Jay Ward and his assistant Alex Anderson created Bullwinkle for The Frostbite Falls Review, a storyboard idea which was never developed into a series. They gave him the name "Bullwinkle" after Clarence Bullwinkel, a car dealer, because they thought it was a funny name. Both Bullwinkle and Rocky were given the middle initial "J" in reference to Ward.
Bullwinkle shares a home with his best friend Rocket J. A rat is a species of long-tailed rodent. The most commonly known species is the black rat (Rattus rattus). Rats are chosen by furries for many reasons. Some have had them as pets. In Chinese culture, rats are considered creative, honest, generous, ambitious, quick tempered and wasteful. Some Indian beliefs believe that rats are destined to be reincarnated as holy men. Some rat furries are merely fans of the book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH or the related animated movie.
PluckyFox (or Plucky as he's commonly known; born October 9th, 1989) is a red fox, UKFur, and a soon-to-be fursuiter.

PluckyFox first became a part of the fandom in around 2005, although he has always had a very strong love for foxes in general. He first became aware of other UK furries when he was directed to their homepage by a group of furs on SecondLife. Since then, he has attended regular meets and recently begun attending small, local conventions.

Character
Plucky's name is often thought to have been taken from the character "Plucky Duck", a character in the cartoon show Tiny Toon Adventures, when in fact both his name and character are based off a young fox from The Animals of Farthing Wood series. He has since then made minor additions such as long, black hair that runs down the back of his head, a small fur pattern change and has generally given the character a complete anthropomorphic appearance.

His personality does have some relevance to his chosen name; he's a very perky sort of person most the time, is pretty playful and loves to act silly when he can.

Fursuit
Plucky's fursuit is still currently (July 2007) in the process of construction. Being his first suit, he decided to start off with a partial; currently owning the legs, arms, paws, and tail. He is still awaiting the head, which should hopefully be completed in early September. All his commissions have been to the fursuit maker Joecifur.

Pinky and the Brain were two Mice characters from Animaniacs who later spun off into their own show also called Pinky and the Brain. A second spin-off, Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain, was unsuccessful.

Overview
The two characters are white laboratory mice intent on taking over the world, although this is more the ambition of The Brain rather than his associate Pinky.

The running joke of the series was that their plans would almost succeed, but a slight flaw or mistake would suddenly cause the plans to backfire, and so the duo would return home to devise another plan. This plot was used for both Animaniacs and the spinoff series, but Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain relocated the characters to the home of Elmyra Duff, where they were forced to take over the world whilst dealing with the heavy-handed Elmyra and a stalker who was attempting to kidnap them.

Characters
*Pinky - A tall, slim mouse with limited intelligence. Pinky occasionally has some good ideas, but his concentration is slim, and he seems to prefer entertaining himself. He still follows Brain loyally, even if he is a bit of a clutz.

*The Brain - A super-intelligent mouse voiced in an Orson Welles-type voice by Maurice LaMarche. The Brain concocts all of the plans to take over the world, but claims to do so for benevolent reasons rather than simply trying to benefit only himself.

*Billie - A female mouse voiced by Tress MacNeille. Billie first appeared in the Animaniacs episode The World Can Wait, when Brain developed a crush on her. Billie's attention was quickly caught by Pinky, who Billie adored. After becoming super-intelligent herself, Brain dumped her, hoping to take over the world before Billie could. Billie returned for only two more episodes of Pinky and the Brain, both of which she is trying to seperate Pinky from the Brain and claim Pinky for herself.

*Snowball the Hamster - A super-intelligent hamster and rival of Brain. His ties to Brain are highly reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and Prof. Moriarty, with Snowball attempting to conquer the world purely so he will remain the most powerful being on Earth. He was also a rival for Billie's affections, but she quickly turned him down in Brain Noir.

*Phar Fig Newton - A female racehorse who is incredibly stupid. She is also Pinky's girlfriend, and first appeared in the Animaniacs episode Jockey for Position. She had limited appearances on the spinoff show, usually just as a photograph in Pinky's cage. Her name is a pun on Ffarfignuten, as well as the racehorse Phar Lag, who sponsored Fig Newtons.
Howard the Duck

75.71.129.231:

Howard the Duck is a cult classic Marvel Comics comic book character created by Steve Gerber in 1973 and star of several comic book series of the same name about the misadventures of an ill-tempered anthropomorphic duck from a funny animal version of Earth now trapped on our Earth. Howard generally wears a tie and shirt, and is almost always found smoking a cigar. Like many cartoon ducks, he originally wore no pants until Disney threatened legal action due to Howard's resemblance to Donald Duck.

The Comics
Howard's adventures are generally parodies of science fiction and fantasy, written in a tongue-in-cheek style and combined with a degree of metafictional awareness of the limitations of the medium, often very experimental for a non-underground comic.

Howard's first appearance was in the comic book Adventure into Fear #19, as a secondary character to the Man-Thing story. He would return in Giant-Size Man-Thing and eventually earn his own comic book title in 1976. A newspaper strip was attempted from 1977 to 1978, but failed to gain any popularity.

Howard's plug was pulled in 1978 when Gerber, who had gained a degree of creative autonomy, clashed over issues of creative control, and Gerber was abruptly removed from the series.
Howard would return briefly in 1979 and 2001 in short-lived runs that lasted only a few issues each and was last seen in Civil War: Choosing Sides #1 (Feb. 2006).

The Movie
In 1986, a feature film was created, produced by George Lucas and starring Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, Tim Robbins, and Chip Zien as the voice of Howard. Howard himself was portrayed by an assortment of stunt actors in a duck suit. The only characters brought over from the comics were Howard and his sidekick/girlfriend Beverly Switzler, played by Lea Thompson. The film was widely panned and was a box office bomb, winning the 1987 Razzie Awards for Worst New Star, Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay and Worst Visual Effects. This caused George Lucas who was heavily in debt at the time to sell to Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Computer, Lucasfilm's newly-launched CGI animation division for a price well above market value. That division eventually become Pixar Animation Studios.

Daffy Duck is a fictional cartoon duck who is one of the principal characters in Looney Tunes. He first featured in Porky's Duck Hunt (1937), where he is depicted as a slightly anthropomorphic duck. This model would later change as the character was trimmed down and made more anthropomorphic.

History
Creation
Daffy was created by Tex Avery, who was responsible for several other over-the-top cartoons of the 1940's, including Screwball Squirrel. At first, Daffy was wild, hyperactive and eccentric in the traditional Tex Avery manner, and became a hit with audiences everywhere.

Chuck Jones era
In the 1950's, as Bugs Bunny began to rise in fame, Chuck Jones took over Daffy's stories. Daffy was placed in parodies of existing pop culture, including 1952's Duck Dodgers, in which Daffy portrays the eponymous hero, a parody of space-hero Buck Rogers. These stories often featured Porky Pig as his faithful sidekick. Daffy's personality itself was remodelled into a scheming and greedy character, oftentimes jealous of the rabbit stealing his spotlight and determined to regain his old glory. This would lead him to be often cast as a fall guy for Bugs, and eventually Daffy took a turn as the villain for Speedy Gonzales in the 1970's.

