Meow! My friend Wayon was trying to make edits to his own page and forgot to log in to his account. He sent me a DM just now saying that he got IP banned from Wikifur so I looked and looks like you reversed all the edits and said it was "pos sus vandalism" - He's now quite annoyed because he can't see or edit his own page on here anymore even though it was a legitimate use. Hey there Spirou!

I'm a wandering wiki enjoyer from other platforms (currently mostly doing stuff on minecraft.wiki). I looked at RC and saw that you daily ban plenty of spamming accounts which surprised me. Perhaps you know a bit more about state of the wiki, I guess I'm just curious, because I feel like plenty of that spam could be thwarted by some abuse filters/perhaps using some MediaWiki blacklists (like perhaps copying some used by Wikimedia Foundation hosted wikis). I suppose a lot of limitations may come from the fact wiki is still on very old MediaWiki version, though the wiki has Abuse Filters and SpamBlacklist/Titleblacklist extensions installed so perhaps they could be utilized to some extent. MediaWiki wikis sadly are an easy target for spam bots and every wiki has to deal with them to some extent.

Thus my question, were there attempts to use Abuse Filters and Spam/Title blacklists to contain the spam? I feel like it could pay off in less whack-a-mole game. And please, I really don't want it to sounds like I'm telling anyone what to do, just trying to figure out if there is something that could be improved spam account wise. :No prob with the query; in short, I'm not high enough on [[Wikifur]]'s staff ladder to handle spam filter-wise. The highest curator that handles this matter is Curator [[Greenreaper]]. As you noted, the most I can do is block the spammer themselves and remove their spam articles (reverts can be done by everybody). I have/use Mac software (Safari extensions/apps/scripts) that makes these bans/reversals very easy to accomplish almost instantly (no more bans or deletions typed one time at a bloody time). Well, I did check and you have technical powers to do so on [[Special:AbuseFilter|AbuseFilter]] page, the [[Special:ListGroupRights]] makes it pretty clear that the group you have is a renamed administrator/sysop from regular MediaWiki installations so you technically can both edit the SpamBlacklist ([[MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist]]) as well as create/edit existing AbuseFilters - meaning that you have technical means to edit both. But maybe you are referring to "permission to do so" which is added in requirement. I guess I'll contact Greenreaper in regards to that then. Most, if not almost all, worldwide comic/fandom cons carry the artists' figure, as the artists and dedicated fans are the ones who created this fandom. Fantasy cons is mostly writers; SCIFI is a mix of writers of novelists and illustrators. == A dispute over Israeli Furs page ==

Hello Spirou! I would like to ask for your interference in the page [[Israeli Furs]].

You see, there's a group of several people who are claiming to own the page (I remember from past conversations with some local furries that they told me "not to touch this page if I don't want trouble.") Back then, I was pretty naive and innocent, and didn't know what they were talking about. Later, after I left ILFurs groups for my reasons, but that's irrelevant for now.

What I want to say, is that I get the impression that there is a group of people who claim to own this page, and therefore any editing about it, "so there won't be a mess". They are proclaiming this page is intended to represent all of Israel's furry community, but actually, the page isn't representing all of the community as they say, but only a small portion of it. I might sound subjective, and I am, but do you really think a small group of specific people can have a monopoly over a page that claims to represent all of the local community, and preventing others from editing by what I personally felt like an implied threat?

If this is really an open page for all of the community, so it should be an open page that also its criticisers can edit it freely as long as it's not against Wikifur's guidelines. This page isn't a private property, and censorship of different views is a blatant mouth shutting and a visible attempt to cause drama and make me look immature and dumb.

It will be said to my credit: I have opened my own page for my own groups, because I don't feel Israeli Furs page represents them or giving them any space. I remember that when I added my groups to the page back then, they didn't undo my work, but still gave me the impression they would prefer that my groups won't be in this page, because "If you want to change anything, tell us and we'll change".

I swear to god I don't making this up. And I rarely swear.

I would like to have you interfered here and solving this matter once and for all: Is the page "Israeli Furs" truly represents all of the Furry Israeli community, or is it just a union of some groups under the same names which doesn't represent the entire community?

