FurFright

FurFright is a Halloween-themed anthropomorphic convention in Cromwell, Connecticut that was founded in 2003.

The con offers a full 3 days of attractions and programming for anthropomorphic/furry fans, and works to benefit animal and environmental charities.

History
FurFright was started in 2003 by Belic Bear and K'gra Leopard as a one day mini-convention, which took place at a cabin in Middletown, Connecticut. Originally 30-50 attendees were anticipated, but more than 160 people registered, and the event turned into an annual convention. FurFright, now in its 10th year, hosts 1500 attendees from all over the world.

FurFright has been held at the Falcon's Grove at Crystal Lake in Middletown, CT (2003); The Sheraton Bradley Hotel in Windsor Locks, CT (2004-06); The Holiday Inn Waterbury in Waterbury, CT (2007-09); and currently resides at the Crowne Plaza Cromwell in Cromwell, CT (2010-present).

In 2007 FurFright hosted a total of 717 attendees. In 2008 FurFright had 873 attendees, making it the 5th most attended anthropomorphic/furry convention in the world. It retained this position in 2009, with 979 attendees. Due to the constant growth of the convention, and a desire to preserve the intimate, social feel their attendees desire, FurFright instituted a 1500 person attendance cap in 2011.

Current location and timeslot
In 2010, FurFright moved to The Crowne Plaza in Cromwell, Connecticut.
Lakeside Furs is a furry summer convention in Austria. The first cons took place at Grundlsee, a mountain lake in Salzkammergut, Upper Styria. The purpose of the convention is to have a relaxing time in a beautiful landscape and come together in a personal atmosphere. As there is no strict separation between organizers and guests, everyone is invited and expected to participate and help.

Lakeside Furs 2007
Lakeside Furs 2007 was held from 20 to 22 July 2007 at the Grundlsee Youth & Family Guesthouse with 20 participants. Dinner and breakfast were provided by the hotel, a T-shirt was designed by Dewo.

The program included an art show with art by Dranenk, fursuit presentations by Nubi, campfires/barbecue, swimming in the lake and hiking to the Toplitzsee. Lakeside Furs 2007 was co-organized by Dranenk (webmaster), Meshiska (location discoverer and pet coordinator), unci (registration and hotel contact) and Yukon (program coordinator).

Lakeside Furs Underwater 2007
An underwater edition of Lakeside Furs was held from 31 August to 2 September at the same location. Included was a 1-day diving course, with all material provided by the diving school, as well as a campfire, a trip to Bad Aussee, a late night hike and lots of snuggling. Lakeside Furs Underwater 2007 had 10 participants (one of them only for one night).

Lakeside Furs 2008
The participants of LSF 2007 agreed that it would be desirable to extend the con by one day in the next year. It took place from 24 to 27 July 2008 at the same location with a maximum capacity of 40 furries. The price was 100 € per participant (3 nights with dinner and breakfast, plus one barbecue and drinks), among the events was a fursuit workshop.

Lakeside Furs 2009
Lakeside Furs 2009 as held from 6th to 9th August 2009 at the JUFA Seckau. Lizkay and Suzi Dragonlady were guests of honour (even though they did not have time to stay during the whole con) and held a SIG one afternoon. Other events were barbecues and a hike to the Maria Schnee pilgrimage church, as well as a fursuit walk at the Seckau Abbey and swimming in a nearby lake.

Lakeside Furs 2010
LSF 4 was held in a self-catering house "Pension Stoffenhof" from 31st July to 7th August and extended to a whole week. The location is in a former inn near Zell am See, Salzburg state, Austria. This time, various outdoor events were held, such as a visit to the ice caves of Werfen and a steam train ride on the Pinzgau narrow gauge railway. The con fee for 7 nights including food (but without optional excursions) was 160 €.

Lakeside Furs 2011
LSF 5 was held in the same location as 2010, and ran for a week, from July 30 to August 6. The con fee of 140 € included meals. We did a fursuit walk at the shore of the Zeller See, a hike around the Weißsee and visited the Lamprechtshöhle.

Lakeside Furs 2012
LSF 6 was in the Stoffenhof again, August 11 - 18. Con fee remained the same at 140 €. We visited the Schmittenhöhe and the Vorderkaserklamm, some went hiking to the Hundstein or drove to the Großglockner. The theme was "The furries of Düsterwald". For the first time our house was booked out at 44 participants.

