] time constraints began to affect Benjamin's Internet habits, moderators were assigned on the furry.ca forum. On February 21, 2004, the staff grew to include [[Silverfang]], [[Wotan]], and [[Sedyah]], in an apparently succesful attempt to curb trolling and generally bad behavior by forum users.

On December 20, 2004, the furry.ca main site was given a major design overhaul. This included the complete redesign of the graphics, incorporation of iframes into the layout, and some much-needed content revisions. The new design was intended to improve the visual appeal and ease of use of the furry.ca web site.

In preparation of a change over to a new owner, URL, and site design, the toronto-furry home page was removed from it's home on furry.ca on October 13, 2005. Along with it, the TorFurIM list was discontinued.

furry.ca's forum staff expanded slightly with the addition of two female moderators from Canada's west coast. [[Lady Serpent]] was appointed to the staff on March 14, 2006, followed by prolific forum poster [[SheWolf]] on June 26, 2006. Both appointments have been regarded positively by the community overall. Regrettably, the following January, SheWolf was removed from her staff position due to personal matters from beyond the site.

On April 24, 2008, after a long and successful stint since it's inception, the furry.ca forum's database had been destroyed by a hacker. For technical reasons, the old forum was not revived, however it found new life using Simple Machines Forums as the new management software. This included the complete redesign of the graphics, incorporation of iframes into the layout, and some much-needed content revisions. The new design was intended to improve the visual appeal and ease of use of the furry.ca web site.

In preparation of a change over to a new owner, URL, and site design, the toronto-furry home page was removed from it's home on furry.ca on October 13, 2005. Along with it, the TorFurIM list was discontinued.

furry.ca's forum staff expanded slightly with the addition of two female moderators from Canada's west coast. [[Lady Serpent]] was appointed to the staff on March 14, 2006, followed by prolific forum poster [[SheWolf]] on June 26, 2006. Both appointments have been regarded positively by the community overall. Regrettably, the following January, SheWolf was removed from her staff position due to personal matters from beyond the site.

Prior to it's creation, Benjamin had been running a Canadian furry themed web ring, IM listing, and the toronto-furry home page for the [[Toronto Furry|Toronto Furry Mailing List]]. Since this time, the creation of furry.ca itself has expanded to include a banner exchange and message board. The IM listing was later closed down in favor of the citizens listing built directly into the furry.ca site design itself. Merchandise related to the site is available through CafePress.

TorFurICQ (later named TorFurIM) was the first of Benjamin's Canadian furry oriented resources to precede the existence of furry.ca. It was founded on March 14, 1999, and served as a listing of furries' instant messaging information that they would volunteer to have published on the site.

On April 12, 1999, [http://www.furry.ca/ring The Canadian Furry Web Ring] was founded. [[:Category:Web rings|Web rings]] were rather commonplace during this time and viewed as a useful tool to help boost a web site's traffic. The CFWR was founded for the use of Canadian furry artists, writers, fans, and so on.

Using the same basic concept as the TorFurICQ list, the CanuckFurryICQ list was born on September 4, 1999. Initially, it published Canadian furs' ICQ information that was submitted voluntarily by each respective individual. Later, on February 26, 2002, it was expanded to include the four major IMs, and was suitably renamed to CanuckFurryIM. It was later renamed to furry.ca IM, at which the name stayed until the list was shut down on June 19, 2005 in favor of simplifying the furry.ca site overall. At the time it was shut down, the furry.ca citizens listing was expanded in order to publish Canadian furs' contact information, including each of the four major IMs.

Around about December 17, 1999, The Toronto Furry Home Page was passed to Benjamin from it's original founder, [[Silfur]]. At this time, it was moved to Benjamin's current web host and promptly rewritten and redesigned.

The ''Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA)'' assumed regulatory power over the .ca top level domain as of November 8, 2000. It's mandate included making .ca domains available to Canadian citizens.

Having drawn for all of his life, Benjamin is a well-practiced and accomplished furry [[artist]]. He had begun drawing at a young age and continued to refine his skills right through to high school, where he had begun taking as many art classes at school as was possible to get into. Under the recommendation of one of his high school teachers, he enrolled in a fine arts programme at university to further broaden his artistic horizons and refine his skills and talents.

During university, Benjamin was introduced to the brushed ink medium which he had quickly incorporated into his style for finishing his furry artwork. In fact, much of Benjamin's early painted artwork was done in the furry theme, for drawing classes in his university programme.

Benjamin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art & Art History from the University of Toronto. Since his graduation, he has further developed his skills, continuing to primarily use the brushed ink medium along with watercolour painting in order to finish his artwork.

Benjamin prefers to draw in a realistic fashion, completing his works with real media. This is done for the simple reason that Benjamin likes to draw his subjects as they may be seen if they were to exist in the real world, given realistic proportions and details. He is best known for his artwork of anthropomorphic big cats, especially lions. These particular subjects are chosen by the artist for spiritual and aesthetic reasons.

