Rocket City FurMeet

2006-03-06T08:30:52Z

65.66.141.155: /* Location */

Rocket City FurMeet, known as RCFM, is an annual furry convention in Huntsville, Alabama, USA that meets over Memorial Day weekend. It is due to enter its fourth year on 26-28 May 2006. It was started in 2003 by Brody Catsmouth, KO and the members of North Alabama Regional Furs.

Its Guest of Honor roster has featured Bill Holbrook, TygerCowboy, Jim Groat, 2 (the Ranting Gryphon) and StickDevil.

Attendance in Past Years
The first RCFM was planned and put together almost entirely in the six months preceding the first RCFM in 2003, so it was hard to guess beforehand how many would attend. Attendance grew from 103 registrations that first year (exceeding expectations), to 140 in 2004 and 202 in 2005.

RCFM Board of Directors
* KO - Head Cat and CEO for Rocket City FurMeet
* Brody Catsmouth - Co-chair, Treasurer, Second in Command, and more
* Lacy Amberwolf - Publicity, Publications, Graphics, T-shirts, and more
* Alexander Katz - Security, Pubilications, Third in Command, and more
* Kat - Keeper of the Hospitality Kitchens, Tax Guru, and more
* Draconis - Programming Director, Fursuit Organizer, and more
* Tallyhawk - Webtiger, Ursa Major Liason, Major supporter of RCFM, and more
* Shirokuma - Dealers' Den Co-Commander, Data Systems Lead, and more

Location
In 2006, RCFM remains at the Radisson Suite hotel on South Memorial Parkway in Huntsville, Alabama.

Huntsville is known as "Rocket City" because it is the home of the US Space and Rocket Center (often called the 'Sprocket Center' and its famous Space Camp, Marshall Space Flight Center, and Redstone Arsenal. There's often a trip out to the Center on Sundays. The Redstone Arsenal used to have tours, but no longer is accessible to the public.

Between the Sprocket Center and Redstone, there is a large population of engineers and geeks in Huntsville. As such, it lacks a lot of the Southern feel that many towns through Alabama have.

Things to do at RCFM
* Sub-Level 03 show
* Childrens' Events
* LAN Gaming Events
* Video Room
* Kat's Fantastic Pasta Feed
* Anime Room
* Iron Artist, the Tag-Team Battle
* Fursuiter Events
* Sponsor's Luncheon and the Booster Brunch
* Furry Variety show
* Puppetry Events
* 2, The Ranting Gryphon show
* Critical Fail show

Plans for 2006
RCFM will be hosting the Ursa Major Awards in 2006. The Guests of Honor for 2006 will be: Artist Guest of Honor Aura Moser, Musical Guests of Honor Sub-Level 03, Panelist of Honor SantaFox, and Special Guest: Kinky Turtle. As usual, 2, the Ranting Gryphon plans to hold another show at the convention.