Films and television
Daffy has been the star of two films:
*Daffy Duck's Fantastic Island (1983)
*Daffy Duck's Quackbusters (1988)
Both of these films were simply compilations of earlier cartoons with a simple plot created to connect them altogether.

Daffy also made a cameo in the movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, as a piano duet with Disney's Donald Duck.

Daffy also appeared in Space Jam in 1996 and Looney Tunes: Back in Action in 2003. The latter film was also the first "cartoon" since the 1930's to portray Daffy in a sympathetic light rather than concentrate on his greedy side. Daffy's glory-seeking is explained in one scene, where he complains that he works tirelessly and still fails to achieve what Bugs does without even trying.

Daffy's Duck Dodgers role, having achieved a popular following, was eventually turned into a series in 2003, and ran for three series in over two years. Bugs Bunny did not appear in the film, but the series did include a number of cameos by various other Looney Tunes characters.

75.71.129.231: /* Animaniacs and furry fandom */

Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs (1993 to 1996) was the second animated series produced by the collaboration of Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation during the animation renaissance of the 1990s. The studio's first series, Tiny Toon Adventures, had proved to be a big hit among younger viewing audiences, and it had attracted a sizable number of adult viewers as well. Tiny Toon Adventures had drawn heavily from the classic Termite Terrace cartoons of old for inspiration, as well as plots and characterization. The modern Warner Bros. writers and animators used the experience gained from the previous series to create brand new animated characters that were cast in the mold of Tex Avery's and Bob Clampett's creations, but were not slavish imitations.

Animaniacs premiered on September 13, 1993. New episodes of the show were aired during the 1993 through 1998 seasons, and episodes of the show were rerun in syndication for several years after production of new episodes ceased. One feature-length direct-to-video Animaniacs movie, Wakko's Wish, was released on VHS only (there was no DVD release) in 1999. The series was popular enough for Warner Bros. Animation to invest in additional episodes of the show past the traditional 65-episode marker for syndication; a total of 99 episodes were finally produced. One theatrical cartoon short film starring the Warner siblings, "I'm Mad," was produced and released to theaters in 1994 with the feature Thumbelina.

Popularity of Animaniacs
While episodes of the show did have their share of flops (the Hip Hippos especially, followed mostly by Chicken Boo and Katie Ka-Boom), a surprisingly high number of well-written, outrageously funny cartoons were aired during the series, as the new madcap Warner Bros. animators merrily poked fun at everything and everyone, including their own fans ("The Please Please Pleese Get A Life Foundation", which directly took from the alt.tv.animaniacs FAQ for its material). <!-- That "pleese" is correct here, it was spelled that way on screen. -->

While the show was very popular among younger viewers (the target demographic for Warner Bros.' TV cartoons), a great deal of the show's sly, subversive humor was definitely aimed at an adult audience. In fact, one character, Minerva Mink, was soon deemphasized as a feature character on account that her featured episodes were considered too sexually suggestive for the show's intended timeslot. Adults responded in droves, giving the show cult-hit status and leading to one of the first Internet-based fandom cultures. During the show's prime, the Internet newsgroup alt.tv.animaniacs was an active, popular gathering place for fans of the show (most of whom were definitely adults) to discuss the latest antics of the Warner Brothers and the Warner Sister. The online popularity of the show did not go unnoticed by the show's producers, and several of the most active participants on the newsgroup were invited to the Warner Bros. Animation studios for informal get-togethers.

Reputation and legacy
The show introduced the popular cartoon characters Pinky and the Brain, who were subsequently spun-off into their own TV series in 1995.

Animation fans consider Animaniacs the high point of the Warner Bros. revival of the 1990s that was inspired by the original Termite Terrace. After Animaniacs, Spielberg collaborated with Warner Bros. Animation for a third time to produce the short-lived series Freakazoid, along with the Animaniacs spin-off series Pinky and the Brain. Warner Bros. also produced two additional "zany" and "madcap" series in the later half of the decade entitled Histeria! (much like Animaniacs, but focusing on American history) and Detention (an animated sitcom of several quirky junior high kids trying to get out of after-school holding), but neither of these series found a sizable audience, and they were both swiftly cancelled. Warner Bros. cut back the size of its animation studio (the high cost and relatively low profit of its animated feature films of the period also had an effect on the studio), and production on further Warner Bros. animated comedy series ceased. Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures continued to rerun in syndication through the 1990s into the early 2000s. In 2005, it was removed from the NickToons network, and is not currently airing on TV in the states, but in the United Kingdom, it currently airs on Boomerang.

Animaniacs and furry fandom
At the peak of its popularity (especially during the first and second seasons), Animaniacs was wildly popular among furry fans, and its popularity spilled over into the fandom. Many of the denizens of alt.tv.animaniacs were furry fans, and they expressed their enjoyment of the show in true furry fashion: through fan artwork, fan fiction, and furry role-playing. Many characters from the show were imitated on FurryMUCK, from the Warner Bros. and Warner Sister to Pinky and the Brain. (Even Slappy Squirrel made an appearance on the MUCK!)

In addition to MUCK characters, many members of the newsgroup also gathered on IRC, leading to the birth of the #watertower IRC community.

Animaniacs on DVD
Warner Bros. has announced Animaniacs may be released on DVD in the summer of 2006:

Music
Animaniacs was a very musical cartoon, with every episode featuring an original score (and in many cases, several original songs). Each group of characters had its own sub-theme in the score, and the Hip Hippos and Pinky and the Brain even had their own full theme songs.

The three Warner siblings often performed songs, including parodies of classical and folk music, often with an educational twist, listing, for example, U.S. states or American presidents. Pinky and the Brain occasionally got songs to sing as well, and the most complicated songs in the series usually went to Rita, voiced by singer Bernadette Peters (poking fun at Broadway shows in general, and Stephen Sondheim's works in particular). Rita and Runt even took on Broadway directly with a parody of Les Misérables called Les Miseranimals, which aired early in the first season.

Three albums of music from the series were released: Animaniacs, Yakko's World, and Variety Pack, and the sing-along videos, especially "Yakko's World", remained some of the best selling skit compilation VHS tapes.

The final bars of the Animaniacs theme (as well as Bugs Bunny and the WB shield) are commonly used by Warner Bros. to begin various animated series.

The song Yakko's World is perhaps their most famous.