In recent years, much of Benjamin's creative energy has gone toward his graphic web design practice. He has developed several furry community web sites, his own gallery/personal site, as well as several commercial sites done for various clients.

== Personal History ==

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on March 4, 1974, Benjamin had been raised in the suburban towns surrounding Toronto. He attributes December 26, 1994 as being the day in which he first found out about the [[furry]] fandom, once he had stumbled upon a dial-up [[BBS]] called [[The Trap Line]], based out of nearby Toronto. His early online presence reflected his love for the 1994 hit movie, [[The Lion King]], by use of a [[lion]] for his chosen species and normally [[Simba]], or a variation thereof, for his nickname.

Benjamin continued his education after high school, having begun studies at the University of Toronto's Erindale Campus (in Mississauga) in the Fall of 1994, in their Art & Art History (Fine Arts) programme. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in that same programme, in the Spring of 1997. It was through the dial-up SLIP connection available at the school through which Benjamin got his first taste of furry Internet life. Through this service, using the [[Wikipedia:Telnet|telnet]], Benjamin acquired his first MUCKing character at [[FurryMUCK]] on February 22, 1995.

In March of 1997, Benjamin was invited to become the building wizard of [[FurryFaire]], a medieval themed 100% furry MUCK. He accepted the offer and remained on the wizard staff there until 2005, when he left the MUCK due to an eventual lack of interest. After a span of being a trusted [[HelpStaff]]er on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications]], Benjamin had been promoted to wizard status in the Fall of 1997. He continues to hold this position at SPR to this day.

After a fair bit of self-exploration, species-trial, soul-searching, deep thought and reflection, Benjamin had come to the conclusion that his now current species, the liger, was what best suited him. This revelation developed in the late Summer and early Fall of 1997.

During the transition time of his fursona, Benjamin had acquired what is currently known as FurryIM and began to grow that project into a more successful furry resource.

[[furry.ca]] has since then grown to include a web ring, banner exchange, message board, and various other bits of furry information that would be beneficial primarily to Canadian furries.

In November of 2002, Benjamin discussed with [[WhiteShepherd]] the installation of proper forum software on [[Furtopia]] to replace the older, less useful bulletin board scripts that were previously in use. On November 25, 2002, an Ikonboard was installed on the server with its skin graphics, logo design, and so on designed by Benjamin. The logo and header graphics were so popular that they were later adapted to the main Furtopia site and used in the first t-shirts to be produced as a fund-raiser for this furry ISP. Benjamin continues to serve as administrator on the [http://forums.furtopia.org furtopia.org forums] he had founded.

In late January of 2004, Benjamin moved from his home of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, to his current residence ([[The House]]) in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, residing in a home simply referred to as "[[The House]]". This move let him be with his mate, [[Sedyah]], and become part of her family. In May of 2007, the household moved to a new home in Coniston, Ontario, Canada, which is a small town that lies just east of Sudbury.

It plays home to Benjamin's artwork, photography, writing, resume, links, forums, liger information, and so on. It also hosts some guest artwork, featuring the talents of [[Bloodhound]], [[EbonyTigress]], [[Scheriff]], [[Xtro]], and [[Zeiros]]. Essentially, StripeyManey is a personal site which features Benjamin's various projects he works (or has worked) on.

The origin of the name, StripeyManey, is fairly simple. It was intended as a playful yet dignified and distinct description of the artist's [[fursona]], being as "stripey as a tiger" and "maney as a lion". It is also hoped that the name is memorable, to help visitors return every so often.

The design of the central section of the site was modelled after the biography that Benjamin had created for the [[Feral!]] 2001 Survival Guide. In November of 2002, Benjamin discussed with [[WhiteShepherd]] the installation of proper forum software on [[Furtopia]] to replace the older, less useful bulletin board scripts that were previously in use. On November 25, 2002, an Ikonboard was installed on the server with its skin graphics, logo design, and so on designed by Benjamin. The logo and header graphics were so popular that they were later adapted to the main Furtopia site and used in the first t-shirts to be produced as a fund-raiser for this furry ISP. In late January of 2004, Benjamin moved from his home of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, to his current residence ([[The House]]) in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, residing in a home simply referred to as "[[The House]]". TorFurICQ (later named TorFurIM) was the first of Benjamin's Canadian furry oriented resources to precede the existence of furry.ca. It was founded on March 14, 1999, and served as a listing of furries' instant messaging information that they would volunteer to have published on the site.

On April 12, 1999, [http://www.furry.ca/ring The Canadian Furry Web Ring] was founded. [[:Category:Web rings|Web rings]] were rather commonplace during this time and viewed as a useful tool to help boost a web site's traffic. The CFWR was founded for the use of Canadian furry artists, writers, fans, and so on.

