The Forest

Angela: remove "the the"

[[Image:SecondLifeForestDeluxeApartments.png|right|thumb|200px|Treehouse apartments in The Forest]][[Image:SecondLifeForestSwings.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Hanging out at the sandbox swings]]
'''The Forest''' is an [[island (Second Life)|island simulation]] in [[Second Life]]. While under the ownership of [[Wikipedia:Anshe Chung|Anshe Chung]], it was operated until late May 2006 by members of the Second Life furry community (these members have now moved to [[Serenity Woods]]). The adjoining furry-only residential islands of '''Tiger Creek''', '''Bunny Bay''', '''Turtle Reef''' and the '''Coyote Islands''' are considered part of The Forest region, and their [[Wikipedia:Land Value Tax|land tier]] and rental income go towards the upkeep of the main island.

Items of interest included an art gallery, a set of apartments, and the mostly-underground Forest Store, with material separated into PG, Teen and Mature levels. A pub (possibly entitled the ''Fox & Feather'', although this may be the name of a previous pub) was recently built, but just as recently destroyed in the action that triggered the change of administration - ironically, it was one of the few buildings standing afterwards. The sim's nightclub, Club Essence, was also under renovation at the time of the disruption.

== Staff and membership (2005-May 2006) ==

The Forest was a Second Life group. Its officers, known as Forest Guides (apart from Anshe Chung), included:

* [[Eirinn Overdrive]]
* [[Ron Overdrive]] (Events Manager)
* [[Walter Faddoul]]
* [[Yiffy Yaffle]] (Head of Security, Art Museum Manager)

== History ==

The Forest was created on 12 January 2005 by [[Spade Richelieu]]. In April 2005 Spade sold it to Anshe Chung, a well-known Second Life land baron, and it became part of their collection of connected island simulations, Dreamland.

Shortly after The Forest passed into Anshe Chung's possesion it was mysteriously erased. The only surviving artifact from it's previous era was half of the Fox & Feather pub. This led to a spontaneous spasm of rebuilding in which The Forest was reinvented as a woodland-themed furry sim.

Many people, both furs and humans, took part in the rebuilding. Major contributors were [[Thili Playfair]], [[Miles05 Reitveld]], [[Fargo Divine]], [[Alazarin Mondrian]] as well as [[Chad Statosky]] who managed to recover and rebuild the store on his own. Countless others joined in and helped to redefine The Forest, with the giant tree, Yggdrasil, dominating the skyline.

Over time, further additions and refinements were added such as the treehouse apartments and the Sky Village with a runway to accomodate pilots who sought to fly the skies of Second Life. The Forest Store was later rebuilt by [[Obsidian Stormwind]] and managed by [[DeForest Shatner]] who turned it around into a revenue-earning venture for The Forest before passing it on to the current Forest administration.

[[Club Fur]] used to be located in The Forest. Shortly after ownership passed to Anshe, the club moved to [[FurNation Worlds]]. Club Essence was created in its place, but disappeared in early 2006 in "unfortunate circumstances".

The Art Gallery was opened in September 2005.

On March 7th 2006, The Forest was relocated one block north of its old location on the Second Life map, and its original location was replaced by Bunny Bay. The addition was made due to the virtually complete occupation of Tiger Creek, and, according to [[Wikipedia:Anshe Chung|Anshe Chung]], to reduce lag for residents on its northern border.

In mid-April, a new island appeared to the north of The Forest, entitled Panther Crossing. As of 21 April the purpose and form of the land is not yet clear. In late May, the Coyote Islands appeared to the west of The Forest.

== Controversy ==
[[Image:TheForestQuarterDestroyed.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Dispossessed forest renter]]
[[Image:TheForestBraveNewStore.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Brave New Store (temporary)]]
[[Image:SecondLifeForestStrippedBare.png|right|thumb|200px|The Forest (early June 2006)]]

A crisis arose at the end of May when Anshe demanded 1/4 of the area of The Forest be rezoned for commercial development. Anshe claims two months' notice was given, while the Forest Guides claim two weeks. Either way, when the deadline expired without a choice, Anshe wiped the southeastern 1/4 of the island clean<ref>[http://community.livejournal.com/sl_furs/8078.html ''The Forest Today''] - post in Second Life Furs LiveJournal community</ref>, including The Fox & Feather tavern and several residential and rental properties. The land was lightly re-forested and occupied by the familiar "<font style="red">ANSHE</font>CHUNG.COM" buttons.