Darkwing Duck is an Emmy-nominated American animated television series spin-off from the hit series DuckTales produced by Disney Company that ran from 1991 to 1992 on Saturday mornings on ABC. It featured a superhero anthropomorphic duck with the alter ego of Drake Mallard. Darkwing Duck is largely regarded as an affectionate satire on superhero mythos and lore, some obvious, some subtle, and others quite witty. Darkwing's character and gimmicks are all direct references to pulp heroes such as the Crimson Avenger, The Shadow, and The Green Hornet. The fictional city of St. Canard and Darkwing's rogues gallery reflect Batman influences. The show bears many other references to Batman as well. The show ran on syndication on Toon Disney through 2004 before being pulled, but returned on January 19, 2007.
Teeny Toon Admixtures (commonly known as Teeny Toons) were a set of comics drawn from 1993 to 1995 by Donotsue. The characters and settings were mostly spoofs of Warner Brothers' Tiny Toon Adventures, although other characters from various cartoon series made appearances at one time or another. The comics were not intended for children.
Warner Bros. was founded in 1903 by the brothers Warner: Harry Warner, Albert Warner, Sam Warner and Jack L. Warner. Eventually animators such as Jack King and Friz Freleng, Tex Avery signed on, creating the legendary Termite Terrace. The group would produce Looney Tunes until 1969 when it closed its doors until 1980. In 1980, Warner Bros. Animation reopened to produce films and television specials starring the Looney Tunes characters. In 1990, they moved to regular TV with the furry favorite Tiny Toon Adventures and later the other popular Animaniacs.

75.71.129.231:

A duck is a waterfowl of the taxonomic family Anatidae. "Duck" is often thought of as a unisex term, however males are scientifically classified as a drake, and females as a hen.

The most well-known ducks are the mallard duck and the domestic "white" American Pekin. Wood ducks, noted for their striking eyes and feather patterns closely follow.

Ducks as characters
Disney's Donald Duck could possibly be the best known duck character. Indeed, Carl Barks' influence can be seen on the design of just about any duck character created after 1934. Donald Duck received a revival in the Disney Television Animation production Quack Pack, pairing him with his nephews (Huey, Dewey and Louie), as well as his sweetheart Daisy. He can also be spotted as Mickey Mouse's second-banana in the Saturday morning series House of Mouse, currently being re-run on the Toon Disney cable network.

Another well-known Disney duck character is Darkwing Duck, created in 1991 and based on a slightly different character model.

Hanna-Barbera's productions included a few duck characters, such as Yakky Doodle. Yakky made his debut in an episode of Augie Doggie & Doggie Daddy (one of the back segments of Quick Draw McGraw's show) that aired early in 1960. When, on January 30, 1961, Yogi Bear got his own show, Yakky had a segment on it.

Yakky's main antagonist was Fibber Fox, voiced by Daws Butler (Huckleberry Hound, Cap'n Crunch). Butler was also the voice of Alfy Gator, a second-string villain in Yakky's series. As a plausible way to keep Yakky from getting eaten every time he appeared, they gave him a pal and protector, Chopper, a friendly but formidable bulldog, voiced by Vance Colvig (son of Pinto "Goofy" Colvig).

Yakky wasn't a superstar, but got big enough to support a little merchandising, including a oneshot comic book from Gold Key, which came out in 1962. That same year, the Yogi Bear show went out of production, after 32 episodes, and went into endless reruns. After that, Yakky's fate was that of most Hanna-Barbera characters — appearances now and then on ensemble shows like Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-Lympics, just to keep his trademark from lapsing.

Yakky is seldom seen anymore, except in reruns. But he's still well known. Jimmy Weldon, now a motivational speaker, still carries Webster Webfoot around for his speaking engagements, and still does the Yakky Doodle voice as part of the act.

Harvey Comics and cartoons also had Baby Huey, the vitamin-enhanced baby duck taller than his own mother.

Warner Brothers' Tex Avery introduced Daffy Duck to audiences in 1937, co-starring with Porky Pig in Porky's Duck Hunt. Over the next ten years, Daffy morphed in to the ill-tempered, yet strangely loveable fowl theatre audiences came to know.

Chuck Jones brought a new era of Daffy to viewers during the period of 1954-57 (known as "The Greedy Bastard Years"), making greed and stardom Daffy's main objectives. This was also the time period Daffy was first paired with Bugs Bunny, beginning a love/hate relationship that continues today in new merchandise, television appearances and movies (see Looney Tunes: Back In Action, 2003 theatrical release).

1964-67 saw Warner Brothers' animation department fizzle out, becoming DePatie-Freleng Enterprises (as in David H. DePatie and Friz Freleng). Daffy was paired with the unlikely Speedy Gonzales. The cartoons, surprisingly, has amazing popularity in the Southwest.

The few duck characters in the furry fandom tend to borrow from all aspects of the famous fowl listed above, however a direct comparison to any specific artist/writer (Barks, Clampett, Hanna-Barberra) would be unfair not only to the furry fandom artist, but also to the artist being compared to.
Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walking on two legs, and wearing clothing.
<br><br>
Characters that morph between human and animal form are also considered by some to be part of the genre. Even certain superheroes with animal derived powers are considered of furry interest by some fans. The general idea being a combination of human and animal attributes, for which there is no documented science regarding what degrees of mixture are required.
<br><br>
Even Josie And The Pussycats are considered of interest to furry fandom, though the characters only wear costumes with animal ears and tails.
<br><br>
Furry creativity
Because the furry genre is widely considered to be a children’s market, there is a considerable lack of furry entertainment specifically geared to adult aged audiences. The community of mostly adult aged furry fans that has formed around the genre is particularly dedicated to filling the need for such products through fan creativity.

Content available from furry fans on the internet and at conventions covers a wide range of interests, including all manner of fantasy, philosophy, sex, politics, religion and lifestyle.

The genre is considered to be so versatile that it can extend into just about any form of creativity, from things as simple as recipe books with anthropomorphic illustrations to technical creations as complicated as interactive furry companions for your desktop. Other forms of furry craftsmanship include the creation of flash animation and fursuits.

But by far the most prolific output of furry fandom is artwork. Furry artwork produced by the fandom ranges from basic cartooning to highly detailed works fit for hanging in galleries. Furry artists also create a wide variety of comic strips. The subject matter of this artwork being as flexible as any other area of the furry arts, ranging from innocent depictions of cute furry character suitable for all ages, to mature works that are age restricted.

The furry genre
Definition
The furry genre is based on the idea of fantasy animal characters, rather than any one type of fiction. Any title in any form of media can be considered relative to the furry genre simply by having a fantasy animal character in it. Such characters are most often seen in cartoons, comics, science fiction, allegorical novels, Gothic horror movies, commercials and video games.

Outside the fandom, the most common term used to describe such characters is anthropomorphic. Those within the fandom prefer the term furry - hence the name furry fandom. Other terms for these types of characters are funny animal, talking animal, or kemono in Japan, although each of these has subtle differences in meaning.

History
: See article: History (of Furry fandom)
The genre itself may be as old as civilization. Anthropomorphic animal characters are found in the art of many ancient cultures. Anthropomorphic characters from Egyptian mythology continue to this day to be a source of inspiration to furry artists. The earliest example of furry literature commonly cited by furry fans is Aesop’s Fables, which date to around 500 BC. Furry characters then continued to proliferate through the ages in the form of folk tales, many of which are a common part of our modern culture.

It is not until the 1800’s that more specifically documented examples of the furry genre can be chronicled. And they are seen appearing in a variety of different forms of entertainment. These include the earliest author credited animal related fairytales by Hans Christian Anderson in 1836, the poem The Owl And The Pussycat by Edward Leer in 1871, Lewis Carroll’s fantasy novel Alice In Wonderland in 1865, Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake in 1875, Beatrix Potter’s illustrated children’s books in 1890, Rudyard Kipling’s collection of talking animal stories The Jungle Book in 1894, H. G. Wells’ 1896 novel The Island Of Doctor Moreau was the first appearance of intelligent animals in science fiction, and the first appearance of anthropomorphic animals in comic strips was James Swinnerton’s The Little Tigers in 1895.