But the situation forced it, whatever qualm Catwells had at the time, he did not communicate it to the pages editors or other involved figures, it just surfaced out of nowhere, and he took it out on an article that has sentimental value to the collective fandom. The article was kept intentionally in the previous non wikified format because this is what the collective community enjoyed, as it was accessible for anyone to return to their roots or show to new community members when sharing the legacy of the Israeli fandom. By the time I edited the first part it was already being talked by other members through multiple chats and groups. This could have turned into an edit war or another expression of negative response and it took a lot of rephrasing with intentionally redundant narrative just to have multiple groups at peace. Nothing is set in stone is true but in action, it can be difficult to communicate that to multiple community groups and chat groups after they see that pieces of their history and sections they resonate with got taken out so arbitrarily. Dear Spirou! I would like to clarify that I don't want to have any connection to ILFurs anymore. I'm tired of any attempts to cooperate with the ILFurs admins (which don't even have any connection to the Israeli Furs group). I never really wanted to cooperate with them, and did so only because I thought it's necessary. But I decided to detach all of my connections to them because those relationships aren't good for me and just make me feel uncomfortable, anxious, frustrated and angry. So it's better just to stay away.

Anyway, there are still a couple of things needs to be changed and be fixed. I have a strong believe that this page should not try to represent all of the furry community in Israel. You see, there is not connection between those groups. All of those groups might have similiar names, but that's it. There's nothing between them.

Kovuah is the real owner of Israeli Furs group. Thus, this page which called Israeli Furs should represent her group and only her group, not any other group that isn't a sub-group directly attached to it.

No other country in the furry fandom claims to have an official representation of everyfur, and that’s just wrong to claim otherwise. There are many different groups, communities and organizations. That’s usually the state, because there are many fractions that have their own way of being a furry. My group’s culture is way too different than ILFurs, Israeli Furs, Israeli Furries or any other group that ever been or that will ever be. There is no just “one community for all” - that’s a lie that should end right here and now. I have wrote in the Israeli Furs:Talk article my arguments

Hello Spirou,

Through my many deep dives I've come across some archived furrynet usenet logs and other text based media, what would be the best way to add them to the wiki without bloating pages? should I create special pages and add links to their respective pages or should I host the text files somewhere else and link them? I'd prefer to do it on the wiki since I don't archive individual items on archive.org and don't trust external text host sites.
Let me know what's best practice in this wiki :3

==Removal of false tag==

Hi,

The list is wrong. I'm the person who made the AU Rabbot the Red. It is not a person. Rabbot is in reference to the character Bunnie Rabbot. Red is in reference to communism. My fiance and I have done a lot of artwork of it which you can find on our FA page. Likely someone gave whoever made the list false information, or there's someone going by the name "Rabbot the Red" to cause confusion to smear me. This wouldn't be the first time, mind you.

The quoted private messages are part of a pattern of behavior that is relevant to the way the ‘Israeli Furs’ article is managed. The person quoted (Arnavii) is a community administrator who has used their position to make direct threats and to pressure contributors.
These messages were not published to shame anyone personally, but to demonstrate how administrative authority is being misused to silence opposing voices.

Hello! I'm interested in creating a page on this wiki for Aeromorphs. Although I'm aware you removed the Planesona page for "Mainstream, non-furry and/or another fandom". Although I would be creating the page under the page for specifically Aeromorphs, these two are directly related (as they redirect lol) to eachother. I thought about just submitting a proposal but thought it would be most proactive to come to you first before I began to create the page. I would love to be able to discuss the possible creation for the page or the reason the planesona page was taken down previously. :Planesonas, Aeromorphs, or any type of [[anthro]] equipmentsona/techsona is not [[furry fandom]] related. We already had a similar issue when vegetable personas were discussed as viable [[Wikifur]] articles (in that case, [[W:Big Idea Entertainment|Big Idea Entertainment]]'s ''[[W:VeggieTales|VeggieTales]]''). The [[furry fandom]] only covers [[anthropomorphic]] [[animal]]s and some [[creatures]] ([[alien]]s, [[monster]]s, [[mermaid]]s, etc). [[W:Hasbro|Hasbro]] and [[W:Takara Tomy|Takara Tomy]]'s [[Transformers]] were allowed only for the [[Beast Wars]] angle (i.e. conversion to animal form, not Transformers with partial furry elements [[[ear]]s, [[tail]]s, [[paw]]s, other]), but pure mechanics ([[Disney's ''[[W:Planes (film)|Planes]]'' or ''[[W:Cars (franchise)|Cars]]'') do not qualify.

:This would open/lead to a slippery slope to add >anything< as anthro(Anthro Tylenol, Nivea, iPads/iPhones/iPods, et al)... That said, we do allow artists to add non-furry species on their own articles, as long as some pure [[furry]] data is in there (i.e., true [[Fursona|furry fursona]]s).