Protest was swift, in the form of large black banners and buttons from Alazarin Mondrian reading "<font style="red">BANS</font>HEE DUNG: You know she dont give a shit" (sic). In the early hours of 29 May, most of the content of the sim was returned to its owners, and then a previous version of it was restored. Much material in the sim was owned by its designer, Yiffy Yaffle, who promptly removed it, rendering around 80% of the sim bare of trees, housing and decoration, including the Forest Store.

The Forest Guides made offers of alternatives to the commercial activities section, but claimed that they were not responded to, nor were to the previous attempts at communication regarding management of the sim. Anshe ultimately removed power from the Guides when it became clear that they were opposed to implementing her policies, and the Guides removed their content in response. Rebuilding was undertaken later that day by the Dreamland administration, starting with a temporary version of the store. Many of those who left went to [[Fox Valley|Wolf Valley]]. Plans to create a separate sim were voiced by former Guides, and a petition<ref>[http://www.petitiononline.com/FFInvest/petition.html Forest Furries Investigation] - petition to Linden Labs regarding Anshe's actions</ref> for investigation was created.

As of May 30th 2006, the officers' title of "Forest Guides" has been changed to "Dreamland Angels", a generic officer title used on all of Anshe's controlled properties (regardless of the sim's theme). At the same time, Anshe created a new sim group (''Forest Friends'') when her attempt to delete the sim's original group (''Forest Fans and Friends'') failed. The argument used to try to convince the Lindens to terminate this group was the allegation of [[Wikipedia:griefing|griefing]] attacks within it against her persona.

The Forest remained very bare at the start of June. Meanwhile, the former Guides moved to a new sim, [[Serenity Woods]], created less than a week after their departure. The Forest has since been rebuilt, but it remains significantly less busy than Serenity Woods (Traffic: 690 vs. 6565 as of 1 November 2006).

== Rating ==
[[Image:TheForestOctober2006.jpg|right|thumb|230px|The Forest (October 2006)]]
While technically a Mature-rated sim, those who wish to [[role-play]] sexual situations are asked to take it to the basement of Club Essence, or a private treehouse. Of course, many residents are completely nude all the time, but that's not really a problem when you have so much fur. Violence is not permitted in The Forest except by pre-arrangement.

WikiFur:Promotion

2007-02-17T23:20:26Z

Angela: update since Popularpages has gone

:''This page is about non-monetary promotion of WikiFur. There is also a page on [[WikiFur:Advertising|paid advertising]].''

We all know that [[WikiFur]] is great, but if we want it to get even greater we need to continue to get new people involved with the site. Put simply, if they don't know about WikiFur or why they should visit and contribute, they won't. This leads to the dreaded p-word . . . '''[[Wikicities:Promotion|promotion]]'''!

== Objectives ==

Specifically, our objectives should be to get people to:

* Link to WikiFur from their websites
* Link to WikiFur articles on pages about relevant topics
* Talk about and link to WikiFur on forums, perhaps including it in their signatures
* Promote the idea that WikiFur is "the" place to come for information about the furry fandom, at least as a starting point

All of these things can be done by you right now, so get cracking. ;-)

Really, though, we need to encourage others to follow our example. To get people to do this, we need to give them an excuse to talk about WikiFur, and give them material to use when they do.

== Methods ==

=== Writing and featuring good articles ===

Probably most people are impressed by quality articles that are fun to read, yet also informative, and which present their topics in an unbiased tone. This is where [[WikiFur:Featured articles|featured articles]] come in. Identification and promotion of the best of WikiFur sets the standard for other articles.

Of course, it's important to actually come on here and create and improve such articles, too! People won't stick around a site where there's no content, and search engines don't think too highly of stubs, either. Fortunately we seem to have made a good start there. :-)

=== Statistics ===

Another important part of promotion is the use of figures to demonstrate WikiFur's growth. A some people are impressed by size, and "WikiFur has X hundred thousand words" tends to make these people think it must be a worthwhile project. Here are some pages that can help:

* [[WikiFur:About#Statistics|WikiFur:About, statistics section]]
* [[WikiFur:Stats in comparison]]
* [[WikiFur:Statistics Record]]

=== Linking to external sites ===

Ironically, one of the best way to get sites to link to us is to link to ''them'', where appropriate. Most serious webmasters have referral logs and view them at least semi-regularly. If they notice WikiFur sending visitors their way, they are likely to come looking. This is also a great way to gain contributors who know a lot about furry topics!