Once the comic strip had been introduced, anthropomorphic characters quickly became almost synonymous with that art form. Comic strips would become known as The Funnies, and animals in comic strips would become known as Funny Animals.

The term “Funny Animals” soon spread beyond comic strips and into the realm of illustrated children's books. Authors such as Palmer Cox, Laura Rountree Smith and Neil Wayne Northey not only referred to their anthropomorphic characters as “Funny Animals,” they also referred to them collectively as “the furry folk” and “furry friends.”

The term “Furry” has since remained in the background of animal related fantasy. Particularly in the English folk culture scene. As late as 1978, bands like Genesis and Jethro Tull were still using this furry folk terminology to refer to anthropomorphic animals in their songs.

In 1976, Furry Folk also became the name of a popular line of animal puppets. From that time, the term “Furry” has gradually gained popularity as an alternative to the term “Funny Animals,” as it does not carry a connotation of humor, and it is inclusive of all fantasy animals, not just the ones that walk upright and wear clothes. The term has today reached such prominent use that it is not unheard of for reviewers to refer to the characters in such films as Over The Hedge as “Furries.”

The furry genre was firmly established by the start of the 20th century. Since then it has enjoyed many ups and downs in terms of popularity and acceptability among adults. Particularly in the early 20th century, fantasy animal characters were an object of fascination to children and adults alike, appearing in almost every conceivable type of entertainment and establishing themselves as a major marketing tool, not only of consumer products, but of political ideas. This was best demonstrated In 1945 by George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

In the later half of the 20th century, general attitudes towards animal related fantasy changed. Cartoons and literature focused most of their animal related efforts on the children’s entertainment market, inspiring many to believe that cartoons and animal stories were strictly for kids. Though this does not seem to have prevented adults from continuing to enjoy the antics of funny animals in the comic strips.

In the late 60’s the beginnings of a backlash against this could be seen. The pop culture of the late sixties and early 70’s used funny animal imagery in many creative works meant for adults. The Beatles wearing fursuits on the cover of Magical Mystery Tour and the advent of Robert Crumb’s Fritz The Cat showed that many creative people saw more use for animal characters than children’s entertainment.

Serious animal literature soon began to appear that proved to have surprising appeal for adults. Richard Adams’ Watership Down and Richard Bach’s Jonathan Livingston Seagull topped the best seller list in the early 70’s.

In the late 70’s, attitudes began to change again. Fantasy in general began to enjoy more respect among adult audiences, eventually becoming a major entertainment market in which there was considerable room for furry elements, such as the Ewoks and Wookies of Star Wars, and the mythical creatures in Piers Anthony novels.

Near the beginning of the 80’s, the furry genre enjoyed the first explosion of popularity it had seen since the 1930’s. Furry characters littered the animation world as well as toy stores. But there was also adult furry entertainment.

1982 saw the release of four all ages furry films - The Secret Of NIMH, The Flight Of Dragons, The Last Unicorn and The Plague Dogs. While the fantasy novel market soon began producing such titles as Alan Dean Foster’s Spellsinger series, Brian Jacques’ Redwall and Tad Williams’ Tailchaser’s Song. And the independent comics market produced titles as varied as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Albedo, Usagi Yojimbo, Cutey Bunny, Critters and Omaha The Cat Dancer.

By the start of the 90’s, the furry genre was finally starting to gain recognition as a unique segment of the arts with a specifically adult aged fandom that products could be marketed to. But this idea was not readily understood or accepted. And, as the fantasy boom of the 80’s began to subside, the promoters of the new furry market were driven underground, where they found companionship with another fledgling market, anime.

Since anime and anthropomorphics artists were both involved in the unlikely concept of marketing cartoons to adults, they often joined forces in the creation of companies like Antarctic Press and Radio Comix, which were some of the principle promoters of a new adult market for cartoons.

Unfortunately, such companies had only been moderately successful in this endeavor at the point where the entire comic industry crashed. At this point anime and furry went separate ways. Anime used television as a means of promoting itself, while furry fans turned to the internet.

Since then, the mainstream entertainment industry has continued to create many works within the furry genre which are mostly directed at children, while the furry community has steadily grown on the internet providing entertainment for adult aged audiences.

Organization of the fandom
The fandom for furry characters traces its organization back to a science fiction convention in 1980, when a drawing of a character from Steve Gallacci’s Albedo started a discussion of anthropomorphic characters in science fiction novels, spawning a discussion group that met at various science fiction and comics conventions.

Over the next several years, a gradually increasing number of “furry fans” developed fanzines and eventually began to have gatherings at house parties. By 1987 enough interest had been generated for the first furry convention.

As the internet became more accessible, it became the most popular means for furry fans to keep in touch and share their artistic efforts. This gained the fandom higher visibility and it began to grow rapidly.

Virtual environments, such as MUCKs, soon became the most popular places on the net for furry fans to meet and communicate. One of the oldest and largest MUCKs in existence is FurryMUCK. One of the newest virtual environments to attract furry fans is Second Life.

Today, those furry fans who have discovered the large concentration of fellow fans on the net have joined with them to create the virtual society that is the collective furry community. Other furry fans, particularly the computer illiterate, remain isolated in their interest with little to no awareness that there is an organized community for fans of the furry genre.

The furry community
: See article: Social order (of Furry fandom)
The furry community, referred to by many as furry fandom, or just the fandom, is the virtual universe inhabited by all those who refer to themselves as “Furries.”

It is a separate entity from what many fans of furry entertainment mean when they use the term furry fandom. To a traditional furry fan, furry fandom means fans of furry characters, period. But the community encompasses a great deal more than just the fandom for furry characters. It includes elements of religion, lifestyle and philosophy.

"Furriness" is the action of doing anything related to the furry character of a person.

Furry lifestyle
: See article: Furry lifestyle
The most commonly stated interest cited among members of the community, other than an enjoyment of furry entertainment, is a sense some may have of personally identifying with a certain kind of animal.

This is a relatively common aspect of human nature. Many people may feel an affinity for a certain type of animal. Marketers of collectibles have been creating products for people with such feelings for generations. Though it has rarely been something one had an open atmosphere in which to explore and get more deeply in touch with. The furry community, through its many virtual role play environments, provides this avenue for exploration into why certain people feel their particular affinity.

Some may view animals with a kind of religious reverence reminiscent of Buddhism, Shamanism or Otherkin. They may feel that they are the reincarnation of an animal, or that an animal spirit watches over them.

Furry sociability
Others may join the furry community simply because it is a free environment where one can form friendships without the normal social problems of having to hide one’s sexual orientation. It is also a place where some may come to find compassionate understanding and assistance with personal problems. The furry community prides itself on a concept of open mindedness and tolerance.

