Hughbert Nicolas Manatee, or Hugh Manatee is a supporting character on the Funday PawPet Show.

Hugh is voiced by JR, the puppeteer of one of the show's resident ferrets, Poink T. Ferret. Hugh is known for his squeaky voice, naive demeanor and infatuation with Fudgie the Whale, Chicken In A Biscuit crackers and Jimmy Buffett. It is unknown if Hugh is a child or an old man, but statements from the sea cow such as "pulled a hammy" and "dropped my coinpurse" seem to indicate the latter. He moos a lot, often replacing song lyrics with mooing, and likes to swish his flippers back and forth rapidly, which he calls "flippering."

By his own admission, if you view Hugh from the back, he looks like half a buttcheek. On one show, Hugh appeared with a boat propeller lodged in his head. Hugh is one of the few puppets in use on the show that was not made by Folkmanis.

Hugh has a penchant for being naive and gullible; he has appeared wearing a toupee, a Prince Albert tattoo on his flipper, and most recently, wearing makeup similar to Heath Ledger's Joker portrayal from "The Dark Knight." This last one was also partially an attempt to retire the previous manatee puppet for a new one since the original was starting to show some wear; but audience reaction to some differences in appearance prompted keeping the original until a suitable replacement can be obtained.

Recently Hugh has become a spokesman for S.A.B. Which stands for "Seacows Against Beebling." Hear his Public Service Announcement here:http://poink.furryhost.com/poinkcasts/public_service_announcement.mp3

JR (an abbreviation of his original alias, Jackrabbit; born October 15th, 1968) is a furry who lives in Orlando, Florida, United States. His real name is Dan Boatright. His fursona is a hare.

JR is best known as the puppeteer behind Poink T. Ferret on the Funday PawPet Show. He also did a character named Bambi Voop, longtime bimbo for Poink, whose tenure on the show ended when Poink finally sold her on Ebay. Recently, JR introduced a new character to the show, Hugh Manatee. On the show, he provides Poink's usual blend of audacious and sometimes perverse insight, as well as appearing as himself in numerous bits on the show.

JR is also an aspiring standup comedian, and he opened for 2 the Ranting Gryphon at Anthrocon 2007.

JR maintains a LiveJournal as his alter-ego, Poink, and it's normally a place for him to post silliness, with the occasional RL situation thrown in. Also, JR has been involved in operations for Megaplex since the convention's inception, originally handling both advertising and the charity auction, aside from performing and general hands-on assistance at the convention itself. Currently, he has accepted the role as Programming Director for Megaplex.

JR also records 3 to 5 minute segments as his ferret alter-ego that he uploads on a weekly basis, called the Poinkcast, a podcast located at this RSS feed or as downloadable mp3s, available at this site. They are more mature in nature than his work on the Funday PawPet Show, and contain some strong language and a stronger lean towards dark comedy. Also, the Poinkcast is a segment on the 2 Sense show since February 2008.

Atomic Clam:

Hughbert Nicolas Manatee, or Hugh Manatee is a new supporting character on the Funday PawPet Show. ]]
He is voiced by Jackrabbit, more commonly referred to as JR, the puppeteer of the show's resident ferret, Poink T. Ferret. Hugh is known for his squeaky voice, naive demeanor and infatuation with Fudgy the Whale. It is unknown if Hugh is a child or an old man, but statements from the sea cow such as "pulled a hammy" and "dropped my coinpurse" seem to indicate the latter.

By his own admission, if you view Hugh from the back, he looks like half a buttcheek. On one show, Hugh appeared with a boat propeller lodged in his head. Hugh is one of the few puppets in use on the show that was not made by Folkmanis.

Atomic Clam:

Jackrabbit (often abbreviated to JR; born October 15th, 1968) is a furry who lives in Orlando, Florida, United States. His real name is Dan Boatright. His fursona is a hare.

]]

Jackrabbit is best known as the puppeteer behind Poink T. Ferret on the Funday PawPet Show. He also did a character named Bambi Voop, longtime bimbo for Poink, whose tenure on the show ended when Poink finally sold her on Ebay. Recently, JR introduced a new character to the show, Hugh Manatee. On the show he provides Poink's usual blend of audacious and sometimes perverse insight, as well as appearing as himself in numerous bits on the show.

JR is also an aspiring standup comedian, and he opened for 2 the Ranting Gryphon at Anthrocon 2007. He has been invited to open for 2 again at Anthrocon 2008.

JR maintains a live journal as his alter-ego, Poink, and it's normally a place for him to post silliness, with the occasional RL situation thrown in. Also, JR has been involved in operations for Megaplex since the convention's inception, originally handling both advertising and the charity auction, aside from performing and general hands-on assistance at the convention itself. Currently, he still handles the charity auction and performs and assists at Megaplex on site, but has relinquished his other duties to concentrate on writing and performing standup.

Hugh Manatee

Atomic Clam:

Hughbert Nicolas Manatee, or Hugh Manatee is a new supporting character on the Funday PawPet Show.

Poink T. Ferret

Poink T. Ferret is the pseudonym of a regular cast member on the Funday PawPet Show and is personified by a ferret pawpet with a free-spirited (and often unmoderated) will. Often crude, somewhat rude, and often humorous in his antics, Poink is the ferret you love to hate, hate to love, or any mixture of the two. The cast and crew of the Funday Pawpet Show have learned not to take Poink seriously, as well as to watch what they say when he's around, as Poink is a master of taking an innocent comment and putting an un-innocent spin on it. Poink is puppeted and voiced by Jackrabbit, or JR as he's more commonly known.

Poink can typically be identified on the show in the lower right quadrant of the broadcast screen, and is brown and light brown in coloration. Poink's puppeteer has modified the ferret's eyes with LED lights to give Poink's eyes a bright red glow in the right circumstances. Poink has also been recently modified to have a pair of large, ping-pong-ball like eyes.Poink's first appearence with the LED modifications took place after the show interviewed Doug Bradley, the actor that portrays "Pinhead" in the Hellraiser movies. While Poink interviewed him, Mr Bradley stuffed the ferret into a Hellraiser "cube." When the cube was opened on the show, Poink popped out with the bright demon red eyes.

During the long and continuing history of the Funday Pawpet Show, Poink has been through quite a bit of torture. He's been shaved, blown to bits, and other manners of ferret humiliation. There have been a number of puppets modified for use as Poink before the puppet was discontinued, including 2 that were spinoffs of characters from the BBC television show "Doctor Who." When the puppet becomes worn out to the point that a replacement is necessary, or specially designed for a certain look such as the Doctor Who models, JR normally donates them to charity auctions at various cons, although the last one he sold on Ebay earlier this year.

Poink was actually named after the puppeteer's real-life ferret, who was named for his habit of hopping, or as JR terms it, "Poinking" around the house.

Poink version 2.4 was put up for auction on 24
June 2007.
