'''''What's Yiffin'?''''' was a monthly satirical furry-centric news program self-described as "''The Daily Show'' for the furry fandom". It began as a one-off joke sketch on the livestreaming channel Gatorbox. In each edition of the show Kon reviewed the previous month's "top stories" in the fandom.

In February 2017, ''What's Yiffin'?'' was syndicated with [[Dogpatch Press]] and featured a short companion article to compliment the content in the video and provide additional sources. At the end of 2017 show writers Kon and Maestro mutually agreed to put ''What's Yiffin'?'' on hold indefinitely. The reason given was the increasingly political atmosphere of the fandom and the correlating difficulty in finding nonpartisan stories to cover.

'''Herpy: Reptile Lovers' Community''' (formerly known as '''Herpy Image Archive''' from 2005 - 2012) is a mature art aggregator and interactive community for artists, writers, and fans of everything [[herpetophile|herpetophilia]], and [[xenophilia]] including ornithophilia. The website is commonly known as '''Herpy''' among members. The website was [[Something Awful|Something Awful's]] "Awful Link of the Day" on December 15, 2010.<ref>''[http://www.somethingawful.com/awful-links/herpy-reptile-lover/ SomethingAwful.com - Awful Link of the Day 12/15/2010]''</ref>

Herpy is also notable for being the place where [[Varka]] first announced his plans for [[Bad Dragon]].<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?110-Animal-Toys-) Herpy.net - Varka: "Animal 'Toys' ;-)"]''</ref>

On May 23rd, 2016 Herpy was shut down by its host, Bad Dragon Enterprises, ending its 11-year run.<ref>''[https://twitter.com/varka/status/734624613003563008 Twitter: @Varka]''</ref> Former administrator Dracokon has claimed he has no intentions of carrying on the website independently.<ref>''[https://twitter.com/Dracokon/status/734625596945338368 Twitter: @Dracokon]''</ref>

On July 6th 2016 the community was rebuilt by SIC Administrator Valcyrie. Even though all content was gone, the community userbase stayed through and are now working on building it back up from a clean slate. The new site bears no ties to its former host [[Varka]] or [[Bad Dragon]], and is also changed domain from .net to .nu.

== History ==
Herpy was established in February 2005 by Varka and BullGator as a reference resource both for artists as well as other visitors interested in the sexual aspects of reptilian behavior and anatomy. The original Herpy logo was designed by [[D.O.P.R.]], one of the many artists who maintain a personal gallery on the website. His logo was retired temporarily in 2009 but later became the official graphic of the community once again with slight alterations to reflect the website's new name.

The massive gallery and its corresponding community were originally hosted on their own server, however as of 2013 hosting considerations for Herpy are provided by Varka Enterprises. In its early years the community grew steadily with its gallery quickly pulling in over one million visitors per month and 1,000 registered users by October 2006. Despite these accomplishments the community remained "underground" in the fandom and received almost all of its traffic via search engines or word-of-mouth advertising. Herpy upgraded its forum software from phpBB to vBulletin in August 2010.

Varka was the community's administrator and site webmaster from 2005 through 2008. In On April 19, 2009 this role was given to [[Dracokon]] who continued to maintain the position until the shutdown of the site.<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?320-The-Official-quot-Meet-Your-New-Moderator-quot-Thread Herpy.net - BullGator: "Meet Your New 'Moderator'."]''</ref>

== Involvement with Bad Dragon ==
On December 7, 2007 Varka posted a discussion thread in Herpy's General Lounge forum titled "Animal 'Toys' ;-)". In this thread he discussed his desire and plans to sculpt and create dragon-themed sex toys to serve a market that he felt was glazed over by the existing toy companies. At the time of the thread's posting the company did not have a name, but in a post made on December 14, 2007 Varka used the name "[[Bad Dragon]]" for the first time<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?110-Animal-Toys-)&p=759&viewfull=1#post759 Herpy.net - Varka: "Animal 'Toys' ;-)"]''</ref> and announced that he had purchased the new business' domain name.