Furry fetishes
: See article: Fetish
The furry community also attracts furry related fetishists who warm to the non-condemning atmosphere and the ability to express fantasies of a sexual nature that would rarely be tolerated anywhere else.

Surveys place the number of extreme fetishists in the community at a comparatively low percentage, though the few there are tend to be extremely visible on the net.

Furry controversies
Defining the genre
: See article: What is Furry?
Historically, very little has been written about the concept of furry as a genre of entertainment. And the community itself sometimes has difficulty getting a grip on what the main object of the fandom is supposed to be. Consequently, some prominent members of the community may express ideas of limitation based on their personal taste in anthropomorphics. Others may feel that their taste in anthropomorphics are excluded by such limitations.

There are no written rules as to what types or levels of human and animal attributes are necessary for inclusion in the genre. The only noticeable defining factor seems to be that there be some kind of combination of the two. Thus, it is best to approach the genre with the broadest possible view, rather than being influenced by individuals expressing dissatisfaction with areas of the furry arts they personally don’t like.

Misinformation
Many people misunderstand the fandom due to a lack of non-prejudicial information being available. In many cases, the first things outsiders see of the fandom is sensationalistic fiction on TV shows. Others may take note of the adult themed art on the net and assume this is the whole point of the fandom.

Sexuality
The free atmosphere of tolerance in the furry community makes it far more likely for members to be open about their sexual orientation. This has spawned the misconception that the majority of the fandom is gay. However, surveys and practical thinking dispel this theory as unlikely. It is far more likely that those fans of a standard heterosexual nature feel no need to talk about their sexuality or seek understanding of it. Thus, discussion of alternative sexuality would naturally be more visible.

Confessions of more unusual sexuality and lifestyle have also been noted in the furry community, and though the majority of furry fans will attempt to be tolerant, certain sexual practices will stretch the tolerance of certain furry fans to the breaking point.

In particular, discussion of bestiality is a trigger for angry debate within the community. Many insist that absolute tolerance must be absolute, while others resent the association of the fandom with a practice that is not only illegal in many places, but is considered by many to be a form of animal abuse. Animal abuse being something you would naturally expect would not go down well among a virtual society that is, for the most part, naturally sympathetic towards animals. Hence, bestiality is anything but an uncontested aspect of the furry community, as certain furry hate groups are prone to claim.

Another practice that sparks controversy from within the fandom itself is plushophilia. Though plushophilia is generally harmless in any physical sense, being confronted with it may trigger a protective reaction in a furry fan who collects plushies as treasured mementos of beloved characters. In a sense, sexualizing plushies may strike at the very heart of what endears many fans to the furry phenomenon.

Fringe segments of the community
Just about anyone with any kind of interest that can somehow be tied to furry can set up a new neighborhood in the furry community for that interest. Some of the more controversial fringe neighborhoods include Babyfurs, who are interested in furry child characters, and Nazi Furs, who are interested in furry World War 2 characters. For some reason, the furries who create these neighborhoods have a tendency to give them names that sound worse than the actual intent, and thus may generate prejudice or attract the wrong kind of attention.

Furry hate groups
: See article: Anti-furries
Furry hate groups have been created that ridicule the fandom at every opportunity and continue the spread of various types of misinformation, largely based on overplaying activities that exist in the fringe areas of the community and have no direct relationship to the fandom.

It is the general assertion of fans that these hate groups are mistaken in their assumption that furry fandom is all about sexualizing animal characters and animal related fetishes. It has also been confessed by certain furry haters that they attack furry fandom, not out of any belief that the furry fandom is any worse than other fandoms in these respects, but rather because it is much easier to get an entertaining reaction out of furries than it is to get a reaction out of Trekkies or Otaku.

Thus, the anti-furry movement exists largely for entertainment value and should be taken with a grain of salt. Furries may even be seen to play along with furry hate groups, as some furries insist that it is important to maintain a sense of humor about such things. Indeed, there is hardly a fandom in existence that does not parody and laugh at its own idiosyncrasies and stereotypes.

Erotic furry art
: See article: Furotica
If one looks on games like Starfox and movies like Over The Hedge as the main furry genre, and the erotic art coming out of the community as a parody of the main genre, a direct parallel to anime and hentai can be seen. As well as a parallel with the general fantasy genre and erotic fantasy art. The major difference being that the output of furry titles by major companies is relatively small when compared to the output of other genres.

Thus it is easy to mistake the mature art aspect of furry fandom for being more prominent than in other fandoms. When, in reality, the amount of erotic content coming out of the furry community pales in comparison to the anime/manga erotic output, which is much better organized and even supported by the main industry.

Anime fans enjoy the availability of endless hours of erotic animation created by professional companies, and even the erotic manga comics created by anime fans display a level of professionalism that furry artists can not even begin to aspire to. Yet, this tends to not be a problem for anime fandom, as the high output of non-erotic anime keeps the erotic subgenre in perspective as parody. While with furry fandom, it is highly likely that the first output of the fandom an outsider will see will be something of an erotic nature or sexual humor art.

Self criticism
The furry community also is sometimes criticized by its own for being too tolerant of various things, especially the over visibility of controversial fetishes.

Particularly for those who are only in the community because of an interest in furry cartoons, it may be found painful that the community feels free to associate them with things that seem completely unrelated to a fandom for furry characters.

Other furries will then turn on those who claim not to want to be associated with every controversial element in the community and accuse them of being a detriment to the stability of the community, often accompanied with accusations of Nazi behavior or being a Burned Fur.

Over the years many furries have left the fandom in a state of grief over such controversies and disputes.

Unsympathetic media
: See article: Timeline of media coverage
In years past, the only value the mainstream media has seen in furry fandom has been over emphasis on the fetishists and lifestylers within the community. Many of those who were interviewed for such media portrayals claim they were deliberately misquoted. As a result, misunderstanding of the nature of the fandom has been widespread. However, this appears to be changing, as less sensational media sources are starting to take note of the community, which are more inclined to see interest in the fandom aspect.

Furry politics
As with any type of community, even a virtual one, political issues will arise and certain people will champion them, attempting to attain a measure of power and control over the rest of the community. However, the community is seldom able to be united on any single issue. And most attempts to force change fall flat.

Political topics in the community can revolve around pushing tolerance for controversial segments of the community, people trying to put limits on the genre celebrated by the fandom, and those who wish to completely separate the furry community from any relationship with the mainstream entertainment industry.

A typical example of furry politics is the attempt to draw a distinction between a “furry comic” created by self professed members of the fandom, and a traditional “funny animal comic,” created by someone who has not acknowledged a connection to the fandom. This type of political ploy may cause a lot of heated debate, but in the end there is no artistic difference between the two, and furry fans rarely stop to ask an artist’s affiliations before enjoying his work.

Creativity beyond the furry genre
Some creative members of the community create works that are not furry of nature. 2, The Ranting Gryphon creates rants on real world politics and the state of human society. A number of furry musical groups produce music without furry subject matter. Some furry online radio stations play popular music that rarely has furry subject matter. And some amateur film makers in the fandom create films that have no visible furry themes.

This sometimes brings the community unexpected positive attention, though it further confuses people as to just what the furry fandom is supposed to be about.