== Ideas ==

=== WikiFur Digest (tentative name) ===

The most important thing to do is to get people interested enough to click a link to WikiFur. To do this we should give them highly interesting tidbits and lots and lots of links for them to click through to find out more. People '''do''' click those links - When [[Special:Popularpages]] was working, it had those pages linked to from elsewhere right at the top.

I have personally had very good results by posting a semi-regular progress report in the form of a digest - see ''[http://gamewaredevelopment.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=29037&page=1&pp=15 From the Creatures Wiki]''. I think this could work well for WikiFur, too.

{{details|WikiFur:WikiFur Digest}}

=== 2000th article celebrations ===

I think we should try and do as much as possible for this, if possible. We've been quiet for a while now (probably too long), so we should have a lot to say. Plans include a redesign of the front page and community portal, and [[WikiFur:Vote on the new Community Portal name|renaming]] of the latter.

This article seems neutral enough to me. It states facts, not opinions, and--given the nature of the source material--there's no way said facts can be cited.

I have personally verified the accounts documented here with the creators/administrators of [[LylatRPG]] who have kindly provided me with logs of the events detailed here and elsewhere.

At the very least, it should be stated that [[Kala McCloud]] is not affiliated with LylatRPG, and that any claim she places on the intellectual property of others is absolutely false. {{unsigned|142.104.250.115}}

:The problem I have with the article (and why I marked it as POV) is mainly the sentence ''In retaliation, she quit the game only to return as a player and has since been trying to wrest control from the development team.'' If that were removed or a citation were provided, I'd be a lot happier about the overall tone of the article. --[[User:Dmuth|Douglas Muth]] 21:01, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

:Oh, now that I think of it, one way to provide a citation would be if you placed the logs that you had on the web somewhere, perhaps with a page that summarizes their contents. We could add that page in as a reference, and I think that would be sufficient for the article. --[[User:Dmuth|Douglas Muth]] 21:02, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

:I've gone ahead and meddled with the article to remove certain phrases that may bring its neutrality into dispute. If the LylatRPG administrators wish to make the logs public domain and cite them, I've told them that they are free to do so, though, after speaking with them, I doubt they're all that interested in airing dirty laundry. {{unsigned|142.104.250.115}}

'''Twig Mouse''' of [[Big Mouse Productions]] spent a short time taking [[fursuit]] [[commission]]s. The creator of the Flying Squirrel fursuit "[[Chitter]]", which won Journeyman Class and the Peer award at [[Further Confusion]] 2003's masquerade, he also made [[Sage]]'s Deer suit, [[Nashiri]]'s Mountain goat suit, and [[Orzel]]'s Scrub Jay suit. A [[raccoon]] head was also made and sold at [[Further Confusion]] 2004. His own fursuits include Chitter (Flying Squirrel), Mir (Meerkat), and Frenzy (Ferret).

Twig strives for correct proportion in the head design of his fursuits. In order to have realistic eye placement, he utilizes a system of mirrors for vision through the eyes, while allowing them to be placed further apart. Both Chitter and Sage's deer suit use this method.

The Deer Mouse is more of a [[Totem]] animal to Twig than a [[character]].

Furcadia

2006-03-18T06:01:02Z

Angela: /* See also */ * The Furcadia Wikicity

[[Image:Furcadia.png|right|Furcadia]]
'''Furcadia''' (also known as '''Furc''') is a furry graphical multiplayer online community developed by [[Felorin]] (Dr. Cat) and [[Talzhemir]] ('Manda), with contributions from [http://www.furcadia.com/credits.html many others]. Furcadia has been running since 1996, and is probably the largest online furry community, with over 60,000 registered users and 3,000 - 4,300 online users active at any given time.

* '''Address''': http://www.furcadia.com/

== Overview ==
<div style="float:right">__TOC__</div>
Furcadia is free to all users. To join Furcadia, the [http://www.furcadia.com/download/ Windows client] can be downloaded and installed. This client connects to the furcadia server, allows for character creation, and provides a graphical environment where a [[furre]] (Furcadia character) can explore [[Dream (Furcadia)|dreams]] (player-made areas) and interact with others.