Varka made the announcement "We go live on Monday!" on April 12, 2008<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?110-Animal-Toys-)&p=1386&viewfull=1#post1386 Herpy.net - Varka: "Animal 'Toys' ;-)"]''</ref>. Two days later, Dracokon claimed he allegedly made the first public post on the Bad Dragon forums.<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?110-Animal-Toys-)&p=1393&viewfull=1#post1393 Herpy.net - Dracokon: "Animal 'Toys' ;-)"]''</ref>

After the takedown of May 23, 2016 Herpy was reborn under a new name and new domain on July 6th 2016, thereby also cutting all its former ties with Bad Dragon.

== Issues with defacing ==
In the early hours of November 11, 2008 an unknown group of hackers abused a security hole in the registration bridge between Herpy's forum and gallery and crashed the website, deleting forums and threads and replacing most of the site's graphics with shock images. Herpy.net was taken down by Varka and replaced with a message stating the forums would be restored and online again soon. Herpy's gallery was the first item to be restored and the forums themselves came back online in April 2009.

In September 2013 Herpy was one of dozens of vBulletins affected by a security exploit caused by erroneous installation files left on the Herpy.net server.<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?4127-9-10-2013-Postmortem-Site-defacing Herpy.net - Dracokon: "Postmortem: Site Defacing"]''</ref> Damage to the website was insignificant and fixed within hours and the site's vBulletin software was patched and its extraneous server files cleaned up.

== Herpy "2.0" ==
The term "Herpy 2.0" was formerly a playful joke coined by Dracokon when he first assumed his administrative position. The term was never used, but it was in reference to a number of upgrades and tweaks he applied to the forums over the course of his first few months in charge. The name was dropped in favor of performing ongoing website maintenance.

On August 24, 2010, when the forum software was upgraded from phpBB to vBulletin, the community was relaunched with a "2.0" suffix for several months. With the adoption of vBulletin Herpy obtained a built-in blogging platform where users could formally keep and share personal journals. To note this, the forum's previous "Members Only" private forum was depreciated and merged into the [[Otherkin]] forum to become a general "touchy issue" discussion center.

== Original content ==
Herpy also obtained a content management system (CMS) with the vBulletin update. An immediate database crash resulted in the CMS system becoming broken and irreparable without a complicated database backup procedure. Dracokon announced work had begun on rebuilding and restoring the CMS; on September 23, 2013 he announced that the CMS system was in working order and declared its official launch.<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?4164-9-23-2013-Presenting-*crosses-claws*-the-Articles-section! Herpy.net - Dracokon: "Presenting, the Articles section!"]''</ref>

Content published by Herpy is limited to articles covering the topics of herpetology, paleontology, and pop-culture topics pertaining to reptiles in general.

== Contests & Giveaways ==
As an incentive to keep people in the community administrators Dracokon and BullGator have both held numerous giveaways at landmark Herpy milestones or on regular holidays. A list of previous giveaways is below starting with the most recent:

''What's Yiffin'?'' ==Reception==
Immediate reception to the first broadcast of ''What's Yiffin'?'' in September 2015 was positive prompting Kon to bring the segment back the following month with two more news stories for a total of four per episode, a count which was maintained until the series' end. ''What's Yiffin'?'' generally performed better during its live broadcasts than on YouTube, though in terms of viewership it was among the best performing series on the Gatorbox channel.

''What's Yiffin'?'' was picked up for syndication by Dogpatch Press in February 2017, offering the series to a wider audience. However, information regarding the show's reception among the wider furry fandom at large is not currently available.

In 2016 ''What's Yiffin'?'' was eligible for nomination for an [[Ursa Major Award]] in the categories of Best Anthropomorphic Magazine and Best Anthropomorphic Website, however the series failed to make it into the voting period.

'''Gatorbox''', formerly known as '''GatorAIDS Gaming''', is a furry-themed video game and variety streaming website originally launched in December 2012.{{fact}} The project has been relaunched multiple times afterward due to various production hiatuses. The channel features a number of different anchors and guests of varying degrees of "furry" however as of 2015 furry author [[Dracokon|André Kon]] has served as the channel's primary host. Gatorbox routinely streams via Twitch and uploads truncated "recaps" of its broadcasts on YouTube.

