Starting on the 3 February 2006 under the name of FurryShop.de, the site was quickly renamed to Yiffytoys.de because it was generally seen a unfavorable to have the term "Furry" in the name of an adult shop.

About two month after the shop was established it started a "Behind The Scenes"-blog to reveal some of its inner workings.

A major rebuild in April 2006 added support for not just German, but French and English, as well as the Euro, US Dollar, British Pound Sterling, and access via IPv6. In February 2008 Suran applied for the German and US trademark for the name of "YiffyToys" after a short incident with a typosquatter.

During Varka's preliminary announcement of Bad Dragon on the Herpy website, male (and in some cases female) castings of actual animals were mentioned but as of May 2009 the company's catalog is strictly fantasy featuring designs inspired by real and fictional animal anatomy.

Much of Bad Dragon's success in popularity and sales can be attributed to the company attending and dealing at various furry conventions. It, at first, started out as an Anthrocon exclusive vendor but starting in 2010 it branched out to other conventions.