Using the same basic concept as the TorFurICQ list, the CanuckFurryICQ list was born on September 4, 1999. Initially, it published Canadian furs' ICQ information that was submitted voluntarily by each respective individual. Later, on February 26, 2002, it was expanded to include the four major IMs, and was suitably renamed to CanuckFurryIM. It was later renamed to furry.ca IM, at which the name stayed until the list was shut down on June 19, 2005 in favor of simplifying the furry.ca site overall. At the time it was shut down, the furry.ca citizens listing was expanded in order to publish Canadian furs' contact information, including each of the four major IMs.

Around about December 17, 1999, The Toronto Furry Home Page was passed to Benjamin from it's original founder, [[Silfur]]. At this time, it was moved to Benjamin's current web host and promptly rewritten and redesigned.

The ''Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA)'' assumed regulatory power over the .ca top level domain as of November 8, 2000. It's mandate included making .ca domains available to Canadian citizens.

After being made aware of the change of regulations regarding .ca domains, Benjamin registered furry.ca on December 8, 2000 and published the first design for that site within 24 hours. The CFWR, TorFurICQ, Toronto Furry Home Page, and CanuckFurryICQ sites were promptly ported over to furry.ca, finding permanent homes in subdirectories off the new domain.

The first new Canadian furry service to be released since the founding of furry.ca itself came on December 16, 2000. It was a banner exchange, aptly named the [http://www.furry.ca/exchange furry.ca exchange], used to help Canadian furs advertise their respective web sites.

On July 29, 2001, the [http://www.furry.ca/cgi-bin/furryca/forum/ikonboard.cgi furry.ca forum] was born, giving Canadian furs and foreigners alike a perportedly stress-free, friendly place to chat about furry things, Canadianness, and whatnot. It was perhaps the most significant addition to the furry.ca site, since it has helped build and strengthen the Canadian furry community and brings everyone together in a single, central location. The initial release of the board used Ikonboard version 2.1.9.

During March, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard version 3.0.2 and underwent a significant design change, giving the board a whole new appearance. The new board skin received much acclaim from fellow Ikonboard staff, designers, and users.

As of June 24, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard 3.1.0. Not long after this, it was upgraded further to version 3.1.1, at which it continues to stand. The heavy customisation and updating put into the board software prompted Benjamin to keep this stable version as it is.

TorFurICQ evolved into TorFurIM on October 2, 2002, expanding it's service to include the four major IM services, like the furry.ca IM listing had done.

Due to continuous member requests, [http://www.cafepress.com/furryca online merchandising] was launched using [[Wikipedia:CafePress|CafePress]]' services. This was implimented as of March 17, 2003, allowing furry fans to buy t-shirts and related merchandise which proudly sport the furry.ca logo.

After [[RL]] time constraints began to affect Benjamin's Internet habits, moderators were assigned on the furry.ca forum. On February 21, 2004, the staff grew to include [[Silverfang]], [[Wotan]], and [[Sedyah]], in an apparently succesful attempt to curb trolling and generally bad behavior by forum users.

On December 20, 2004, the furry.ca main site was given a major design overhaul. This included the complete redesign of the graphics, incorporation of iframes into the layout, and some much-needed content revisions. The new design was intended to improve the visual appeal and ease of use of the furry.ca web site.

In preparation of a change over to a new owner, URL, and site design, the toronto-furry home page was removed from it's home on furry.ca on October 13, 2005. Along with it, the TorFurIM list was discontinued.

furry.ca's forum staff expanded slightly with the addition of two female moderators from Canada's west coast. [[Lady Serpent]] was appointed to the staff on March 14, 2006, followed by prolific forum poster [[SheWolf]] on June 26, 2006. Both appointments have been regarded positively by the community overall. Regrettably, the following January, SheWolf was removed from her staff position due to personal matters from beyond the site.

Benjamin and Sedyah moved in together at that time, both moving in to the new home at the same time. Sedyah had previously lived in the Flour Mill suburb of Sudbury and Benjamin had moved up from Burlington, Ontario, Canada. "The kittlings" refers to Sedyah's children, now Benjamin's step-children. The kittlings continue to exhibit more and more furry traits...

In early January of 2005, [[Cyber Snake]] had moved into The House, occupying the spacious finished portion of the basement. He continued to reside there until the Spring of 2006, at which time he moved back to his parents' residence.

Soon after [[Cyber Snake]]'s departure, [[Mune Metsukai]] had moved into the void in the basement. It was around the middle of July 2006 that this move was made. A few months later, [[James Bluewolf]] also moved into the basement area, having begun the process in October of 2006.

The House itself is a three bedroom bungalow built in the 1940s. It appears to have had a few extensions made to it, but it never really outgrew its box-like appeal. It has a lot of character and charm, reflecting that of its residents.

This home plays host to the occasional furry party, especially for special events and holidays, and has had more than a dozen furs in attendance at some parties. With a new deck at both the front and back entrances, it should be an especially happening place to hang out at during the summer months.

