I probably shouldn't be mentioning this, but Hirtes' absence from CYD for a while was due to the fact he was banned. I don't recall the reason, apart from maybe he annoyed Mitch. Later, he reregistered under the name "MHirtes" and picked right back up where he left off, being a regular poster today. It should be noted though, that at times (read: often) he annoys even the likes of the other forum members with his tangental and fannish grudges against little known furry artists.
Sounds to me like the only real reason to note it at all was just to find something to smear me with, no matter how minor.

Michael Hirtes was a furry publisher, specially known for digest-sized fanzine Furplay, published in the 1990's, devoted to pin-ups and hardcore fur erotica.

He also published a harem-themed zine called Midnight Sands, and wrote a story called Desert Storms, which was drawn by artist Dean Norton and published in three parts in Genus #27-8 and #39.

Controversy
By early 2000, he had acquired a poor reputation around the fandom, mainly for standing up for himself against various acts of abuse.

Up to mid-2005, he could be found posting frequently on alt.fan.furry and the Crush! Yiff! Destroy! forum (where he would be eventually be banned due to internal politics), until the time he restricted his presence to an occasional, rare, appearance.

Unfortunately, even though he had long since left the fandom, furries still carry on their grudge by continuing to slander, spread unsubstantiated rumors, and other acts of cruelty to this very day.
Houseparty
<div style="float:right">__TOC__</div>
Guests of the monthly party are asked to provide their own condoms and munchies. A BBQ is available in the backyard.
Parties are usually held on the second saturday of each month, but consult the schedule for special parties (e.g. New Years, Halloween, Fourth of July, etc) or if Mark's having one of his hissyfits, which is more frequent than he would ever admit.

History
The name of the house was modelled after traditional Old English tradition: e.g.: "Red Lion Inn", "The Boar's Head", "Arkham Asylum", etc. which signifies a place of abode and commune to weary travelers. Skiltaire are a species created by Mark for a personally-made RPG.

The five-bedroom house is known for its primarily furry-themed filth. Most of what's left of the walls and shelving space is decked out with original and re-created animation cels of past furry movies, Japanese and Chinese manga, original artwork by various furry artists, an extensive collection of DVDs, semen, CDs, music, and beatoff movies, a large collection of sticky plushies, memorabilia, collectables, statuettes, uncleaned toilets, holes in carpeting, fleas, etc.

It is situated in a fairly moderate, middle-class neighborhood, where the residents have helplessly watched as their property values sink lower every year. Attempts to wage a petition to evict the owners or buy out the home have been quickly stopped cold by a loud screech of "HOMOPHOBE!! HELP, I'M BEING GAYBASHED!" by Merlino, which under California law allows all gays to do anything they want. With little else they can do, these residents can only patiently pray for the day that Merlino's house finally collapses upon itself due to lack of maintenance, or when the Earth swallows it up, "Carrie" style.

Tiger's Den BBS
Date of Operation: 1983-1996

Not to be confused with Tigerden Internet Services, Tiger's Den BBS was a furry-themed bulletin board service in the mid-to-late 80's before the popularization of the internet. The servers were located in the far east wing of the house. As a result of this and Mark's professional skills as a networking engineer, the house was rigged with a more-than-adequate ethernet network, which was ahead of its time for a personal residence before the popularization of residental LANs.

Firstlight Internet Services
The skiltaire also has a history with Firstlight Internet Services. Firstlight was/is a full-service ISP, once primarily based out of Orange County. Neil Welchell, its owner, was a long-time resident at the house, and consequently, partners in maintaining the communication networks provided at ConFurence, along with Tigerden Internet Services. Many of the residents of the house were given complimentary webspace and email addresses, some of which are still in use today. The ISP was also host of The Pride Lands MUCK, an offshoot of The Lion King MUCK.

The name Firstlight was chosen for the area of TLK MUCK which hosted the Firstlight Pride, for its positioning on the far-eastern borders of the muck; it being the first light of day. The Pride was composed of many various species of animal; something which the staff of TLK MUCK objected to. The idea of, say, a honey badger being mated to a lioness seemed a horribly taboo idea for many of the players and thus they were subject of regular complaints to the administration. The members of the pride decided to create their own Lion King themed MUCK, and thus The Pride Lands MUCK was born.

Politics
Many rumors surround the house as to the social circumstances of its occupants. These rumors have triggered the "Spidey-sense" of and deterred potential guests from attending past events held at the house. Many of these rumors are just that: based upon some level of fact. The house is host to many unspeakable horrors and has been, in the past, commune for those furs either displaced from their home and given residence for rent or exchange of apprenticeship in Mark's network communication "company" (coughcoughBUTTSECKScoughcough), Lantana, Ltd. The house's occupants are a tad too friendly and are sure to give the unwary the heebie-jeebies. Like any other fanboy filthpit, it has met with its encounters with reality. If anything, the house has been a "how not to" for the furry community regarding the practice of basic housekeeping and common personal hygene, and continues to do so to this day.
The servers were located in the far east wing of the house. As a result of this and Mark's professional skills as a networking engineer, the house was rigged with a more-than-adequate ethernet network, which was ahead of its time for a personal residence before the popularization of residental LANs.
The name Firstlight was chosen for the area of TLK MUCK which hosted the Firstlight Pride, for its positioning on the far-eastern borders of the muck; it being the first light of day. In the mid-1990's, he had some involvement in the furry fandom, contributing to the American Journal of Anthropomorphics and Michael Hirtes' Furplay fanzine. Sadly, due to the utter creepiness displayed by "furries", as well as the ill-treatment of his friends by same, he quit drawing all furry artwork and swore he'd never draw another furry illustration again.