Lakeside Furs 2013
Lakeside Furs 7 will be from 20 to 27 July 2013 in the same location as the years before. The con fee is 140 € (plus 10 € for heating if necessary due to cold weather). As usual the con lasts a week, but shorter visits are also possible. Registration will open in January 2013. The theme will be "Space Furs / Furries im Weltall".
Eurofurence
Eurofurence (commonly also EF) is the biggest furry convention outside the United States and the longest-running furry convention in the world. It was founded in 1995, and Eurofurence 17 in Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany had 1066 attendees.fact

It is typically held in summer and located in various places of Germany, but it has seen other countries as well, notably Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. Eurofurence 12 was held at the same venue as the Eurofurence 11, and Eurofurence 15 marked a return to the Ringberg Hotel in Suhl, Thuringia for the third and final year in succession. Since Eurofurence 16 in 2010, the convention has been held at the Maritim Hotel in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Eurofurence and the Mephit Mini Con share some lighting equipment and art panels for the sake of economy, but are not officially related.

Programming
Since Eurofurence 12, Eurofurence has run five days from Wednesday to Sunday. Early arrival and late departure options are offered for those who want to stay another night or two. There are several main events that are held every year, often on the same day and time each year.

The convention traditionally begins with a barbecue held outside on the convention premises. During this barbecue the convention is then officially opened in an opening ceremony hosted by Cheetah, where the attendees are introduced to the staff. In the opening ceremony, the main events of the convention are announced, along with other important points such as rules of conduct and other safety notices.

On one evening, Uncle Kage and 2, The Ranting Gryphon get together to present Uncle Kage vs. 2. It is a combination of Uncle Kage's Story Hour and a comedy performance by 2, either performed in sequence or with each taking turns. At Eurofurence 17, 2 could not attend, so the event was changed to only a story hour for that year. Kage "compensated" for that by doing impressions of 2 on stage.

The pawpet show is usually the closing event of Eurofurence, in the absence of a real closing ceremony. It is a furry handpuppet performance, written, produced and performed by a mixed crew of Eurofurence staff and attendees. It is written as a feature-length stage show, mixing comedy and drama, with music, added sound effects, spcial effects and more recently also prerecorded video footage inserted between the scenes. The Big Blue Dance follows the pawpet show and is the last event of the convention. It is a dance event held in the main dance hall by BigBlueFox and other DJs, and often continues throughout the night. Light effects, live mixed background animations and other atmospheric effects are also present.

On the final (departure) day of the convention, a Dead Dog Party is held for those who want to relax and wind down while preventing post-con depression. In earlier years, a group photo of all those attending the convention was taken on Sunday morning. However, it was moved to Saturday morning as many congoers were not able to get out of bed so early after the Big Blue Dance the previous night. It also posed problems for people wanting to depart early in the morning, who had to miss the photo.

Art and merchandise
For the duration of the con, the dealer's den is available for attendees to sell merchandise of varying sorts. Since Eurofurence 17, two dealer's dens have been available, as the single one could no longer handle the demand.

There is also an art show, where attendees can look around for art and perhaps make bids for pieces they would like. About half-way through the convention, the art show is closed and the art auction is held to sell the pieces to the highest bidders. The auction is conducted by Uncle Kage.

Fursuiting
There are several events and other facilities for fursuiters. There is always a headless lounge available, which is an area that only fursuiters can enter where they can freely un-suit and relax. The lounge is normally full of fans and other cooling equipment to help the fursuiters cool off. During most of the convention there is also a fursuit photoshoot, where fursuiters can have pictures of their fursuits taken by a professional photographer.

On the main stage, the fursuit gameshow is held, in which teams in fursuits compete in several challenges. The challenges are often made with the difficulties of wearing a fursuit in mind, but sometimes they take advantage of this to provide a challenge unique to fursuiters, such as balancing objects on one's muzzle.

Finally, a fursuit group photo is traditionally taken on Saturday, followed by the fursuit parade which fursuiters and non-fursuiters alike are invited to participate in. Since fursuit attendance has been steadily rising over the years (reaching 400 in 2011), the parade is now held entirely outside, and in Eurofurence 17 the parade took place in the city streets of Magdeburg.