== Artistic Development and Practice ==

Having drawn for all of his life, Benjamin is a well-practiced and accomplished furry [[artist]]. He had begun drawing at a young age and continued to refine his skills right through to high school, where he had begun taking as many art classes at school as was possible to get into. Under the recommendation of one of his high school teachers, he enrolled in a fine arts programme at university to further broaden his artistic horizons and refine his skills and talents.

During university, Benjamin was introduced to the brushed ink medium which he had quickly incorporated into his style for finishing his furry artwork. In fact, much of Benjamin's early painted artwork was done in the furry theme, for drawing classes in his university programme.

Benjamin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art & Art History from the University of Toronto. Since his graduation, he has further developed his skills, continuing to primarily use the brushed ink medium along with watercolour painting in order to finish his artwork.

Benjamin prefers to draw in a realistic fashion, completing his works with real media. This is done for the simple reason that Benjamin likes to draw his subjects as they may be seen if they were to exist in the real world, given realistic proportions and details. He is best known for his artwork of anthropomorphic big cats, especially lions. These particular subjects are chosen by the artist for spiritual and aesthetic reasons.

In recent years, much of Benjamin's creative energy has gone toward his graphic web design practice. He has developed several furry community web sites, his own gallery/personal site, as well as several commercial sites done for various clients.

== Personal History ==

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on March 4, 1974, Benjamin had been raised in the suburban towns surrounding Toronto. He attributes December 26, 1994 as being the day in which he first found out about the [[furry]] fandom, once he had stumbled upon a dial-up [[BBS]] called [[The Trap Line]], based out of nearby Toronto. His early online presence reflected his love for the 1994 hit movie, [[The Lion King]], by use of a [[lion]] for his chosen species and normally [[Simba]], or a variation thereof, for his nickname.

Benjamin continued his education after high school, having begun studies at the University of Toronto's Erindale Campus (in Mississauga) in the Fall of 1994, in their Art & Art History (Fine Arts) programme. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in that same programme, in the Spring of 1997. It was through the dial-up SLIP connection available at the school through which Benjamin got his first taste of furry Internet life. Through this service, using the [[Wikipedia:Telnet|telnet]], Benjamin acquired his first MUCKing character at [[FurryMUCK]] on February 22, 1995.

In March of 1997, Benjamin was invited to become the building wizard of [[FurryFaire]], a medieval themed 100% furry MUCK. He accepted the offer and remained on the wizard staff there until 2005, when he left the MUCK due to an eventual lack of interest. After a span of being a trusted [[HelpStaff]]er on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications]], Benjamin had been promoted to wizard status in the Fall of 1997. He continues to hold this position at SPR to this day.

After a fair bit of self-exploration, species-trial, soul-searching, deep thought and reflection, Benjamin had come to the conclusion that his now current species, the liger, was what best suited him. This revelation developed in the late Summer and early Fall of 1997.

During the transition time of his fursona, Benjamin had acquired what is currently known as FurryIM and began to grow that project into a more successful furry resource.

== History ==

TorFurICQ (later named TorFurIM) was the first of Benjamin's Canadian furry oriented resources to precede the existence of furry.ca. It was founded on March 14, 1999, and served as a listing of furries' instant messaging information that they would volunteer to have published on the site.

On April 12, 1999, [http://www.furry.ca/ring The Canadian Furry Web Ring] was founded. [[:Category:Web rings|Web rings]] were rather commonplace during this time and viewed as a useful tool to help boost a web site's traffic. The CFWR was founded for the use of Canadian furry artists, writers, fans, and so on.

Using the same basic concept as the TorFurICQ list, the CanuckFurryICQ list was born on September 4, 1999. Initially, it published Canadian furs' ICQ information that was submitted voluntarily by each respective individual. Later, on February 26, 2002, it was expanded to include the four major IMs, and was suitably renamed to CanuckFurryIM. It was later renamed to furry.ca IM, at which the name stayed until the list was shut down on June 19, 2005 in favor of simplifying the furry.ca site overall. At the time it was shut down, the furry.ca citizens listing was expanded in order to publish Canadian furs' contact information, including each of the four major IMs.

Around about December 17, 1999, The Toronto Furry Home Page was passed to Benjamin from it's original founder, [[Silfur]]. At this time, it was moved to Benjamin's current web host and promptly rewritten and redesigned.

The ''Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA)'' assumed regulatory power over the .ca top level domain as of November 8, 2000. It's mandate included making .ca domains available to Canadian citizens.

After being made aware of the change of regulations regarding .ca domains, Benjamin registered furry.ca on December 8, 2000 and published the first design for that site within 24 hours. The CFWR, TorFurICQ, Toronto Furry Home Page, and CanuckFurryICQ sites were promptly ported over to furry.ca, finding permanent homes in subdirectories off the new domain.