The series entered an extended production hiatus in August 2017 after Hurricane Harvey destroyed the property where the show was filmed.<ref>''[https://youtu.be/Sg_QfeSYeHA Gatorbox - "The End of Gatorbox"]''</ref>

==Content==
The station features a variety of programming including gaming commentary/speedrunning, unboxings, and original series involving the furry fandom. Nods are frequently made to the community by means of off-handed jokes or by outright playing furry-themed games and unboxing furry products. References to popular community figures and companies, such as [[Bad Dragon]] and [[FurAffinity]], are very commonplace.

Gatorbox also ran the monthly parody news show ''[[What's Yiffin'?]]'' from September 2015 to August 2017 which took a satirical look at "top stories" in the furry fandom. In February 2017 the series was syndicated through [[Dogpatch Press]]<ref>''[http://dogpatch.press/2017/02/17/whats-yiffin-february-2017-edition-now-syndicating-the-monthly-furry-news-program/ Dogpatch Press - "What's Yiffin'? February 2017"]''</ref> until its cancellation later that year. ''What's Yiffin'?'' was generally included in the first broadcast of each month; it has since been replaced with ''Fanfiction Factory'', a show which focuses on humorous short stories involving popular characters and franchises often associated with the fandom.

Gatorbox is also known for its charity work. Every year since 2013 (with the exception of 2017) Gatorbox has broadcast a 24-hour speedrunning "telethon" with the charity Extra Life benefiting children's hospitals in Corpus Christi, Texas. To date, over $1,000 has been raised with additional contributions of toys from the channel's staff. Gatorbox's 2013 and 2014 marathons were broadcast from the charity's event headquarters in San Antonio, TX. All subsequent marathons have been produced in the channel's own studio.<ref>''[http://wiki.gator.co/index.php?title=Extra_Life Gatorbox Wiki - "Extra Life"]''</ref>

==History==
Gatorbox originally launched on December 21, 2012 and was funded and produced by independent media group Twilight Foundry. Numerous attempts were made to present the channel to its intended furry audience, however a combination of a lack of funding and short-staffing resulted in the project failing and in March 2013 Twilight Foundry pulled the plug and dismissed the station's cast. Flying Lizard Productions, a multimedia team based in San Antonio, Texas, tried to recover the project during the summer of 2013 but ultimately failed to do so.

Near the end of 2013 some of the former cast of Gatorbox rebooted the project through self-funding. Since then, Gatorbox has been produced in-house under the "Gator Company" name.

==Reception==
Immediate reception to the first broadcast of ''What's Yiffin'?'' in September 2015 was positive prompting Kon to bring the segment back the following month with two more news stories for a total of four per episode, a count which has been maintained ever since. ''What's Yiffin'?'' generally performs better during its live broadcasts than on YouTube, though in terms of viewership it is among the best performing series on the Gatorbox channel.

It remains eligible for nomination in 2017.

== Category order ==

Category order is something I've struggled with since joining WikiFur, as I'm sure you've noticed. I'd do better remembering if I had a visual list somewhere to refer to. Since you've been the one following me around with a broom and dustpan this entire time, I figured I'd ask you if you could provide me with one. [[User:Equivamp|Equivamp]] - [[User talk:Equivamp|talk]] 17:29, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

:I follow the example of our Category Lead, [[User:Sine|Sine]]:
:* <nowiki>[[Category:People]]</nowiki> always first
:* Activity-related categories (<nowiki>[[Category:Artists]], [[Category:Fursuiters]], constaff categories, guest-of-honour categories</nowiki>, etc, etc)
:* Species-related categories (generally main fursona)
:* Geographical categories (locations of significance - place of birth, current residence)
:* Time-related categories last (year of birth, year of death)--[[User:Higgs Raccoon|Higgs Raccoon]] ([[User talk:Higgs Raccoon|talk]]) 17:59, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

::The basic idea is to lead with categories which are most likely to be of interest to furry readers, which are more specific to the subject, and which are more "important" considering this is an article about a person (i.e. being a comic artist is more important than being a fox character). [[:Category:People]] is a bit odd given all that, but at least it's easy to remember. Also, having any scheme at all helps when scanning to see if something's been missed out in a particular section of the categories. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 22:27, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

If I am adding a stub template to an article, where should I put it? :I'd suggest below everything, at least if you're using that template, as the external links are still part of the article. We also have {{tl|Section-stub}}, which would go at the end of a section. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 16:53, 10 May 2015 (EDT)