The Basil Brush Show is a 2002-present remake of the 1970s-1980s comedy show starring Basil Brush, the famous glove puppet fox.

A new comic foil was introduced for the first 4 seasons called Mr Stephen who was played by Christopher Pizzey. Georgina Leonidas and Michael Hayes also appear on the show. No-one is directly credited as playing Basil on this show, although it is almost certainly Michael Winsor, who is credited as either Basil's fitness instructor, or his personal assistant.

However, Despite Basil Brush's worldwide success, Basil Brush's TV Show (Original nor This remake) was never shown in the United States

Characters
Stephen
Stephen is the uncle to Dave and Molly, and is left in charge of them when their parents go on a round-the-world tour. It is never mentioned how he was chosen to be their guardian, or what his exact relationship with the children is. He is often the main subject of Basil or another character's jokes, much to his annoyance.

In the fifth series, Mr Stephen left the show (it is as yet unknown whether or not he will return later on, but it appears that he will not, as he has "officially left the show" ). He was revealed in the first episode to have been employed by "Hollywood", which turned out to in fact be a mobile snack bar named "Hollywood". This is a reference to his eagerness to be recognised as a brilliant actor in the first four series and be accepted into Hollywood, an endeavour that almost invariably flopped. (2002-2006)

Dave
Dave is another of the new characters that feature in the comeback. He is regularly shown to have a flair for business, and has, throughout the course of the series, set up a media empire, imported stolen goods and even started his own TV show, Big Bother (a play on the actual television program "Big Brother")
He is portrayed by Michael Hayes.

Molly
Molly is Dave's older sister and Stephen's niece. She is portrayed as the sensible character, trying to reason with the characters whenever they make a bad decision. Molly is one of the most popular characters on the show. She is very clever and very witty. In Series 5, Molly appears in only a few episodes, with Lucy partially replacing her character-type. (2002-Present) She is portrayed by Georgina Leonidas.

Anil
Appearing in every season of the comeback so far, Anil is the owner of Basil's local hangout, Anil's Cafe. Like Mr Stephen, he is shown to have a less than average intelligence, and a running joke through the series is the terrible quality of his food. (2002-Present)

Amanda
Stephen's first love interest Amanda appeared in the first series, but betrayed the gang by working for Cousin Mortimer. (2002)

Ella
Intelligent and headstrong, Ella is Stephen's second love interest, Molly's best friend, and the gang's upstairs neighbour. She appears in the second series. (2003)

Madison
An American who appears in the later seasons, having moved to the flat upstairs. She is introduced as a fashion student, but her initial designs were thrown out by Basil, having mistaken them for rubbish. Madison is Stephen's third love interest in the Basil Brush Show. She mispronounces Basil's name as Bay-zill (2004-Present)

The Voice Over Man
Witty but often voicing-over in the wrong situations, the Voice Over Man is never seen but often heard, and heard very loudly too, much to the annoyance of Basil and co. (2002-present)

Cousin Mortimer
Mortimer, Basil's criminal cousin is a fox on the run who often appears as the main baddie of the show. After telling a joke, he says "Bang bang!", usually accompanied by two gun shots. His full name is Mortimer Trouble Brush (2002-Present). He is voiced by Don Austen.

Bingo
Basil's playful and hyper nephew fox cub. Often says "Bing bing!". (2003-Present). He is voiced by Don Austen, (also voices Cousin Mortimer).

Bungo
Only seen once, Bungo is Bingo's twin brother. Described by Basil as "like Bingo, but much, much worse..." (2003)

Miss Pike
Only seen in one episode, Miss Pike is Dave's evil maths teacher who toasts any pupil that don't do or bring in their homework. In the episode The Fakes Progress when Steven is handsome he pretends to fall in love with Miss Pike to save Dave. Her first name is Ermintrude but she likes to call her name Minty. (2002)

India Beau
Pop-singing waitress at Anil's. She is a very good singer and is the second most popular on the show. She left the show in 2005.

Liam
Liam was found during the search for Stephen's predessesor. He impressed the judges, although he revealed that he was actually a distant cousin of Stephen and had just come to look for him. (2006-Present)

Lucy
Anil's niece, Lucy, as of series 5. She was found working as a "slave" for Anil, and was "rescued" by Basil. (2006-Present)

Roxy
Roxy is Basil's new girlfriend, but unlike the other foxes in the show (Bingo & Mortimer) she's an arctic fox. She has so far only been seen in four episodes. (2006-Present)

Places
* Stephen's Flat (2002-Present): This is the place where the gang live, and spend most of their time at. It is made up of a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and three bedrooms. The bathroom is seen in many occasions, and Basil & Stephen's bedroom is seen at the end of every episode from Series 1-4. Molly's room is only seen in one episode in Series Two, and Dave's room is only seen in an episode from Series 4.

* Anil's Café (2002-Present): The gang spend most of their time here, although it apparently serves bad food. This is the place where the group meet Amanda (1.1), India (Series 2), and Lucy (5.1). We also see Anil's Kitchen in one episode from Series 2. It is later refurbished in Series 3.

* Ella's Flat (2003): Only featured in one episode (2.1), this is the place where Stepehen and Basil end up after falling through the air vent.

* Madison's Flat (2004-Present): This is the place where Madison lives. It is exceptionally smaller than both Ella's and Stephen's flat.
Sly Cooper

Sly Cooper (known as Sly Raccoon in Europe) is the star character and anti-hero of three platform games developed by Sucker Punch Productions for the Sony PlayStation 2.

While the game features characters that are considered 'furry' by the fandom, it is unlikely that they were created with furries in mind.

Story
Sly is a young raccoon who is descended from a long line of master thieves. He grew up an orphan after his father was killed by a gang known as the Fiendish Five. This gang also stole the Thievius Raccoonus, a book containing the Cooper family's thieving techniques. Sly's quest to recover his family's book is the basis for the first game.

Sly's primary weapon in the games is his family's cane.

Sly Cooper is aided in his adventures by his friends Bentley, a brainy turtle, and Murray, a strong, muscular hippopotamus.

Sly and his friends make their home in Paris, but the nationality of the characters is never made clear in the games.

The world in which Sly Cooper and his friends live appears to be inhabited only by anthropomorphic animals.

Sly's archenemy is Clockwerk, a mysterious robotic owl. He is likely the only animal in the game that is sapient, but not anthropomorphic. Clockwerk is revealed to have been hunting Sly's family line for years, which led to his decision to replace his body with machinery. It is also revealed that Clockwerk spared his life in the attack on his family to prove that the Cooper Clan would be unable to be great thieves without the Thievius Raccoonus.

In the first game, Clockwerk serves as the final boss, as well as the man "pulling the strings".

The second game focuses on a different gang, the Klaww Gang, who has stolen the pieces of Clockwerk's body that were left over after the first game to use in their own plans, and Sly's attempts to recover them.

In both games, Cooper and his friends are pursued by Inspector Carmelita Fox, a detective from Interpol. Although the two are bitter rivals, they team up on occasion to defeat common foes. Carmelita is also portrayed as a possible love interest for Sly.