EF Prime
EF Prime is a tv channel which broadcasts an information and entertainment during Eurofurence on the internal hotel TV system. It launched in 2007 during EF 13, and airs information about EF-related events and hotel facilities. In between, it shows furry and furry-related shorts, clips and shows as well as clips that aren't furry related, yet popular among the fandom.

At EF 17, EF Prime got its own mascot, a computer generated wolf named Spikey Wolf. He was introduced in a video parody of Eminem's "My name is" and is voiced by Shay. Spikey highlighted the days timetable on EF prime on daily base and also provided in numerous quotes during live events.

Responsible for EF Prime are:
* BigBlueFox (program schedule, content management, on-air design)
* Kralle (IT-planning, hardware, software)

Daily Eurofurence
The Daily Eurofurence is a newspaper published during Eurofurence, reporting all kinds of events on the prior day. The 'newspaper' consists of various articles, some cartoons, an occasional cross-word puzzle and the updated time-table for the convention.

History
The Eurofurence has been held in the following places over the years:

{| class="wikitable"
Themes
Eurofurence 8 was the first Eurofurence convention to have a specific theme. The theme is represented in the art and signs displayed in public and in some events such as the pawpet show. There are also often events specific to the theme, such as at Eurofurence 17 which had a Tai Chi panel and a martial arts performance to go with its Chinese theme.
Organization
Eurofurence 1 was first organized in 1995 by Tes-Tui-H'ar and unci, neither of whom are now involved with running the convention. In 1997, Sven "Cheetah" Tegethoff, took over as convention chairman of Eurofurence 3 and has chaired nearly every Eurofurence since then. Eurofurence 4 was organized and financed by Samarindus, who found a location for the 1998 convention in the Netherlands with the help of Naros.

Later in 1998, Eurofurence e.V. was registered as a social organization in Germany to operate the convention annually from Eurofurence 5 in 1999 to the present day. However, it is not limited to any specific location, and has many international members among its staff and members. Since 2009, Eurofurence e.V. has their own flags, banners and posters with the logo.

Current staff
For Eurofurence 13 (2007), the core members of convention staff, and their areas of responsibility, were as follows:

* Cheetah — Chairman, Programming Director
* Nightfox — Vice Chairman, Consite Relations
* Loewi — Chief Financial Officer
* BigBlueFox — Web Design, Director Video and Hotel TV
* AkiRaccoon — Lead Gopher
* Cairyn — Director Art Show, Con Book Editor
* Gyroplast — Director Dealers' Den
* EosFoxx — Guest of Honour Relations
* Jaryic — Lead Stage Crew
* Jumpy — Lead Registration Team
* Mystifur — Lead Fursuit Support
* o'wolf — Media Relations
* Riffuchs — Lead Onsite Logistics
* Gyroplast — Director Security
* Tigerseye — Vice Lead Fursuit Support

Whilst these are the "key" members of staff, there are many more volunteers helping to make the convention a success by doing such tasks as leading events, setting up the stage and art show, teardown and pretty much anything else that needs doing.

Quotes and trivia
* "Anthrocon may be the biggest fur convention in the world, but Eurofurence is the best." — Uncle Kage, EFX (2004)

* "EF kicks ass! In Fact there is not enough ass in the entire US for this con to kick!" — Uncle Kage, EF 12 (2006)

* "I am chairman of the largest furry convention in the world, but I personally believe that the best furry convention is right here." — Uncle Kage, EF 13 (2007)

* "I command three of the largest hotels, in one of the largest cities in the USA. I would trade all of them away for one Ringberg." (a.k.a. "Goodbye, Ringberg Hotel") — Uncle Kage, EF 15 (2009)

* "This is our second year in the Maritim hotel. And with 1066 registration we are officially booked out." — Nightfox, EF 17 (2011)

* "...additional notice. We would like to ask you: to NOT fursuit in the pool. The filters clogged up with fur and water overflowed in to other areas. And although the hotel manager though it was very cool. We still have to ask you to not do this." — Nightfox, EF 17 (2011)

* "The past week has been a wild ride for the reg team - during first 6 days, we have received nothing short of 1150 registration requests - which once again marks a new record in EF history." — Cheetah, pre-EF18 (2012)
