58.162.67.232: /* Social Facts */

The Den is a furry sharehouse in Carindale - Brisbane, Australia. Its occupants are Jaffa Ferel, MistyStriker, Dimruthien VerenLaulaja and Bingo Dingo.

History
The Den, as it is now, has been in existence since April 26, 2005, when Jaffa Ferel, MistyStriker and Dimenianz moved their belongings in and called it home. In August, 2005, Dimenianz moved out and approximately a week later Dimruthien VerenLaulaja moved to Brisbane from Darwin, Australia. In January 2006, Bingo Dingo also came to call The Den his permanent home.

Social Facts
Occupants of The Den usually find themselves in the company of Nikita Wolfpaw on Tuesdays for Coffee Night, while on Thursdays the Denizens occasionally invade Billabong for what is called Lost Night after the show they meet there to watch.

Regular invaders of The Den include Nikita Wolfpaw, Dalfox, Foxy Malone and FlameDrake.

People who have invaded the house and stayed a week or more include Hammond and PsychoSmiley.

Quirks
* The toilet is in the living room.
* The house is generally filled with random cries of Yiff! or Squee! by Dimmie and Jaffa respectively.
* Despite the fact that The Asylum is more appropriately named for this quirk, The Den has bars on each window.
* Current pets equals zero; Dimmie managed to kill the sea monkeys twice (oops). However it does play host to a few hundred ants on occasion.
* The Den hosts three different sofas, two of which reside on the balcony with the extra fridge that currently hosts a thriving population of sentient mould.
* There have been claims of the doorbell being haunted, as it goes off with nobody at the front door to ring it.
* Despite the ever-growing DVD collection, The Den is overrun moreso by books than anything else. Topics range from fantasy, to crime, to gaming, with a large section devoted to art and drawing of course. There are piles of books on the floor, the kitchen table, the kitchen benches, as well as the single bookshelf in the house.
* Household computers are named Freya (Jaffa), Lucy (Dimmie), Serenity (Misty's laptop used by Bingo), and Lycanthrope (Misty).
* As with any real furry gathering, the Denizens and their guests usually congregate in doorways or the hallway for conversations, sometimes even sitting on the floor in the hallway where the three bedroom doors and the bathroom door meet to carry out a conversation.
* The members of The Den take it in two shifts. The Day Shift is Misty and Bingo, who sleep all night and rise early in the morning. The Night Shift is Jaffa and Dimmie who sleep late (if at all) and are generally awake until the early hours of the morning (dawn has been seen more often than once by those two).

58.162.67.232: /* Current Sharehouses */

The city of Brisbane features one of Australia's more active local furry communities, probably second only to Melbourne. It was the site of the country's first furry sharehouse in 1996 (Quarantine, defunct) and currently contains several such households, including The Asylum (defunct), The Den, Billabong, The Bunnerong Road Sharehouse (defunct) and Sanctuary. In 2005, Westhaven became the first resident-owned furry household.

Although Marcwolf and Kllauw brought their property in 2000, Westhaven is still the closest furry central.

Current Sharehouses
* The Den
* Billabong
* Sanctuary
* Westhaven
* The Cave

Defunct Share houses
* The Asylum
* Quarantine
* Russell St Sharehouse

See also
* Brisbane at Wikipedia

External links
* The Brisbane Furs LiveJournal community
* The [irc://us.irc.furnet.org/brisfurs #brisfurs] channel on the FurNet Internet Relay Chat

stub
