Creature Comforts (animation)

92.18.61.239: it happened, a long time ago...

:This page is about the animation. There is also a 1997 magazine article called Creature Comforts.

Creature Comforts is a Academy Award winning short made by Nick Park at Aardman Animations in 1990 before the Wallace and Gromit series. The basis of the show was that members of the British public were interviewed and then their voices characterised into talking animals which were then plasticine animated, leading to comical appearances.

The creatures reappeared later as part of an advertising campaign by Heat Electric, advertising the benefits of electrical heating. The popularity of the series, characters, and adverts led to a longer TV series of the same name (with the help of Richard ("Golly") Goleszowski, the creator of Robbie The Reindeer and Rex the Runt). The new series premiered on the British television network ITV in 2003.

The TV show was nominated for a BAFTA and won 2 awards at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, the Adult's Jury Award and the Children's Jury Award. The show also won a Audience Award from the Florida Film Festival.

The DVD of the new series was released in America on September 27, 2005. An even newer series aired on ITV, starting October 30, 2005.

Aberystwyth Furs, also known as AberFurs, is a regional furry group based in Aberystwyth, Wales, UK. In-person meets are run monthly, traditionally on the third Saturday of the month. The community was founded in 2018 due to a lack of furry community for the town, its university, and the surrounding area.

Aberystwyth Furs is a part of WelshFurs.

History
Pre-Covid
*AberFurs was founded initially as a Telegram chat by Zuki in early 2018, where the group existed in an online-only state until late 2019.
*The first official meet was held on November 16th 2019, with a small get together at the Aberystwyth Pier Arcade. There were three attendees.

*The second meet was held a month later, on December 14th, 2019. This included the first AberFurs fursuit walk, through the Aberystwyth Promenade. This meet had five attendees. Kitty WK and FedoraGoat joined the staff team. Small-scale furmeets continued until the 21st of March 2020, where events were suspended due to Covid-19.

During Covid
*AberFurs information was first added on the WikiFur WelshFurs page on April 23rd 2020.

*During COVID, online game meets took place on the AberFurs official Discord, including VRChat furmeets as well as Jackbox Games nights.

Post-Covid
*November 2021 - In-Person furmeets resume after Covid-19 Lockdown ends. Skuval and Maxii join the staff team and Patches steps down to focus on university studies.

*January 2022 - Patches reintroduced in staff to assist with moderating Discord and Telegram.

*September 2022 - Meets become consistent, monthy events. A relationship is formed with local venue The White Horse and meets start taking place there.

*January 2024 - Vendetta joins the staff team. AberFurs perform a social media push, creating Twitter and Instagram accounts and adding social media links to WelshFurs to boost visibility.

*April 2024 - The White Horse cancels AberFurs' booking with less than a day of notice, ending the relationship. Meets continue to take place over the summer on the beach.

Furball Run

The Furball Run, founded by AK and Jasper Foxx, is a non-profit two-way road trip from Maidstone services on the M20 in the UK via the Eurotunnel to Eurofurence in Germany, and has been held annually since 2008. Participants are known as "Furballers", and each driver choses a number for their vehicle (sometimes with a mysterious significance known only to them). Organisation of the event was handled by Jasper Foxx until 2012, when Ravell took over as organiser.

The outward and return journeys are both spread over two days with overnight stops. For the first two years of the run, when Eurofurence was held in Suhl, the return journey also included a trip to the Nürburgring, where the drivers involved could test out the speed of their vehicles on the track.

As of 2018, The Furball Run title and rights were handed to Motorfurs UK.

Furball Run Sticker Design
All Furball Run members are given a handbook, and can purchase a set of stickers that can be placed on their vehicle for the journey or kept as a memento. The design changes each year to make every Furball Run unique and memorable, and are sometimes designed to correspond to the Eurofurence theme.

Most of the artwork for the Furball Run has been designed and created by the co-founders and the artist Shadster. The main sticker design is based on the Gumball3000 design, in tribute to the famous motor sport event. Since 2009, there has been a secondary vehicle sticker. For 2009, the shape was based on a baseball flag, designed by AK. Even though the stickers proved tricky to place on the vehicles, they were favoured by many of the Furballers who participated.

For 2010, the Furball Run made its way to Eurofurence 16 at its new location, the Maritim Hotel Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany, where the convention's theme was 'Serengeti'. A corresponding theme of 'Safari' was chosen for the Furball Run design, with each driver being given a sticker customised with their own choice of vehicle number.

Proposed 2012 Time Trial
Because of the multiple driving styles and types of cars involved, the "convoy" had often ended up with individual cars racing on ahead, then having to wait at various stops along the way for the slower vehicles. In an attempt to keep the cars together and make it more of a group event, a "Time Trial" system was proposed for 2012. An average time travelling at 60mph was calculated for each section of the route. Each car would have been given a GPS data logger to record how long it took to complete each section, with "points" being gained or lost depending on how close the vehicle's time was to the calculated average. However, due to vocal opposition, this idea was later dropped.

2020 Revival
In 2018 the ownership of the Furball rally was passed to Motorfurs UK. There are plans underway for a 2020 revival with details to be announced in the near future. It is being organised by Mauzer