When one first joins Furcadia, one first creates a character. This involves selecting a name, entering in a contact e-mail address to activate an account, selecting a species, selecting one's colours and writing a personal description that is visible to other furres.

The following species can be selected during the character creation process: [[Rodent]], [[Equine]], [[Feline]], [[Canine]], [[Musteline]], [[Lapine]] and [[Squirrel]]. It is also commonplace to use one of these base types to create a specialized species: for example, choosing the colouring on a squirrel to make it look like a skunk. The next update of Furcadia will introduce two new species, [[Bovines]] and [[Bears]].

In addition to the basic species, furres can purchase various add-ons for their character using real-world money. These include four types of wings (Classic Wings, Tri-colour Wings, Butterfly wings and Bat Wings), various alternate species ([[Dragon]], [[Phoenix]] and [[Gryphon]]), flight and fire-breathing effects. All purchases help support the operation and improvements of Furcadia.

Real money is not required to join or use the service, only to add these character features. This business model has been criticised by some for breaking down the isolation between character and player, as those with real money available can use it to improve their in-game status. Dispite this minor critisism, the approach has been quite successful and built up a sizable and mostly satisfied community of players.

== Furcadia Client ==
[[Image:Furcadia_client_jujinka.png|thumbnail|250px|right|Furcadia in action]]

The Furcadia Client is organized into four main areas:
* The upper left section displays the portrait and name of another furcadia within the dream.
* The lower left section contains five tabs that allow the furre to move about and interact with the world around them.
* The upper right section shows the dream that the furre is currently in, including other furres that are nearby.
* The lower right section contains a text window, used to talk with other furres visible above, and to whisper (private message) other furres that are currently logged in.

The Furcadia Client runs on Windows 95 through XP. A Macintosh client has often been requested, but is considered a lower priority development.

=== Third Party Applications ===

Many third-party applications have been written to complement and enhance the Furcadia Client. These applications include:
* Proxies, which sit between the Furcadia Client and the Server and provide additional capabilities. Examples include [[Furnarchy]], [[DogProxy]] and [[Mreow! Proxy]].
* Bots, which allow characters to be controlled by a computer program. Examples include [[FurBot]].
* Editors, which allow the editing of [[Patches]], [[DragonSpeak]] and Dream maps. Examples include [[Dreamer]].

== Community ==
There are nine main dreams within Furcadia:

* '''Vinca''' is the nexus of Furcadia, allowing access to all of the other main dreams.
* '''Naia Green''' is the central community map, where furres can get assistance, take classes and meet other furres.
* '''Haven''' (Previously [[New Haven]]) is a friendly map for old and new friends to meet and talk.
* '''Challenges''' contains many single and multi-furre games, including chess and checkers.
* '''Acropolis''' is a socializing area where furres can load their own dreams.
* '''Meovanni Village''' is a free-form "persona play"role playing map.
* '''Imaginarium''' is a place where furres can load strict roleplay-oriented dreams.
* '''Allegria Island''' is a socializing area where furres can load their own dreams.
* '''Furrabian Nights''' ([[Furn]]) is a dream for adult role-play.

== Role-playing ==

Many different [[role-playing]] communities exist within Furcadia. As furres can create their own dreams, continuties range from Pirates on the High Seas, to Furres in Spaceships, to Elizabethan Gardens, to Medieval to Fantasy.

The official continuity of Furadia is known as Furre!, and was created by [[Talzhemir]], and is set in the world of [[Kasuria]]. It has a rich history and mythology.

== Dreams ==

Furcadia comes with tools allowing a furre to create their own worlds. This includes '''DreamEd''' for laying out objects, floors and walls, '''DSEditor''' for writing [[DragonSpeak]] code to add interactivity, and '''fsheditor''' to draw new objects, floors, walls and portraits.

== Upcoming Update ==

At the last town hall meeting, held on 2005-04-16, [[Felorin]] indicated that to bring new innovations and improvements to the Furcadia community sooner, [[Dragon's Eye Productions]] is moving over to a system where updates are released on a quarterly basis.

"Instead of waiting till all of a particular set of features and bugfixes are done, we're just going to work on stuff, and when update time comes we'll say "What's done and ready to put in", and release that. This should get you new things to enjoy more often - and make it easier to test each one for bugs, as there won't be as many changes to test at once. We hope you'll enjoy our new update schedule. #SA" -- [[Felorin]]

However, this quarterly system does not seem to have been implemented yet in the manner indicated.

