==History==

Furry Weekend Atlanta was the logical outgrowth of [[Furmeet|furry gatherings]] held for years in the [[W:Atlanta, Georgia|Metro Atlanta area]] at the homes of various [[furries]]. Over the years, as more and more [[fur]]s showed, the gatherings became larger and larger.

The idea of holding a [[furry convention]] was raised by several members of the Atlanta [[furry community]], first in 2001 when nothing became of it, and then again in 2003. As a result of several planning sessions held in August of 2003, a concrete plan emerged to hold a convention in February 2004. The name chosen echoes that of the American [[Anime|anime convention]], [[W:Anime Weekend Atlanta|Anime Weekend Atlanta]].

==Organization==

Furry Weekend Atlanta is produced by [[Furry Weekend Atlanta, Inc.]], a [[W:501(c)(3)|501(c)(3) non-profit corporation]] incorporated in the [[W:Georgia|State of Georgia]]. Furry Weekend Atlanta Inc., in turn, is headed by an Executive Committee tasked with operating the yearly convention and promoting the acceptance and appreciation of the [[anthropomorphic fandom]] in the American Southeast and throughout the country as a whole. As a non-profit corporation, only funds necessary for the continuing operation of the convention are retained; the remaining funds are donated to appropriate [[charity|charities]].

In addition to operating the convention, '''Furry Weekend Atlanta, Inc.''' also maintains [[Georgia Furs]], and works to organize the Georgia furry population for entertainment and services.

==History==
She began as a minimal character, being the twin sister of his other character [[Lemon (R-Force)|Lemon]], who stars in Aelius's [[R-Force]] series. After being introduced as a character in [[Joshua The Samurai]]'s close-knit [[role playing]] story, [[Bambi's Bamboo Bar]] her popularity among the [[RP]]'ers quickly grew and Joshua himself admits that she's probably his personal muse now, as he tries to make her a cameo at least once in each of his other written stories.

As a character, Melon is easily described as being cheerful and energetic, always with a smile on her face (or mischievous grin) and is notorious for taking photos no matter where she goes. She gets a kick out of catching her friends in embarrassing situations (never directly caused by herself) and snapping a picture before anyone realizes what happened. She also has a knack for drawing whatever her camera can't get, and she has entire stacks of sketchbooks to prove it. Even so, it's never done out of malicious intent; only for laughs among friends and those involved.

==Current character development==
Presently, Melon works as a photographer at Xanadu Studios, a modeling studio in [[wikipedia:Chicago, Illinois|Chicago]] owned by Andromeda (a direwolf, and another character belonging to Aelius). She shares an apartment with her friends Roxanne Dawson and Alexis (and just recently, Anita), and hangs out with her friends at the Bamboo Bar, which is where the main storyline takes place.

Although Aelius has a personal policy against letting his fursona get romantically involved with his own creations, Joshua The Samurai cleverly set Melon up with Aelius's character in the story and according to the current storyline, she has a secret crush on Aelius (who happens to be too dense to realize it, and in the story actually has his own secret crush on Xanadu model and friend of Melon, Aurelia Wolphex, who in turn has no idea he has a crush on her).

'''Aelius''', is a [[furry artist]], [[writer]], and [[Christian Fur]] from Georgia, U.S.A. He created a [[webcomic]], ''[[Jewel Vixens]]'', and was its chief writer/editor. He's also been published in ROAR and Inhuman Acts.

Aelius is an avid fan of comics and artwork, originally discovering [[Extinctioners]], [[Gold Digger]], [[Havoc Inc.]], and the works of [[Paul Kidd]] as his introduction into the furry fandom. He also enjoys video games across a variety of genres.

As a writer, he began early on with ''[[Extinctioners]]'' [[fanfic]]s, and later collaborated with other writers on various projects before establishing his own characters and worlds. His current published writing credits include two comic stories in the first two issues of [[Extinctioners: Tales of the Endangered]] (the first of which he also penciled). He was also featured in the self-published novel [[Obsidian Road]], which contains three short stories written by himself, [[Joshua the Samurai]], and [[the Tomcat]] centering on their own [[Kapar Saga]]. Aelius' is the third story in the book, ''The Man With No Soul''. He was later published in [[Inhuman Acts]] with his story, ''Guardian Angels''. Afterwards, his story, ''Lucid'' was featured in [[ROAR]], vol. 8. He is also working on a number of personal novels featuring the characters shown in his art galleries.

