==== Potential Change of Venue or Cancellation ====<br />
<br />
On February 28, 2018, the @Califur Twitter account announced that due to the "threats and protests" that resulted in a major increase in security costs to the convention in 2017, their venue is now refusing to host the convention<ref name="Tweet2">[https://twitter.com/Califur/status/969055867097178113 Tweet]on the Califur Account on [[Twitter]]. Dated February 28, 2018. Retrieved March 1, 2018.</ref>. The threats and protests mentioned were part of a campaign organized by Nathan Gate, a member of the AltRight movement and a white supremacist; Gates, who now states that he was never a member of the furry fandom, has openly admitted that he arranged these protests against Califur and that he leveraged members of the (no defunct) AltFurry Discord channel to do so.<ref name="Tweet3">[https://twitter.com/DogpatchPress/status/957082946321526784 Tweet]on the DogPatch Press Account on [[Twitter]].