=== Announced Improvements ===

* '''New Avatars''': Bears, Bovines and Kitterwings
* '''Client Improvements''': Buddy Lists, Truetype Fonts, Text Colours, Chat Windows, 24-Bit Color
* '''Dream Improvements''': Dream Banishing, new [[DragonSpeak]]

== Volunteer Community ==

Furcadia has a large and active volunteer community, known as the [[Beekins]]. There are many types of Beekins:

* Bugge Hunters provide technical support and track down bugs
* Dream Masons provide assistance with creating dreams and writing [[DragonSpeak]]
* Guardians enforce rules within Furcadia. Their roles are similar to that of Wizards in other online MUDs/MUCKs
* Helpers provide general assistance, in person and via a help channel
* Pixels provide help with drawing and creating patches
* Scribes maintain the Furcadia web site and moderate the Furcadia Forums
* Welcomers welcome new furres, provide orientation tours and answer questions
* Mentors provide assistance and guidance for furres in the Beekin program
* Teachers provide classes for furres in the Beekins program

Stuffed toy

2006-02-23T05:05:17Z

Angela: links

A '''plush toy''' or '''plushie''' is a soft, often furry, stuffed toy made of [[wikipedia:plush|plush]]. They are usually made in the shape of something cute, usually an [[animal]] of some sort, though sometimes a human. [[Anime]], cartoon, or [[manga]] characters are popular subjects. A [[teddy bear]] may be regarded as a type of plush toy, though this is not true of all teddy bears, as some are not made of plush.

A person who has a [[paraphilia]] for plush toys may be called a [[plushophile]].

Kemono

2006-02-23T05:03:37Z

Angela: links

'''Kemono''' ([[Wikipedia:Japanese language|Japanese]] 獣 or けもの "beast") is a genre of [[Wikipedia:Japan|Japanese]] art and character design that prominently features animal-like fictional characters in human-like settings and situations. It is used widely in drawing, painting, [[manga]], [[anime]], and video game designs, many of which are popular in the rest of the world.

Human-like animal characters in the kemono genre are frequently called '''Jūjin''' ([[Wikipedia:Japanese language|Japanese]] 獣人 or じゅうじん "[[Wikipedia:therianthrope|therianthrope]]"; alternatively, these characters are also sometimes read as ''kemonobito'' "beast-human"). Their unique design differs from artist to artist, but in general they combine popular character design with animal traits deemed cute and endearing. However, most kemono character designs retain a fundamentally human character and personality, seldom acting like the real animals after which they are designed. As such, kemono are usually shown living the way normal humans live in the same setting: speaking normal language, wearing normal clothes, eating normal food, living in normal homes, in ways that blur their distinction from ordinary humans.

Though based on very different cultural ideals, kemono and [[furry fandom]] on the Internet can occasionally overlap, both geographically and in influence. Some kemono artists appeal to both at the same time. Due to similarity in subject matter, people interested in kemono art are also frequently interested in furry art (and vice versa).

I am reverting this page back to the previous version. I see that the last edits, including the excluded template came from 24.16.158.137, which resolves to a Comcast customer in Washington. I know for a fact that Tigerwolf lives in Ohio and runs his own ISP, tigerden.com. That makes it unlikely that he'd be using another ISP from another part of the country. I also know that the Tigerwolf Who Isn't Tigerwolf (http://www.livejournal.com/users/unclekage/2478.html) lives (or used to live) in Washington state. Together, these two things make me question the legitimacy of the edits from 24.16.158.137.

On a related note, for the benefit of the admins, Tigerwolf's email address is tigerwolf@tigerden.com. He does NOT use IM or ICQ, nor does he have a LiveJournal. The only MUCKs he is on are FurryMUCK and TigerMUCK. Anyone who receives communication from someone else claiming to be him not using one of the above methods should treat such communication with skepticism. --Dmuth

Help:Contents

2005-08-16T02:04:55Z

Angela:

To learn how to use MediaWiki, the software that this wiki uses, go to [[MetaWikipedia:Help:Contents|the MediaWiki Users' Handbook]] or see the [[Wikicities:Help:Tutorial|Wikicities tutorial]].