:This query comes about every five years, and the only change from the last one was (again) allowing a [[furry artist]] to have equipmentsonas in their personal articles, as long as "pure" furry connection to the fandom was present.

::I totally understand where you're coming from, but I disagree with the idea they aren't somewhat aligned with furry. A lot of this comes down to their anatomy, with prominent animal-like muzzles and tails. Some Aeromorphs, especially recently, have been even featured with digitigrade legs, paws, and even sometimes ears. It goes so far as artists having sometimes (really only recently from what I have seen) drawn them with fur or fully feral anatomy with mammal-like legs. While it is very common to see them with anatomy similar to a human (not that there aren't traditional fursonas proportioned similarly) I find they tend to look reminiscent to dragons with an airplane coat of paint, similar in concept to ''Dragon Pilot''. There are also quite a few Aeromorph fursuits like [https://x.com/ShagpokeStudios/status/1296612888753221637 Jazoray], [https://www.weasyl.com/~silversheep/submissions/1564242/fur4all-2017-normie-nomad-1 Normandy], and a few others on tiktok. If you look at a lot of the profiles of the people you see drawing Aeromorphs on things like deviantart, furrafinity, and other mainstream social medias, alongside it you can often find the artists are furries themselves or even tag their Aeromorphs under anthro or furry. Now I totally agree with you that Aeromorphs aren't explicitly ''furry'', and there are people in the community who I feel don't consider themselves as such. On the other hand though there are concepts on here like [[Therian]], or (this may be a stretch) [[werewolves]] that while not being a explicitly furry concept have a large enough overlap with the fandom to be included. Aeromorphs as of recent have also been gaining a lot of traction, with a lot more fursonas popping up around the species. There has been a huge resurgence leading to a lot of newer people to make characters just out of enjoyment of the unique concept for a fursona or just the history and community behind them. For a good example of this, looking up Aeromorph on [https://www.tumblr.com/search/aeromorph?src=recent_search Tumblr] gives a lot of examples of this new audience, notable by a cuter appearance and designs that are less anthropomorphic. A lot of these derive from the [[Airplane Dragon]] species (which is very similar to Aeromorphs, in my eyes being a subset of Aeromorph), but that is only the case for a few as there is a lot of Aeromorphs that are very separate from the species in design. Aeromorphs have a very interesting history and details with a lot of points of reference to be able to create a really interesting page, and have a large enough community around them to the point where I feel they can separate themselves from smaller more spread out anthropomorphized objects while having that strong tie to the community.

Perhaps you know a bit more about state of the wiki, I guess I'm just curious, because I feel like plenty of that spam could be thwarted by some abuse filters/perhaps using some MediaWiki blacklists (like perhaps copying some used by Wikimedia Foundation hosted wikis). I suppose a lot of limitations may come from the fact wiki is still on very old MediaWiki version, though the wiki has Abuse Filters and SpamBlacklist/Titleblacklist extensions installed so perhaps they could be utilized to some extent. MediaWiki wikis sadly are an easy target for spam bots and every wiki has to deal with them to some extent.

Thus my question, were there attempts to use Abuse Filters and Spam/Title blacklists to contain the spam? I feel like it could pay off in less whack-a-mole game. And please, I really don't want it to sounds like I'm telling anyone what to do, just trying to figure out if there is something that could be improved spam account wise. :No prob with the query; in short, I'm not high enough on [[Wikifur]]'s staff ladder to handle spam filter-wise. The highest curator that handles this matter is Curator [[Greenreaper]]. As you noted, the most I can do is block the spammer themselves and remove their spam articles (reverts can be done by everybody). I have/use Mac software (Safari extensions/apps/scripts) that makes these bans/reversals very easy to accomplish almost instantly (no more bans or deletions typed one time at a bloody time). Well, I did check and you have technical powers to do so on [[Special:AbuseFilter|AbuseFilter]] page, the [[Special:ListGroupRights]] makes it pretty clear that the group you have is a renamed administrator/sysop from regular MediaWiki installations so you technically can both edit the SpamBlacklist ([[MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist]]) as well as create/edit existing AbuseFilters - meaning that you have technical means to edit both. Hello Spirou! I would like to ask for your interference in the page [[Israeli Furs]].

You see, there's a group of several people who are claiming to own the page (I remember from past conversations with some local furries that they told me "not to touch this page if I don't want trouble.") Back then, I was pretty naive and innocent, and didn't know what they were talking about. Later, after I left ILFurs groups for my reasons, but that's irrelevant for now.

