Lake Area Furry Friends (also known as LAFF) is a regional social group focused on the northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and northwestern Indiana, including the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison metropolitan areas.

History
LAFF came into being in 1996, a more regionally-oriented mailing list than its predecessor, the ChiFur mailing list, which was focused around Chicago. It has since enjoyed becoming the dominant furry group in the region and has branched off into cyberspace to LiveJournal and MySpace communities, moderated by Artemis, to the Second Life group, founded by Sema JayHawk, and helped moderated by Blazger and Steel the Warrior.

The present
Currently, the community is based around the "LAFF mailing list," which is hosted at catbox.com by puma. The mailing list is primarily used to organize social functions, including a monthly bowling outing (organized by Shale Ari) which is usually followed by a trip to White Castle for SliderCon (organized by Sema JayHawk) or Pizza For the People (organized by Shale Ari), as well as monthly softball games in the summer (organized by Stevie Maxwell), and the annual trip to Noah's Ark Water Park in the Wisconsin Dells (organized by Hakeber). The year culminates in a grand New Years Eve party in Northern Illinois. In past years, that's been organized by Linnaeus but in 2007, the party was hosted by Riley West Wolf and several other furs. Numerous weekly events also take place, as well as one-off outings organized by community members.

SliderCon is a monthly trip to White Castle that usually follows Lake Area Furry Friends bowling events. Though it was the people who supported the idea to make it so great, Sema JayHawk was the first to come up the idea, and is the one to organize the event each month.

SliderCon is not exclusive to the LAFF Group. There is always one held during Midwest Furfest and everyone, even non-LAFFurs are welcome to attend.

History
SliderCon started in March of 2005 when the Denny's that the LAFF Group would usually go to after bowling told them they would have to wait two hours just to get a table. Sema decided that she didn't want to wait, and went to White Castle instead.

In the following months, SliderCon gained popularity as the "After Bowling Event" and to this day is one of two choices for post-bowling entertainment.

In late December of 2006, Sema decided to recreate SliderCon on Secondlife. Being the founder of both SliderCon and the Secondlife LAFF group, she decided that this place would be LAFF's official Secondlife headquarters.

The Secondlife's SliderCon currently sits on a 1024sm plot of land in the sim of Osondoson and, doubles as Sema's Secondlife home. The castle is still under construction, but in the future, users will be able to buy bags of Sliders, Crave cases and Crave Crates.