Sly Cooper and other characters from the games were also featured in a comic book published in 2004 by Gamepro Magazine to promote the release of Sly 2: Band of Thieves. Issue #2 was made in 2005 to promote Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.

The third game, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, takes place about a year after Sly 2: Band of Thieves. It's the first in the series where Clockwerk isn't the main enemy.

Biography
Born into a long line of thieves, Sly was destined to inherit the archive of their techniques, the Thievius Raccoonus. However, Sly is robbed of his family and his inheritance when a ruthless gang of thieves raids his home and kills his family, along with stealing and dividing the Thievius Raccoonus. Sly winds up in an orphanage, where he meets his two best friends, Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippo. After forming their brotherhood, they set out to make a name for themselves. In doing so, they earn the attention of Inspector Carmelita Fox, whom Sly becomes rather attracted too.

After years of searching, Sly finds out where the Fiendish Five are and takes them down one by one. He learns about Clockwerk's relation to his family, and retrieves the Thievius Raccoonus. Afterwards, he tricks Carmelita with a kiss, and her reaction, though unnoticed by Sly, shows that she in turn cares for him.

Two years later, Sly and co. return to destroy the Clockwerk parts to prevent their use by evil. After surving harrowing challenges, they defeat the Klaww Gang. Meanwhile, Sly's feelings of friendship with his pals and attraction towards Carmelita grow. This adventure ends in tragedy, as Bentley is injured.

A year later, Sly goes after the Cooper Vault, the location of his family's stolen fortune. Recruiting several new members to the team, Sly sets out to break into it. Along the way, Sly conflicts with the addition of Panda King to the group. Finally, druing a near fatal encounter with Dr. M's simian monster, Sly realizes how much Carmelita means to him. After the final battle with M, Sly is hit and then fakes amnesia, causing Carmelita to take him home with her. In reality, Sly did it to grow closer to her.

Allies
Cooper Gang

*Bentley- A turtle who Sly met at the orphanage, Bentley is the brains of Sly's gang. Originally a timid computer expert, Bentley evolved into a confident demolitions expert. During the final battle with Clockwerk, Bentley received an injury that left him confined to a wheelchair. Undaunted, he tricked out the wheelchair with bombs and heavy-duty sleep darts.

*Murray- A hippo who Sly met at the orphanage, Murray is the team's muscle. Like Bentley, Murray was rather nervous about field work, but worked as the gang's getaway driver. Two years after the Fiendish Five, Murray had transformed into a mighty wrestler known as "the Murray". Because he blamed himself for Bentley's injury, Murray attempted to find solace. However, he quickly returned to help out his buddies.

*The Guru- An Australian Aborigine and master of the mystic "Dream Time", the Guru served as Murray's teacher. He later joined the gang, serving as mystic expert. The Guru's gear consists of a walking stick and Moon Stone, and he speaks in an odd language that only other characters can understand.

*Penelope- A skilled pilot and tech expert, Penelope is a female version of Bentley except for the fact that she is a mouse. Under the alias of the "Black Baron", Penelope was a top pilot in Holland whom the gang recruited for battling Dr. M. She and Bentley later fall in love like Sly and Carmelita.

*Panda King- A former member of the Fiendish Five, Panda King now joins the Cooper Gang as their demolitions expert on the condition that they help him save his daughter, Jing King, from the evil General Tsao.

*Dimitri- A former KLAWW gang member, Dimitri now joins the gang as their frogman on the count that they help him find his grandfather's diving gear and stolen treasure from pirates.

Interpol

*Inspector Carmelita Fox- An Interpol inspector, Carmelita has devoted years of her life to pursuing Sly Cooper and his cohorts. Equipped with an electrical pistol, Carmelita is obsessive in her hunting of Sly.

Enemies
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
The Fiendish Five

*Clockwerk - An owl who some time in the distant past developed a hatred for the Cooper clan. Clockwerk founded the Fiendish Five, and personally wiped out Sly's parents. The giant bird has replaced his body with robotic parts to supplement his hatred of the Cooper clan, which kept him alive. Clockwerk then confronted Sly in battle, and Sly beat him by destroying his head. However, Clockwerk's spectre would return to haunt Sly in the form of his components, which were stolen by the Klaww Gang.

*Muggshot the Bulldog - Born the runt of the litter, Muggshot was mocked and teased by everyone in the neighborhood. The only friends he could find were on the big screen, where he saw his first gangster. Inspired, Muggshot worked out for the rest of his childhood, turning into a gigantic mass of muscle. Following his theft of Tennessee Kid Cooper's section of the Thievius Raccoonus, he took off for Mesa City to establish himself as a gambling kingpin. However, Sly and the gang were able to defeat him, and he was dragged off to jail. He later reappears in Holland at the ACES competition, fails in his attempt to destroy the Cooper Gang's plane and hangar, and is then busted by Inspector Carmelita.

*Mz. Ruby - As the descendant of a family of voodoo mystics, Mz. Ruby was feared as a child. Learning to summon the undead, Mz. Ruby turned to crime. After she stole Slytankhamen's section of the Thievius Raccoonus, she headed into the Haitian jungle. She established a massive voodoo facility, creating an army of voodoo zombies. However, Sly was able to penetrate her Skull Temple, and beat her in a voodoo face off. Mz. Ruby's zombie production (illegal worldwide) earned her a life sentence in jail.

*Panda King - A poor child growing up on the streets of China, the Panda King was fascinated with fireworks. He spent 10 years learning the art, then attempted to present his works to the noblemen of China, which did not go well. He was chased away, and took revenge by turning into a demolitions master. However, he would later end up joining forces with Sly to reclaim his daughter from General Tsao, and officially joined the Cooper Gang once that was accomplished.

*Sir Raleigh - Wealthy, privileged, and living in luxury, Sir Raleigh nevertheless grew bored with his life. He tried piracy at one point, and found it to his liking. Becoming addicted to crime, Raleigh joined the Fiendish Five, establishing himself as Chief Machinist.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves
The Klaww Gang

*Arpeggio - Though he was a brilliant being, Arpeggio was dissatisfied. While attending a prestigious boarding school, he found himself to be physically infuriating: his tiny wings would not allow him to fly. Arpeggio turned to the works of the Italian masters of the Renaissance period, looking at their designs of flying machines in search of a way to make himself fly. He came into the Klaww Gang as mechanical expert, and serviced all the Clockwerk parts for use in the Klaww Gang's schemes. However, Arpeggio secretly planned to reassemble Clockwerk and merge with him, giving him not only the ability to fly, but making him immortal. He hired a young protégé, but she also had dreams of grandeur and betrayed him.

*The Contessa - A prominent hypnotist and prison warden working for Interpol, the Contessa first appeared at Rajan's ball in India. She then captured Sly, Murray, and Carmelita at Rajan's temple, following Neyla's betrayal. Bentley pursues them to the Contessa's clinic in Prague, where he learns of her secret membership in the Klaww Gang. The Contessa was married to a wealthy aristocrat but he died soon afterwards, very likely poisoned by his wife. She opened part of her newly acquired estate as her clinic. The Contessa's plot: using hypnotism to cure criminals of their unlawful conditions, while in reality forcing them to reveal the locations of their loot and clearing the field of competition. To this end, she uses Clockwerk's eyes to mesmerize her enemies.

