ArtPlz

2005-08-17T23:25:16Z

80.235.131.239: /* The Present Site */

ArtPlz is an under construction art gallery that allows a wide range of subjects from illustrations, photograhy, stories and music, of any age rating or topic.

History
This site was Arcturus' response to the administration split at Fur Affinity between he and Jheryn Lightfoot. The separation was caused by a power-struggle between he and Jheryn over which user should be an administrator or not. Arcturus felt it necessary to de-admin Oz Kangaroo because, through his purported immaturity toward other users, Oz was not fulfilling his job of public relations and 'damage control' for Fur Affinity.

Jheryn's response was it was his site and he should be able to do what he wants with it. Arcturus, then owner of the server, officially terminated Fur Affinitiy on 1st August 2005, the domain repointed to another server to host discussion forums during its downtime. The old Fur Affinity server meanwhile was connected to the ArtFu.net domain and Arcturus posted that he would soon be opening a new art site himself.

The Change from ArtFu
ArtFu was quickly supported by many of Fur Affinity's ex-user base, hoping for a resume to service as soon as possible. However ArtFu simple posted up a forum and a LiveJournal and it was announced that the site would be coded from scratch with a brand new team of programmers.

One of the first pieces of controversy over the new site was its name. Artfu.com did exist and was also an small online art gallery. Both fans and opponents of ArtFu were quick to point out how this could easily destroy the other site or cause issues for both parties. Arcturus assured users that he had asked for permission from the other site if it was acceptable for them to coexist, however users were still unhappy with the perceived stubbornness of the administration team. Following the extensive outpouring, consultations and advice from other gallery administrators (such as the VCL's Ch'marr which can be seen here in the form of an open letter), it was announced a name change would take place.

On 9th August, the new name ArtPlz was announced on the forums and LiveJournal, over the next day a quick re-branding took place with the launch of a new Livejournal of the same name, the site was moved to artplz.com with the old address forwarding to it. The new logo as well was also applied to the two Livejournals and forum, and a new front page animation was made. The name was widely excepted by most users as an ironic phrase, the name referring to the common internet phenomenon of people requesting 'art plz' (art please) of characters in art and primarily adult art exchanges. Some users however felt it was a little degrading as a name for a place to show off good artwork, though these were considered a minority and the name has been finalised for launch.

The Present Site
As of 16 of August, the site now simply features the Flash containing the site logo and a progress bar indicating the progression of current work building the site. It also has links to a FAQ about the site, the IRC channel on WeyrSpace, the site forum which currently hosts both site development discussion and a temporary section of forums for users to post artwork to, and the new ArtPlz LiveJournal. It should be noted though that the ArtFu LiveJournal does remain in higher use currently since it is being used for development discussion, the administration team will begin using the ArtPlz once the site is launched.

There is no current time frame for the site launch. The programming team have been selected and are at work, however Arcturus will not be holding nominations for 'moderators' or 'staff' to run the site until close to the launch date. There is also no word on the expected design of the site, however it is expected to reflect Fur Affinity in terms of feature set if not more and promises to be faster and more secure than the previous site.

Arcturus is the dragon responsible for starting up and hosting a website which has a similar purpose to the now-offline FurAffinity site, which has been named ArtPlz. There are high hopes that this new site will bring all the freedom of expression and ease of use that made its predecessor so immensely popular, but without any of the problems that plagued it.

Who IS Arcturus?
Verix's Story
You know in being Arcturus's butt-buddy I've come to learn a few things about him. Oh man he's going to hate me for dispelling this stuff but dude, you have no idea, and I believe the community deserves to know!

Now as you all know, Arcturus is a dragon. He was well utilized in World War I for being a scare-tactic against the French, but was later discharged from the war, as the general realized it's too easy to scare the French. Arcturus was then hired by the American army to literally take a bite out of Germany-- unfortunately, he missed and bit the Automan Empire instead. What people don't tell you is that Arcturus is the actual reason that the Automan Empire fell, not any other crap, like that stuff about Franz Ferdinand or whatever you think you know about history!

In World War II, Arcturus was hired by the German armies to once again scare the French. However, they decided to keep him on board to make him appear more like one of the "horriffic scientific experiments" that they had been doing. They dressed Arcturus up in half-metal to make him look like a prototype for the jagdpanzer projects, then sent him to France to scare the shit out of people in weird hats eating horrible cheese. But when Einstein managed to make a machine that created a time-rift and therein assassinated Hitler, Arcturus was once again removed from duty of being a scary son-of-a-bitch.

The very first time Arcturus ever exploited anyone for money was actually directly after World War II-- he exploited the whole event! Trying to create the very first computer game and equally very first historical game, Arcturus went to work on Command and Conquer: Red Alert. He found Einstein to play himself and other actors to play out other roles. This project soon tanked, however, as Westwood Studios saw this and raped the fuck out of him. Then they stole the code.

Arcturus is now the head of security for Eurofurence, but only in the sense that he refuses to move from the castle that he's in right now. He is hiding from his war-time activities and equally his ability to exploit massive wars from the masses. This is to protect his identity, as even now, neo-Nazis are seeking him out as the last resort of worship to the leader they lost to science in the last great war.

So now you know all the dirty secrets about Arcturus. I hope you enjoy!

The 411
Arcturus lives in the town of Plymouth, in the United Kingdom (The country noted for it's tea drinking, bowler hat wearing and excessive apathy. He shares a house with another dragon, called Crimson, a furry artist (who is a raptor) called SpiritRaptor, a peculiar gryphon called Jon, and an excessively slutty fox, called Pete DarkFox.

His arch-nemesis seem to be a UKFur called KurtBatz, who seems to think he wanted to steal the UKFur.net forums from him. Suule from FurAffinity, among many others from that community, who hate him for his actions against FurAffinity and Jheryn.

He is also known to pretend to be a female online, in the guise of a blue and white, yellow-spotted dragoness. He also holds a large fascination with the overly large bosoms of Arshes Nei.

Move Your Dead Bones

2005-08-17T22:59:22Z

80.235.131.239:

Move Your Dead Bones is a techno song by the artist named Dr. Reanimator. Animated by Zarla and comically poking at the world of slash, this track was made popular by a music video entirely animated in Flash.

It was spread quickly thanks to a posting by Arcturus on his popular [LiveJournal] and from there, subsequent postings to fchan.

SheezyArt

2005-08-15T07:09:09Z

80.235.131.239:

SheezyArt is an art archive devoted to all types of art. However, after DeviantArt decided to more strictly define their lines of mature artwork and prohibit certain types of artwork from being included in the "top favorites" section (such as "anthropomoprhic"), SheezyArt became more popular among the furry community.

Of course, this popularity itself waned when SheezyArt followed suit, and placed a ban on adult artwork being displayed on SheezyArt.

Fur Affinity

2005-08-14T16:51:05Z

80.235.131.239:

FurAffinity was once the furry fandom's largest art gallery community, aside from the VCL. The entire site was shut down just prior to 1 August 2005 due to disagreements between Jheryn and Arcturus, the major moderators. It had suffered from major security holes and hacking in mid-2005.

What seperated FA from the much larger VCL was its ability to allow users to track their favorite artists through a "+ watch" function, track their favorite pictures with a "+ fav" feature, and allowed for the general feeling of a community with comment systems, journals, personalized "shells" to view the site in, and more.

There are current plans by Jheryn and Preyfar to bring FurAffinity back to its former glory, as a direct competitor to Arcturus' new site, ArtPlz!.
