== Kigurumi and furry ==

Kigurumi is the Japanese analog to [[fursuit]]ing.

It can also be viewed as an umbrella term for fursuiting, anthro and non-anthro mascoting for various purposes as well as a special form of [[wikipedia:cosplay|cosplay]], that usually portraits animals or anthros. However, there is variation of masked cosplay, called ''[[Wikipedia:Animegao|Animegao]]'' (''アニメ顔'', anime face), that specializes on a doll-like (and therefore more anime-like) appearance of a character.

Kigurumi involves dressing up in a soft costume, that covers the full body and gives the wearer a [[plush toy|plushie]]-like appearance along with anonymity through masking. The term applies both to entertainment, commercial or other purposes. The term also makes no difference between animal, human or inanimate characters displayed.

Unlike fursuiting, which has strong ties to the rest of the furry fandom, Kigurumi has few strong associations with Japanese [[kemono]] artists.

== Most common blunders ==

There are several ways by which suited artists can ruin the magic:

* Most of the time is behavior that is [[out of character]] (emotionally [i.e. anger/depression] or physically [i.e drunk/stoned]), or when he/she/they break the (not expected/not in character) [[W:Fourth wall|fourth wall]].
* Another way is by allowing one's skin to be visible while wearing a suit when not appropriate for the character or is it not an emergency (i.e. suit [[W:Overheating|overheating]] and/or performer asphyxiation).

== Ruining the magic and furry ==

Within the [[furry fandom]], ruining the magic while [[fursuit]]ed is also frowned upon. Out of character actions due to emergencies are allowed, and because of them, most [[furry conventions]] will have a designated area, normally called the "[[headless lounge|headless lounge]]", to accommodate breaks for the performer or to perform emergency repairs on their [[fursuit]]s.

[[Partial suit|Partial]] or [[half-suit]]s, fursuits without bodies, just normally oversized head, [[paw]]s, and feet costume elements, are allowed at cons as long as the exposed extremities are covered in [[fur]] colored body-hugging tights or wearing normal, extremity covering clothes.