The first new Canadian furry service to be released since the founding of furry.ca itself came on December 16, 2000. It was a banner exchange, aptly named the [http://www.furry.ca/exchange furry.ca exchange], used to help Canadian furs advertise their respective web sites.

On July 29, 2001, the [http://www.furry.ca/cgi-bin/furryca/forum/ikonboard.cgi furry.ca forum] was born, giving Canadian furs and foreigners alike a perportedly stress-free, friendly place to chat about furry things, Canadianness, and whatnot. It was perhaps the most significant addition to the furry.ca site, since it has helped build and strengthen the Canadian furry community and brings everyone together in a single, central location. The initial release of the board used Ikonboard version 2.1.9.

During March, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard version 3.0.2 and underwent a significant design change, giving the board a whole new appearance. The new board skin received much acclaim from fellow Ikonboard staff, designers, and users.

As of June 24, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard 3.1.0. Not long after this, it was upgraded further to version 3.1.1, at which it continues to stand. The heavy customisation and updating put into the board software prompted Benjamin to keep this stable version as it is.

TorFurICQ evolved into TorFurIM on October 2, 2002, expanding it's service to include the four major IM services, like the furry.ca IM listing had done.

Due to continuous member requests, [http://www.cafepress.com/furryca online merchandising] was launched using [[Wikipedia:CafePress|CafePress]]' services. This was implimented as of March 17, 2003, allowing furry fans to buy t-shirts and related merchandise which proudly sport the furry.ca logo.

After [[RL]] time constraints began to affect Benjamin's Internet habits, moderators were assigned on the furry.ca forum. On February 21, 2004, the staff grew to include [[Silverfang]], [[Wotan]], and [[Sedyah]], in an apparently succesful attempt to curb trolling and generally bad behavior by forum users.

On December 20, 2004, the furry.ca main site was given a major design overhaul. This included the complete redesign of the graphics, incorporation of iframes into the layout, and some much-needed content revisions. The new design was intended to improve the visual appeal and ease of use of the furry.ca web site.

In preparation of a change over to a new owner, URL, and site design, the toronto-furry home page was removed from it's home on furry.ca on October 13, 2005. Along with it, the TorFurIM list was discontinued.

furry.ca's forum staff expanded slightly with the addition of two female moderators from Canada's west coast. [[Lady Serpent]] was appointed to the staff on March 14, 2006, followed by prolific forum poster [[SheWolf]] on June 26, 2006. Both appointments have been regarded positively by the community overall.

== Artistic Development and Practice ==

Having drawn for all of his life, Benjamin is a well-practiced and accomplished furry [[artist]]. He had begun drawing at a young age and continued to refine his skills right through to high school, where he had begun taking as many art classes at school as was possible to get into. Under the recommendation of one of his high school teachers, he enrolled in a fine arts programme at university to further broaden his artistic horizons and refine his skills and talents.

During university, Benjamin was introduced to the brushed ink medium which he had quickly incorporated into his style for finishing his furry artwork. In fact, much of Benjamin's early painted artwork was done in the furry theme, for drawing classes in his university programme.

Benjamin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art & Art History from the University of Toronto. Since his graduation, he has further developed his skills, continuing to primarily use the brushed ink medium along with watercolour painting in order to finish his artwork.

Benjamin prefers to draw in a realistic fashion, completing his works with real media. This is done for the simple reason that Benjamin likes to draw his subjects as they may be seen if they were to exist in the real world, given realistic proportions and details. He is best known for his artwork of anthropomorphic big cats, especially lions. These particular subjects are chosen by the artist for spiritual and aesthetic reasons.

In recent years, much of Benjamin's creative energy has gone toward his graphic web design practice. He has developed several furry community web sites, his own gallery/personal site, as well as several commercial sites done for various clients.

Some of the work there ranges from his high school years, through his university career, and the years that follow the completion of his formal education.

== Personal History ==

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on March 4, 1974, Benjamin had been raised in the suburban towns surrounding Toronto. He attributes December 26, 1994 as being the day in which he first found out about the [[furry]] fandom, once he had stumbled upon a dial-up [[BBS]] called [[The Trap Line]], based out of nearby Toronto. His early online presence reflected his love for the 1994 hit movie, [[The Lion King]], by use of a [[lion]] for his chosen species and normally [[Simba]], or a variation thereof, for his nickname.

Benjamin continued his education after high school, having begun studies at the University of Toronto's Erindale Campus (in Mississauga) in the Fall of 1994, in their Art & Art History (Fine Arts) programme. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in that same programme, in the Spring of 1997. It was through the dial-up SLIP connection available at the school through which Benjamin got his first taste of furry Internet life. Through this service, using the [[Wikipedia:Telnet|telnet]], Benjamin acquired his first MUCKing character at [[FurryMUCK]] on February 22, 1995.