== Character ==

As a character, Aelius's fursona starred in [[Joshua The Samurai]]'s role-playing story series, [[Bambi's Bamboo Bar]], where his appearance was of his original [[wolf]] fursona. His personality remained moderately true to his real self, but his profession involved teaching Kung Fu at a local Shaolin Dojo in Chicago along with Joshua's own fursona-turned-character. Within this storyline, he later had an "adopted fraternal twin brother" who happened to be the characterization of his second fursona, a fennec fox named [[Kaili]].

'''Kaili''' was a [[fennec]] fox character created by [[Aelius]] that served as an "alternate" [[fursona]], showing Aelius' more energetic side. Aelius later deemed the fennec fox as his new fursona, being more in line with how he had grown as a person since discovering the furry fandom. Joshua the Samurai took a particular liking to the character after he was introduced to the Bamboo Bar series, and included him in his [[Venus Saga]] storyline as a rival to [[Magnus Mangreer]] the [[arctic fox]] for the affections of [[Tika Korwyn]].

Presently, Aelius's fursona has changed once again to that of a leucistic river otter, representing further development as a person and growing within the fandom.

== Story Settings ==

Aelius has created a number of settings in which his stories, both current and future, take place. Most prominent is that of his "Auran" setting, a millennia-spanning fantasy wherein anthropomorphic denizens of the sister planets Raikonia and Malivia develop supernatural talents granted by a mysterious Aura, believed to have originated from divine beings from beyond the stars. People who chose to use their special powers benevolently are known as Sages, charged with the protection of innocent life against supernatural threats. The setting is split between the Ancient period, which follows a sword-and-sorcery theme, and the modern period, which fits more in line with superhero-styled works.

He is also working on a sword-and-sand fantasy story called Serenity's Edge, featuring a protagonist built from his former fursona, Kaili the fennec fox. Here, Kaili al-Saphim struggles to fight for his freedom under an oppressive warlord, who employs a deadly bodyguard named Ïsara Aiazen to thwart the fennec.

The comic is currently on hiatus as the main artist, Jodimest, had stepped down to pursue personal projects. A number of replacement artists had been considered, but the comic has not continued since.

(The blades are still flat enough to slice like a regular sword.) The holes would give the swords a "singing" sound when swung. Wind swords were originally used as a ceremonial weapon; Kaili is one of the few who are trained to use them as weapons of war. The fighting style itself normally involves holding the swords inverted and throughout the entire fight, keeping the weapons between their wielder and the opponent the entire time. Masters of this style are virtually untouchable because of this.

The first issue of ''Extinctioners'' (book one according the cover), entitled "Countdown to Extinction", was published in July 1998 by Vision Comics. It had a cover price of $3.95 US or $5.50 Canadian, and is 32 full-color pages on glossy paper. The story and pencils are by Shawntae Howard, and the inks by [[Malcolm Earle]]. The digital color is by [[Eric Blumrich]] and [[Scotty Arsenault]].

The second issue of ''Extinctioners'', issue 1 of volume 2, was published in April 1999 by Shanda Fantasy Arts. It had a color cover, and 32 black and white interior pages containing two stories: "Countdown to Extinction Part Two" (story and art by Shawntae Howard, inks by Malcolm Earle, lettering by [[Fender]] and [[Tom Ziolkowski]]) and "Freedom" (story, pencils, and inks by Shawntae Howard; letters by Fender).

''Extinctioners'' follows a group of characters who learn that they are 'hybrids' possessing special powers, and that their creators are on their way back to their planet with plans of taking over. The [[humanoid]] animals on the planet Alden, or humanimals, were genetic constructs created by [[human]]s for the purpose of avoiding having animals become extinct on an over-populated Earth, with the idea that more humanoid animals would be able to better adapt to the changing reduction to their natural environments and increased pollution.

During the time of a global war, the humans discovered a new fresh planet though a wormhole that would be inhabitable for mankind, so they sent a seeding of humanimals with human trainers to the planet to terraform the planet, building cities and setting up social organizations, so that upon the humans' arrival the transition to the new planet would go smoothly. However, a miscalculation in the wormhole's temporal properties caused the humans to lose contact with their humanimal constructs, leaving them alone on the planet for years.

