82.43.209.107: Update and rearrange con list

Pippin (born 1974) is a fursuiter, user and server maintainer of Anthrochat, hacker (occasionally verging on serious programming), and system administrator from London, UK. His usual online self is a highly anthropomorphic bear (of a similar level of anthropomorphism as Rupert Bear) - or sometimes, depending on his whim, a highly zoomorphic bear, or, indeed, a teddy bear, or his fursuit character, Kelsey. He sometimes adds "Bear" to the end of his name, but normally only when it is required to avoid ambiguity, such as when "Pippin" has already been taken as a username -- he considers "Pippin" to be his full name. Unlike many bear characters, Pippin's species is not due to his real-life physical size.

Furry events attended
Pippin's first convention was Eurofurence 8 in 2002, where he was awed by several fursuiters but did not get to perform in a fursuit himself. In 2003 he attended Pawpet Megaplex 2, appearing in a (at the time, borrowed) Kelsey. By his next convention, Anthrocon 2003, he had bought Kelsey and become a committed fursuiter.

He has since attended Further Confusion 2004, Megaplex 3 and Midwest FurFest 2004 in 2004; Further Confusion 2005, Eurofurence 11 and Midwest FurFest 2005 in 2005; Further Confusion 2006, Anthrocon 2006 and Eurofurence 12 in 2006; and Eurofurence 13 in 2007.

Pippin has never attended local furmeets regularly, but has sporadically been seen at meets, and occasionally at NorthernFur meets in Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield. He also attended the RBW "meet plus" events in 2006 and 2007.

82.43.209.107:

Where's the actual article? All I have is a fantastic list of all the conventions you've been too/are going to. I only learn about you in the categories.--Kendricks Redtail 22:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

"(Pippin moved to Pippin Bear: Full name)" Actually I consider "Pippin" to be my full name. I only add "Bear" when I have to, usually where it's a username and "Pippin" has already been taken (depressingly often).

Anthrochat

AnthroChat is an IRC network which was founded by Simba in March 2004. It has nine servers (7 in the USA and 2 in the UK) as of January 2006, and has maintained an average of 300-350 users since its founding.

History
Portions of this section will probably be merged into a separate page detailing the FurNet/Anthrochat split.

Simba founded Anthrochat in response to the differences of opinion between himself and the administration of FurNet. In late 2003/early 2004, trolls, usually congregating in the channel #safurs, were dealt with by forcible disconnect. This quickly degenerated into a series of challenges to IRCop authority and subsequent network-wide bans of large swaths of users that were found objectionable by FurNet administration.

Simba, an IRCop of FurNet at the time, disagreed with this form of administration and argued for the right to freedom of speech on IRC. FurNet's administrators did not agree, Simba was removed from duty as an IRCop. FurNet administration published the FurNet Code of Conduct ("My freedom starts where your liberty stops").

Simba put out a call for volunteers to create a new, uncensored IRC network which became known as Anthrochat. Anthrochat's Mission Statement is essentially to be an unmoderated, uncensored medium where the IRCops' sole responsibility is to ensure the physical integrity of the network. Censorship, social mores, and personal tastes are relegated to the channel operators of individual channels, and no network-wide enforced decency standards or code of conduct exists. FurNet continues to enforce common decency standards, which some consider subjective to the views of the IRCops online making them at the time. To this day, feelings about the whole split are somewhat sore, and users typically identify with one network or the other, though some connect to both simultaneously.

Anthrochat presently runs a version of the UnrealIRCD server using Anope services. The change in codebase from what Furnet was using was received so positively, particularly because of the vhost feature that allows users to request customized hostmasks, that Furnet itself has mimiced Anthrochat's lead by instituting the same IRC daemon and services package.