In March of 1997, Benjamin was invited to become the building wizard of [[FurryFaire]], a medieval themed 100% furry MUCK. He accepted the offer and remained on the wizard staff there until 2005, when he left the MUCK due to an eventual lack of interest. After a span of being a trusted [[HelpStaff]]er on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications]], Benjamin had been promoted to wizard status in the Fall of 1997. He continues to hold this position at SPR to this day.

After a fair bit of self-exploration, species-trial, soul-searching, deep thought and reflection, Benjamin had come to the conclusion that his now current species, the liger, was what best suited him. This revelation developed in the late Summer and early Fall of 1997.

During the transition time of his fursona, Benjamin had acquired what is currently known as FurryIM and began to grow that project into a more successful furry resource.

During his time with this organisation, he had created its logo, designed and/or maintained it's online presence, and designed its con books, among other things. He even led various art-related workshops at Feral!, imparting his knowledge and experience to fellow furs in attendance. Benjamin's involvement with Feral! continued until January of 2002, when he resigned his committee position for reasons not worth mentioning here.

FurryIM had also declined to a state of disrepair by late 2002, due to a lack of time to manually update it's database. Demand became too high for it to be efficiently maintained, except by an automated process which continues to be under development by [[Trevor Gryffyn]].

On July 1, 2000, Benjamin had acquired the domain name of [http://www.stripeymaney.com stripeymaney.com] to which his furry art gallery and personal (vanity) site migrated.

Later that same year, on December 8, 2000, Benjamin had acquired the domain name [http://www.furry.ca furry.ca] under the recommendation from [[MelSkunk]] that this would be a great place to house his Canadian furry related web sites. [[furry.ca]] has since then grown to include a web ring, banner exchange, message board, and various other bits of furry information that would be beneficial primarily to Canadian furries.

In November of 2002, Benjamin discussed with [[WhiteShepherd]] the installation of proper forum software on [[Furtopia]] to replace the older, less useful bulletin board scripts that were previously in use. On November 25, 2002, an Ikonboard was installed on the server with its skin graphics, logo design, and so on designed by Benjamin. The logo and header graphics were so popular that they were later adapted to the main Furtopia site and used in the first t-shirts to be produced as a fund-raiser for this furry ISP. Benjamin continues to serve as administrator on the [http://forums.furtopia.org furtopia.org forums] he had founded.

In late January of 2004, Benjamin moved from his home of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, to his current residence in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. This move let him be with his mate, [[Sedyah]], and become part of her family.

Essentially, StripeyManey is a personal site which features Benjamin's various projects he works (or has worked) on.

The origin of the name, StripeyManey, is fairly simple. It was intended as a playful yet dignified and distinct description of the artist's [[fursona]], being as "stripey as a tiger" and "maney as a lion". It is also hoped that the name is memorable, to help visitors return every so often.

The design of the central section of the site was modelled after the biography that Benjamin had created for the [[Feral!]] 2001 Survival Guide. He is also administrator of the [[Toronto Furry]] Mailing List (TorFur), and chair of [[Camp Feral]] in 2005 and 2006. He also wrote and illustrated a partially-furry [[comic]], ''Ignorance Deserves Death'', which has been on hiatus since March 2005 after starting a new musical project as a follow-up to his 2004 album release, [[One Man Boy Band]].

Potoroo has a University degree in theatre and history from the University of Guelph. He joined the [[wikipedia:Toronto|Toronto]] Furry community in 1998. The optimal place to do this is to click on the "Discussion" tab at the top of each article page, but e-mailing an admin works as well, though it might take a bit longer.

:As for the removal of Peaches from the staff listing, I think that you have provided adequate information for that, and have shown that you are someone who would know this information. That should settle that matter.

:By creating an account, you have not created a wiki page about you. I would note that there is a red link to your name in the Furtopia article, which means that if someone felt so moved, they could create an article about you. While we can exclude you from the wiki, that is considered an option of last resort. A marginally better solution might be that you could write a page about yourself, and we could make it editable only by you (obviously, the optimal solution would be to not worry about who can edit it at all, since we keep a pretty tight rein on vandalism here).

Yes, I have seen where edits by disgruntled members that have been banned have been removed quickly and I do appreciate that. Deviouswolfie being one of them.

I'd like to say something here.
Have you heard of wikipedia? Of course you have, it's the huge, free collective of encyclopaedic data. This site runs on the same software as wikipedia, namely MediaWiki. Now, the entire wiki concept was created to service a ''community'' - In the original wiki's case, the programming community. This wiki is, of course, a wiki for the furry community. The wiki concept is based around the rather noble idea that everyone in the community counts, so everyone in the community should have the right to influence that community - by editing pages in a wiki, to further the collective of knowledge the wiki provides. Demanding to be the sole editor of a wiki page is akin to demanding to be the only person who can walk in a town square, or to be the only person who can use a public internet cafe. If you want to have a page about Furtopia which you are the sole editor(s) of, then why not create one on your own servers, editable only by you? The wiki is a free-speech zone, grown not by a central group, but by a dynamic population of users.