Without direct guidance, the humanimals developed on their own, and would eventually create a social structure suitable for their vastly diverse races. Now with the memory of mankind vague in the social conscious, humans, or The Makers, have been elevated to an virtual deity status among much of the humanimal population. The humans, however, are still on their way to Alden and the Extinctioners are the only ones that know that they are coming, due to less than positive encounters with a small faction of humans. What the humans ultimate plans for Alden and its humanimal population has yet to be revealed, whether they will be benevolent creators or an angry destructive force has yet to be determined.

The main heroes of Extinctioners consist of two major groups that at the beginning of the series came together to fight the first wave of an invasion fleet, then later went their separate ways.

== Story ==

''Extinctioners'' follows a group of characters who learn that they are 'hybrids' possessing special powers, and that their creators are on their way back to their planet with plans of taking over. The humanoid animals on the planet Alden, or humanimals, were genetic constructs created by [[human]]s for the purpose of avoiding having animals become extinct on an over-populated Earth, with the idea that more humanoid animals would be able to better adapt to the changing reduction to their natural environments and increased pollution.

During the time of a global war, the humans discovered a new fresh planet though a wormhole that would be inhabitable for mankind, so they sent a seeding of humanimals with human trainers to the planet to terraform the planet, building cities and setting up social organizations, so that upon the humans' arrival the transition to the new planet would go smoothly. However, a miscalculation in the wormhole's temporal properties caused the humans to lose contact with their humanimal constructs, leaving them alone on the planet for years.

Without direct guidance, the humanimals developed on their own, and would eventually create a social structure suitable for their vastly diverse races. Now with the memory of mankind vague in the social conscious, humans, or The Makers, have been elevated to an virtual deity status among much of the humanimal population. The humans, however, are still on their way to Alden and the Extinctioners are the only ones that know that they are coming, due to less than positive encounters with a small faction of humans. What the humans ultimate plans for Alden and it's humanimal population has yet to be revealed, whether they will be benevolent creators or an angry destructive force has yet to be determined.

The main heroes of Extinctioners consist of two major groups that at the beginning of the series came together to fight the first wave of an invasion fleet, then later went their separate ways.

A character created by [[Aelius]], '''Delfina Alexia Aluris''' the [[dolphin]] is the mysterious owner of Aluris Enterprises: a business that works in fashions and novelties, all of which were designed by her own clever and extremely creative mind. She carries a calm, confident attitude that’s very friendly and open. She also tends to speak in a very proper tone, giving the impression that she is from more aristocratic backgrounds (which is true, actually).

== Background ==
The daughter of a French mother and a Hawaiian father, Delfina was raised in a wealthy family and lived a rather normal life at home, though as her late teen years came up her crafty, mischeivous nature made her into quite an active young lady. As the years went on she finally decided to calm down and make a living for herself, specializing in fashion design.

Even now at the age of 40, she's still proven to be just as creative and energetic as ever, having has gained numerous friends and clients throughout the years, including [[T'Shelle]] after moving to Chicago. Hanging out in [[Bambi's Bamboo Bar]] has given her access to quite a range of characters, (not to mention the new record for most sushi - her favorite food - consumed in one sitting).

== Aluris Enterprises ==
Aluris Enterprises began as a way for Delfina to show off her designs, and quick turned into a successful business.

Delfina uses paid volunteers for her catalogues, rather than regularly-shown models because she had noticed quite a few people interested in modeling for her products and didn’t want to select only a few. She has no problem letting previous volunteers return if there’s room. Aluris Enterprises has recently joined in agreement with [[Andromeda]]’s [[Xanadu Studios]] for exchanges of potential volunteers and products for their respective catalogues and magazines. Delfina herself is on very good terms with Andromeda, and is happy to be working with such fine talents at Xanadu, and Andromeda herself is honored to be working with Delfina’s expertise and experience.

The first issue of ''Extinctioners'' (book one according the cover), entitled "Countdown to Extinction", was published in July 1998 by Vision Comics. It had a cover price of $3.95 US or $5.50 Canadian, and is 32 full-color pages on glossy paper. The story and pencils are by Shawntae Howard, and the inks by [[Malcolm Earle]]. The digital color is by [[Eric Blumrich]] and [[Scotty Arsenault]].