== Page removal ==

Hello, a friend notified me that someone has written a page about me (complete with bizarre death theories) and I would very much appreciate if it can be removed. I simply decided some years ago that I wanted to separate myself from the fandom entirely, and while I would have no problem simply editing all of the misinformation in the article myself for correctness, the issue is I really would prefer my long-removed furry presence to be as minimal as possible. It is located at http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Abyss-Dog If needed, I am fully able to email you or DA note you from the account(s) mentioned in the Wiki as confirmation of my identity. == Gatorbox article ==

Why did you undo the article rewrite of the page [[Gatorbox]]? The content currently on the page is now outdated and the majority of the people mentioned on it haven't been involved for nearly three years. Also, I ask that you please avoid using the website's former name as the original producers still own it and requested that we no longer use it for marketing/etc. Please restore it to the version that was live as per my last revision please, thanks. [[User:AndreKon|AndreKon]] ([[User talk:AndreKon|talk]]) 20:15, 6 April 2016 (EDT)

:I think the problem was you didn't edit the original article and move it to a new name - you just created a new article and then redirected it. Equivamp attempted to fix that by restoring the old article and removing it to the new name, but this caused the "new" article to be deleted. I have restored your newer version of the article, although it may of course be edited further by others. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 20:29, 6 April 2016 (EDT)

::Gotcha, I apologize if that edit set off any internal alarms for things like vandalism, etc. No harm intended. I guess it goes without saying, but like a lot of users here I'm not very experienced with Wiki editing, at least not this kind of Wiki. I don't mind the accessibility of the article itself or anything, but I had gotten a heads up from the former producers that they wanted me to help clean up the footprint of their original domain name and all that. I'll do a bit more poking around since there are some things marked "citation needed" now. Thanks for the revert! :) [[User:AndreKon|AndreKon]] ([[User talk:AndreKon|talk]]) 20:32, 6 April 2016 (EDT)

I don't know how to do citations, but here is the page on my site where the quote about my name is from:
http://dracokon.com/pages/about.php
"If you're curious what "Dracokon" even means, let me explain. It's actually a combination of "draco" (Latin for "dragon") and "convention" spelled with a K. "Dracokon" means "dragon meeting/gathering", I don't think it really has a special meaning or anything but it sounds cool, and the domain name was available!"
[[User:Dracokon|Dracokon]] 23:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Neato. Been watching this page off and on for many years and it's cool seeing random edits and readers fleshing this page out. I've corrected a few mistakes or incorrect information here and there over the years (and tried adding citations where needed) so I think I've got a lot of bits sorted out. I uploaded and added a new photo of me to the Wiki taken this year at a convention I was a guest at. I also added a link to my "fursona" page, so maybe someday I will just copy the info from the "Character" section here and paste it to the new article. Just wanted to say thanks to the folks who have casually added stuff to the page here, according to my website's analytics I get a lot of referral traffic from here. :P [[User:AndreKon|AndreKon]] 19:01, 15 October 2013 (EDT) (Also I forgot the login details for my original "Dracokon" account here. '''Herpy: Reptile Lovers' Community''' (formerly known as '''Herpy Image Archive''' from 2005 - 2009) is an art aggregator and interactive community for artists, writers, and fans of everything [[herpetophile|herpetophilia]].

== History ==

In On April 19, 2009 this role was given to [[Dracokon]] who continues to maintain the position to this day.<ref>''[http://www.herpy.net/showthread.php?320-The-Official-quot-Meet-Your-New-Moderator-quot-Thread Herpy.net - BullGator: "Meet Your New 'Moderator'."]''</ref>

The website's official Twitter, [https://twitter.com/HerpyRLC @HerpyRLC], was established on September 10, 2013.

== Issues with defacing ==

== Herpy "2.0" ==

== Original content ==

== Contests & Giveaways ==
As an incentive to keep people in the community administrators Dracokon and BullGator have both held numerous giveaways at landmark Herpy milestones or on regular holidays. A list of previous giveaways is below starting with the most recent:

'''Herpy: Reptile Lovers' Community''' (formerly known as '''Herpy Image Archive''' from 2005 - 2009) is an art aggregator and interactive community for artists, writers, and fans of everything [[herpetophile|herpetophilia]]. The website is commonly known as '''Herpy''' among members.

== History ==