Ok being 48hrs, I officialy close this vote. (RK was voted to be removed from his position as a mod.

Hey all!
You all might notice that my status has been restored to Member.
Well, there's some reasons for this and I thought I might share them with you all.

First and foremost, however, I would like to tell you that it has absolutely been my pleasure to serve as a Mod for the almost year and a half since Kada picked me for the vote. I thank you all for making this time so special to me.

Alas, my time has been so spread out lately...with my Children growing up they require more and more "DaddyKat" time, which is my greatest pleasure to give them.

Those who have been either following my LJ or who are closest to me already know that things with my band have snowballed to the point of just about crazy. We are waiting for something....something MONUMENTAL that may possibly happen.
so I'm afriad that any time away from my children MUST be directed elsewhere at this time.

So...it is with a heavy heart indeed that I officially step out of the Modlight and join the illustrious ranks of the members.....But please believe that in doing so, I am NOT leaving my home here at furtopia, and will still find time to chat with you in irc, or hunt you down for some good times at the next con! :)

The IM listing was later closed down in favor of the citizens listing built directly into the furry.ca site design itself. TorFurICQ (later named TorFurIM) was the first of Benjamin's Canadian furry oriented resources to precede the existence of furry.ca. It was founded on March 14, 1999, and served as a listing of furries' instant messaging information that they would volunteer to have published on the site.

On April 12, 1999, [http://www.furry.ca/ring The Canadian Furry Web Ring] was founded. [[:Category:Web rings|Web rings]] were rather commonplace during this time and viewed as a useful tool to help boost a web site's traffic. The CFWR was founded for the use of Canadian furry artists, writers, fans, and so on.

Using the same basic concept as the TorFurICQ list, the CanuckFurryICQ list was born on September 4, 1999. Initially, it published Canadian furs' ICQ information that was submitted voluntarily by each respective individual. Later, on February 26, 2002, it was expanded to include the four major IMs, and was suitably renamed to CanuckFurryIM. It was later renamed to furry.ca IM, at which the name stayed until the list was shut down on June 19, 2005 in favor of simplifying the furry.ca site overall. At the time it was shut down, the furry.ca citizens listing was expanded in order to publish Canadian furs' contact information, including each of the four major IMs.

Around about December 17, 1999, The Toronto Furry Home Page was passed to Benjamin from it's original founder, [[Silfur]]. At this time, it was moved to Benjamin's current web host and promptly rewritten and redesigned.

The ''Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA)'' assumed regulatory power over the .ca top level domain as of November 8, 2000. It's mandate included making .ca domains available to Canadian citizens.

After being made aware of the change of regulations regarding .ca domains, Benjamin registered furry.ca on December 8, 2000 and published the first design for that site within 24 hours. The CFWR, TorFurICQ, Toronto Furry Home Page, and CanuckFurryICQ sites were promptly ported over to furry.ca, finding permanent homes in subdirectories off the new domain.

The first new Canadian furry service to be released since the founding of furry.ca itself came on December 16, 2000. It was a banner exchange, aptly named the [http://www.furry.ca/exchange furry.ca exchange], used to help Canadian furs advertise their respective web sites.

On July 29, 2001, the [http://www.furry.ca/cgi-bin/furryca/forum/ikonboard.cgi furry.ca forum] was born, giving Canadian furs and foreigners alike a perportedly stress-free, friendly place to chat about furry things, Canadianness, and whatnot. It was perhaps the most significant addition to the furry.ca site, since it has helped build and strengthen the Canadian furry community and brings everyone together in a single, central location. The initial release of the board used Ikonboard version 2.1.9.

During March, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard version 3.0.2 and underwent a significant design change, giving the board a whole new appearance. The new board skin received much acclaim from fellow Ikonboard staff, designers, and users.

As of June 24, 2002, the furry.ca forum was upgraded to Ikonboard 3.1.0. Not long after this, it was upgraded further to version 3.1.1, at which it continues to stand. The heavy customisation and updating put into the board software prompted Benjamin to keep this stable version as it is.

TorFurICQ evolved into TorFurIM on October 2, 2002, expanding it's service to include the four major IM services, like the furry.ca IM listing had done.

Due to continuous member requests, [http://www.cafepress.com/furryca online merchandising] was launched using [[Wikipedia:CafePress|CafePress]]' services. This was implimented as of March 17, 2003, allowing furry fans to buy t-shirts and related merchandise which proudly sport the furry.ca logo.

After [[RL]] time constraints began to affect Benjamin's Internet habits, moderators were assigned on the furry.ca forum. On February 21, 2004, the staff grew to include [[Silverfang]], [[Wotan]], and [[Sedyah]], in an apparently succesful attempt to curb trolling and generally bad behavior by forum users.