What I want to say, is that I get the impression that there is a group of people who claim to own this page, and therefore any editing about it, "so there won't be a mess". They are proclaiming this page is intended to represent all of Israel's furry community, but actually, the page isn't representing all of the community as they say, but only a small portion of it. I might sound subjective, and I am, but do you really think a small group of specific people can have a monopoly over a page that claims to represent all of the local community, and preventing others from editing by what I personally felt like an implied threat?

If this is really an open page for all of the community, so it should be an open page that also its criticisers can edit it freely as long as it's not against Wikifur's guidelines. This page isn't a private property, and censorship of different views is a blatant mouth shutting and a visible attempt to cause drama and make me look immature and dumb.

It will be said to my credit: I have opened my own page for my own groups, because I don't feel Israeli Furs page represents them or giving them any space. I remember that when I added my groups to the page back then, they didn't undo my work, but still gave me the impression they would prefer that my groups won't be in this page, because "If you want to change anything, tell us and we'll change".

I swear to god I don't making this up. And I rarely swear.

I would like to have you interfered here and solving this matter once and for all: Is the page "Israeli Furs" truly represents all of the Furry Israeli community, or is it just a union of some groups under the same names which doesn't represent the entire community?

Dear Spirou! I would like to clarify that I don't want to have any connection to ILFurs anymore. I'm tired of any attempts to cooperate with the ILFurs admins (which don't even have any connection to the Israeli Furs group). I never really wanted to cooperate with them, and did so only because I thought it's necessary. But I decided to detach all of my connections to them because those relationships aren't good for me and just make me feel uncomfortable, anxious, frustrated and angry. So it's better just to stay away.

Anyway, there are still a couple of things needs to be changed and be fixed. I have a strong believe that this page should not try to represent all of the furry community in Israel. You see, there is not connection between those groups. All of those groups might have similiar names, but that's it. There's nothing between them.

Kovuah is the real owner of Israeli Furs group. Thus, this page which called Israeli Furs should represent her group and only her group, not any other group that isn't a sub-group directly attached to it.

No other country in the furry fandom claims to have an official representation of everyfur, and that’s just wrong to claim otherwise. There are many different groups, communities and organizations. That’s usually the state, because there are many fractions that have their own way of being a furry. My group’s culture is way too different than ILFurs, Israeli Furs, Israeli Furries or any other group that ever been or that will ever be. The list is wrong. I'm the person who made the AU Rabbot the Red. It is not a person. Rabbot is in reference to the character Bunnie Rabbot. Red is in reference to communism. My fiance and I have done a lot of artwork of it which you can find on our FA page. ::Perfect, yeah refrain from using the photoshop models regardless, if you want to do a proper upscale something like ESRGAN (https://github.com/xinntao/Real-ESRGAN) which is based on a different architecture altogether and does not hallucinate details unlike a diffusion architecture (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1809.00219), personally I think its best to have a real but noisy image rather than a fake hallucination as it will be more historically accurate than letting a machine learning algorithm decide what gets upscaled.

I am Arnavii (to which Catwell referrs to as Arnavichii) - one of the administrators and co-founders of ILfurs.
Every bit of conversation of myself with Catwell were uploaded without my permission (the screenshots, and the pasted text) - same goes for every bit of conversation with Kovuah (authorized by Kovuah to write this in their name).
These conversations are edited to be out of context, and seem to be pasted here as a part of the same repeating pattern of personal meaures sfrom Catwell's side.
None of the massages (Mine & Kovuah's) were posted with my consent.

I request immediate attention for this situation, deletion of the private DMS, and making sure this violation does not repeat itself.

The quoted private messages are part of a pattern of behavior that is relevant to the way the ‘Israeli Furs’ article is managed. The person quoted (Arnavii) is a community administrator who has used their position to make direct threats and to pressure contributors.
These messages were not published to shame anyone personally, but to demonstrate how administrative authority is being misused to silence opposing voices.
In that sense, they are highly relevant to the context of this article and its control. I would respectfully ask that they be considered legitimate under WikiFur’s guidelines concerning accountability and transparency.

No, placeholder pages, especially with such a dearth or lack of data, are not (usually) permitted on the main wiki page (and again, are used by griefers et al).