Here are some quick tips:

* '''To experiment with editing, go to the [[Project:Sandbox|sandbox]].''' Open that in another window so you can still see this!
* ''You'' can edit any page by clicking the '''edit''' tab at the top - do this if you think it could do with more information, or if there's an error in the page. You can also see how the wiki features work by editing existing pages - just make sure you don't save without meaning to!
* Anywhere you see a <font color="red">red link</font>, you can '''create a new page'''. You can also just type the name of an page into the URL box after the /index.php/ or /wiki/ bit, or create a link to that page in the sandbox and then click it. Why not start with a [[Special:Wantedpages|wanted page]] or [[Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:stub|stub]]?
* To '''link to a page''' (even if it doesn't exist yet), write it like this: <nowiki>[[article name]]</nowiki>. It is case-sensitive except for the first letter.
* To '''redirect one page to another''' (useful for different spelling or capitalization), write this: <nowiki>#REDIRECT [[Other Page]]</nowiki>
* Write plurals like this unless the article title is plural: <nowiki>[[Agent]]s</nowiki>.
* To display different text for a link, write this: <nowiki>[[article name|description]]</nowiki>.
* You can use '''images''' as well, but you need to [[Special:Userlogin|log in]] and [[Special:Upload|upload the file]] first. Add an image with <nowiki>[[Image:imagename.png|left or right or none|frame or thumb (if you want a frame or thumbnail - if not, leave this out)|Description]]</nowiki>. Examples:
**<nowiki>[[Image:Wiki.png|left|frame|This is the [[WikiFur]] logo!]]</nowiki>
**<nowiki>[[Image:Testimage.png|right|This text only shows up when you hover over the image]]</nowiki>
* To put a page into a '''[[Special:Categories|category]]''', write this anywhere in it: <nowiki>[[Category:Whatever]]</nowiki>
**If you do this to a page with a title like Category:Something, it makes that page a subcategory of the category you wrote.
**To ''link'' to a category page, use <nowiki>[[:Category:Whatever|whatever category]]</nowiki>.
* If you make a change and don't like it, click the history tab and click the date of the previous version, then hit edit and save that version.
* If you need to sign your name, use <nowiki>~~~</nowiki>, or <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> to include the date too. You shouldn't normally do this unless talking to someone on a talk page or making a personal note outside the normal flow of the article - wherever you can't avoid saying "I" ;-)
* Please remember to '''click Preview before saving'''. Check all your links!
* Don't forget, every signed in user gets a User Page! If you're signed in, you can also take advantage of your [[Special:Watchlist|Watchlist]] to keep track of updates on your favorite articles.
* ''Got a helpful hint? Add it in above this line!''
If you need to talk to someone, put a question on the user talk pages of one of the [[Project:Administrators|Administrators]].

Something Awful

2005-08-16T01:05:14Z

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by Kelly Martin

'''Something Awful''' is an internet humor community owned and operated by [[Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka]]. Among its users are stereotypical forum members with a slightly higher sense of collective intelligence and pretentiousness than the average forum grouping. (For example, "GameFaqs.") It ranges from adults to teens, talented artists to talented writers, and also very avid gamers. However, among these users also lurks a minority dark-side which has gotten the website its reputation in the furry fandom. Constant harassment and ridicule toward the furry community, including [[trolling]]-- sometimes organized-- and harassment toward users themselves in places such as [[LiveJournal]], messageboards, and various furry websites, including [[Wikifur]] itself, which was vandalized on various pages with defamation toward the furry fandom or repeitions of the phrase "SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM." While the administrators of the [[Something Awful|SA]] forums do not condone the actions taken-- and do take action to remove these troublemakers from their ranks when they deem necessary-- many [[Goons]] take it upon themselves to invade websites, forums and [[LiveJournal|LiveJournals]] when they are linked on or off the forums. (Examples of off-forums organized invasions includes the now defunct [[SALJ]].) There are three instances where [[Goons]] "infiltrated" a furry convention.

To many on the Something Awful forums now, however, furries are considered "old meme." But there are still members who continue to "hop on the bandwagon" and attack the fandom.

== Involvement with Furries ==
=== Conventions ===
==== Texas Furry Con 2004 ====
A newer SA forum user started a post detailing her first visit to a furry convention then decided it wasn't for her. She left a picture of a detailed pineapple hand-grenade which stated, "WE ARE WATCHING." [[Image:Sawarning.jpg|right|thumb|The SA grenade picture]]

Later, SA member Vorpal Bunny, a resident of Texas, decided to pay the convention a visit, wearing a shirt that said "L33T LIEK JEFFK" and had a URL to the website. After being tipped off by furry and SA goon Labinnah, the con staff proceeded to catch and detain Vorpal Bunny and his pack of friends, forcing them to stay until they signed a form which stated they would not release anything to the Internet. This, of course, didn't happen.