On December 20, 2004, the furry.ca main site was given a major design overhaul. This included the complete redesign of the graphics, incorporation of iframes into the layout, and some much-needed content revisions. The new design was intended to improve the visual appeal and ease of use of the furry.ca web site.

In preparation of a change over to a new owner, URL, and site design, the toronto-furry home page was removed from it's home on furry.ca on October 13, 2005. Along with it, the TorFurIM list was discontinued.

Having drawn for all of his life, Benjamin is a well-practiced and accomplished furry [[artist]]. He had begun drawing at a young age and continued to refine his skills right through to high school, where he had begun taking as many art classes at school as was possible to get into. Under the recommendation of one of his high school teachers, he enrolled in a fine arts programme at university to further broaden his artistic horizons and refine his skills and talents.

During university, Benjamin was introduced to the brushed ink medium which he had quickly incorporated into his style for finishing his furry artwork. In fact, much of Benjamin's early painted artwork was done in the furry theme, for drawing classes in his university programme.

Benjamin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art & Art History from the University of Toronto. Since his graduation, he has further developed his skills, continuing to primarily use the brushed ink medium along with watercolour painting in order to finish his artwork.

This is done for the simple reason that Benjamin likes to draw his subjects as they may be seen if they were to exist in the real world, given realistic proportions and details. He is best known for his artwork of anthropomorphic big cats, especially lions. These particular subjects are chosen by the artist for spiritual and aesthetic reasons.

In recent years, much of Benjamin's creative energy has gone toward his graphic web design practice. He has developed several furry community web sites, his own gallery/personal site, as well as several commercial sites done for various clients.

== Personal History ==

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada on March 4, 1974, Benjamin had been raised in the suburban towns surrounding Toronto. He attributes December 26, 1994 as being the day in which he first found out about the [[furry]] fandom, once he had stumbled upon a dial-up [[BBS]] called [[The Trap Line]], based out of nearby Toronto. His early online presence reflected his love for the 1994 hit movie, [[The Lion King]], by use of a [[lion]] for his chosen species and normally [[Simba]], or a variation thereof, for his nickname.

Benjamin continued his education after high school, having begun studies at the University of Toronto's Erindale Campus (in Mississauga) in the Fall of 1994, in their Art & Art History (Fine Arts) programme. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in that same programme, in the Spring of 1997. It was through the dial-up SLIP connection available at the school through which Benjamin got his first taste of furry Internet life. Through this service, using the [[Wikipedia:Telnet|telnet]], Benjamin acquired his first MUCKing character at [[FurryMUCK]] on February 22, 1995.

In March of 1997, Benjamin was invited to become the building wizard of [[FurryFaire]], a medieval themed 100% furry MUCK. He accepted the offer and remained on the wizard staff there until 2005, when he left the MUCK due to an eventual lack of interest. After a span of being a trusted [[HelpStaff]]er on [[Sociopolitical Ramifications]], Benjamin had been promoted to wizard status in the Fall of 1997. He continues to hold this position at SPR to this day.

After a fair bit of self-exploration, species-trial, soul-searching, deep thought and reflection, Benjamin had come to the conclusion that his now current species, the liger, was what best suited him. This revelation developed in the late Summer and early Fall of 1997.

During the transition time of his fursona, Benjamin had acquired what is currently known as FurryIM and began to grow that project into a more successful furry resource.

Benjamin's involvement with Feral! continued until January of 2002, when he resigned his committee position for reasons not worth mentioning here.

FurryIM had also declined to a state of disrepair by late 2002, due to a lack of time to manually update it's database. Demand became too high for it to be efficiently maintained, except by an automated process which continues to be under development by [[Trevor Gryffyn]].

On July 1, 2000, Benjamin had acquired the domain name of [http://www.stripeymaney.com stripeymaney.com] to which his furry art gallery and personal (vanity) site migrated.

Later that same year, on December 8, 2000, Benjamin had acquired the domain name [http://www.furry.ca furry.ca] under the recommendation from [[MelSkunk]] that this would be a great place to house his Canadian furry related web sites. [[furry.ca]] has since then grown to include a web ring, banner exchange, message board, and various other bits of furry information that would be beneficial primarily to Canadian furries.

In November of 2002, Benjamin discussed with [[WhiteShepherd]] the installation of proper forum software on [[Furtopia]] to replace the older, less useful bulletin board scripts that were previously in use. On November 25, 2002, an Ikonboard was installed on the server with its skin graphics, logo design, and so on designed by Benjamin. The logo and header graphics were so popular that they were later adapted to the main Furtopia site and used in the first t-shirts to be produced as a fund-raiser for this furry ISP. Benjamin continues to serve as administrator on the [http://forums.furtopia.org furtopia.org forums] he had founded.

In late January of 2004, Benjamin moved from his home of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, to his current residence in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. This move let him be with his mate, [[Sedyah]], and become part of her family.
