82.148.51.161: /* Attendance */

The London Furmeet is a local meet held in various parts of London for furs in the UK furry community known as the LondonFurs.

The meets are held on every third Saturday and have been held with few interruptions since 1999.

In addition, there are also weekly coffee meets, but these generally draw much smaller attendance.

London Furmeets are generally semi-open; anyone attending these meets is encouraged to get to know the UK furry community first through any one of several means.

Locations
From mid-to-late 1999 until early October 2000, the meets were held in The Devonshire Arms, London's premier Goth pub, in Camden Town. The group was, however, asked to leave as they had outgrown The Dev and, it is claimed, were "putting off" the regulars.

From late October 2000 until November 2003, the meets were held in the Jorene Celeste pub in Kentish Town. A change of management, followed by a steady decline in relations between the new management and the London Furs culminated in a bitter eviction in the middle of a meet.

The new location for the London Furmeets is the Ye Olde London pub (formerly The Bell Book and Candle until it was refurbished in mid 2005) which is close to St. Paul's Cathedral.

Attendance
Members have come from further afield than London, with many one-time or short-term attendances from furs from across the UK, as well as Germany, the Netherlands and the United States (because SlyCat was unable to attend for a time, the meet photographer for most of early 2004 was Vulpecula Threetail, an American student).

Current attendance figures are typically 30-60 members per meet, at least 10-20 of whom are from within 40 miles of Central London, meaning the Greater London area has almost as many furries per capita as parts of southern California!

Fixtures in the London Fur scene include Makali, SlyCat, Ultrafox, and AntiCarrot.

Media Appearances
The London Furs were featured in a documentary shown on the UK's Channel 4, under the title "Human Furry Animals," in 2000. It was one of the first early television documentaries to show furries in a positive light.

External links
* LondonFurs Homepage
* LondonFur events on Furmeets.co.uk