An account in his own words of Vorpal Bunny's visit can be found online [http://www.viewfromuphere.com/writings/000122.php here].

==== [[Feral!]] 2004 ====
A forum user posted about his "ninja infiltration" to a furry convention out in the woods. Sneaking around the camp area, he placed numerous paper flags with the [[Something Awful]] logo on various cars. In the thread he posted, he was ridiculed by the [[Something Awful|SA]] [[Goons]] for supposedly "having no life."

==== [[Anthrocon]] 2005 ====
A furry goon named [[Mix]] decided to bring an old 1960's-style video camera with him labelled with a bumper sticker that read "LOL INTERNET." He wore a t-shirt with his [[fursona]] on the front-- a blue hyenataur-- and on the back a blown-up version of the Something Awful logo. He was pulled aside by [[Uncle Kage]] and told not to wear his t-shirt around the convention space.

=== LiveJournal ===
==== SALJ ====
[[SALJ]], or "[[Something Awful]] [[LiveJournal]]", was a [[LiveJournal]] community which trolled pretty much all of LiveJournal. From autoerotic asphyxiation communities to zoophile communities, they attacked them all. While not the main focus, one thing they did attack were other furry communities.

=== IRC ===
In late 2004, when the [[SALJ]] [[LiveJournal]] community was still around, many users of the community congregated in an IRC channel. They organized an attack on a channel on FurNet called #dragon_yiff. What happened was enormous amounts of spam with constant barrages of various catchphrases from the [[Something Awful]] forums, such as the ever infamous "SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM." The users, however, when everything calmed down, blamed it on [[Sibe]].

=== Awful Link of the Day ===
[[Something Awful]] has a feature on their front page called ''The Awful Link of the Day.'' The websites featured range between horrendously created Tripod websites or the most bizarre of the bizarre forums on the Internet, and sometimes a random furry fetish artist's website or community, such as [[vore]] or [[babyfur]], will pop up as the target.

On August 15, 2005, [[WikiFur]] was featured as an Awful Link of the Day.

== Furry involvement with Something Awful ==
=== The "Furry Concentration Camp" ===
In January 2003, [[JJcoolJ]], a now ex-forum member and somewhat excommunicated from the furry community, organized users from the now defunct #safurs channel on FurNet to spam an internal forum called "FYAD," or "Fuck You and Die" with furry porn. [[Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka|Lowtax]], after getting rather annoyed with having the obtuse-humored subforum filled with even more horrendous furry spam, created the Furry Concentration Camp, a subforum which acted much like "FYAD," but disconnected furries from the main forum. The furries who spammed-- and many others who didn't, but were labelled anyway for humorous effect, such as user Procrasturbator-- were placed in this subforum because they were incredibly annoying. It also proved to be a place where members of FYAD could come in and ridicule other furries for their own humor. However, after a few months, the furry goons took the forum for themselves and turned it into their own "Furry FYAD." In mid-summer, to save CPU cycles, [[Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka|Lowtax]] deleted the forum.

=== Furry "[[Goons]]" ===
A "furry goon" is someone who may or may not be accepted on the [[Something Awful|SA]] forums while also knowingly being a member of the furry community. Some of these users are:
* [[Verix]]
* [[Doodles]]
* [[Mix]]
* [[Necco]]
* [[Reddie]]
* [[Malkith0]]

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by Angela

'''Conventions''' are places where members of the [[furry fandom]] tend to congregate, typically on an annual basis. Most furry conventions take place in the U.S., with a few in Europe, as this is where the majority of furry fans are.

Conventions vary, but typically one might expect to find several of the following:
* Some form of ''accommodation'' (which may or may not be included in the convention fee)
* A ''dealer's den/art hall/gallery'' where [[:Category:Artists|artists]] display and sell their work
* Tutorials and workshops for those interested in [[:Category:Arts and crafts|arts and crafts]]
* Special events, such as a ''[[fursuit]] parade'' or a ''charity auction''

Although it is not usually billed as one of the attractions, conventions are also a great way to get to know other members of the community, for varying levels of "get to know". Don't forget to take the [http://www.tigerden.com/infopage/furry/con-tips.txt essentials]!