The second issue of ''Extinctioners'', issue 1 of volume 2, was published in April 1999 by Shanda Fantasy Arts. ==Ask-A-Vixen==
Recently, Aelius came up with a new feature to be added to the website called Ask-A-Vixen. Readers can email an address listed (such as the one in the External Links section of this WikiFur page) with a question to the Vixens, and the answers from the Vixens themselves will be posted on a special section of the website. Aelius warns that this feature is mainly for fun and giggles, so the girls won't be answering anything that spoils potential plots or that just reeks of extreme-fanboyishness. Of course, that very fact DOES give them the chance to mock the people who asked the offensive questions, though.

As a character, Kaili is also the "adopted fraternal twin brother" of Aelius in the [[role play]] series, [[Bambi's Bamboo Bar]]. (He has appeared in the private RP chats between Aelius and [[Joshua the Samurai]] but he's yet to appear in the actual Bamboo Bar story.)

Kai has a number of interesting traits that Aelius sometimes wished he himself had, including a more out-going personality and a more slender, lithe body. Kaili also has a unique fascination with body jewelry, which shows in the various gold ring piercings he has (so far, four have been confirmed - one in each ear and both his nipples pierced - though there's always the possibility of more) and the gold necklace and armbands he wears.

After a bit more development of character, Kaili was recently found to be an amazing swordsman, using twin [[wind swords]] in a special style of martial weapon arts called the "Xi'Kar Inverted Wave Sword Style" Wind swords get their name from the special ceramic material that takes up the rear half of the blades and has various holes dotted along them. (The blades are still flat enough to slice like a regular sword.) The holes would give the swords a "singing" sound when swung. Wind swords were originally used as a ceremonial weapon; Kaili is one of the few who are trained to use them as weapons of war. The fighting style itself normally involves holding the swords inverted and throughout the entire fight, keeping the weapons between their wielder and the opponent the entire time. Masters of this style are virtually untouchable because of this.

Joshua the Samurai took a particular liking to the character after he was introduced to the Bamboo Bar, and is considering including him in his [[Venus Saga]] storyline.

Within this storyline, he also has an "adopted fraternal twin brother" (who happens to be the characterization of his [[fennec]] fursona) named [[Kaili]] and a bunny friend named [[Melon]], who harbors a secret crush on him. ''Extinctioners'' follows a group of characters who learn that they are 'hybrids' possessing special powers, and that their creators are on their way back to their planet with plans of taking over. The humanoid animals on the planet Alden, or humanimals, were genetic constructs created by [[human]]s for the purpose of avoiding having animals become extinct on an over-populated Earth, with the idea that more humanoid animals would be able to better adapt to the changing reduction to their natural environments and increased pollution.

During the time of a global war, the humans discovered a new fresh planet though a wormhole that would be inhabitable for mankind, so they sent a seeding of humanimals with human trainers to the planet to terraform the planet, building cities and setting up social organizations, so that upon the humans' arrival the transition to the new planet would go smoothly. However, a miscalculation in the wormhole's temporal properties caused the humans to lose contact with their humanimal constructs, leaving them alone on the planet for years.

Without direct guidance, the humanimals developed on their own, and would eventually create a social structure suitable for their vastly diverse races. Now with the memory of mankind vague in the social conscious, humans, or The Makers, have been elevated to an virtual deity status among much of the humanimal population. The humans, however, are still on their way to Alden and the Extinctioners are the only ones that know that they are coming, due to less than positive encounters with a small faction of humans. What the humans ultimate plans for Alden and it's humanimal population has yet to be revealed, whether they will be benevolent creators or an angry destructive force has yet to be determined.

== Fan creations ==

* The Extinctioners fandom grew rather quickly, and fan response was quite varied. Not only did some fans create their own fan-characters inspired by the story, some even created fan teams.
* The character Artica had a strong enough fan response that a "Yahoo Groups" Fan Group devoted specifically to her was created. However, the group recieves a lot of content about the character Scarlet, making it a fan club for both vixens.

* The [[Andorozon]]s were featured in ''Extinctioners'' Vol. 11. They are [[anthroid]]s, which are made from a blend of synthetic-organics and cybernetics, but possess the minds of living beings.
