They derive their name from the anonymity of these sites, where Anonymous posting is encouraged and often necessary.

Due to the group being vastly broad and diverse, the actions of individual Anonymous vary massively, yet most are content with mocking popular culture and one another. This is often done through [[wikipedia:Internet meme|memes]] that an outsider would largely find confusing.

== Actions ==
Despite the groups apparent random behaviour, some motivation is common, where many Anonymous will move towards a single cause - for good reasons, bad reasons, or purely for personal enjoyment.

In early 2008, these actions gained much media attention, caused by their attacks against the controversial [[Wikipedia:Scientology|Church of Scientology]], also known as [[Wikipedia:Chanology|Operation Chanology]]. This involved several [[Wikipedia:ddos|Denial of Service]] attacks on the Church's website, as well as an ongoing series of peaceful worldwide protests at Scientology buildings worldwide.

== Anonymous and furry ==
The founding principal of Anonymous is that there is no responsibility and no accountability... and admittedly, Anonymous was founded primarily on disembodied hate. Traditional Anons tend to act out negatively towards a number of groups, including furries, in the form of harassment and [[trolling]] because it has proven in the past to be amusing. Anonymous acts in pursuit of "lulz"; in other words, as long as any one target contains the promise of personal amusement, it will be harvested for its "lulz" potential.

The Anonymous of [[4chan]], [[7chan]], [[Something Awful]] and particularly [[Encyclopædia Dramatica]] have conducted numerous notable "raids" on furries that were deemed "lulzworthy" targets. This has led to a generally negative image among furries towards Anonymous as a whole. However, while it is true that the majority of Anonymous share a negative view of furries, some members of Anonymous are in fact quite tolerant or indifferent of the furry subculture.

Small numbers of furries claim to be members of Anonymous; while this may be true in that their identity is hidden and thus their contributions may be accepted into the "hive mind," one should be warned that once a member of Anonymous is discovered to be a furry, they will quite likely be subjected to harassment and [[trolling]] by many of the legion. == Deletion ==

I've been looking through some of the articles and feel that those made by the actual user themselves should be deleted and put into their user page.

And this person is caught my eye significantly. Not only is the article 90% written by the character, it is from a very biased perspective, lacks relevant information and has little interesting context, all of which could be in his empty user page.
Very few other articles link to this (I haven't seen any as of yet). Also the grammar and spelling requires a drastic cleanup.

Of course notably, a small disproportionate amount is given concerning his ED antics, for which he is well known for both in and out of the furry community. And to be fair an external ED link should be included in my opinion despite the satirical content.

Though what irritates me the most is the users' hypocritic attitude. An actual quote of his (with screen caps on ED) recall him saying:

''"How does it feel to be insulted by a man of pure intellect...that's right...YOU LOSE YOU FAG! can you PROVE i'm a fag when I CLEARLY straight and have a FEMALE mate, that's right you LOSE! YOUR THE FURFAG!"''

Despite his bisexuality and interests in the furry community, he uses derogatory name calling constantly in conversations. This attitude should not be tolerated and as a result, I do not feel that this person deserves their own Wikifur page.

Given my reply to another comment (see above) and the lack of external references, I decided not to restore the content in question. It is also something of a gray area with respect to the relevance requirement (if someone is guilty of making obnoxious statements to the extent of getting banned from a site, is that in the public interest to include here?).

Having said that, it is also worth noting that the [http://furry.wikia.com/index.php?title=Straitfox&oldid=196470 most recent version] of the article as of 21 May 2008 was reworked by [[User:Asylumfoxy714]], who it appears may be Straitfox, and whose edits may be biased. In addition, there have also been several recent edits to add negative information about him (usually poorly written but in at least one case a reference was included) and to modify templates.