:There wasn't, but after years and dozens and dozens of different [[furry convention]] layouts, [[WikiFur:Spirou's convention project|we finally started to implement one slowly but gradually]]. It has been a struggle so far, and it will probably take at least one to two years minimum. The article link in this paragraph is the latest version of how to implement new and old convention articles if you need additional help, as it will be up to people well-versed in each convention to help update all pages. Hello! I'm interested in creating a page on this wiki for Aeromorphs. Although I'm aware you removed the Planesona page for "Mainstream, non-furry and/or another fandom". Although I would be creating the page under the page for specifically Aeromorphs, these two are directly related (as they redirect lol) to eachother. I thought about just submitting a proposal but thought it would be most proactive to come to you first before I began to create the page. I would love to be able to discuss the possible creation for the page or the reason the planesona page was taken down previously. I am very very new (as in I just created this account to hopefully make that page lol) to Wikifur and editing wikis in general, so if I put this in the wrong place or you would have a place you prefer to have this conversation please let me know ^_^ - [[User:AER0SAUR|AER0SAUR]]

:Planesonas, Aeromorphs, or any type of [[anthro]] equipmentsona/techsona is not [[furry fandom]] related. We already had a similar issue when vegetable personas were discussed as viable [[Wikifur]] articles (in that case, [[W:Big Idea Entertainment|Big Idea Entertainment]]'s ''[[W:VeggieTales|VeggieTales]]''). The [[furry fandom]] only covers [[anthropomorphic]] [[animal]]s and some [[creatures]] ([[alien]]s, [[monster]]s, [[mermaid]]s, etc). [[W:Hasbro|Hasbro]] and [[W:Takara Tomy|Takara Tomy]]'s [[Transformers]] were allowed only for the [[Beast Wars]] angle (i.e. conversion to animal form, not Transformers with partial furry elements [[[ear]]s, [[tail]]s, [[paw]]s, other]), but pure mechanics ([[Disney's ''[[W:Planes (film)|Planes]]'' or ''[[W:Cars (franchise)|Cars]]'') do not qualify.

:This would open/lead to a slippery slope to add >anything< as anthro(Anthro Tylenol, Nivea, iPads/iPhones/iPods, et al)... That said, we do allow artists to add non-furry species on their own articles, as long as some pure [[furry]] data is in there (i.e., true [[Fursona|furry fursona]]s).

:This query comes about every five years, and the only change from the last one was (again) allowing a [[furry artist]] to have equipmentsonas in their personal articles, as long as "pure" furry connection to the fandom was present.

::I totally understand where you're coming from, but I disagree with the idea they aren't somewhat aligned with furry. A lot of this comes down to their anatomy, with prominent animal-like muzzles and tails. Some Aeromorphs, especially recently, have been even featured with digitigrade legs, paws, and even sometimes ears. It goes so far as artists having sometimes (really only recently from what I have seen) drawn them with fur or fully feral anatomy with mammal-like legs. While it is very common to see them with anatomy similar to a human (not that there aren't traditional fursonas proportioned similarly) I find they tend to look reminiscent to dragons with an airplane coat of paint, similar in concept to ''Dragon Pilot''. There are also quite a few Aeromorph fursuits like [https://x.com/ShagpokeStudios/status/1296612888753221637 Jazoray], [https://www.weasyl.com/~silversheep/submissions/1564242/fur4all-2017-normie-nomad-1 Normandy], and a few others on tiktok. If you look at a lot of the profiles of the people you see drawing Aeromorphs on things like deviantart, furrafinity, and other mainstream social medias, alongside it you can often find the artists are furries themselves or even tag their Aeromorphs under anthro or furry. Now I totally agree with you that Aeromorphs aren't explicitly ''furry'', and there are people in the community who I feel don't consider themselves as such. On the other hand though there are concepts on here like [[Therian]], or (this may be a stretch) [[werewolves]] that while not being a explicitly furry concept have a large enough overlap with the fandom to be included. Aeromorphs as of recent have also been gaining a lot of traction, with a lot more fursonas popping up around the species. There has been a huge resurgence leading to a lot of newer people to make characters just out of enjoyment of the unique concept for a fursona or just the history and community behind them. For a good example of this, looking up Aeromorph on [https://www.tumblr.com/search/aeromorph?src=recent_search Tumblr] gives a lot of examples of this new audience, notable by a cuter appearance and designs that are less anthropomorphic. A lot of these derive from the [[Airplane Dragon]] species (which is very similar to Aeromorphs, in my eyes being a subset of Aeromorph), but that is only the case for a few as there is a lot of Aeromorphs that are very separate from the species in design. Aeromorphs have a very interesting history and details with a lot of points of reference to be able to create a really interesting page, and have a large enough community around them to the point where I feel they can separate themselves from smaller more spread out anthropomorphized objects while having that strong tie to the community.

I just felt I should discuss why I think they fit and thought I would give it a shot because I would love to make a page about them :-).
