Wikipedia has the word yiff pretty well-defined. In short, yiff has several meanings, including:

* A foxish greeting
* An expression of happiness and success
* General sexual activity or context (see yiffing)
* Cybersex or TinySex
* Erotic or pornographic anthromorphic art

The latter is arguably the most common. Entire sites have sprung up around this, technically known as fur fetishism, such as Yiffstar, an erotic textual story archive.

Origin
There are several stories relating to the origin of the word yiff. One is that the term was coined by Foxen around 1990 as part of the foxish language. Most accounts suggest that the term started off "tame" and became more sexually charged as time wore on. Various sources also mention it could be named after the noise a fox makes while mating.

NPOV
Encyclopædia Dramatica (also known as ED, sometimes mistakenly called Encyclopedia Discordia or misspelt Encyclopedia Dramatica) is a controversial parody of wikis and wiki communities. Encyclopædia Dramatica is perhaps best known among furs for the time when a person hacked into FurAffinity and posted the results on ED, causing that site's shutdown.

Encyclopædia Dramatica was founded by Joseph Evers after a vanity page of a Wikipedian named Jameth was deleted. From there, Joseph founded Encyclopædia Dramatica to be a 'funny' version of Wikipedia. Today, this humor usually takes the form of presenting misinformation about a subject, and then attacking the subject treating the misinformation as facts.

Criticisms
The most common criticism of Encylopædia Dramatica, other than being false, is that there is little editorial control; the primary form of control taken are requiring registration to edit, and only allowing administrators to articles in certain namespaces. Additionally, users are banned who are found to be 'unfunny'. Being 'unfunny' can include using the English language correctly, adding facts to an article, removing falsehoods from an article, adding content that is actually funny, or removing tired old bad jokes from an article. What is funny is based on what their admins think is funny and the admins they have actively doing anything changes every month or two, altering their criteria for what they consider "unfunny"--most admins on the site are minors as noted in their live journals, therefore are interested in humor for their age demographic.

The text of Encyclopædia Dramatica, unlike most wikis, is not licensed; copyright violations are common, and even encouraged. Ironically, ED is also very litigious, frequently using the threat of lawsuits and DCMA takedown notices to anyone who refers to it in tones other than positive. Ironically, the website has pictures of bestiality, which are against the law. They also violate the communications decency act (which may be ruled unconstitutional at this time) and a recent law requiring websites to have proven through meeting their naked models firsthand that the models are in fact over 18 (this law shut a number of pornographic websites down).

FurAffinity
In August of 2005, FurAffinity was the target of a prolonged hacking attempt against its servers. As well as taking over administrator accounts, and using them to post anti-semitic messages in the administration message space (thus putting these messages on the top of every page of FA), the hackers taunted the community by posting passwords to the FurAffinity LiveJournal. Later, a complete list of users and their passwords was posted on Encyclopædia Dramatica; it has since been deleted (users are not allowed to view the Encyclopædia Dramatica deletion logs).

GreenReaper
GreenReaper, founder of WikiFur, has contributed to ED's WikiFur article, along with other forum threads and weblog posts mentioning WikiFur, many of which are on websites critical of the furry fandom. He justifies this on the basis of "The only bad publicity is no publicity!", although particularly in reference to Something Awful (which brought major traffic and many good contributors to the site).