WikiFur:Logo ideas

2005-08-16T01:03:57Z

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by MelSkunk

[[WikiFur]] needs a '''logo'''. It should be 135x155 pixels (or potentially a little shorter), and it should try to communicate both "wiki" and "furry" in some way, potentially including part or all of the name "WikiFur".

Have a look at some of the [[Wikicities:Image:Logocollection.png|existing logos]] for some good (and bad) examples. As you can see, simpler is potentially better - any text should at least be discernable at 1/3 size.

To submit an image, you need to [[Special:Userlogin|login]], then [[Special:Upload|upload your image]] and add your submissions here by editing the page to add <nowiki>[[Image:YourImageName.png]]</nowiki>. 24-bit PNG is the preferred format - if it needs to be smaller, it can be reduced later.

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by Wesha

The reading and writing of '''comics''' is a popular pastime for most members of the furry [[:Category:Community|community]]. Here are a few of those comics particularly appreciated by furries (whether or not this was intentional).

'''Scroll down for existing comic pages.'''

== Comics to add ==

If you can think of a comic that deserves writing about, add it in here, and maybe someone will. Don't let that stop '''you''' writing about a comic, including your own!

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by Angela

The rise of the web is probably the most important factor in the [[history]] of the [[furry fandom]]. Here you can find all significant community '''websites''' - or at least all the ones people have bothered to write about!

'''Note:''' Sometimes it seems like every furry out their has their own website, and that might not be that far from the truth. ''Personal'' websites are probably best kept to pages about a [[:Category:People|person]], unless they are of wider interest.

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by Wesha

'''Triggur''' ('''Kevin Kelm''') is a horse who claims to be "mostly an asshole". He can usually be found on [[FurryMUCK]] (where he was once Mayor), if you wish to test this assertion.

West Corner Of the Park (comic)

2005-08-16T01:03:36Z

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by Markus

'''''West Corner of the Park''''' (or '''WCotP''') is a comic based around the denizens of [[FurryMUCK]], although often comments on issues of interest to the wider [[:Category:Community|furry community]]. It is drawn by [[Jim Groat]], and coloured (since July 2003) by [[Cuprohastes]].

*'''Address''': http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/wcotp.cgi
*'''Ran from/to''': 1 July 1997 - current

The name of the strip is derived from FurryMUCK - the ''real'' West Corner of the Park is the centre of the FurryMUCK universe, being the place where new characters emerge from (under the bandstand), and is generally the focal point of much of the MUCK's activity.

Running gags at WCotP include:

* [[Flinthoof]]'s addiction to [[Wikipedia:Altoids|Altoids]] (a type of mint)
* The [[yiff]]iness of vixens, and the foxes (typically, new players) that desire them
* Bunnies (particularly the Easter bunny) and [http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/wcotp.cgi?date=20040314 their] [http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/wcotp.cgi?date=20050327 edibility]

Uncle Kage

Angela: Reverted edit of Gooses, changed back to last version by 24.16.22.43

[[Image:Unclekage.jpg|thumb|right|Uncle Kage leading an auction at [[MFF]] in 2004]]
'''Uncle Kage''' [ka-''ge''] (or '''Kagemushi''', '''Dr. Samuel Conway''') is one of the furry community's most trusted and honoured members. He is Chairman of [[Anthrocon]], and regularly attends many other furry [[:Category:Conventions|conventions]]. He is currently employed by Cerexagri, an agrichemical company.

Uncle Kage is well known for his [[:Category:Stories|stories]], often based on everyday experiences - ''Uncle Kage's Story Hour'' is a popular addition to the schedule whenever he is present at an event. He also manages to make charity auctions fun, to the detriment of the wallets of many con-goers.

Rumours of Uncle Kage's love of certain Japanese distilled spirits are grossly exaggerated, except in those cases where people have photos. Or, in one case, a video recording.

He also has been known to play a macro wolf character, named [[Rogue]].

'''Did you know?''' Uncle Kage's name is actually an abbreviation of ''Kagemushi Goro'', or the ''Samurai Cockroach'', his selected persona (''kage mushi'' is Japanese for ''shadow bug''). More information is available [http://www.unclekage.com/cockroach.html from his website].