*Constable Neyla - When Sly comes to steal the Clockwerk parts, he runs into Carmelita and her new partner, Constable Neyla. Neyla intentionally mentions the Klaww Gang in Sly's hearing range, to set him loose upon the criminals. She appears to be another love interest for Sly, until she betrays him to the Contessa at Rajan's spice temple. From that point, it seems that Neyla has her own agenda to fulfill, and is in truth a protégé of Arpeggio, only to turn on him as well, and merges with the Clockwerk parts to become Clock-la. In the end, Sly, Murray, Bentley and Carmelita work together to put an end to Neyla's evil schemes once and for all.

*Dimitri - Once a passionate artist, Dimitri's unique "kinetic aesthetic" didn't sit well with the art community. In rage, Dimitri took to forging old masterpieces, punishing the world for his dismissal. Dimitri set up a sleazy nightclub in Paris, where he funneled Rajan's illegal spice through the city in preparation for Arpeggio's master plan. He also had set up a counterfeit money printing press beneath the club, using the Clockwerk Tail Feathers as plates. After his defeat, he tries his hand as a dance instructor, before returning to crime as a member of Sly's team.

*Jean Bison - A prospector from the 1850's, Jean Bison was frozen alive in an avalanche he set off by accident. After 120 years in the cooler, global warming thawed him out. Jean Bison remained true to his time, seeking to tame the wild by damming every river and chopping down every tree. He joined the Klaww Gang to bankroll his war on nature, and attached the Clockwerk Lungs and Stomach to his three best trains: the Iron Horses. He also holds the talons that he keeps on his walking cane as a showpiece.

*Rajan - Growing up poor on the streets of Calcutta, Rajan started his life of crime early, selling black market spices (technically drugs, though not said) that cause the consumers to become uncontrollably enraged, as well as making them hypnosis-susceptable. Rajan holds Clockwerk's wings as a decorative piece in his temple, and the heart as a water pump in his spice growing operation.

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
*Dr. M - Dr. M has been trying to get into the Cooper Vault for years without success. His increased frustration has led to his building an impregnable fortress around the Vault. This fortress leads Sly to recruit an army of world class thieves.
*Octavio - Octavio was one of the greatest opera singers of his time and was about to hit the big time when the tastes of society in music changed from "calm and beautiful" to "hard and metal". He was then taken into "the business" by his few remaining fans (Italian mobsters) and eventually rises in power to become infamous for his control over the city of Venice.
*Muggshot - See Fiendish Five.
*Penelope "The Black Baron" - The Black Baron is a mysterious pilot that holds a dog-fighting championship in Holland every year, little is known about him except that when thing don't go his way, he does what he does best. Cheat.
*Mask of Dark Earth
*General Tsao- A ruthless and evil general, Tsao is obsessed with tyranny and power. He kidnapped the Panda King's daughter and attempts to make her his wife in a forced marriage, as Tsao believes that this will honor his family's name and enable him to rule China with an iron fist. Usually found kicking puppies and being self-centered.
*Captain LeFwee- Reputed to be the smartest man on the seven seas, LeFwee stole Reme Lousteau's treasure map from Black Spot Pete.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a popular series of computer games by SEGA, created in 1991 and starring a blue hedgehog called Sonic embroiled in constant battles against his nemesis/rival, Ivo Robotnik (aka Eggman). There have also been several spin-off cartoons and comics. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the furry community tends to be more interested in Sonic's sidekick, Tails, the two-tailed fox, than in Sonic himself! Other anthropomorphic characters from the games and associated media, like Princess Sally Acorn, Bunnie Rabbot (see Wikipedia), Antoine D'Coolette, Rotor J. Walrus, Dulcy the dragon, Princess Lupe Wolf, Rouge, Cream, Shadow and many others, also tend to attract attention.

Yerf famously instituted a ban on all Sonic-inspired artwork after the archive was flooded with low-quality artwork related to the game.
Animaniacs

75.71.129.231: /* Reputation and legacy */

Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs (1993 to 1996) was the second animated series produced by the collaboration of Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation during the Modern animation of the United States|animation renaissance of the 1990s.

New episodes of the show were aired during the 1993 through 1998 seasons, and episodes of the show were rerun in TV syndication|syndication for several years after production of new episodes ceased.

The show introduced the popular cartoon characters Pinky and the Brain, who were subsequently spin off|spun-off into their own TV series in 1995.

Cleanup

This was also the time period Daffy was first paired with Bugs Bunny, beginning a love/hate relationship that continues today in new merchendise, television appearances and movies (see Looney Tunes: Back In Action, 2003 theatrical release).

King Leonardo and his Short Subjects was an animated cartoon series released in 1960 by Total Television (which would later rename itself Leonardo Productions after the main character of this show).

The show focused on Leonardo, a lion, who was the inept yet well-meaning king of the fictional african nation of Bongo Congo, and his incompetent brother Itchy's attempts to overthrow Leonardo and rule the kingdom himself along with his friend (and leader) Biggie Rat, a gangster with an Edward G. Robinson-type accent. They were later both employed by Mr. Mad, a mad scientist with a domineering personality (easily cowing even the strong-willed Biggie) and his own nefarious plans for Bongo Congo, not to mention a creepy echoing voice.

Leonardo was assisted by Odie Cologne, a mild-mannered skunk (on the theme song he was referred to as "Odio Cologne").

Each half-hour episode of King Leonardo consisted of three segments, the King Leonardo segment, Tooter Turtle, about the adventures of a turtle who has a wizard lizard transport him to various settings only to realize he was better off at home, and Twinkles the Elephant. The main purpose of this segment was to advertise Twinkles Cereal, a product of the show's chief sponsor General Mills. This segment would be removed when the show was syndicated during the 1980s.

Leonardo cartoons were also sometimes paired up with The Hunter, a cartoon about a Southern-accented crime-fighting bloodhound who (while also behaving like Foghorn Leghorn including the Senator Claghorn jokes) often chased after an evil fox, on Total TV's more popular series Underdog. In addition,non-Total Television animated shorts were aired on the program which included The Fox and the Crow and Li'l Abner produced by Frank Tashlin for Columbia Pictures/Screen Gems.

King Leonardo and his Short Subjects was part of NBC's Saturday Morning lineup until 1963.

The animation for this show was produced by Gamma Productions, the same mexican studio that did much of the work for Jay Ward.

The similar animation style and the fact that King Leonardo shorts have often been packaged with Jay Ward shows such as Rocky and Bullwinkle and George of the Jungle in syndication have led many viewers to believe that it is a Ward show.

King Leonardo never attained the popularity of Total Television's other series, Underdog and Tennessee Tuxedo, and is hardly ever aired on television today. As of July 30, 2006, the Black Family Channel is airing this show on it's "BFC Kids TV" block.

The characters of this show were also featured in an eight-issue comic book produced by Dell Comics and Gold Key.
